- Chapter 16 - What Should I Do If My Wife Loves Me Too Much? (Part 16)
Lin Song had a long, elegant neck. The skin was fair and delicate, without a single blemish. As Bai Jun leaned closer, the fragrance from Lin Song’s body became more pronounced.
Bai Jun swallowed hard, trying her best to suppress her racing thoughts as she fumbled with Lin Song’s collar. She found no foreign object at all.
“It seems the itching has stopped.”
Fortunately, Lin Song spoke up softly after a moment.
Bai Jun breathed a sigh of relief and sat up straight, only then noticing that Xu Tu had arrived.
Xu Tu was not tall, but she had a strong presence. Dressed in a casual suit with her hair tied in a ponytail, she looked exceptionally sharp and efficient.
The three of them shared a meal together. With Lin Song guiding the conversation, Bai Jun gradually became familiar with Xu Tu. Xu Tu seemed to have complex emotions; she kept her head partially lowered and rarely looked up.
After lunch, Lin Song left for the office.
Perhaps having mentally prepared herself, Xu Tu appeared much more relaxed once Lin Song was gone. Bai Jun laid out her requirements, and Xu Tu used her laptop to search for information and help design floor plans when necessary. The two worked with seamless coordination.
Xu Tu was a very professional secretary—her looks and business skills were both top-tier. Bai Jun was immensely satisfied with her.
As expected, my adult self has excellent taste! I managed to find such a great secretary…
What Bai Jun thought would take three or four days was nearly completed in half a day with Xu Tu’s help.
“It’s all thanks to your help!” Bai Jun looked at the floor plans, which were nearly one-third complete, and felt incredibly happy. “Once the drawings are finished, we can contact the designers!”
She planned enthusiastically: “When the rooms are renovated, you’re welcome to visit often.”
Remembering her “devoted wife” persona plan, she added: “Lin Song will welcome you too. She’s told me a lot of your good points over the past few days.”
Xu Tu gazed at the smile on her lips, her expression dazed for a moment. After a while, she spoke softly: “President Bai, you seem to… really like Miss Lin now.”
“Of course! Lin Song is so lovable.” Bai Jun answered almost without thinking, though she felt a bit puzzled. “Did I act like I didn’t like her before?”
“The previous President Bai was more reserved; she wouldn’t express her affection for Miss Lin so directly.” Xu Tu lowered her head.
“The past is the past, and the present is the present. I don’t remember anything now anyway!” Bai Jun puffed out her cheeks.
This was the boring part about being an adult. Growing up required weighing too many pros and cons, making simple expressions of emotion seem like a luxury.
Aunt Feng had said she used to hide away and secretly watch Lin Song’s movies. Bai Jun didn’t doubt her affection for Lin Song at all; it was just that her past self was far too good at keeping secrets—she had even fooled her own secretary!
Xu Tu stayed at the villa until evening.
Seeing that it was nearly six o’clock and Xu Tu showed no sign of leaving, Bai Jun couldn’t help but ask: “Xu Tu, why haven’t you gone home yet? Don’t you want to go out and have fun?”
Had her adult self become a heartless capitalist who didn’t let employees leave on time?
Xu Tu seemed startled, losing her usual composure for a moment: “I’m not in a hurry. The work isn’t finished yet…”
“Aiya! Work is never finished.”
Bai Jun sighed, frustrated by her lack of initiative: “I only pay your salary; I haven’t bought out your life.”
“You should go play,” Bai Jun advised earnestly. “You should enjoy your own life—watch a movie, fall in love, do what you want to do. Don’t stay here just to be fed ‘dog food’ by me and Lin Song.”
Saying this, Bai Jun couldn’t help but laugh: “It’s a good thing my mother didn’t hear that, or she’d definitely scold me for being a traitor to the capitalist class.”
Xu Tu stared blankly at the smile on her face, and a smile slowly reached her eyes as well: “President Bai looks truly happy.”
“Of course I’m happy! I don’t need to work or go to school right now, and there’s no pressure. I just need to renovate the house for me and my wife.” Bai Jun never forgot to maintain her devoted wife persona.
The smile in Xu Tu’s eyes faded slightly. She looked at Bai Jun as if she wanted to say something, but before the words could come out, the phone rang.
It was Lin Song.
As soon as Bai Jun saw the caller ID, her lips curved upward. It was an instinctive, heartfelt joy. Xu Tu’s lips immediately pressed into a tighter line.
Since she always lost control and wanted to act spoiled when chatting with Lin Song—which would ruin her persona—Bai Jun went to her room to take the call.
Bai Jun enthusiastically told Lin Song about her day.
“You and Xu Tu always had a seamless coordination in the past,” Lin Song said through the screen, smiling at her. “I’ve almost finished my work for today and can come back early. Is there anything you want to eat?”
“Am I allowed to eat outside food now?” Bai Jun’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Of course, but you still need to be moderate.”
“I really want to eat the desserts from the shop at the Chunxi Road intersection! But those have to be eaten in the shop to taste right. Is that place still open?”
“It is, and it’s become a ‘trending’ shop now. A lot of people go there.” The smile on Lin Song’s face faltered slightly, but seeing the expectation in Bai Jun’s eyes, she spoke anyway: “Then I’ll take you there in a few days.”
“You’re busy with work, I should just…” Bai Jun originally wanted to say she’d let Xu Tu accompany her, but meeting Lin Song’s gaze and remembering her drunken jealousy, she immediately changed her tune: “Then you must make time as soon as possible!”
“I love those desserts so much,” she rambled. “My mother only took me once; every other time, my aunt took me secretly. I especially love their taro mud boxes…”
“By the way, do you know how my aunt and Xiaohong are doing lately?” Mentioning her aunt, Bai Jun couldn’t help but feel worried. “Last time, Aunt Feng said Xiaohong’s health was having some issues. Is she better now?”
“Your aunt got her wish. Everything she has now is pretty much what she wanted,” Lin Song answered softly. The smile remained on her lips, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
“That’s good!”
“Xiaohong was so cute when she was little. she was so well-behaved, she even wanted to give me her red envelope money…”
Bai Jun breathed a sigh of relief. Thinking that Bai Hong’s health was improving put her in a good mood, and she felt like she had endless things to say to Lin Song.
“Junjun, see you soon.”
It wasn’t until Lin Song smiled and jangled her keys that Bai Jun realized they had been talking for a long time; Lin Song was already at her car.
“See you soon!”
Realizing Xu Tu might still be waiting for her, Bai Jun hurriedly hung up and went outside. Fortunately, Xu Tu had left at some point. Bai Jun breathed a sigh of relief.
Over the next few days, Bai Jun and Xu Tu became more familiar, and Bai Jun’s respect for Xu Tu’s abilities grew. Every task Bai Jun assigned was completed perfectly.
The floor plans were soon finalized.
However, Bai Jun felt a bit embarrassed to ask Xu Tu for “that” kind of material: because Xu Tu seemed like such a proper, good girl, Bai Jun suspected she didn’t understand that side of things at all.
Once the drawings were finished, Xu Tu contacted the designers to come over. The designers were extremely professional; after finalizing the details, they began planning the renovation schedule. They said the renovation would take about half a month, and it would be best if Bai Jun moved elsewhere during that time.
Bai Jun began to look through the properties under her name. She had Xu Tu find a map to compare the distance between these properties and the Bai Group, only to find they were all quite far away—not at all convenient for Lin Song’s commute.
When Lin Song came home from work, Bai Jun couldn’t help but discuss this issue with her. Her wife was prone to feeling insecure, and Bai Jun wanted her to know how much she cared.
“Thank you, Junjun.” Lin Song was indeed very happy and stroked Bai Jun’s face. “Actually, we have a place near the company.”
Bai Jun did see that she had bought a small place near the company, but it was a studio apartment.
“Won’t it be a bit cramped for two people?” Bai Jun frowned. According to Xu Tu, she used to stay there often after work; she still couldn’t accept that her adult self had become such a workaholic.
“Not that one of yours. It’s the apartment I bought before our marriage.”
Lin Song looked at her with bright eyes, her gaze filled with anticipation. “It’s still early. Junjun, do you want to go take a look?”
“Can I?” Bai Jun had been feeling cooped up in the villa for days, so the suggestion piqued her interest.
Lin Song answered with action: she put a mask on Bai Jun, draped a coat over her shoulders, and led her to the car.
Along the way, Lin Song seemed quite excited. Infected by her mood, Bai Jun couldn’t help but feel expectant as well. They soon arrived at Lin Song’s large luxury flat.
“I bought both of these floors. The top floor is where I lived before—it’s a bit messy. The floor below has never been lived in; we can move in there.”
This felt more like Lin Song’s home. Although it still lacked a “lived-in” feel, there was an entire wall of letters from fans and many of Lin Song’s posters. More importantly, it was extremely close to the Bai Group—about a ten-minute walk.
Bai Jun was very satisfied with the distance, but she wanted to stay a bit reserved, so she spoke with feigned difficulty:
“It’s not impossible to stay here.”
“But you have to beg me…”
“I beg you!” The usually shy and timid little wife was exceptionally straightforward today. She even pushed her luck, wrapping her arms around Bai Jun’s waist and continuing to plead: “Junjun, can I kiss you here?”
Bai Jun froze, her face turning crimson as she closed her eyes.
Lin Song used every ounce of her strength to suppress the trembling of her body. She carefully cupped Bai Jun’s face and leaned in for a kiss.
How could she not be happy?
She had no sense of belonging in this world, and this was the only property she had ever bought. She bought it because, when she opened the curtains here, she could see the windows of Bai Jun’s apartment.
For work, Bai Jun often stayed in that apartment. Lin Song had been like a rat in a gutter, constantly peeking at the movements across the way. Many times, she would look at the lights across from her, imagining Bai Jun’s state and fantasizing about being by her side.
She thought it would always be a humble, unattainable dream.
She never expected that one day, she would truly become Bai Jun’s wife, standing by her side.
