The Tough Guy Forced To Become The Broodmother - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: Trading Information
“Handsome, even if you don’t fancy me, there’s no need to crush my wrist. It hurts quite a lot.”
A beautiful woman dressed in red emerged from a nearby shop, her voice sweet and lingering like syrup. She swayed as she walked, her slender, lily-white fingers brushing past Gu Qiyin’s shoulder.
The woman with the shattered wrist opened her mouth to complain, but the lady in red shot her a sidelong glance, and the injured girl retreated obediently.
“Such a man, with no pity for the fairer sex~” The red-dressed beauty shook a pair of fox ears atop her head.
Gu Qiyin brushed her hand off his shoulder and spoke her identity aloud: “Madam Red Fox. I’m here to buy information.”
The woman’s expression shifted instantly. She placed her hands on her hips and gestured inward. “What a boring man. Come in then.”
Watching Madam Red Fox’s swaying hips as she led the way, Gu Qiyin knew his guess was correct. This was the “Know-It-All” of the Lost City, the premier information broker—Madam Red Fox of the Beast Race.
She led him through a series of twists and turns into a secluded, hidden room.
Upon entering, Gu Qiyin was nearly blinded by the décor. A chandelier crafted from gold and crystal hung from the ceiling, and silver chairs were draped with exquisite, snow-white fox pelts.
Gu Qiyin glanced at the pelts, realizing those likely belonged to the legendary husband who had once betrayed her. Ever since she skinned him, she had sprinted down the path of information brokerage. The fact that she could discover her husband’s betrayal from the smallest clues proved her methods and intelligence-gathering skills were second to none.
I must handle this carefully.
Madam Red Fox twisted her waist and reclined lazily on a large chair. She clapped her hands, and several bodyguards in black suits stepped out to stand behind her. Gu Qiyin could sense the energy simmering beneath their muscles; their power levels were likely quite high.
“Well, handsome, tell me,” Madam Red Fox asked, crossing her legs. “What information are you looking for?”
Gu Qiyin looked her in the eye. “I want to know the whereabouts of the item the Zerg lost.”
The fox beauty’s half-lidded eyes snapped open, revealing blood-red pupils. She tapped the armrest with a crimson fingernail. “That information, handsome… depends on whether you can afford the price.”
Gu Qiyin produced a small box. Madam Red Fox gestured for a guard to retrieve it.
When she opened it, she found a rare, high-grade non-attribute Beast Crystal. Satisfied, she snapped the box shut. “I like your payment. Seven days ago, someone brought that Zerg item here. However, just the day before yesterday, it was stolen. It hasn’t been found since, but I can guarantee it is still on this planet.”
Gu Qiyin frowned. “Madam Red Fox, such an uncertain lead isn’t worth my Beast Crystal, is it?”
“Hee-hee, don’t be so impatient. Don’t you want to know exactly what the Zerg lost?”
Gu Qiyin raised an eyebrow. “Oh? You actually know that?”
“The Original Broodmother’s Essence.”
Gu Qiyin’s gaze turned sharp instantly. He stared at her. “Are you certain?”
Six massive, blood-red tails unfurled behind Madam Red Fox. “Just a rumor, hardly worth mentioning. If you don’t find it credible, feel free not to believe it.”
Recalling the Zerg movements at the Imperial border, Gu Qiyin knew this was likely the truth. But his goal today wasn’t just the Zerg item.
“I cannot accept an uncertain lead. I need to know one more thing.”
“Handsome, I never do business at a loss,” the fox said, her tails lashing irritably. “Even if you are a high-level mecha pilot from the Empire, here in this city, Madam Red Fox calls the shots.”
Gu Qiyin curled his lips into a smile. “Oh? Is that so?”
His mental power erupted in a sudden, violent burst. Under the weight of such immense pressure, Madam Red Fox’s guards began to tremble uncontrollably.
After just one second, Gu Qiyin retracted his aura.
The way Madam Red Fox looked at him changed. This wasn’t just a “high-level mecha pilot.” This face was plain and unremarkable—he was definitely wearing a disguise.
Gu Qiyin smiled. “There is nothing I want to do that can be stopped. However, it’s not in my nature to let a beautiful lady suffer a loss. I have a piece of news you won’t be able to refuse.”
“…” She decided to take the graceful exit he offered. “You’re a man who knows how to treat a lady, and I’m not an ungrateful fox. If I have the information you seek, I will give it to you.”
Gu Qiyin asked, “I want the whereabouts of the former Imperial General, Xu Ze.”
Madam Red Fox hesitated. “I do have news of him. But a former Imperial General isn’t someone a little fox like me can afford to offend. I hope you understand.”
Gu Qiyin leaned in. A guard stepped forward to block him, his large fist inches from Gu Qiyin’s face. Madam Red Fox raised a hand. “Wait.”
The guard froze.
Gu Qiyin leaned over and whispered a few sentences into her ear.
Madam Red Fox’s expression gradually grew solemn. She gritted her teeth and said, “Very well. Your news is well worth the risk of offending that General.” She reached into a box behind her and pulled out a slip of paper. “This is his location.”
Gu Qiyin glanced at it, confirming the details. “Farewell, Madam Red Fox.”
“Goodbye. I won’t see you out,” she said coldly, her eyes narrowed. Cunning human.
After the big client left, she looked at the information in her hand and decided to wait for the city to quiet down before acting on it. However, since he was a regular soldier—upright and unlikely to kill indiscriminately—her eyes darted around as she plotted. Maybe she could find someone to stir up some trouble for that guy.
