- Chapter 16 - Thinking Too Ill of Her
“But she could be something else.”
Yan Hui’s expression darkened. It was just as she had suspected; Lu Qinnian knew that Song Ziqing was actually an Omega.
Guests at the party stole glances at the trio from time to time. One had to admit that the three of them standing together was a breathtaking sight, yet the atmosphere was equally sharp and combative.
Song Ziqing, on the other hand, was so startled that the dessert in her mouth nearly choked her. She stared at Lu Qinnian in shock, her mind racing with a sudden, startling thought: Wait… she couldn’t actually have feelings for me, could she?
Lu Qinnian turned back, scooped up a spoonful of the treat, and held it to the girl’s lips. She gave a devious smile. “She could also be an enemy.”
Song Ziqing: “…”
She really does hold a grudge! Because of the bomb incident, Lu Qinnian wasn’t going to let her off the hook so easily.
…
After leaving the Yan residence, Lu Qinnian leaned back against the car seat to rest with her eyes closed. A faint scent of wine drifted from her. Song Ziqing sat beside her, occasionally stealing glances at the woman.
Lu Qinnian wore a loose, deep-grey shirt paired with a black casual blazer. Her long, straight black hair fell loosely over her shoulders, revealing a glimpse of her sharp jawline. She radiated a crisp, piercing beauty. Song Ziqing couldn’t help but swallow hard as memories of the woman on the lounge bed flashed through her mind, a mischievous smile playing on her lips.
As if sensing the burning gaze, Lu Qinnian suddenly opened her eyes. Song Ziqing jumped and immediately jerked her head away to look elsewhere.
Lu Qinnian watched the girl staring out the window, her heart a messy tangle of emotions. If she really likes Yan Hui, marrying into the Yan family might actually be a good outcome for her.
The thought made her suddenly grind her teeth. No! Even if Song Ziqing has to grow old and die alone, she is absolutely not allowed to marry anyone named Yan!
Lu Qinnian stared intently at Song Ziqing. The girl had taken off her outer layer, leaving her waistline fully visible and exposing skin as white and flawless as snow. She truly embodied the old poetic descriptions of a waist as slender as a willow and skin as warm as jade.
Just as Lu Qinnian was lost in these thoughts, Song Ziqing turned back with a beaming smile. Lu Qinnian froze like a child caught doing something naughty. Looking into those clear eyes—with stray locks of hair brushing against the girl’s face as she moved, she found her strikingly beautiful.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say her beauty was ethereal, yet those innocent eyes possessed a natural, magnetic charm. It was baffling how such a pair of eyes could be so captivating.
Song Ziqing leaned in with a wicked grin. “What are you thinking about, Niannian?”
It was as if Lu Qinnian had been placed under a spell; she remained frozen, barely daring to breathe as the girl drew closer. She opened her mouth to speak, but not a single word came out.
Song Ziqing found her flustered state highly entertaining. She hadn’t expected the usually cold, arrogant, and decisive Lu Qinnian to have a side like this.
Song Ziqing pulled back, let out a deep breath, and stretched her arms without looking at her. “Niannian, do you like me?”
Lu Qinnian’s heart hammered. This ungrateful wolf is trying to mess with me again! Definitely! She snapped back with anger, “What kind of nonsense are you talking?!”
Song Ziqing turned back, her face filled with a deep sense of grievance. “You really do hate me, don’t you?”
Lu Qinnian froze. Seeing the girl looking so pitiable and hurt, her heart softened instantly. She wondered, Did I actually misjudge her?
Song Ziqing pouted, rolling her eyes inwardly. Song Ziqing, you really can’t help yourself, can you? You see a beauty and you just have to tease them. But this is Lu Qinnian—the ice queen. You aren’t going to flirt your way through this one.
Looking at the girl’s pouting face, Lu Qinnian felt a wave of panic. Is she about to cry? Was I too harsh just now? Was I? Forget it… maybe I’ve just been thinking too ill of her. Should I apologize? But I can’t bring myself to say it.
Song Ziqing looked at the silent, cold woman and let out a bitter, hopeless laugh. Lu Qinnian really is heartless. Acting pitiful doesn’t work on her at all. Fine, time to change tactics. I’ll find another way to get on her good side.
“I’m sorry,” Lu Qinnian said suddenly.
Song Ziqing jumped, looking at the awkward woman in shock. “Sorry for what?”
Lu Qinnian immediately closed her eyes and leaned back against the seat, clearly done with the conversation. she said coldly, “Be quiet.”
