The Top-Tier Enigma’s Alpha is Both Pampered and Wild - Chapter 14
[“Yan Chi’s Wife” requests to add you as a friend.]
Yan Chi: [ … ]
[“Your Ex-boyfriend” requests to add you as a friend.]
[“Lu Yubai” requests to add you as a friend.]
Yan Chi curled his lips into a smile and accepted the friend request.
Lu Yubai, who was currently scratching his head in frustration at his office desk, finally calmed down when he saw the verification message go through. He quickly withdrew all the previous friend requests he had sent.
He left only one: [“Yan Chi’s Husband” requests to add you as a friend.]
Yan Chi: [I have accepted your friend request. We can now start chatting.]
Yan Chi: [ … ]
He can actually play it like this?
Lu Yubai: [I have another meeting in about twenty minutes. I am so hungry, I might collapse from exhaustion!]
[Wife, are you downstairs yet?]
[Do you want to come up and sit for a while?]
[Wife, where are you? You were replying instantly just a second ago.]
[Yan Chi, I was wrong. I will stop teasing you.]
He spammed the chat, but Yan Chi did not reply at all.
Thinking that Yan Chi might still be working at the research institute, Lu Yubai stopped messaging and focused on his work. By the time he finished, it was nearly nine o’clock.
A rainstorm broke out just as the meeting adjourned. Employees left one by one; some drove themselves, while others were picked up by their partners. Only Lu Yubai sat alone in his office, feeling like a “left-behind child.” He wondered what his “guardian” was doing and why his messages were still ignored.
Just as he thought he would have to spend the night in the office, a knock sounded at the door. Thinking it was his secretary, he said coldly, “Come in.”
The door opened, and as the person approached his desk, Lu Yubai did not even open his eyes. He was rubbing his brow, looking utterly exhausted. “Leave the documents here. I will look at them tomorrow.”
The person did not respond. However, the sound of the object being set down was heavy, not like the rustle of papers.
He opened his eyes and saw Yan Chi standing before his desk, completely drenched. Water dripped from his hair and down his noble, cold face; it was hard to tell if it was sweat or rain. On the desk sat a thermos of porridge.
“Yan Chi,” Lu Yubai’s voice was slightly hoarse, and his eyes felt a bit stinging. He knew Yan Chi would not ignore him. Yan Chi would never leave him behind; he could not bear to.
Lu Yubai’s eyes turned red. For a moment, it felt as if time had flowed back three years, filling his heart with warmth.
“Drink it while it is hot,” Yan Chi said. He turned and took off his wet white coat, hanging it to the side. It was a white trench coat, not the lab coat from this morning. The thermos was not a disposable container either. Yan Chi must have gone home first.
“Did you make this?” Lu Yubai asked, his eyes shimmering with tears as affection wove through his heart. Perhaps Yan Chi was not so bad after all.
Seeing his strange expression, Yan Chi corrected him, “This is what a husband does.”
Lu Yubai understood the meaning behind those words. Hmph, liar. He knew Yan Chi would not cook for anyone else. He happily opened the porridge; the taste was as excellent as always.
After finishing, the two went downstairs together. Outside, the rain was still pouring. The ground was flooded with puddles every few steps. Lu Yubai intentionally stepped into the puddles to splash water on Yan Chi. Yan Chi was a clean freak who loved wearing white; such rainy days were the most uncomfortable for him.
Furthermore, because Lu Yubai hogged most of the umbrella, Yan Chi’s trench coat was unimaginably dirty by the time they reached the car. However, the culprit fell asleep as soon as his head hit the seat. Lu Yubai was truly too tired.
By the time they reached the Yan residence, the rain had stopped, but Lu Yubai had not woken up. Knowing he was exhausted, Yan Chi called his name twice with no response, so he had to carry him inside. He placed Lu Yubai on the bed, but the moment he set him down, Lu Yubai woke up.
He immediately grabbed Yan Chi, who was about to leave. Like a child throwing himself into a parent’s arms, he said aggrievedly, “Chi Chi, they are all being bad. They are bullying me. They do not listen to me and they even brushed me off!”
Yan Chi’s brow furrowed, anger flickering between his eyes.
Lu Yubai continued, “They would not even let me eat!”
Yan Chi’s face darkened even further. Lu Yubai squinted one eye slightly to peek at Yan Chi’s reaction, but Yan Chi caught the movement instantly.
Yan Chi pried Lu Yubai’s hands off him, exposing his act without mercy. “Next time, remember to coordinate your story with your employees before you try to act pitiful.”
While waiting for Lu Yubai, Yan Chi had already heard no fewer than ten different nicknames the employees had for him.
Lu Yubai: [ … ]
Damn it. Who came up with those! He fumed silently.
Lu Yubai’s gaze flickered. He awkwardly rubbed his nose and insisted stubbornly, “You cannot believe rumors about the boss.” Seeing that Yan Chi was soaked through and water was still dripping from his hair, he quickly added, “Go take a shower quickly so you do not catch a cold.”
Yan Chi left. When he went into the bathroom, he even locked the door.
Lu Yubai was speechless. Was he guarding against me? Am I that kind of person?
He gave a light snort, went back to his room, and turned on some music, intentionally making it very loud. He walked to the door and gave the door handle several heavy kicks.
Ten minutes later, when Yan Chi came out of the bathroom, Lu Yubai was squatting pitifully outside his room, looking utterly miserable.
“My door is broken. Please let me stay in here.”
Yan Chi arched an eyebrow. “The door is broken?”
How could that be? He looked at Lu Yubai with a skeptical gaze, but Lu Yubai remained firm. Yan Chi walked over to look. Pieces of the door handle were scattered all over the floor. At a glance, it was obvious the handle had been kicked and then dismantled. The evidence was far too heavy handed.
“I will find someone to fix it tomorrow. Today,”
“Today I can only sleep with you. I am truly sorry. I just wanted to open the door, and I did not expect the handle to just fall off!” Lu Yubai spoke rapidly, fearing he would be rejected if he paused for even a second.
“Lu Yubai,” Yan Chi began.
Lu Yubai interrupted him, “Yan Chi, the quality of the doors in your house is too poor! I will find someone to fix it tomorrow!”
Yan Chi was silent. The calculations were so loud they were practically hitting him in the face.
“There are other empty rooms in my house.”
Yan Chi raised his eyelids, his gaze darkening slightly.
Lu Yubai froze as if he had been struck by lightning. Damn it. I forgot… next time for sure!
Because the company’s products for the next quarter were undergoing testing, market research, and a series of promotional events, Lu Yubai was busy for several days in a row. Yan Chi’s research institute was also very busy. The two spoke very little.
Amidst their busy schedules, they took a few afternoons to visit Grandfather Yan. After seeing their marriage certificates, the old man wanted to throw a massive banquet, but they declined his suggestion, citing a desire to keep things low profile. Grandfather Yan listened to whatever Lu Yubai said and did not push the matter.
During other times, they were both busy with their own work. To Lu Yubai’s surprise, before he even had a chance to take action, Jiang Hua left Jiang City without a word, and that snobbish teacher was also fired. Lu Yubai simply smiled indifferently; it seemed his reputation as the “Bully of Jiang City” was still effective after three years.
Once he finally had some free time, he was called home for a day because of his “protective” actions. Lu Bo presented him with a small red banner, praising his heroic deed of protecting the vulnerable Omega in the family.
Just as everything seemed busy and fulfilling, a single phone call shattered the peace.
It was the police calling. “Hello, is this Mr. Lu Yubai? This is the Jiang City District Police Station. Old Mr. Yang has committed suicide, and he left a suicide note for you.”
Lu Yubai’s eyelashes trembled.
A suicide note.
