The Tragic Heroine Fell in Love with Me - Chapter 63
“Mmm…”
Xiao San felt utterly ashamed to hear such a suggestive sound escape her throat.
Zheng Qi hadn’t done anything she had merely drawn closer yet Xiao San’s legs had already gone weak, her movements grew dizzy, and she couldn’t even keep her eyelids open. What’s more, her throat emitted this kind of comfortable moan, almost like an invitation.
“Heh~” Zheng Qi chuckled softly.
Nothing brought Zheng Qi more physical and mental pleasure than Xiao San’s reactions.
Xiao San could resist her, could reject her, but the body’s instincts couldn’t lie.
If she truly didn’t like her, her body wouldn’t react this way.
Flustered and angry, Xiao San pushed Zheng Qi away, raising her voice to say, ” I didn’t.”
But Xiao San’s voice was too hoarse, and the words that came out sounded less like a rebuttal and more like a coquettish whine.
“Alright, alright,” Zheng Qi said with a laugh.
“Get out, I need to change.”
“Why are you changing?”
“I’m changing to go home with you.”
“Then go ahead and change.”
Xiao San looked at Zheng Qi, who had shifted her posture and was now leaning against the wall, head tilted, watching her with a teasing expression. Annoyed, she pushed Zheng Qi toward the door. “Get out, I need to change.”
“You used to change in front of me before,” Zheng Qi said.
“Stop talking, or I’ll get really angry.” Xiao San pushed Zheng Qi out the door and slammed it shut with a bang. Zheng Qi didn’t leave but instead asked from outside, “San’er, what’s your answer?”
Zheng Qi’s voice, muffled by the door, sounded deeper, requiring careful listening to make out clearly.
Xiao San didn’t answer. Instead, she raised her hand and slapped the door hard.
This Zheng Qi she was clearly feigning ignorance.
Xiao San walked over to the wardrobe, took out a set of clothes, and just as she was about to take off her pajamas, she suddenly remembered the times she had changed in front of Zheng Qi.
“Ah Qi, why do you always watch me when I change?”
“Because San’er is so pretty.”
“Oh, come on, my Ah Qi is the prettiest.”
As soon as Xiao San recalled that conversation, her entire face flushed uncontrollably.
It seemed that some of those seemingly ordinary actions back then had Zheng Qi already fallen for her then?
Xiao San covered her face, then grabbed a book and fanned herself vigorously.
After a while, when her face felt less hot and flustered, she went to the mirror to examine herself carefully. At least the redness wasn’t so obvious anymore.
Xiao San prepared to open the door and go out, but just before she did, she started feeling nervous again.
She quickly ran back to the mirror, took out some loose powder, and dusted it over her face. “This way, it doesn’t look so red.”
As she reached the door, she suddenly thought, “I just woke up, I haven’t even washed my face, ah, and I haven’t brushed my teeth, ahhhhhh!”
Xiao San covered her face and let out a muffled, agonized scream.
A little while later, Xiao San finally opened the door.
Zheng Qi was in the living room, watching TV. She had long since stopped feeling like a guest in this house, and the people here no longer treated her as one either.
Hearing Xiao San’s movements, Zheng Qi looked up, and the corners of her lips curled upward uncontrollably.
“San’er is so beautiful.”
Zheng Qi stood up and offered sincere praise. She walked over to Xiao San’s side, reached out, and gently pinched Xiao San’s chin. “San’er, your lipstick shade is so pretty. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before.”
Xiao San was itching to push Zheng Qi away immediately. She had been utterly bewitched, how could she have put on makeup before coming out? Unable to wash her face, she had used a wet wipe to clean it and then applied a full face of makeup.
She told herself it was to cover the redness on her face, but in reality, after using setting powder the first time, it would have been enough. Yet she wiped it off and went through the whole routine again toner, lotion, serum, and even concealer for her dark circles.
Why had she done all that?
“I just bought this lipstick,” Xiao San said nervously.
“A new one? I’d like to try it too.”
“I… I’ll go get it for you.”
As Xiao San turned to fetch the lipstick, Zheng Qi pulled her into an embrace. Zheng Qi leaned in slowly, and Xiao San could clearly smell the fragrance of her shampoo. Even though they used the same brand, the scent on Zheng Qi’s hair was distinctly different.
Zheng Qi’s hair was very long, reaching down to her waist, but she usually tied it up with a hairband, simply twisting it into a bun at the back of her head.
Today, however, Zheng Qi’s hair was loose. As she lowered her head, her long, straight black hair cascaded down, enveloping Xiao San completely.
Xiao San began to struggle for breath.
It felt as if she had been plunged into the ocean, a small boat adrift on the vast sea, powerless against the might of the waves.
The surging swells crashed relentlessly against her hull, not just battering her but trying to drag her down into the depths.
In a moment of carelessness, seawater flooded into her cabin.
She had to fend off the external assault while enduring the internal deluge.
By the time the storm subsided, Zheng Qi’s lips were already adorned with the new lipstick shade.
“San’er, do you think this color suits me?”
Xiao San lowered her head, taking deep, heavy breaths. It felt as if Zheng Qi had stolen all the air from her lungs; a moment longer, and she might have suffocated.
Her vision was blurred, her limbs weak and sore, the aftereffects of seasickness weren’t so easily shaken off.
She couldn’t even see the color on Zheng Qi’s lips.
But just imagining it, she knew it must look stunning.
Xiao San turned her head away. “What if my parents come back?”
“Auntie and Uncle are at the shop right now,” Zheng Qi replied, still holding Xiao San without any intention of letting go. She tilted her head and rested it on Xiao San’s shoulder. Their position wasn’t exactly comfortable, but Zheng Qi stubbornly maintained it.
“Let’s go home, hurry up and go back.”
“Oh, alright,” Zheng Qi nodded lazily but made no move to get up.
“A Qi!” Xiao San gave her a little push, and only then did Zheng Qi finally release her.
The two walked out the door, hand in hand, fingers interlaced like conjoined twins. Xiao San was extremely nervous, afraid that someone might notice something amiss. Yet, along the way, everyone who saw them didn’t seem to find anything unusual.
Didn’t anyone suspect them?
Xiao San glanced at their clasped hands and suddenly remembered back when they used to walk together, she would always hold Zheng Qi’s hand, swinging and swaying it just like close girlfriends would.
Why does the same action feel a little different now?
Zheng Qi’s thumb gently rubbed between Xiao San’s fingers. “What’s on your mind, San’er?”
“You’re not going to control what I think about too, are you?”
“Oh, so you were thinking about me,” Zheng Qi said narcissistically.
“Who said that? I wasn’t thinking about you. Stop being so full of yourself, okay!”
Once in the car, Xiao San automatically took the passenger seat, but Zheng Qi suddenly leaned in. After she said those words, he stared at her intently.
Had she been too harsh?
Xiao San began to doubt herself.
Zheng Qi leaned closer and closer. Watching his expression, Xiao San tightly closed her eyes, resigned, and slightly lifted her chin.
But just as he drew near, Zheng Qi suddenly pulled away. Xiao San waited for a long time, but nothing happened. When she opened her eyes, she found him resting his chin on his hand, simply watching her.
“What are you looking at?” Xiao San blustered, though her courage was thin.
Zheng Qi said, “San’er, were you waiting for me to kiss you?”
“Hahaha, what kind of joke is that? I just, I just had something in my eye from the wind,” Xiao San replied immediately.
“Oh, so I misunderstood.”
Zheng Qi’s expression was clearly teasing her, but Xiao San had no courage left to retort.
Xiao San reached for the seatbelt. Earlier, when Zheng Qi leaned in, it was to fasten her seatbelt, but she had closed her eyes, thinking he was going to kiss her.
Was she addicted to being kissed? She had actually felt a bit of anticipation, and even a little disappointment.
She must be going crazy.
She closed her eyes and leaned back against the seat, pretending to sleep. She hadn’t slept well these past few days.
Initially, it was just to avoid facing Zheng Qi directly, but once she leaned back, she truly felt drowsy.
Back when she had tried every way and excuse to reject Zheng Qi, she couldn’t calm her mind enough to sleep. Who would have thought that after reluctantly accepting him for the time being, she would fall asleep so easily?
When she woke up, she had no idea what day it was. She opened her eyes in confusion, her mind too heavy to think.
The sunlight outside the window was it sunrise or sunset? The dim light streamed into the bedroom, and under the Tyndall effect, it looked like a transparent acrylic panel. She felt like a doll placed inside that acrylic.
A sense of isolation from the world washed over her.
It was as if she had been abandoned by everyone.
Wuwuwu…
Before she could wallow in her sorrow for long, she felt the bed dip. Without turning around, she let that person wrap their arms around her.
“San’er, you’re awake?”
The voice was lazy and gentle, with a hint of sensuality.
All feelings of loneliness and abandonment instantly crumbled in Xiao San’s mind.
She whipped her head around and saw that Zheng Qi had changed into silk pajamas, as smooth as his hair. He leaned in, lifted the blanket, and slipped under the covers with her.
Xiao San quickly jumped out of bed. “What time is it now?”
“Three in the afternoon.”
Xiao San made a sound of acknowledgment. She watched as Zheng Qi lay down, the silk pajamas making his skin appear even whiter, like milk, with a texture as smooth as silk.
Hey, hey, hey!
Xiao San shook her head vigorously. Why was she thinking so much? Why was she even imagining things like smoothness and milk?
” I’m fully rested.” Xiao San looked around; she was currently in Zheng Qi’s room, a space she had designed herself, with every corner radiating cheerfulness. But at this moment, the room felt rather, well.
Xiao San didn’t dare stay any longer. “I… I’m hungry. I’ll go outside and make something to eat.”
“Go ahead, San’er. I’m sleepy; I’ll nap for a bit.” Zheng Qi burrowed into the covers, her eyes heavy with drowsiness, as if she could fall asleep at any moment.
Xiao San, who had let her thoughts wander, felt utterly mortified. Zheng Qi was clearly just as sleep-deprived and in need of an afternoon nap, yet Xiao San had mistaken it for an attempt at seduction.
