The Top-Tier Enigma’s Alpha is Both Pampered and Wild - Chapter 7
“Brother,” Lu Xingchuan said, his voice somewhat hoarse. His head, tucked under a black baseball cap, hung very low. He did not dare to look up at Lu Yubai.
Lu Yubai reached out, put an arm around his shoulders, and patted him gently.
“I saw the video,” Lu Yubai said. “Compared to when I was your age, you are still lacking a bit.”
Lu Xingchuan’s eyes widened in surprise. He had expected a lecture, but Lu Yubai had not scolded him at all.
“Brother, you are not going to scold me? Do you not hate it most when I get into fights?”
He had loved fighting since he was a child. Every time he came home from a brawl, he would receive a beating from Lu Yubai. If he lost, he was beaten twice. If he won, his punishment depended entirely on Lu Yubai’s mood.
Lu Yubai smiled and shook his head. “When you were younger, I did not let you fight because I was afraid you would become unlearned, that you would only know how to use your status as the Second Young Master of the Lu family to show off. I wanted to establish authority over you.”
“But I forgot to teach you that in the face of people who use their power to bully others, you do not need to hide. The Lu family will always be your strongest backer.”
“In Jiangcheng, no one can bully you except for me!”
On the way over, Lu Yubai had already gathered the basic facts of the situation. Jiang Ming had used Jiang Hua’s connections to arrange private meetings with an Omega upperclassman, harassing her repeatedly and claiming that Omegas were born to be playthings for Alphas. Eventually, the woman was forced to drop out of school, yet the school did not discipline Jiang Ming. Lu Xingchuan had met her a few times, and upon hearing of this, he went alone to give Jiang Ming a beating.
It was not just for the upperclassman. Lu Xingchuan was an Omega and Jiang Ming was an Alpha, so naturally, he should not have been a match. Under the absolute suppression of pheromones, an Omega usually has no room to resist.
However, Lu Xingchuan had injected a short-acting sedative to temporarily block the pheromone suppression. Without that biological advantage, an ordinary Alpha was no match for him. Lu Xingchuan’s punches landed hard. Jiang Ming was left bruised and swollen with a broken rib, though it was not quite enough to be legally classified as a serious injury. That was why Jiang Hua had come to the school to settle the score.
The sunset today was exceptionally beautiful, with a warm red glow enveloping all of Jiangcheng. While the setting sun was brilliant and dazzling, that radiant crimson gradually dimmed in Lu Xingchuan’s eyes, losing its color. Melancholy crept over the half of his face illuminated by the twilight.
He turned to Lu Yubai and asked, “Brother, Omegas are born weak, so they are always bullied. I do not like this world. Why should Omegas be inferior?”
“Does everyone think the same way Jiang Ming does? That Omegas are born to”
Before he could finish, Lu Yubai punched him in the stomach, a heavy warning.
“You brat! Have you forgotten why you were fighting in the first place?”
Lu Xingchuan let out a muffled groan of pain. “Brother, you have no sportsmanship!” he cursed while clutching his stomach.
Lu Yubai gave a contemptuous laugh. “Hah! When your brother was making a name for himself in Jiangcheng, I relied on three things: first, the power of money; second, my fighting skills; and third, no sportsmanship!”
The Lu Residence
Lu Yubai was busy loading bags and boxes into his car. Bai Chuan, Lu Bo, and Lu Xingchuan watched him quietly, none of them lifting a finger to help.
Lu Yubai curled his lip. “What a cold-hearted family.”
Lu Bo gave a disdainful smile. “Two Omegas cannot help you, and the only Alpha here is your old man, and I do not want to help you!”
Lu Yubai: …
Damn.
In other families, Omegas were soft, charming, and obedient, terrified of upsetting an Alpha and being suppressed by powerful pheromones. In their family, the two Omegas were unique. Lu Xingchuan could fight better than an Alpha, and Bai Chuan was the pampered jewel of the family who would not lift a finger for manual labor.
He accepted his fate. By the time Lu Yubai finished packing, his forehead was covered in sweat.
Seeing that he was about to leave and Yan Chi had still not arrived, Bai Chuan frowned with displeasure. “Where is Yan Chi? Is he not coming to help you?”
“He is very busy at the research institute,” Lu Yubai explained. “I am heading to his house now. Dad, go to sleep early. I will call you when I arrive.”
Just as Bai Chuan was about to say something, Lu Bo pushed him upstairs. Once Bai Chuan was out of sight, Lu Bo hurried back down and stuffed a card into Lu Yubai’s hand. “Do not come back unless you have a reason!”
Then, he turned a sharp gaze toward Lu Xingchuan. “Starting tomorrow, you are not to come back either!”
Lu Yubai: … Lu Xingchuan: …
Damn. He favors his wife and destroys his sons!
When Lu Yubai was packing, he had only mentioned that he had not caught up with Yan Chi in a long time and wanted to stay there for a while. He did not expect to be kicked out of the house so thoroughly.
When Lu Yubai arrived at Yan Chi’s villa, it was dark and silent. Yan Chi had indeed not returned yet. After organizing his things, Lu Yubai took a shower and prepared for bed.
As he reached for a towel, his finger accidentally hooked onto another one in the bathroom. It was only when he brought it close that he realized he had grabbed the wrong one. This black towel belonged to Yan Chi.
In the steam-filled bathroom, his face turned visibly red. He stared at his fingertips, his eyes swirling with longing and attachment. He rubbed his hands together and unconsciously brought his fingers to his nose to sniff them.
A faint scent of cedar remained on his fingertips. It was the scent of Yan Chi’s pheromones. It smelled wonderful.
Lu Yubai’s gaze gradually became dazed. His breathing quickened involuntarily. Ambiguous memories from three years ago flashed before his eyes, overlapping with the familiar bathroom in his mind.
Gradually, Lu Yubai’s body began to feel hot and weak. Red wine-scented pheromones quickly filled the room.
“Oh, no.”
He was actually going into heat.
An Alpha who has been marked by an Enigma will experience heat cycles just like an Omega. When he was marked three years ago, the bond was not deep, but because Enigmas are extremely rare, no medicine has been developed to wash away Enigma pheromones. Furthermore, even a temporary Enigma mark lasts at least three years.
He had calculated it carefully. Three years had passed. He should not be experiencing heat cycles anymore.
So why, upon smelling Yan Chi’s pheromones, was he in heat once again? Why was this happening?
Lu Yubai did not have the strength to think. He quickly hung the towel back up and hurried out of the bathroom as if he were trying to escape something. He began to flip through things frantically: the living room, the study, the bedroom.
He was looking for an inhibitor.
But Yan Chi’s house did not have any inhibitors. He was on the verge of a breakdown. Without anything to help, how was he supposed to get through these long three days?
He did not dare go anywhere. He did not even dare go home, let alone look for Yan Chi.
Lu Yubai sat on the bed, curled up in a corner in despair. A wicked thought popped into his mind: he wanted to smell something that carried the scent of cedar.
There must be something in Yan Chi’s room.
This wicked thought took root in his heart, slowly dismantling his consciousness.
