- Chapter 10 - What to Do When My Wife Loves Me Too Much (Part 10)
Lin Song escorted the police officers out of the hospital room and didn’t return until quite some time later.
Her expression was icy, and when her gaze met Bai Jun’s, she forced a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
Lin Song was preoccupied.
Was she just too worried about me?
“Don’t worry,” Bai Jun reassured her somewhat despondent wife. “The criminal will be caught sooner or later. I’ll protect myself and be extra careful until he’s apprehended, so he won’t get another chance.”
As always, Lin Song was easy to comfort. Her lips curved into a genuine smile, the coldness in her eyes gradually melting away. She let out a soft “Mm” and leaned in to hug Bai Jun.
“I won’t let anyone ruin the life we have now.”
Her tone was resolute, and her arms tightened around Bai Jun as if she were desperately holding something back.
The car accident seemed to have left an indelible shadow on Lin Song…
Bai Jun had grown accustomed to Lin Song’s constant urge to protect her.
Though being coddled like this by her wife somewhat undermined her domineering CEO image, it was also a testament to Lin Song’s love. Bai Jun maintained a composed exterior, but inwardly, she relished it.
“I believe in you,” Bai Jun said, naturally humoring her wife. “I’ll work hard with you.”
But Lin Song seemed to see through her perfunctory response and shot her a glare.
Even her wife’s eye-roll was breathtaking.
Bai Jun’s cheeks warmed.
“Jun Jun,” Lin Song said, her tone firm. “I know you’re eager to return to the company, but the suspect is still at large, and he’s a desperate man.”
Lin Song bit her lip. “After you’re discharged, I’ll do everything to make sure you’re comfortable, but for your safety, I’ll have to restrict some of your freedom until you’ve fully adjusted.”
“You don’t need to feel pressured.” Bai Jun recognized her wife’s seriousness and matched her solemnity, trying to ease Lin Song’s anxiety. “Lin Song, I know you’re worried, but you have to trust me. I love you, and I value my life. Even if it’s just for you, I’ll protect myself.”
Though it was just an ordinary declaration of love, Lin Song stared at her blankly, her eyes reddening once more.
“I’m sorry.”
Lin Song suddenly lowered her gaze and spoke softly.
“You don’t need to apologize to me,” Bai Jun sighed, pulling her guilt-ridden wife into an embrace. “I know everything you do is for my sake. You just care too much.”
“Honestly, who wouldn’t want to rest if they could?”
“The main reason I want to go back to the company is that I don’t want you to overwork yourself. If you can handle everything, of course I’d love to take it easy.”
“Truthfully, I never really wanted to inherit the family business.” Bai Jun smiled sheepishly. “I’d much rather sit quietly in a lab, blending my favorite scents, than deal with all those people.”
“But the company carries the efforts of generations of our family. I’ve known since I was young that enjoying the family’s wealth comes with a price.”
“When I woke up, I was surprised to find I’d married you but also truly happy, because it was one of the rare choices I could make for myself.”
“This recovery period can be my vacation, so you really don’t need to feel sorry for me.”
“But if there’s anything you need me to handle, don’t hide it from me, okay?”
Bai Jun was quite pleased with her little speech.
Because her little wife was clearly deeply moved, she looked up again with that adoring gaze, sticky and sweet as it clung to her.
Bai Jun touched her face, feeling a bit embarrassed, it was the first time she had ever bared her soul so deeply to someone else.
But she couldn’t bring herself to say anything more.
Sister Zhang usually only came during the day and had never seen how the two of them interacted. Whenever Bai Jun made phone calls, Sister Zhang tactfully stepped outside. Now, she was staring at them with an expression of disbelief, her eyes so wide they nearly popped out of their sockets. Clearly, she hadn’t expected their private dynamic to be like this.
With an outsider present, Bai Jun felt a little self-conscious. But considering that Sister Zhang would be accompanying her into the villa to take care of her, and would likely witness many such scenes in the future, Bai Jun didn’t bother hiding it.
The two of them quickly completed the discharge procedures.
Once they were actually in the car heading home, Bai Jun still felt a sense of unreality. Especially as she watched the scenery flash by outside the window, she was suddenly gripped by an inexplicable panic.
The pace of development was simply too fast! The forgotten years were laid out before her in a stark, tangible way.
The towering buildings stood in neat rows, the cityscape had changed dramatically, and even the roads were different. She didn’t even recognize the way home.
Lin Song seemed to sense her inner turmoil and silently tightened her grip on Bai Jun’s hand.
“I’m here.”
When the car stopped in front of an unfamiliar villa, Bai Jun was still a little dazed.
“After we got married, we moved out of Grandpa’s place and into this villa.”
Lin Song helped Bai Jun out of the car and softly explained, “I installed the best security system. You don’t need to be afraid when you’re at home.”
“Before, you weren’t very keen on having others take care of you, so we didn’t hire a regular housekeeper. They just came periodically to clean. But given the current circumstances, it’s better to have someone trustworthy. I hired a few housekeepers the other day, you can see if you’re comfortable with them. If not, we can always switch.”
As she spoke, the two of them entered the villa.
The interior was conventional, clean and tidy, but it felt excessively cold and devoid of any lived-in warmth.
If not for the wedding photo of the two of them displayed in the living room, the villa would have seemed completely uninhabited.
“We were both so busy with work before that we never had time to decorate.”
“And my taste isn’t as good as yours. I was afraid you wouldn’t like how I arranged things, so I left it as it was.”
Lin Song seemed to read her thoughts and smiled as she took Bai Jun’s hand. “Now that you’ll be home for a while, if you have the time, you can decorate the place however you like.”
After settling Sister Zhang into her room, Lin Song led Bai Jun upstairs. “This is our bedroom.”
Bai Jun hadn’t expected that they actually slept in separate rooms!
“We were both so busy with work before, traveling frequently. We didn’t want to disturb each other coming home late, so we slept separately.”
Lin Song explained gently, her expression perfectly natural.
But Bai Jun couldn’t shake a strange feeling and couldn’t help glancing at Lin Song again.
The state of the house was indeed different from what she had imagined.
Given how deeply in love they were, she had assumed their home would be filled with traces of their affection.
But this house was cold, like a temporary stopover rather than a home for two.
However, Lin Song’s explanation made perfect sense.
Both of them had been too busy before.
Bai Jun suddenly felt a surge of motivation!
She had already forgotten her past life, but she could still carefully shape her future.
She couldn’t stand the thought of becoming an adult who didn’t value quality of life.
She had always loved life and had studied painting for several years. As a child, she had designed her own room at home.
Now that she had the time, it was the perfect opportunity to decorate the house!
“Leave it to me. I’ll draft the design first, and then we can go furniture shopping together.” Bai Jun enthusiastically grabbed Lin Song’s arm.
“What colors do you like? What kind of style are you going for.”
“Light green, light blue,” Lin Song replied with a smile. “As for the style, I can adapt to anything. What matters most is what Junjun likes.”
Bai Jun fell silent again.
Because the two colors Lin Song mentioned were her absolute favorites, she couldn’t help but suspect that Lin Song was just trying to please her.
But she couldn’t outright ask Lin Song about it compared to how much Lin Song knew about her, her own understanding of Lin Song was pitifully lacking.
At that moment, Bai Jun once again felt an urgent desire to learn more about Lin Song.
With Lin Song present, she felt too embarrassed to ask others. But as soon as Lin Song finished lunch and left for work, Bai Jun immediately turned her bright, eager eyes toward Sister Zhang.
“Sister Zhang, your phone can access the internet, right? Could you help me look up some information about Lin Song?”
“I want to understand her better.” Since Lin Song was an actress, it should be easy to find details about her.
Sister Zhang looked slightly taken aback. After a pause, she stammered, “O-of course, Miss Lin. I just need to use the restroom first. I’ll tell you when I come back.”
When she returned, Sister Zhang’s earlier unease had completely faded.
“Ah! Honestly, you don’t even need to search online to know Miss Lin’s story. Because she practically grew up in front of everyone’s eyes.”
