The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL] - Chapter 28 (1)
“Slap!”
Outside the fitting room, Qi Ling was jolted by the sharp sound of a slap. She turned around just in time to see Song Ziqing pulling the door open and storming out, her eyes red with fury.
Song Ziqing spotted the familiar doctor, but with no sign of Yan Hui in sight, she shot Qi Ling an angry glare, snatched her bag from the sales assistant, and turned to leave.
Lu Qinnian emerged from the fitting room, while the assistant watched the two with a look of disbelief and a half-smile. Lu Qinnian quickly grabbed Song Ziqing’s arm. “Where are you going?”
Song Ziqing whipped around to glare at her, her voice trembling with rage. “There is a limit to my patience!”
“You already agreed to date me. You are my girlfriend now. Are you really going to ditch me to go find that Yan Hui?” Lu Qinnian knit her brows in dissatisfaction.
Song Ziqing let out a cold laugh. “So what? Since when does dating someone mean you can’t have an affair?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she shook off Lu Qinnian’s hand and hurried downstairs.
Lu Qinnian was about to give chase when Qi Ling grabbed her. “Enough!”
“Didn’t you hear what she said?” Lu Qinnian asked, letting out a frustrated laugh.
Qi Ling looked at the bright red handprint on Lu Qinnian’s face and couldn’t help but grin. Lu Qinnian noticed and grew even more incensed. “What are you laughing at?!”
Qi Ling tried to compose herself, but a second later, she burst into laughter again, clutching her stomach as she doubled over.
Lu Qinnian turned and stared at her with an icy face.
Qi Ling cleared her throat and wiped her eyes. “Lu Qinnian, I really don’t know what goes on in that head of yours. You’re brilliant at business, but how can you be so incompetent at romance?”
Lu Qinnian froze. She took a deep breath but remained silent, eventually turning to stride away.
Qi Ling hurried after her. As they exited the mall, they saw Song Ziqing getting into Yan Hui’s car. Qi Ling moved quickly, grabbing Lu Qinnian’s arm and shoving her back into their own car before jumping in after her.
“Are you a rabid dog? Biting people the moment you see them?” Qi Ling snapped in exasperation.
Lu Qinnian looked back with a cold stare. “It’s her problem! She admitted to having an affair herself!”
Qi Ling slapped her forehead and let out a long, heavy breath. “Lu Qinnian, do you actually like her, or is this just simple possessiveness because you don’t want her to be with Yan Hui?”
Lu Qinnian went still. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.
Seeing this, Qi Ling sighed. “If this is just animal instinct, or a selfish desire to win against Yan Hui, then leave her alone. She and Yan Hui would be very happy together.”
Lu Qinnian’s heart sank. The thought of Song Ziqing living happily with Yan Hui felt like a heavy stone blocking her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Qi Ling patted her shoulder. “If you truly like her, then you shouldn’t be so impulsive. If you get hit, you have to take it.”
Qi Ling reached for a bottle of iced water and handed it over. “Here, use this on your face. It’ll look even worse if it swells up.”
Lu Qinnian took it and pressed it against her burning cheek. She stayed silent for a long while before muttering dejectedly, “But she agreed to date me.”
Qi Ling rolled her eyes. “Under what circumstances did she agree? Was it because she succumbed to your bullying or because she actually wanted to?”
Lu Qinnian fell silent. Song Ziqing had only agreed to her outrageous demand because she was worried Lu Qinnian would sign a contract she shouldn’t have.
But even after the girl had sacrificed that much for her, Lu Qinnian had still suspected her of having ulterior motives and secret schemes.
Lu Qinnian leaned back in her seat, letting out a long, regretful sigh. “So, what do I do now?”
Qi Ling watched the other car drive away. “The first thing you need to do is figure out what’s actually in your heart. Do you truly like her? That’s the most important part.”
Lu Qinnian remained quiet as Qi Ling started the car. “Let’s go back. You need to cool your head.”
After a long while, Lu Qinnian suddenly asked, “Do you think I like her?”
Qi Ling rolled her eyes. “I don’t know. You have to ask yourself that.”
“What does it feel like to truly like someone?”
Qi Ling was speechless. She looked at the woman beside her—usually so formidable, now sitting obediently while icing a slapped face, looking at her with eyes full of a desire to learn.
“Look at your thoughts about her. Liking someone means wanting to be good to them, wanting to coax them. Possessiveness is just wanting to own them to enjoy the glory of being the victor.”
“I was being good to her,” Lu Qinnian said earnestly.
Qi Ling asked curiously, “For example?”
“I had you come with me to buy clothes as a gift for her.”
Qi Ling’s lip twitched. She let out a snort. “And then you saw her on a date and charged into her fitting room?”
Lu Qinnian was speechless. After a long silence, she scowled. “Because I was anxious. Anxious about how far she and Yan Hui had gone, anxious that someone would snatch her away before me.”
“Then that’s still possessiveness,” Qi Ling shrugged.
Lu Qinnian went quiet again. Recalling the look of pure disgust on Song Ziqing’s face when she slapped her made her heart ache. Finally, she let out a bitter sigh. “Is it?”
Qi Ling glanced at the dejected woman but didn’t answer immediately. After a moment, she added, “Lu Qinnian, you have to learn to accept defeat, especially in matters of the heart. Sometimes people just don’t like you. It’s not that you aren’t good; it’s just that she doesn’t like your type.”
Lu Qinnian’s heart gave a jolt. She looked up with a dejected smile. “Right. She likes the gentle and considerate type. I don’t know how to be any of those things.”
Back at the Lu mansion, Lu Qinnian sat on the sofa looking like a defeated general. All the energy had drained out of her.
As she left, Qi Ling hesitated before saying, “Apologize properly. Even if she doesn’t like you, when you do something wrong, you have to say sorry.”
Lu Qinnian sat there in a daze, her mind filled with Song Ziqing’s look of loathing. Her chest felt tight, as if something were squeezing her heart.
The servants had never seen Lu Qinnian so defeated. They didn’t dare disturb her, watching from a distance. Even when Nanny Liu finished making lunch, she didn’t dare call her to eat.
Meanwhile, Song Ziqing was sitting at a dining table with Yan Hui opposite her. Yan Hui looked a bit flustered. “I’m sorry. Qi Ling said you’d come down, so I stepped out. I didn’t mean to leave you waiting.”
Song Ziqing looked up, startled by the careful apology. She shook her head with a smile. “No, no. I just ran into someone I hate.”
“Ooh—” Yan Hui breathed a sigh of relief and served her some food. “Let’s eat, then we can shop some more.”
Song Ziqing hummed in agreement. She didn’t want to go back yet either.
They shopped until the sun began to set. Song Ziqing walked along with an ice cream in hand, giggling at the sunset.
Seeing her finally happy, Yan Hui relaxed. She watched her with tender eyes. “Qingqing, if you’re ever unhappy, you must tell me. Otherwise, I’ll worry.”
Song Ziqing turned back and nodded with gratitude. “Thank you, Sister Yan Hui.”
“No need for thanks.” Yan Hui watched her happily. “What do you want for dinner?”
“Barbecue!” Song Ziqing said expectantly.
That night, a car stopped outside the Lu gates. Yan Hui helped carry several bags, but the guard stopped her. “Miss Yan, I’m sorry. The Eldest Miss said you are not permitted to enter.”
Song Ziqing ground her teeth in anger. She looked back at Yan Hui. “Sister Yan Hui, don’t mind her. I’ll find a way to move out of the Lu house. Let’s see what she does then!”
Yan Hui handed the bags to a servant and smiled at Song Ziqing. “I can make arrangements for you.”
“No need. My mother has money. It’s just that our families are very close; if I suddenly say I’m moving out, Auntie Lu and the others will be upset. I have to find the right time to say it.”
“Alright. Just be sure to tell me when the time comes. I’ll help you move.”
Song Ziqing entered the Lu mansion looking quite cheerful. She felt that as long as she had a friend like Yan Hui, she wouldn’t be left stranded even if Lu Qinnian kicked her out.
In the living room, she saw Lu Qinnian sitting with her head bowed. Song Ziqing brushed past her with indifference and went straight upstairs.
Lu Qinnian looked up and opened her mouth, but no sound came out. She watched her go with a look of utter desolation.
One of the servants whispered, “The Eldest Miss has been sitting like that all day. It’s so pitiful.”
Later, the servant who had taken the bags to Song Ziqing’s room came back down. She hesitated before speaking. “Eldest Miss… Miss Qingqing said she will find a way to move out of the Lu house soon.”
Lu Qinnian’s heart sank, and her expression froze.
“Does she really hate me that much?” Lu Qinnian muttered to herself. Her voice was raspy and broken.
Song Ziqing was preparing to shower when there was a knock at the door. Thinking a servant was bringing something she’d forgotten, she opened it.
The smile vanished the moment she saw Lu Qinnian. “What is it?” she asked coldly.
Lu Qinnian gave a bitter smile. She really was loathed.
“Don’t forget your place,” Lu Qinnian said, her old defensive habits kicking in even as she meant to apologize. “You are a guest of the Lu family. You aren’t allowed to get so close to Yan Hui!”
Song Ziqing let out a cold laugh. “Don’t worry. I’ll be leaving the Lu house very soon.”
Bang! She slammed the door shut.
Lu Qinnian stood there dazed before knocking again. When Song Ziqing yanked the door open in frustration, Lu Qinnian blurted out, “I’m sorry.”
Song Ziqing stared in disbelief. “What did you say?”
“I was too impulsive today. I was wrong. I hope you can forgive me.”
Song Ziqing backed away, studying the woman. Lu Qinnian looked remarkably vulnerable in her thin sweater. “You… you’re Lu Qinnian. Why are you suddenly bowing your head? Is this another trick to mess with me?”
Lu Qinnian’s heart stung. she gave a desperate, weary smile. “So even when I try to be good to you, you think I’m plotting something?”
Song Ziqing swallowed. “When… when were you ever ‘good’ to me?”
“Song Ziqing!” Lu Qinnian barked.
“See! You’re yelling at me again!”
As Song Ziqing tried to close the door, Lu Qinnian reached out to block it. The heavy door slammed onto her fingers.
Song Ziqing jumped in shock as Lu Qinnian cried out in pain. She yanked the door open and saw blood on the woman’s fingers. “Are you stupid?! Why would you put your hand there?”
Lu Qinnian grimaced but forced a smile. “It’s nothing. I just wanted to apologize. I shouldn’t have been so rude or domineering. I shouldn’t have suspected you. I know you hate me, but I want you to keep living here. It’s not safe for you to live alone.”
She took a small step back, her eyes full of disappointment. “I know you find me loathsome. I can stop coming home so you won’t have to see me. Goodnight.”
Song Ziqing stood there, unable to believe what she’d just heard. Lu Qinnian—who never apologized for anything—had just apologized repeatedly.
Is she really that lonely? Song Ziqing wondered.
The next few days were quiet. Lu Qinnian didn’t come home.
Song Ziqing asked Nanny Liu, “Where is Lu Qinnian? Is she not eating?”
“The Eldest Miss went back to the office. She said she won’t be coming back for a while,” Nanny Liu said with a gentle smile. “But she looked very upset when she left.”
Song Ziqing felt a pang of guilt. Had she really driven her away?
Nanny Liu added, “She’s never been in love. She’s arrogant and doesn’t know how to coax people. It’s only natural she’d end up making the person she likes angry.”
Song Ziqing pointed at herself. “The person she likes?”
Nanny Liu just chuckled and walked away.
Later, Song Ziqing received a call from Lu Kui. “Qingqing, is your foot better?”
“It’s fine, Sister Kui-kui. When are you coming back?”
“Did Lu Qinnian bully you?” Lu Kui asked urgently. “Don’t mind her. She doesn’t know how to express her feelings, but she actually cares. She was the one who insisted we find you the day you were kicked out.”
Song Ziqing was stunned.
Then she received a call from Lu Ge. “Qingqing, I miss you! Did Lu Qinnian bully you? She’s so simple-minded; she’s never even been in a relationship. All she knows is work.”
Song Ziqing couldn’t believe it. Everyone thinks she’s ‘simple-minded’?
When the Lu parents returned, Mother Lu hugged her tight. “Qingqing! I’m so happy you’re an Omega. Now we can finally fulfill the dream of our families being joined by marriage. Pick one of my three daughters!”
Song Ziqing laughed nervously. Mother Lu insisted, “I’ll make sure whoever you pick treats you right.”
A few days later, Yan Hui was actually permitted to enter the Lu house to bring Song Ziqing a dress for a party.
“Lu Qinnian allowed it,” Yan Hui said.
When they left for the party together, the servants sighed. “The Eldest Miss has some tough competition. This Yan Hui is very gentle!”
At the party, Song Ziqing was the center of attention as a top-tier Omega. Xie Muqing watched with burning jealousy.
When Yan Hui was called upstairs for business, Xie Muqing approached Song Ziqing. “You think you’ve won, don’t you? I’ll make you pay!”
Suddenly, Song Ziqing received a text from Yan Hui: “Come to my room on the third floor, 3001. I don’t want to deal with these people anymore.”
But it was a trap set by Xie Muqing. She had swapped the room signs.
Song Ziqing entered room 3001, which was actually a storage room. Before she could turn around, someone grabbed her. Xie Muqing plunged a syringe into her neck.
“Now just wait for your pheromones to explode until you die!” Xie Muqing sneered, locking the door from the outside.
Song Ziqing collapsed. The drug was fast-acting. As her consciousness began to fade, she realized she was going to die a gruesome death, just like the Omega in the original story.
Desperate, she fumbled for her phone and tried to call Yan Hui, but the call was declined. She tried again, but no one answered.
In her final moments of lucidity, she dialed another number.
