The Top-Tier Enigma’s Alpha is Both Pampered and Wild - Chapter 13
On the other end of the line, Lu Bo said something that caused Lu Yubai to chuckle twice in delight before hanging up.
Beside him, however, Yan Chi’s expression was grim.
Lu Yubai had been fighting again.
He knew Lu Yubai was not injured, but the man had only been back in the country for five days. For the last three of those days, they had been together constantly. They had also seen each other during the first two days, so when exactly did Lu Yubai find the time to go out and fight?
Yan Chi’s brow furrowed, and his foot on the accelerator lost its restraint. Seeing his stony face and the increasing speed of the car, Lu Yubai nervously gripped the interior door handle.
“Yan Chi, we are not in a hurry to be reincarnated, are we?”
“I am only twenty-eight and just got married.”
“Can you slow down? I have not had enough of you yet.”
Lu Yubai swallowed hard in fear.
Yan Chi remained silent. Slowly, his rationality returned, and he reduced the car’s speed, though he still did not utter a word. Lu Yubai’s eyes darted around as a thought occurred to him.
“Are you angry? Is it because I got into a fight?”
Seeing that Yan Chi still would not speak, Lu Yubai continued to coax him. “It was not really a fight. It was just that I unilaterally gave him a punch. He was bullying my brother. You know how protective I am.”
“The situation is not a big deal. I”
Before Lu Yubai could finish, Yan Chi spoke. “I. Am. Not. Angry.”
Lu Yubai: …
And he claimed he was not angry?
“It was just one punch. I have studied the law. Rest assured, at most I will just have to pay a small fine. I have a sense of proportion!”
“I have been very good these past three years. I did not hit anyone while I was abroad. Every day, besides working, I was just thinking of you. I do not smoke or drink anymore. I am as well-behaved as a kitten!”
Lu Yubai looked at Yan Chi expectantly, as if the words “Please Praise Me” were floating above his head. Yan Chi gave him a cold, sharp glance, his eyes reflecting the chilling light of a blade.
“You do not need to tell me about your private life. I do not want to hear it.”
The smile faded from Lu Yubai’s face, and his gaze darkened. A wave of complex emotions rushed over him: grievance, bitterness, and helplessness all intertwined, threatening to submerge him.
It seemed Yan Chi truly did not care about him anymore. In the past, Yan Chi would always get angry whenever he got into a fight. But now
His eyes grew moist, and his long lashes brushed against his eyelids as the rims of his eyes turned slightly red.
“But I want to tell you. I really have been very good these past three years.”
His soft, obedient voice sounded exactly like a kitten’s, making it impossible not to feel a sense of pity.
Yan Chi stepped on the brakes, his expression icy. “We are here.”
Lu Yubai looked out the window. The two large characters for “Jinghua” came into view. He had arrived at the company.
“Oh.”
Lu Yubai curled his lip and sighed in disappointment. How annoying! Why did Lu Bo have to build the company so close?
As he unfastened his seatbelt, he gave his instructions. “Take the car to the research institute. Come pick me up after work tonight.”
Yan Chi was about to refuse, but Lu Yubai cut him off. “You said you would be a qualified husband.”
Yan Chi was silent for two seconds. “Fine. What time do you finish?”
“Usually at four-thirty,” Lu Yubai replied. “But the company is preparing new products for the next quarter. The planning proposal has not been finalized yet, so things are a bit busy. It will probably be around eight or nine o’clock.”
“Alright. I will come at eight,” Yan Chi said.
Satisfied with getting his way, Lu Yubai got out of the car. He was reluctant to leave, so he stood by the roadside with his legs crossed, watching Yan Chi drive away. That cold-hearted man had left without even saying goodbye.
Lu Yubai was unhappy.
By the time he entered the company, his entire aura had shifted. His brow was furrowed, a layer of frost covered his face, and he exuded an air of stern coldness. He walked into his office with crisp, sharp steps. He had not been sitting for three minutes before his secretary arrived with documents to report on the past two days of progress.
After the briefing, the secretary looked at Lu Yubai as he sat in his swivel chair with a heavy expression. The cold atmosphere surrounding him made her heart race with trepidation. It felt as though a powerful magnetic field was being suppressed beneath the office, and the master of that field was Lu Yubai!
The secretary’s voice trembled. “President Lu, this is what happened over the last three days.”
“Was this proposal written with someone’s feet? This data research is ridiculously fake! Do you think I am unfamiliar with the domestic market just because I recently returned?”
“A company this large brings me something like this to fulfill a task? Are you trying to fool a child?”
“Take it back and redo it!”
Lu Yubai threw the documents into the air. The secretary trembled with fear. She began to cry as she picked up the papers from the floor, which were tears born from sheer physiological terror.
Lu Yubai showed no mercy. He slammed his hand on the desk. “Write three draft proposals by six o’clock this evening. Do not eat until you are finished. We have a meeting at seven, and I want the plan finalized by eight. Do you understand?”
“Yes, President Lu.”
After quickly gathering the papers, the secretary hurried out of Lu Yubai’s office. News of the incident spread through the company almost instantly.
Three years ago, everyone knew that the Eldest Young Master of the Lu family was an unlearned playboy with a bad temper, a penchant for outbursts, and a tendency to hang around with the wrong crowd like a common hoodlum. But now
Rumors that the Eldest Young Master had gone mad echoed through the entire company within a single hour.
In an office elsewhere, Yan Chi stood before a desk wearing his gold-rimmed glasses. He was surrounded by a cedar-scented aura that inspired instinctive fear and dread. He slid a slender finger across the desk, then gently rubbed his fingertips together, his deep gaze locked onto them.
His low voice carried a lethal pressure. “Tell me, which side of your face did you use to hit him?”
Although he did not even glance at Jiang Hua, the other man was so terrified that his body went limp, and he collapsed onto the floor. Jiang Hua looked up at Yan Chi, his trembling hand gripping the corner of the desk.
“Master Yan! I… I did not hit him! He is an Alpha; I could not beat him! He was the one who hit me! Look, my face is still swollen!”
“After I got back, I realized I had even lost a tooth! There is a gap when I speak now! I really did not hit him! Master Yan, I was wrong. I truly did not know Lu Yubai was so close to you!”
“If I had known, I certainly would not have been stupid enough to walk into the line of fire!”
As Jiang Hua spoke, he covered his mouth, spraying saliva through the gap in his teeth. Yan Chi looked down at him, his eyes like cold pools filled with disgust. His condescending gaze was like that of someone looking at a repulsive insect, which was contemptuous and dismissive.
“Oh,” he said with a faint, cold smile. “So it was the right side of your face you used.”
An endless ferocity appeared in the depths of Yan Chi’s eyes. Jiang Hua shrank back in fear. “Master Yan, you… I really did not know about your relationship! If I had known from the start that Lu Xingchuan was Lu Yubai’s brother, I would never have offended him!”
Yan Chi’s dark eyes flickered, and his voice was elegant yet sharp. “He is not just Lu Xingchuan’s brother. He is also—my wife!”
At seven-fifty in the evening, Yan Chi waited for Lu Yubai at the entrance of Jinghua. He did not go upstairs. At eight-twenty, Yan Chi’s phone rang.
It was a WeChat contact verification request.
