- Chapter 11 - The Atmosphere Heats Up
Suddenly being interrogated, Yan Xun was dazed for a moment. However, he quickly figured out the reason. Bai Yang must have misunderstood! It was understandable; who would not be horrified to see their brother posing and flirting with another man? Putting himself in Bai Yang’s shoes, if he suddenly found Li He holding a wine glass and trying to drink a cross-cupped toast with a man, he would be disgusted too.
Thinking he had analyzed the situation correctly, Yan Xun secretly tugged at the corner of Bai Yang’s clothes. “Brother, do not misunderstand. I am just acting for the occasion.”
Bai Yang arched an eyebrow and gave a cold laugh. “Acting for the occasion. It seems you really know how to play.”
Yan Xun was confused. What was happening? Why did he feel like his explanation was only making things worse?
The surrounding crowd, seeing the two whispering in such a close and intimate manner, erupted in waves of cheering and screaming. The card task had a time limit and had to be completed within three minutes. Yan Xun glanced at the large electronic screen; he did not have much time left.
He spoke in a pleading tone, “Brother, my dear brother, just help me this once. I will definitely thank you properly later.”
Bai Yang’s pupils contracted slightly, but he remained silent. Seeing him unmoved, Yan Xun grew even more anxious. He lowered his voice and begged, “Brother, I am begging you.”
The soft, pleading tone and the shimmering, hopeful gaze of the young man were hard to ignore. For a split second, Bai Yang’s heart skipped a beat. By the time he snapped out of it, he had already uttered a single low word.
“Okay.”
As soon as he said it, Bai Yang’s brow furrowed. Giving in so easily was not a good sign for him. Yan Xun, completely unaware of Bai Yang’s internal struggle, immediately shoved a glass of wine into his hand the moment he got consent.
Bai Yang looked up to meet a bright, beaming smile. “Brother, I toast to you.”
Amidst the cheering, Yan Xun crossed his arm with Bai Yang’s. The intimate posture satisfied the ambiguous fantasies of the crowd. Under the glow of the warm lights, their intertwined arms seemed to radiate a clear sense of affection. Bai Yang glanced at Yan Xun’s eyes and eventually let out a helpless sigh.
Two men with peak visuals tilted their heads back and drank the cross-cupped toast. As they moved, the modern music shifted into traditional ancient wedding music, pushing the atmosphere to a fever pitch. Originally, the task would have been successful at this point, allowing Yan Xun to make a graceful exit. However, seeing the guests in high spirits, the host started a new trick under the boss’s instructions.
“Now that they have drunk the wedding toast, they are considered married, right?”
The crowd cheered loudly, “Yes! Yes! Yes!”
The host continued, “Since they are married, it is only right to call each other husband and wife, is it not?”
“Right! Right! Right!”
Yan Xun’s eyes widened, and he wished he could stab the host with a look. This part was not mentioned in the rules earlier! This was foul play!
The host ignored Yan Xun’s silent protest and smilingly stirred up the customers’ emotions. The atmosphere had been built up to this point; if Yan Xun refused, he would be disrespecting the entire audience. He glanced toward the boss, who was holding up a sign with four large words: “Bonus of 10,000!”
Yan Xun was silent. As a poor college student, under the temptation of a high bonus, he could not refuse at all. They had already drunk the toast, so what was a single title? It was just acting; he could do it!
Thus, Yan Xun cleared his throat and instantly channeled his inner actor. He cooperatively cupped Bai Yang’s face, putting on an affectionate expression, and called out loudly and enticingly, “Wife!”
Wife? Not husband?
In an instant, Bai Yang felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head. His teeth itched with irritation, and his entire aura shifted. He suddenly grabbed Yan Xun’s waist and pressed him down onto the sofa. This happened so fast that not just Yan Xun, but everyone in the room failed to react.
Looking again, the crowd went wild. A dominant, handsome man was pressing a young boy down, and the low laughter as he leaned in created a sexual tension that broke through the roof. Was this something they could watch for free just by having dinner at the bar?
Bai Yang tugged at his tie, his voice carrying a threatening rasp. “I will give you one chance to do it over. Think carefully about who the wife is.”
Yan Xun froze, then immediately realized his mistake. Right, what man could stand being teased and called a wife? He had not thought much of it just now; no wonder Bai Yang was angry. Yan Xun was straightforward; once he realized his error, he corrected it immediately.
He said with a cheeky grin, “Brother, I was wrong, I was wrong. With the power gap between us, you can only be the husband and I am the wife.”
Bai Yang scoffed but was in no hurry to let go. “Very good, you have some awareness. So, say it again.”
Yan Xun secretly rolled his eyes. Fine, it turned out this man was the type to seek revenge for the smallest grievance. He squeezed out a perfunctory smile, and intending to intentionally disgust the man, he pinched his throat to mimic the cloyingly sweet voice of a young girl and called out, “Hubby, you are pressing me so hard it hurts. Can you let me go? Hubby.”
If any man dared to call him that in that tone, he would definitely have nightmares all night. That was what Yan Xun thought, so after he finished, he gave Bai Yang a triumphant smile. Go have your nightmares! That is what you get for pressing me down!
However, Bai Yang’s reaction was somewhat different from what Yan Xun had expected. He did not know if he was seeing things, but did he just see Bai Yang’s ears turning red? Yan Xun did not have time to think about it; he quickly pushed Bai Yang away and got up to leave, fearing the host would come up with more nonsense to make things difficult for him.
The card game ended, and the customers returned to their tables with lingering excitement. Lin Heng, who had watched the whole thing from a close distance, was scared out of his wits. He leaned his head toward Bai Yang.
“Old Bai, give me a slap!”
Bai Yang glanced at him and said nothing, but he slapped his face without any mercy. Lin Heng felt the pain and cried out, rubbing his cheek. “So I am not dreaming.”
After a pause, he looked at Bai Yang suspiciously. “Old Bai, are you possessed by a ghost? You actually cooperated with such a vulgar game?”
Lin Heng could not even bear to recall the cognitive dissonance he felt when he heard that boy call Bai Yang “wife.” Wife? Someone actually had the guts to call Bai Yang “wife”? The key was that the person who called him that was not killed but instead skipped off happily to collect his bonus! This was harder to believe than being told aliens were attacking the Earth.
Bai Yang kept a grim face and did not answer Lin Heng’s question. The more silent he was, the more curious Lin Heng became. Lin Heng asked tentatively, “Do you know this boy?”
Bai Yang irritably poured a glass of wine and drank it all in one go. His silence was an admission. Lin Heng was stunned, and then, as if thinking of something, he asked again, “You know him, and you cooperated with his game so much. Do not tell me he is someone you are keeping?”
Hearing this, Bai Yang’s movements paused, and he eventually shook his head helplessly. “He is straight.”
