- The Villain Turned Out to Be a Scummy Omega? [GL]
- Chapter 17 - Xie Muqing Wants to Drive Qingqing Away
Sometimes Song Ziqing felt that Lu Qinnian didn’t actually hate her all that much, but other times she felt the woman utterly loathed her. Case in point: right now. Despite being in the same car, Lu Qinnian hadn’t uttered a single word and had even told her to “be quiet”!
Song Ziqing looked out the window. The Lu estate was truly massive; it took several minutes of driving just to reach the villa doors after passing through the main gates.
As soon as they stepped out of the car, a gentle and sweet girl skipped up to meet them. “Qinnian!”
The girl froze for a second when she saw Song Ziqing getting out of the car. She then looked over at Lu Qinnian, who was emerging from the other side, and immediately put on a tender smile. She brushed past Song Ziqing without a second glance to hook her arm into Lu Qinnian’s. “Qinnian, I’ve been waiting at home for you for ages.”
Xie Muqing led Lu Qinnian inside, completely ignoring Song Ziqing’s presence.
Song Ziqing pouted and followed behind them listlessly. The Lu elders usually stayed at a smaller villa in the suburbs to avoid the noise, Lu Kui had gone abroad for her studies, and Lu Ge was a busy woman with a schedule so packed you could only catch a glimpse of her on television.
Consequently, Song Ziqing was usually the only one living in the main house. Even Lu Qinnian had her own apartment closer to the office for convenience.
The second most frequent resident was probably Xie Muqing. Lu Qinnian didn’t like people visiting her work apartment, so Xie Muqing had no choice but to wait for her here.
“I’m having a party tomorrow night. Qinnian, you simply must come,” Xie Muqing pleaded, tugging on Lu Qinnian’s arm.
Song Ziqing glanced at them before heading straight upstairs.
The two acted as if she were invisible. Lu Qinnian’s expression remained flat. “You know I don’t like those kinds of events.”
As she spoke, Lu Qinnian’s gaze followed Song Ziqing, who was heading upstairs without a word. Perhaps it was because no one was acknowledging her, but her silhouette looked particularly lonely.
Was I being too harsh? Lu Qinnian thought uneasily.
Suddenly, she stiffened, feeling as though she’d lost her mind. How could she even doubt if she’d been too harsh? Nothing she did to this ungrateful wolf was ever “too much”!
Xie Muqing pouted. “But you went to Yan Hui’s birthday party tonight! You hate her so much yet you went, but you’re rejecting my invitation? It’ll be so embarrassing for me if word gets out.”
“Then don’t let the word get out.” Lu Qinnian sat down calmly, her eyes occasionally sweeping toward the girl upstairs. She still hasn’t looked back once.
Xie Muqing sat down beside her. “But Qinnian… I already told everyone you’d be there.”
“Then… I’ll go.” Lu Qinnian’s gaze settled on Song Ziqing, who was about to turn the corner of the long glass corridor toward her private villa. “Qingqing should come along too.”
Song Ziqing froze and looked back. Xie Muqing looked even more shocked than she was. She stared at the woman beside her, whose expression was remarkably kind—Lu Qinnian was even smiling. “Doesn’t Qingqing love these kinds of occasions the most?”
Xie Muqing watched Song Ziqing from below, a sense of unease blooming in her heart—the kind of unease one feels toward a romantic rival. She knew Lu Qinnian, and she knew better than anyone just how much Lu Qinnian was supposed to despise Song Ziqing.
Their personalities were complete opposites. Lu Qinnian hated crowded events and avoided unnecessary socialising whenever possible. Song Ziqing was the exact opposite; wherever there was a party, she was there. Regardless of status or rank, she had friends everywhere.
Xie Muqing looked at the woman beside her, unsure of her intentions, and could only play along. “Qingqing, you should come too.”
Song Ziqing was confused. Lu Qinnian taking the initiative to invite her usually meant trouble, but she was actually quite interested in a gathering of socialite Omegas like Xie Muqing. She nodded. “Sure, why not?”
“Then it’s settled,” Xie Muqing said with a smile, though she was fuming internally. If the Omega from that night really was Song Ziqing, things were going to get very ugly.
Given Lu Qinnian’s current attitude, if Song Ziqing decided to compete for her, she would be a formidable opponent.
However, Song Ziqing was just an outsider fostered by the Lu family. She had only ever managed to survive in their social circle by riding on the Lu family’s coattails. Because it was dangerous for Omegas and Alphas to live together for long periods, everyone had simply assumed she was an Alpha.
In this society where Alphas held higher status, she was treated with a modicum of respect. But if she were discovered to be an Omega with an ordinary background, there would be no place for her in this circle, even with the Lu family’s backing.
At best, she would live a quiet, insignificant life. The Lu elders would never allow her to continue living under the same roof as Lu Qinnian.
Xie Muqing had driven away countless Omegas who tried to get close to Lu Qinnian. She began to plot maliciously. Song Ziqing, you’d better be an Alpha. You’d better hope I’ve guessed wrong, or don’t blame me for what happens next.
