The Top-Tier Enigma’s Alpha is Both Pampered and Wild - Chapter 8
Reason and greed fought a battle in his mind. Ultimately, reason gained the upper hand. No, he absolutely could not do this. He bit his own arm, and as the taste of blood spread between his teeth, he regained a flicker of composure. He suddenly realized that he could still go to the hospital! Yes, the hospital! They had inhibitors there, plenty of them.
With trembling hands, Lu Yubai dialed Xu Zhiqiu’s number. He waited through several rings. With every “beep,” his body grew weaker, turning soft and parched with heat. By the time the call connected, he barely had the strength to hold the phone. Finally, the connection was made.
His voice was hoarse, his breath as thin as a thread. “Xu, Xu Zhiqiu, I, I am at Yan Chi’s, Yan Chi’s house.”
“What?” A cold voice came from the other end, carrying a hint of displeasure.
“I need, I need an inhibitor, the, the high potency kind.”
After speaking, the phone slipped from Lu Yubai’s hand and thudded onto the bed. He had no strength left, his entire body collapsing onto the mattress. The voice on the other end shifted from coldness to urgency.
“Lu Yubai, what is wrong? Why do you need an inhibitor?”
“Lu Yubai, can you hear me? Speak!”
The voice from the phone was very loud, audible even without the speakerphone. Lu Yubai heard it, but Xu Zhiqiu’s tone today was fierce, and he did not like it. He weakly moved his thin lips, forcing words out of his dry throat. “Come, come quickly.”
“Okay, okay. Wait for me.”
One hour later, Yan Chi arrived at the Yan residence. Throughout the entire villa, the scent of red wine pheromones could be smelled, ranging from faint to heavy. Yan Chi’s heart tightened, and he quickened his pace. He found Lu Yubai in his own room.
The scent of red wine in the room was rich, as if a wine vat had been overturned. Lu Yubai was lying on his bed, with many clothes scattered on the bed and floor—all belonging to Yan Chi. Lu Yubai was curled up in the quilt, his hands tightly clutching the sheets as he sniffed the faint scent of cedar on them.
Yan Chi did not return home often, so the pheromones on the quilt were very thin. To someone in heat, such a tiny amount of pheromones was like trying to put out a fire with a cup of water.
“Lu Yubai.” Seeing Lu Yubai in such a disheveled state, Yan Chi’s voice grew slightly hoarse. He could not imagine how Lu Yubai had managed to get through these past three years.
Yan Chi opened the silver-white case he was carrying and took out a high potency inhibitor. Hearing the noise, Lu Yubai slowly raised his eyes to look at Yan Chi. When his gaze swept over the inhibitor in Yan Chi’s hand, he quickly lowered his eyelids and began to tremble all over.
“No! I do not want it!”
He did not want the inhibitor. His voice was raspy as he rolled up the quilt and curled into a corner. His bloodshot eyes were filled with endless fear and helplessness. When he saw the needle, his entire body shook. This fear was deep-seated, reaching his very marrow.
For the past three years, he had relied entirely on high potency inhibitors to get through. This type of drug was very harmful to the body. Eventually, his body had developed a resistance; one or two doses could no longer keep him lucid for long.
Weakly, he rubbed his arms. In his struggle, his sleeves were pushed up, exposing dense needle marks on his arms. Yan Chi stared at those shocking marks, his pupils shrinking.
For these three years, had he been getting through by injecting drugs? Lu Yubai had never used the things Yan Chi had sent. Yan Chi’s heart skipped a beat, and the dark emotions under his black lashes began to twist at his flesh.
He cautiously approached the bedside, not daring to release any pheromones. Under the provocation of the red wine scent, his self-restraint was being tested to the limit. He swallowed, looking at Lu Yubai on the bed with burning eyes.
“Lu Yubai, do you want the inhibitor, or do you want me?”
There was extreme restraint in Yan Chi’s voice. His dark shadow loomed over the headboard, and Lu Yubai looked up at Yan Chi’s face. That usually cold face was now full of worry. This face was so beautiful.
Was he dreaming? In the 1,095 nights over the past three years, he had dreamed of Yan Chi countless times. Every time he woke up, the pillow was wet and Yan Chi had disappeared. All of it was fake. Yet, he would still feel happy because of Yan Chi’s presence in his dreams. He always deceived himself into thinking these dreams were evidence that Yan Chi missed him.
His consciousness was slowly being submerged. He hugged his legs, burying his head and his tears against his knees.
“Chi Chi, I do not want the inhibitor.”
He had injected too many inhibitors over these three years. He hated them. He was afraid just seeing them. The appearance of an inhibitor always reminded him of the scene where Yan Chi broke up with him.
Yan Chi set down the medicine and moved a step closer. “Then, what do you want?”
Would he want Yan Chi? Layers of emotion surged in Yan Chi’s eyes, and every layer was about Lu Yubai.
Because of Yan Chi’s proximity, Lu Yubai smelled a faint scent of cedar. He looked up quickly, the greed and longing in his eyes unconcealed. His eyes were red and filled with uncontrollable desire, looking both pitiful and provocative.
“I want to, smell the cedar.”
“Let me smell your pheromones, okay?”
Yan Chi’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “Okay.”
He began to release soothing pheromones. In the air, the scent of cedar and red wine met and blended. The refreshing cedar mixed with the mellow, sweet wine, creating a lingering fragrance.
The Alpha, having received comfort, felt much better. He moved closer to Yan Chi, his usual arrogance completely gone. He was like a kitten without any sense of security, clutching Yan Chi’s wrist tightly as if afraid he would disappear.
Lu Yubai moved toward Yan Chi bit by bit. He pushed aside the sheets, pressed himself against Yan Chi, and tightly wrapped his arms around Yan Chi’s waist. He sat on Yan Chi’s lap and greedily pressed into the crook of his neck, sniffing that cold cedar scent.
This was his Enigma. It smelled wonderful.
“Brother,” he whispered in a soft, sweet voice.
A flash of desire ignited in Yan Chi’s eyes, which were usually reserved and self-controlled. His Adam’s apple bobbed nervously. He grabbed the quilt and wrapped it tightly around Lu Yubai, bundling him up like a caterpillar.
Being bound, the longing in Lu Yubai’s eyes was replaced by a layer of disappointment. He looked so aggrieved he seemed ready to cry.
“Chi Chi.” His Chi Chi did not want him anymore.
“You will regret this,” Yan Chi said. His voice sounded like ancient ice.
“I will not.” Lu Yubai’s gaze was firm.
Facing Lu Yubai’s resolute eyes, Yan Chi’s gaze darkened. He only said, “I do not want to touch you.”
Lu Yubai was stunned. Those words were like a basin of cold water poured over the heat in his chest. From the extinguished fire, a thick smoke rose, making his eyes turn red. Lu Yubai lowered his head and did not look at him again.
The act from three years ago had been too successful. He had become an abandoned Alpha once more. Old memories surfaced as a sharp pain, waking him up a little. At this moment, he realized the truth. Even if they were married now, everything could not go back to the way it was.
With trembling hands, Lu Yubai pulled the quilt tighter around himself.
“Get out,” he said sharply, clinging to his remaining consciousness.
Yan Chi did not do as he was told. These were the roots of the trouble he had planted himself. He had to atone. He took off his jacket, rolled up his sleeve, and offered his hand to Lu Yubai.
“Bite me. I can help you.”
