The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL] - Chapter 23
Inside Lu Qinnian’s bedroom, the person who had fallen asleep from sheer exhaustion felt a chill on her toes. She shivered, her weary eyelids fluttering open.
The overhead lights were so bright she could barely keep her eyes open. Squinting, she saw Lu Qinnian sitting at the foot of the bed. Her own feet were resting on Lu Qinnian’s lap, and the woman was carefully cleaning her scraped toes.
Song Ziqing bolted upright instantly. She jerked her feet out of the woman’s grasp and looked up, spotting Lu Kui standing nearby with a medical kit.
“Kui-kui, I don’t want her doing it.”
Lu Qinnian froze. Watching Song Ziqing recoil with such resistance and stare at her with such coldness, she felt an indescribable pang in her chest.
Lu Kui stepped forward with a smile, gently pulling Lu Qinnian up. “I’ll help Qingqing with the dressing.”
Song Ziqing scanned the room. This was Lu Qinnian’s bedroom—how had she ended up here?
As Lu Kui brought out the medicine, Song Ziqing asked uneasily, “Where’s Gege?”
Lu Kui paused for a moment. “Something urgent came up at her studio, so she went back. Let me apply the medicine for you, okay?”
Lu Kui reached out carefully, her gaze tender and focused.
Song Ziqing nodded. It was certainly better than having Lu Qinnian help.
Standing to the side, Lu Qinnian watched as those small, battered feet were cradled in Lu Kui’s palms. She watched as Lu Kui applied the ointment with such gentleness, while Song Ziqing looked back at her with a beaming smile. An inexplicable irritation flared in Lu Qinnian’s heart. It’s just medicine; why is she stroking her ankles and the top of her feet like that?!
Lu Qinnian turned and walked out with a stony face. She pulled out her phone and called her assistant to delegate work. “Is Lu Kui the lead on that overseas project?”
“Yes, she is.”
“Press the schedule. Tell her she needs to go over there immediately.”
The assistant replied in confusion, “But it’s not that urgent, is it?”
“Then make it urgent. The kind of ‘urgent’ where she won’t be able to come home for a long while,” Lu Qinnian snapped, her patience gone.
The assistant was stunned but didn’t dare ask more. “Understood, Boss.”
After hanging up, Lu Qinnian looked back toward the bedroom and took a deep breath. Why are they all being so eager?
Lu Kui finished bandaging Song Ziqing’s feet and comforted her for a while before leaving the room. She froze when she saw Lu Qinnian standing on the long corridor, smoking.
Lu Qinnian was the most emotionally stable person in the Lu family; nothing usually shook her. Whenever she faced a particularly difficult dilemma, she would smoke in silence. Looking at her now, it seemed she was having a hard time making a decision.
“What’s wrong? It’s fine for Qingqing to stay at home. We just need to put on a show for the elders.”
Lu Kui took a deep breath and smiled, tilting her head to look at her sister. “Though, I must say, I didn’t expect you to pass up the chance to kick her out.”
“Do I look like such a vicious person?” Lu Qinnian asked, arms folded as she blew out a ring of smoke. Her eyes looked somewhat lonely.
Lu Kui paused, then nodded vigorously with a grin.
Lu Qinnian shot her a look, feeling a wave of melancholy. It was no wonder Song Ziqing treated her the way she did. No matter what, there always felt like a barrier between them. Did the girl also think she was vicious? Did she think she’d throw her out? Or did she just blame her for having such a bad temper? Even Qi Ling had said that Song Ziqing didn’t like people with explosive tempers.
But Lu Qinnian didn’t understand it herself. Whenever she faced Song Ziqing, she couldn’t control her emotions. She always felt this little wolf was plotting something, and the fact that she hadn’t made her move yet only made Lu Qinnian more irritable. She didn’t believe a person could suddenly turn over a new leaf, so she remained constantly on guard.
Perhaps it was because of this that Song Ziqing refused to be close to her or trust her.
Seeing the furrowed brows and the lonely look in her sister’s eyes, Lu Kui grew uneasy. “What are you thinking about?”
“The Xie family,” Lu Qinnian said, stubbing out her cigarette. She looked at Lu Kui. “Their hands are reaching too far.”
“You already found out that Xie Muqing spiked Qingqing’s drink. Just tell her sister; someone will deal with her.”
“Why did Xie Muqing do it?” Lu Qinnian frowned.
Lu Kui froze for a second before rolling her eyes. “She likes you! And our families have had a verbal agreement for years that she would eventually marry you.”
“What does that have to do with Song Ziqing?”
Lu Kui actually groaned. “Xie Muqing clearly guessed Qingqing’s identity, so she wanted to drive her away from you. It’s not like she hasn’t done this sort of thing before.”
“But she knows I hate Song Ziqing.”
“Ha!” Lu Kui sized her up with disdain. Does that look like hate to you?
“Anyway, what do you plan to do?” Lu Kui asked.
Lu Qinnian spoke flatly. “I’ve already had someone inform Mother about everything Xie Muqing did to harm Song Ziqing.”
Lu Kui was stunned. “Tsk… Lu Qinnian, you’re truly poisonous. With Mother’s temper, knowing Qingqing was framed and suffered so much after being kicked out… Xie Muqing won’t just fail to get any favors, she’ll find it hard to ever marry you now.”
Lu Qinnian said nothing. She knew how important the bond between Song Ziqing’s mother and the Lu family was. No matter what happened, Mother would always side with Song Ziqing. That was why she had always believed the girl’s lies so unconditionally.
“Do you really not like Xie Muqing?” Lu Kui asked curiously. After all, they had grown up together.
Lu Qinnian shot her a look and said coolly, “What do you think?”
Lu Kui shook her head. “I think you won’t ever like anyone. She was a good match; it would have been easy to marry her and have kids.”
Lu Qinnian didn’t reply. It wasn’t an impossible future, but the fact that Xie Muqing had used such despicable means to plot against Song Ziqing annoyed her. Logically, she shouldn’t care how others treated Song Ziqing, yet this time, she simply didn’t want anyone touching her.
Lu Kui’s phone rang. She answered it and cursed under her breath. “A bunch of useless idiots! I have to do everything myself!”
She turned to leave but paused to look back at Lu Qinnian. “I have to head overseas for that project. Qingqing…”
“I’ll be at home,” Lu Qinnian said calmly.
Lu Kui let out a helpless sigh. At least Lu Ge was gone, and Lu Qinnian was safe to have around. After all, the woman was emotionally stable and wouldn’t be easily swayed by Qingqing’s pheromones. With that wooden head of hers, she’d never take the initiative to seduce the girl, so it was actually quite reassuring.
As Lu Kui hurried away, she dialed Lu Ge’s manager. “Arrange for Lu Ge to join her film crew. Make sure she doesn’t have time to come home for a while.”
Once that was settled, she headed to the airport.
Meanwhile, Lu Ge was propping her head on her hand, staring at her terrifyingly full schedule. “Am I dying? Is this an attempt to squeeze the last minute of value out of my life before I go?”
Her manager looked troubled, assuming Lu Ge had caused trouble again and that the other two sisters were keeping her busy to keep her out of the house, so she kept her mouth shut.
Lu Ge was worried about Song Ziqing. Lu Kui seemed gentle and considerate, but she wasn’t exactly a “good person” either. She called Lu Qinnian’s assistant to ask about Lu Kui’s schedule. Hearing that she wouldn’t be back anytime soon, she breathed a sigh of relief and added, “Once this project is finished, find more work for her immediately. Don’t give her a chance to come home.”
“Eh?” The assistant was baffled. Had the Second Miss offended everyone in the family? With both of them saying the same thing, she wondered if she’d somehow upset the Chairman.
“Just do as I say.”
The assistant agreed quickly. “Don’t worry, Third Miss. I guarantee the Second Miss won’t be coming home anytime soon. She will definitely ‘overcome this trial’ through hard work.”
Lu Ge laughed and nodded. “Good, good. We all trust your competence.”
“Thank you for your trust, Misses!” The assistant felt a heavy sense of responsibility.
Back at the Lu mansion.
When Song Ziqing woke up, Lu Qinnian was the only one there, sitting by the bed. She had moved a dining table over. “Let’s eat together.”
Song Ziqing looked up at her. “Where’s Kui-kui?”
“She went abroad; work is very busy.” She handed over a pair of chopsticks. “After we eat, I’ll change your dressing.”
Song Ziqing looked down at her feet. “It’s just a scrape. Besides, Kui-kui just bandaged them last night. Does it really need changing already?”
Lu Qinnian sat opposite her, eating her lunch elegantly. Her gaze flickered over the girl’s flushed toes, and her heart gave a sudden thump. She swallowed a small mouthful of food and hummed. “She didn’t do a good job with the bandage.”
