The Villainess Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 27
Bai Fenghe actually remembered that sentence of hers. A subtle feeling rose in Yun Chuanzhi’s heart, and she answered without hesitation, “Of course it’s true.”
“Besides, why do you always think I’m out to get you? I have no grievances or grudges against you,” Yun Chuanzhi laughed.
Bai Fenghe snorted, but she didn’t move. “I had no grievances or grudges with that Qiu Hanshan either.”
“How can that be the same?” Yun Chuanzhi weighed her words, thinking of how to dispel Bai Fenghe’s paranoia. “I don’t even know Sect Master Mingcun.”
“So you mean, no matter who This Seat kills, you won’t be angry?” Bai Fenghe suddenly turned around, her chin slightly raised. Her pond-like eyes reflected the flickering candlelight, glinting with a trace of crafty, demonic energy.
Simply sensitive, paranoid, and making trouble out of nothing. Yun Chuanzhi sighed. She stopped arguing and instead stepped forward, grabbing Bai Fenghe’s sleeve with one hand while searching for her hand within the wide fabric with the other.
She then pried open those slender fingers and placed them against her own neck.
“Come on then, just kill me and see if I get angry.”
This behavior was the ultimate act of “letting it all go.” Bai Fenghe gripped the girl’s slender, fragile neck; she could neither tighten her grip nor let go. In the back and forth, her heart actually began to race.
It’s just a little immortal slave who isn’t afraid to die; why am I nervous? Bai Fenghe pulled her hand back in annoyance, taking out a handkerchief and rubbing her palm vigorously, trying to wipe away the lingering warmth.
“Get lost,” she finally cursed.
“As you wish.” Having successfully riled up Bai Fenghe, Yun Chuanzhi made her strategic retreat. She turned a corner quickly, but halfway there, she doubled back.
Walking past the ever-burning lamps lining the corridor, she saw Bai Fenghe again. To her surprise, the woman was still standing at the door, lost in thought, her shoulders draped in shadows.
“Sect Leader…” She forced out a very well-behaved smile. “I forgot just now, this servant has a request.”
She rarely referred to herself as “this servant” in front of Bai Fenghe. Bai Fenghe glanced at her and turned to push the door open. “Speak.”
“Do you have anything to eat here?”
She put on a hard-earned smile for the sake of a meal, grinning so wide her eyes disappeared. Bai Fenghe paused, remaining silent for a long time before finally speaking, “What, does Mount Buxi not even have a place to eat?”
“More than just no place to eat, there’s no place to stay either,” Yun Chuanzhi muttered under her breath.
How could Bai Fenghe not hear her? She turned her head slightly, frowning. “What did you say? Why no place to stay? On Core Sect Day, there are many cultivators; specific lodgings should have been assigned.”
“They were assigned, but they didn’t want to live with someone of slave status, so I came out on my own,” Yun Chuanzhi said cheerfully. “No matter, the peach tree at the entrance is quite good for sleeping.”
She said this as if it were unintentional, but it was a calculated move. Perhaps Bai Fenghe would pity her just a little bit and give her better food.
“A bunch of wastes who don’t practice properly, yet they dare to look down on others.” Bai Fenghe’s eyes grew cold. She flicked her wrist, and the empty tea table by the window was suddenly laden with food.
A quick glance revealed dozens of hot dishes—a mix of meat and vegetables, glistening with oil. There was even a bowl of delicious ginseng black chicken soup, clear enough to see the tender chicken leg within, with droplets of oil floating on the surface.
The aroma of the food hooked Yun Chuanzhi’s appetite. Her stomach, empty for half the day, began to growl frantically. Yun Chuanzhi sat down immediately, picked up her chopsticks, and stuffed a mouthful of food into her mouth.
Bai Fenghe looked down at her, her arms crossed elegantly. She let out a tch and said, “Look at you. If you eat this gluttonously when we go out, wouldn’t you be blatantly embarrassing This Seat?”
Yun Chuanzhi chewed the fish, swallowed, and whispered, “I’ve changed a lot already; I’m much slower now than I used to be.”
“Meaning you used to eat even worse?” Bai Fenghe frowned.
“You ladies and lords who are used to being high-born naturally learn to be elegant. But for someone like me who went hungry and cold every day, if I didn’t finish the food quickly, someone else would have snatched it away.”
Yun Chuanzhi said helplessly. She gulped down several mouthfuls of chicken soup. “To tell you the truth, back in the day, I nearly choked myself to death while stealing a bun.”
She spoke cheerfully and continued to devour the meal happily, not seeing Bai Fenghe’s arms slowly uncross or the fleeting ripple in her eyes.
“What was the name of the person who wouldn’t let you sleep in the room?” Bai Fenghe asked suddenly.
“Something like Qi, I think. Cheng Jinshu called her Junior Sister,” Yun Chuanzhi answered vaguely, lost in her meal.
Bai Fenghe nodded but asked nothing more. She walked toward the depths of the bedchamber, saying lazily as she went, “In consideration of your merit in protecting your master today, you don’t need to sleep in that peach tree. In This Seat’s palace, only the area past that screen is forbidden. I have no use for the other areas; find any corner to sleep in.”
With that, her swaying waist vanished behind the screen embroidered with spring apricots, and the bright lamps within flickered and died as if caught by a breeze.
Yun Chuanzhi finally registered her words. Her mood brightened instantly. She finished the remaining food like a whirlwind and stood up, patting her stomach.
The layout of “Little White Palace” was much like the Spring Pavilion at Gundan Gate, but the furnishings and decorations looked older. The lounge by the window was worn so smooth it looked as if it had been coated in oil, reflecting a luster usually reserved for jewels.
Yun Chuanzhi cracked the window open slightly. The summer night breeze drifted into the hall, carrying the scent of green grass and unnamed flowers. Yun Chuanzhi curled up on the lounge in the cool breeze and closed her eyes to rest.
Too much had happened today. Despite taking the elixirs, she was exhausted. She soon fell asleep to the sound of insects. Blackie crawled to her side and took a nap, using her arm as a pillow.
Then, his eyes snapped open. He looked around and pulled on Yun Chuanzhi’s hair.
“Master, Master, wake up,” he said in his thin voice.
Yun Chuanzhi was dreaming of gnawing on a large chicken leg. Waking up bleary-eyed, she pushed Blackie’s hand away and sat up with annoyance. “Why are you pulling me?”
“I sensed just now that the Sect Leader seems to have gone out.” Blackie’s voice was worried. “Could it be another monster?”
“If she went out, let her. She’s the great Bai Fenghe; the other two Sect Leaders couldn’t even beat her together. What could happen to her?” Yun Chuanzhi turned over, prepared to go back to sleep.
“What if there are more monsters? You’re alone in the hall now. What if you get swallowed without Bai Fenghe’s protection?” Blackie bit his hand in distress.
At this, Yun Chuanzhi’s sleepiness vanished. She rolled off the lounge, stood firm, and smacked her fist into her palm. “You have a point.”
She tiptoed behind the screen and tossed a cloth doll from her sleeve. The doll leaped into the darkness, circled around, and emerged dragging a very thick ledger.
“She really isn’t in bed,” Yun Chuanzhi whispered to herself.
The cloth doll was quite clever. It spread the ledger on the floor, revealing a list of names to Yun Chuanzhi. She froze for a moment and leaned down to read.
“Seventh disciple under Bai Xiaochen: Qi Yurong…”
Sensing trouble, she quickly pulled Blackie up and scrambled out the door.
Perhaps the process of Bai Fenghe finding Qi Yurong’s location had taken some time. By the time Yun Chuanzhi rushed to the cloud pavilion, breathless, she saw the tall, elegant woman bathed in the cold moonlight, standing by a bedside near the window.
Her profile was cold and stern. A tiny spark of light condensed in her palm as she slowly raised her hand.
Crap. Did Bai Fenghe take my words to heart and come here to kill someone to vent her anger?
Though the idea of Bai Fenghe venting anger on her behalf sounded bizarre, Yun Chuanzhi couldn’t think of any other reason for her to seek out the cultivators’ lodgings in the middle of the night besides murder.
“Bai Fenghe!” Seeing she couldn’t stop her in time, Yun Chuanzhi could only lunge forward, wrapping her arms tightly around the woman’s shoulders and back, pulling her back with all her might.
“If you kill a disciple of the Sect Master because of me, I’ll really lose my life!”
Unfortunately, this body had too little strength, and Bai Fenghe’s stance was too stable. Instead of pulling her away, Yun Chuanzhi ended up hanging onto her. Her feet dangled in the air, failing to touch the ground.
This body of Cui Ergou’s is truly humiliating. Yun Chuanzhi held the beauty in her arms, her heart feeling no romance, only grief and indignation.
But a laugh suddenly came from above. It wasn’t the usual wicked or cynical sneer; she sounded genuinely amused. Like a fresh breeze outside the window, the laugh drifted softly into Yun Chuanzhi’s heart.
