Chapter 21: Stuck Between Men Big Brother is Quite Big
Although the relationship between him and Fu Xici was currently very awkward and he didn’t know how to handle it, he didn’t want his brother to marry someone who didn’t love him out of spite.
Marriage is a lifelong commitment, especially for someone like Fu Xici, who is slow to respond and not good with words. If he were to step into the hall of marriage like this, there was no telling what would be waiting for him.
Lu Yunchuan had heard everything his brother’s “fiancée” said earlier. It was a conspiracy from the start—she was after Fu Xici’s status as the eldest son of the Fu family, not the man himself.
His brother might accept the family’s arrangements out of spite, but Lu Yunchuan couldn’t allow it. More than anyone, he wanted his brother to be happy and to find someone who truly loved him to walk through life with.
However, Fu Xici clearly had no intention of compromising with him. Though his brother struggled to speak, his typing speed had become much faster, turning every word into a sharp blade aimed straight at Lu Yunchuan’s heart.
You want me? How do you want me? You know that what I want isn’t a brother, but a lover. I know I’m eight years older than you, and I know you treat me like a real brother, but I can’t see you as a younger brother anymore. My thoughts must be filthy, right? After living with you for eighteen years, I should treat you as a brother, but I can’t do it.
Lu Yunchuan felt heavy-hearted, his hand trembling as he gripped his brother’s tie. “I still hope you’ll calm down and really think about the relationship between us. You know that currently, no one in the Fu family likes me. If I mess around with you, what will happen to me? Brother, stop messing around, okay? Don’t throw away your life’s happiness just to spite me. That woman doesn’t love you at all.”
Fu Xici pulled Lu Yunchuan’s hand away from his tie and continued typing:
I know. No one in this world will ever love me including my family, my parents, and you.
Lu Yunchuan sighed repeatedly. “You’re determined to drive me crazy. Fine, fine. Give me some time to think, let me figure out what to do. First, go tell our parents you’re rejecting the marriage.”
Fu Xici held his phone and stared at him silently, his thin lips pursed and his deep, handsome eyes fixed squarely on him.
Lu Yunchuan whispered, “Give me a bit of time. I really can’t process the fact that you like me in such a short period. How about I give you an answer after I finish the college entrance exams next year? Right now, my task is to study. Once I have the ability, I’ll have the right to choose. I won’t have to care what people in this house think of me, and then I can consider your question.”
Fu Xici was silent for a moment before looking down to type in his notes again:
Don’t lie to me. If you just leave after the exams and don’t want me, I’ll die for you to see.
Lu Yunchuan was utterly helpless. “Alright, alright, I won’t lie to you. And stop talking about dying; it’s not that serious. Go find Mom and Dad and reject the marriage. Hurry.”
Lu Yunchuan pushed him out the door from behind. “I’ll go with you.”
The Marriage Rejection
The Fu parents were still in the tea room chatting with Jiang Nan’s parents about their children’s childhoods.
Jiang Nan had been discovered by Lu Yunchuan when she was calling her ex-boyfriend. She originally wanted her parents to leave, but just as they returned, she saw Lu Yunchuan pushing Fu Xici toward the parents.
Jiang Nan’s heart raced. Before Lu Yunchuan could speak, she smiled and urged her parents to leave. “Dad, Mom, something came up at home. Let’s go. We’ve been disturbing them all morning; it’s time to head back.”
Lu Yunchuan smiled and stopped her. “What’s the rush, future sister-in-law? Wait a moment. My big brother has something to say to our parents. You should listen too.”
Lu Yunchuan had already edited the words he wanted to say in Fu Xici’s phone and urged his brother to show it to their parents. Fu Xici glanced at Jiang Nan and handed the phone to them.
As Jiang Wangyue and Fu Kaijiang leaned in to read, the smiles on their faces vanished halfway through.
Jiang Nan’s parents asked curiously, “What did Master Fu write?”
Jiang Wangyue’s previously polite tone turned sarcastic. “My eldest son might be a bit slow and ‘silly,’ but he is still the eldest son of the Fu family. These days, any random person thinks they can look down on him.”
Jiang Nan’s face turned incredibly pale. “Dad, Mom, let’s go. They’ve already said this much.”
Fu Kaijiang spoke with a stern face, “We agreed to this match not because our son is unwanted. We were worried as he gets older and remains unmarried, but he hasn’t reached the point where he can be looked down upon. The Fu family is vast and successful; we aren’t afraid of failing to find a daughter-in-law. Please, leave.”
Fu Kaijiang stood up and walked away. As he passed Fu Xici, he added, “Tengfei Network Technology was developed by you, and the results are excellent. You’ll be transferred there as the General Manager soon, and all controlling shares will be given to you.”
Jiang Nan could no longer smile. She had originally agreed to the marriage specifically to become the GM of that company. Now, it had all gone up in smoke.
Sibling Squabbles
After the “guests” left, Jiang Wangyue was still fuming. “What a piece of trash, daring to look down on the young master of the Fu family. Did they really think they were a match?”
Fu Wangshu, Fu Lingchuan, and Fu Yunzhou came in to ask what happened. Jiang Wangyue snapped, “If any of you bring back some ungrateful thing in the future, I’ll skin you alive! Marriage in the Fu family must be between equals!”
Fu Wangshu massaged her mother’s shoulders. “What now? I thought Jiang Nan was pretty good. Did Brother not like her? Brother, what kind of person do you like? You’re at this age, don’t be too picky.”
Lu Yunchuan usually didn’t argue with Fu Wangshu, the only girl in the family, but this made him unhappy. He countered, “No matter how old he is, he has the right to choose his partner. You aren’t willing to settle, so why should my brother?”
Fu Wangshu glared at him. “Did I ask you to speak? You don’t even have the right to speak in this house, do you? Big Brother is almost thirty; he’s lucky if anyone wants him. Jiang Nan is a master’s graduate from a prestigious school, how is she not good enough?”
Lu Yunchuan didn’t back down. “She has a boyfriend and still came here for a blind date. She thinks my brother is a fool while trying to get benefits from the Fu family. She’d give him a ‘green hat’ (infidelity) before they even married. Would you want that kind of ‘blessing’?”
A Bittersweet Return
By the time the drama ended, it was already afternoon. Lu Yunchuan used studying as an excuse to leave, and Fu Xici went with him. They returned to the apartment near the school.
With Fu Xici back, the place finally felt like a home again. These past few days living alone had been quite lonely. Lu Yunchuan felt awkward, so he hid in his room to do homework.
The next morning, while Lu Yunchuan was brushing his teeth, Fu Xici got up to use the toilet. Lu Yunchuan caught a sudden, accidental glimpse of his brother’s private business. He immediately turned away and blinked at the mirror.
Not only are his nipples pink, but even down there is pink.
He suddenly remembered the feel of it when he had grabbed it that one time. His long fingers could barely wrap around it.
Big brother is quite big.
Lu Yunchuan’s cheeks flushed. At that moment, Fu Xici looked at him through the mirror. Their eyes met, and Lu Yunchuan hurriedly looked away, brushing his teeth even faster.
School Rivalries
At school, Huo Yanxiu sat on Lu Yunchuan’s desk. “What’s the deal with the Fu family lately?”
Lu Yunchuan replied, “Nothing much, just that my parents want to arrange a marriage between you and the ‘real’ second young master. The whole family agrees.”
Huo Yanxiu’s expression turned unusually serious. “The one I want to marry is you, Ah Chuan. Don’t do this to me. I’m working hard for you.”
Yang Lulu, sitting nearby, giggled. Lu Yunchuan snapped, “Don’t disturb my studies. This young master only has eyes for learning. Get lost.”
Yang Lulu whispered, “Whoever is the tsundere is the shou bottom.”
Lu Yunchuan:
The Late-Night Text
That night, after coming home from evening self-study, the living room light was left on for him. It felt good to know someone was waiting.
Around midnight, while Lu Yunchuan was doing problems, his phone lit up. It was a message from Fu Xici.
Brother: I’ve been feeling very restless lately. Can you come over and give me a hug? You’ve been avoiding me every day. Am I that scary?
Lu Yunchuan’s heart was in knots. He replied: I’m doing problems. I’m not avoiding you; I just don’t know how to face you.
Fu Xici: Anyway, you ruined my marriage. If no one wants me in the future, you have to take full responsibility. I was going to just marry someone randomly to get it over with, but you just had to interfere. So, you take the consequences—pay me back with a wife.
