- The Wealthy Old Man Carried a Child After His Divorce
- Chapter 15 - Are You Unable to Play Fair!
“Brother Feng is my boyfriend now.”
Fang Xu did not speak loudly when he said this. He indeed felt an urgent need to declare his ownership of Bai Yifeng to everyone, yet he also knew that Bai Yifeng was not an object and would never belong to anyone. Furthermore, he did not want his words to become a reason for others to attack Bai Yifeng.
His words were only heard clearly by the Old Master and Bai Yifeng, but even so, it was enough to leave the Old Master in shock for quite a while.
“You,” the Old Master’s hand holding the cane trembled, seemingly unable to accept this fact. Fearing he might faint, Bai Yifeng quickly took him from Fang Xu’s hold. “Old Master, please sit down first.”
As he spoke, he took the cane and set it aside. It was a very ordinary action, yet the Old Master let out a sigh. “Yifeng.”
Before meeting the Old Master, Bai Yifeng had no real impression of this elderly man. The original host had not left him many memories, and even fewer concerned the Old Master. Now that they had met, he found that the Old Master was just an ordinary old man.
Or perhaps, he was not so ordinary.
The Beta felt a surge of vigilance in his heart as he sat down beside Fang Xu. The faint scent of Saint Feather Orchid stabilized him. After the Old Master called his name, he continued, “You used to call me Grandfather.”
Bai Yifeng replied calmly, “I do not remember, my apologies.”
He truly did not know. In the original book, he was merely a supporting male character, a “cannon fodder” at that. Only a few short sentences were dedicated to him, briefly explaining his ending before the author stopped writing about him altogether.
The current Bai Yifeng was a living person. Everything around him was no longer tied to the plot, and he had to manage every step carefully to survive in this world.
The Old Master’s words might have been a mere lament, or perhaps a test.
Just as he was weighing how to respond, Fang Xu grabbed his hand. The Alpha pulled his hand onto his own lap and whispered to Bai Yifeng, “Brother Feng, even if you are divorced from my brother, given your current relationship with me, you should still call him Grandfather.”
Bai Yifeng was speechless. He realized that ever since he had personally admitted to his relationship with Fang Xu, this fellow seemed to have become a bit over-excited.
However, catching a glimpse of Fang Xu’s bright eyes, the Beta knew deep down that he could not refuse this side of him. He sighed inwardly and, with a hint of a smile, called out, “Grandfather.” Only then did the Old Master smile. “Good child, good child.”
It was clear that he liked him quite a bit, but then why had he not expressed any disapproval of Fang Yang’s past actions?
Bai Yifeng kept a trace of wariness in his heart. On the surface, to outsiders, it looked as though the Old Master favored this former grandson-in-law, who was now an outsider, more than his two grandsons.
“He is clearly just a Beta,” Ye Lang muttered through gritted teeth while watching from not far away. He was unwilling to accept that even though he was the one by Fang Yang’s side now, the Old Master had not looked at him once.
“Is this the Eldest Young Master’s fiancé?” A guest talking to Fang Yang noticed Ye Lang’s distraction and asked intentionally. Fang Yang called Ye Lang twice before he snapped out of it. Unexpectedly, as he turned his head, he collided with a passing waiter, and several glasses of wine in the waiter’s hand spilled onto his white formal suit.
The Omega’s expression changed, and Fang Yang’s brow furrowed immediately. Fortunately, Louis stepped forward before he could lose his temper and led Ye Lang away. “Mr. Ye, please come and change your clothes first, otherwise you will not make it in time for the cake cutting.”
Ye Lang looked at Fang Yang for help, but the latter looked away and continued chatting and laughing with the guests, as if he had not seen the wine stains at all. Louis urged, “Mr. Ye?”
“Let us go.” Ye Lang could only tell himself in his heart that these were things he had to endure. For the sake of his future, what did a little incident like this matter?
It just so happened that the path to the dressing room passed by Fang Xu and Bai Yifeng. The Old Master happened to look up at Ye Lang, who tried his best to force a smile, only to see a hint of disgust in the Old Master’s eyes. The Omega had no choice but to lower his head quickly and hurriedly follow Louis away from the area.
Compared to Bai Yifeng, he looked more like the one who was out of place.
Bai Yifeng did not miss the struggling expression on Ye Lang’s face. He could not describe his own feelings; he did not want to gloat, nor did he want to kick him while he was down. After leaving Fang Yang, he did not want to have anything to do with those two lunatics ever again.
In his eyes, those two were a match made in heaven; it was best if neither of them bothered anyone else.
“Brother Feng, what are you thinking about?” Fang Xu noticed he was lost in thought and gave him a reminder. “Grandfather is asking why you want to join the medical department.”
Bai Yifeng snapped back to reality. The voices of the guests nearby did not affect his answer as he said calmly, “Fang Xu often gets injured on the battlefield. I am very worried about him, so I want to do something for him.”
Neither Fang Xu nor the Old Master expected him to be so blunt. Aside from the Old Master’s surprise, Fang Xu was so moved that he leaned in close to him. “Brother Feng, you are so good.”
“Grandfather, Fang Xu, it is time to get ready for the cake cutting.” Fang Yang’s voice sounded from behind them. “Everyone is waiting.”
The two brothers had prepared a large cake for the birthday banquet, using it as a way to share the blessings. This banquet was also being recorded and reported by the media, making it a perfect time to build connections and promote the Fang family.
“I want to go to the restroom.” Bai Yifeng placed his juice on the small table beside him and spoke softly to Fang Xu. The Alpha stood up to follow him, but Bai Yifeng pressed him back down. “I can go by myself.”
He had stayed here before and knew where the restroom was. Besides, the cake cutting had nothing to do with him; he was primarily there to accompany Fang Xu. The Old Master also heard his words and cheerfully indicated that he should go and come back quickly. “Yifeng, I brought a gift for you. I will give it to you when you return.”
Bai Yifeng froze for a moment. A gift?
“Alright, I will be back soon.” Bai Yifeng did not understand the reason, but since Fang Xu did not give him a hint, he could only play it by ear.
Watching him get up and head toward the restroom, the three generations of the Fang family fell into silence. This did not match the rising sound of the musical instruments behind them at all. The smile on the Old Master’s face vanished, and he raised his head, signaling for Fang Yang to sit down.
Fang Xu made room for his elder brother and patted the sofa. “Brother?”
Fang Yang glanced in the direction where Bai Yifeng had left. Just as he sat down beside his younger brother, he heard the Old Master ask angrily, “What exactly is going on? Why did Yifeng insist on divorcing you?”
Before Fang Yang could answer, Fang Xu cut in, “Grandfather, I have something very important to tell you.”
“Phew.”
Bai Yifeng washed his face. While wiping it, he looked at himself in the mirror out of the corner of his eye, making sure nothing was left uncleaned. As expected of Fang Yang, no matter where he appeared, he made Bai Yifeng feel uncomfortable.
He had just adjusted his mood and was getting ready to return to the banquet to avoid making Fang Xu worry too much. Unexpectedly, just as he reached the restroom entrance, he saw a person standing there with his back to him, saying nothing.
Even though Fang Xu and Fang Yang looked like twins to outsiders, Bai Yifeng could tell who was who at a single glance.
What was Fang Yang doing here?
Bai Yifeng paused, attempting to take a detour around him. Even getting lost was better than being blocked by this madman. Just as he moved, Fang Yang turned around and fixed his gaze on him.
“Bai Yifeng.” Fang Yang’s voice was somewhat raspy. He took two steps forward, only to see Bai Yifeng retreat four or five steps. He said irritably, “Try taking one more step back?”
So, Bai Yifeng took two more steps back and turned to run.
If he did not run now, was he supposed to wait to be cornered?
Unfortunately, because he and Fang Xu had been a bit excessive a couple of days ago, his body still felt slightly uncomfortable. After a few steps, he was caught by Fang Yang. Bai Yifeng said nothing and raised his leg to kick between the other man’s legs. Fang Yang never expected him to use such a dirty trick. Fortunately, he dodged quickly and pinned Bai Yifeng against the wall in a few swift moves.
This place was some distance from the banquet hall. Bai Yifeng knew very well that he could not call for help. He had seen guards everywhere when he came in, but he was not sure if those guards belonged to Fang Xu or took orders from Fang Yang. It would be troublesome if he made a mistake.
“Let go!” Bai Yifeng’s shoulders were held by Fang Yang. He tried to struggle, but he was not as strong as Fang Yang. “Fang Xu!”
“Calling Fang Xu is useless; he is with Grandfather right now.” Fang Yang’s gaze moved down, landing on the half of Bai Yifeng’s waist exposed because his arms were being pulled upward.
It was not that he had never paid attention to Bai Yifeng. Before Bai Yifeng presented as a Beta, he had always thought the two of them would be together forever. Even someone like Fang Yang had once had such fantasies.
But Bai Yifeng just had to be a Beta.
So what if he was a Beta?
Fang Yang’s gaze darkened, and his fingertips touched Bai Yifeng’s waist. Unlike Fang Xu’s warmth, Fang Yang’s fingers were very cold. Bai Yifeng shivered at the sensation, gritted his teeth, and slammed his head against Fang Yang’s.
Fang Yang did not expect him to resist a second time. This time, he was distracted by the supple touch of Bai Yifeng’s waist and failed to dodge. The impact made his vision go black, and he instinctively loosened his grip, allowing Bai Yifeng to escape.
Bai Yifeng was about to run, but then he felt unwilling to let it go. He cursed under his breath, came back, and gave the doubled-over Fang Yang another kick. Fang Yang was also filled with rage. Ignoring the pain in his head, he reached out dizzily to grab him again, only to see a figure flash before him. His brother’s voice sounded in front of him, “Brother, what are you trying to do?”
Fang Yang looked up in a daze and saw Fang Xu shielding Bai Yifeng. Rather than shielding, it was more like he was stopping Bai Yifeng from coming up to land two more kicks.
Fang Yang took a deep breath, stood up straight while holding his forehead, and said through gritted teeth, “You marked him?”
The scent of Saint Feather Orchid on Bai Yifeng was far too strong.
Fang Xu did not speak, which was a silent admission.
“He is a Beta. If you have that much energy, why don’t you go find an Omega!” Fang Yang roared. Fang Xu took a step forward and said in a heavy voice, “First, Brother Feng is my boyfriend now.”
“Fang Xu.”
“Second, I do not care if he is a Beta or an Omega. Even if he were an Alpha, I would love him just the same.” Fang Xu stared at his elder brother. “Or have you forgotten, Brother? You no longer have any relationship with Brother Feng. How I mark him is our business.”
“I was the one who seduced him!” Bai Yifeng, annoyed by Fang Yang, shouted from behind Fang Xu. The words made Fang Yang nearly faint with anger. “You shut up!”
Bai Yifeng clicked his tongue, thinking to himself that Fang Yang really could not play fair.
“Third, and last point.” Fang Xu suddenly chuckled. “Brother, I do not care how you two were in the past. Now, Brother Feng is mine. Please stay away from my boyfriend, otherwise, it will not sound good if word gets out. Don’t you agree?”
