The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL] - Chapter 28 (2)
Lu Qinnian’s face flashed through her mind. Gasping weakly for air, Song Ziqing tried to find Lu Qinnian’s contact info, but she collapsed again. The stinging pain throughout her body and the violent surge of pheromones made it impossible to focus her thoughts.
On the other side of town, Lu Qinnian was sitting in her apartment, drinking. Beside her, Qi Ling watched her drowning her sorrows and smiled helplessly. “So, have you figured it out? Do you actually like her, or do you just want to win against Yan Hui?”
Lu Qinnian ignored her, continuing to drink. She gave a slightly tipsy smile. “It doesn’t matter anymore. She loathes me.”
Qi Ling tilted her head. “Lu Qinnian, do you have any idea how much you look like a jilted, resentful little Omega right now? It’s quite pathetic, honestly.”
Lu Qinnian didn’t respond. She sat on the floor, leaning against the sofa, and took another swig. She let out a self-deprecating laugh. “I’m such a failure. Reborn once, only to be played for my feelings again.”
Qi Ling sighed. “You’re talking nonsense now.”
“She’s just a little ungrateful wolf!” Lu Qinnian turned and shouted. “I don’t care!”
“Good for you,” Qi Ling laughed, clinking her bottle against Lu Qinnian’s. “I’ll find you someone better-looking than her.”
“I am not that superficial,” Lu Qinnian muttered, shaking her head drunkenly.
“Then tell me, what kind of person do you like?”
Lu Qinnian froze. For a moment, she couldn’t answer. Her mind was filled only with Song Ziqing’s cheeky smile and that calculating expression she wore whenever she acted spoiled.
“You really like her that much?” Qi Ling teased.
Lu Qinnian roared irritably, “Nonsense! I, Lu Qinnian, could never, ever like that ungrateful, thick-skinned little wolf!”
The moment the words left her mouth, her phone—which had fallen into the corner of the sofa—began to ring.
Lu Qinnian fumbled for it, missed, and gave up.
Qi Ling reached down, pulled it out, and checked the caller ID. “The little ungrateful wolf?”
Lu Qinnian sat up instantly and snatched the phone away, but the call had already ended.
Qi Ling looked at her in disbelief. “Song Ziqing?”
Lu Qinnian stared at the screen with a look of disappointment. “Must have been a pocket dial.”
Qi Ling couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “Lu Qinnian, you’re actually being twisted around the finger of a young girl. Look at yourself!”
Lu Qinnian picked up her bottle and kept drinking, but she didn’t deny it.
Song Ziqing felt like she was burning alive. She twisted her body in agony; the cold, damp floor provided a fleeting second of lucidity, but she accidentally hung up the call.
She looked back at the phone, her fingers trembling. In the airtight space, her own dense pheromones were suffocating her. With the last of her strength, she redialed Lu Qinnian.
This time, Lu Qinnian picked up almost instantly. “Qing… Song Ziqing, what is it?”
Qi Ling watched her from the side like she was watching a play. A weak voice came through the line: “Lu… Lu Qinnian… save… save me… 3001.”
Lu Qinnian bolted to her feet. “Qingqing? What happened? Where are you?”
“The ball… Xie Muqing… ” Song Ziqing’s eyes drifted shut. She could hear the panicked voice from the phone, but she could no longer make a sound.
Lu Qinnian practically sprinted out the door. She dialed Assistant Xu immediately. “Find out exactly which ball Song Ziqing is attending. Do it now!”
Qi Ling rushed forward and took the car keys. “I’ll drive.”
Lu Qinnian, trying to shake off the alcohol, nodded and jumped into the car.
Assistant Xu sent the address within minutes. Since it was a high-profile event, it wasn’t hard to track down.
When they arrived at the venue, the guests turned in surprise to watch Lu Qinnian charge straight upstairs. They exchanged bewildered looks.
“What happened? Why is she in such a hurry?”
Someone sneered, “If the top-tier Omega your family raised ran off with your rival, you’d be in a hurry too.”
Lu Qinnian reached the third floor. Qi Ling tried to kick a door open, but it wouldn’t budge. Lu Qinnian stepped forward, inserted a card, fiddled with the lock for a second, and the door swung open.
Watching her charge inside, Qi Ling marveled, “Still pretty calm at the critical moment.”
“I’m not,” Lu Qinnian muttered. She was terrified.
However, that room was empty. They stepped back out and checked the room number. Qi Ling asked anxiously, “Could the information be wrong?”
“Impossible.” Lu Qinnian trusted Assistant Xu’s competence implicitly.
She scanned the hallway. There were only three doors on the third floor: 3001, 3002, and a storage room.
Qi Ling went to kick the door of 3002, but Lu Qinnian walked to the storage room. She tried the handle and immediately felt something was off. A standard storage room shouldn’t be deadbolted from the outside so securely that even her master card couldn’t override it.
Lu Qinnian took two steps back and delivered a powerful kick. Crash! The lock shattered, and the door swung wide.
Qi Ling saw the door open and rushed over.
“Don’t come in!” Lu Qinnian barked. She pulled the broken door shut behind her and immediately gathered the figure on the floor into her arms.
Song Ziqing was limp and weak. Her body was uncontrollably flooding the small space with pheromones, and she was clearly at her limit.
Lu Qinnian lowered her head and pressed her lips against the girl’s. As her own body responded to the Omega’s scent, she released her own pheromones. She broke the kiss and held the fragile girl tight against her chest, letting her own dense, powerful Alpha scent soothe and stabilize the girl’s haywire system.
After a long while, Song Ziqing began to regain consciousness. The familiar scent made her feel safe. She whispered weakly in Lu Qinnian’s ear, “Lu Qinnian?”
“Yes, it’s me.” Lu Qinnian looked at her. Seeing that she was coming around, she immediately wrapped her blazer around the girl. She sprayed herself with a suppressant to keep from losing control, then lifted Song Ziqing into her arms.
Qi Ling kept her distance. The scent of that Omega’s pheromones was far too concentrated. Looking at Lu Qinnian’s face, which looked ready to murder someone, she guessed what had happened. There were people malicious enough to force an Omega into a heat and then leave them without comfort, causing their blood vessels to rupture a truly gruesome and cruel way to kill.
Lu Qinnian intentionally avoided the crowds as she headed down. Just as she reached the bottom of the stairs, she ran right into Xie Muqing, who was just stepping out of a room.
Xie Muqing’s face turned deathly pale. She stepped forward. “Qinnian, I—”
“Get lost.” Lu Qinnian’s voice was pure rage. Holding the weak girl firmly, she strode past Xie Muqing without giving her a single glance.
