Chapter 8: Assistant 1.0
According to the standard process, Bai Xun should have reported his change of subject matter to his team. However, since he hadn’t fully fleshed out the scripts yet, he wanted to have at least three episodes ready before he felt confident enough to present them.
AA Lucky Little Bai: @All Members, I’m planning to launch a new theme next week. The current content is getting too homogenized, and the audience might get bored. The new scripts are in progress. I’ll probably hold a meeting in a couple of days to discuss. Thanks for the hard work! 🙂
Not long after the message was sent, the screen was flooded with a uniform row of “Received.”
Bai Xun didn’t realize that, at his current level, he technically didn’t “deserve” a dedicated team yet. He simply thought the company’s higher-ups were being “wise and cooperative.” Thinking about how much trouble this would save him later, he was in high spirits.
Since I have a team now, a simple brainstorming session should be easier than racking my brain alone, he thought.
Bai Xun quickly organized a draft, grabbed his laptop, and hopped on a shared bike to head to the company. This time, he entered through the back door; no one noticed him except for the cleaning staff.
Since it was working hours, he recognized a few familiar faces from his team. Just as he was about to call them for a meeting, he spotted the supervisor standing next to the planner. He didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but his sharp eyes caught a chat window open on the planner’s computer—it was the message he had sent twenty minutes ago.
Fortunately, as a canine beastman, Bai Xun had incredibly keen hearing. Standing behind a wall, he easily overheard their conversation.
“Brother Zhang, this isn’t right, is it?”
“He has a background; does it matter how the video turns out? Yu Congyue can cover for him. Besides, the new theme he came up with—you guys couldn’t think of it in a million years. Are you sure you can give me something better?”
“But it’s Little Bai’s own idea. If we just misappropriate it for Teacher Di, and if he gets angry…”
“By the time his ideas are finalized, you’ll need time to prepare, right? I can see he doesn’t understand company procedures very well. Just stall him. He doesn’t lack money, but other streamers are waiting to eat. By the time they start filming, who’s to say he didn’t just come in a step late? Do I really have to teach you this?”
“But…”
“Enough crap. Do the job or get out.”
“…”
For a moment, Bai Xun didn’t know how to feel. From an employee’s perspective, he understood the planner’s forced compromise. But from a creator’s perspective, whether voluntary or not, if this actually happened, their behavior was no different from robbery.
He hugged his laptop and silently left through the back door. The weather was nice, so he sat on a bench in a nearby park, squinting in the warm sunlight. The heat made him feel drowsy.
Enjoying the pleasant sun, he took a long sigh, repeating the mantra, “Don’t get angry, don’t get angry; if you get sick from rage, no one will take your place.” This finally suppressed the fire rising in his chest.
Once calmed, Bai Xun opened the MCN backend. Perhaps for motivational purposes, the company ranked the month’s confirmed business collaborations by commission. He immediately saw “DiDi Didi” at the top—likely the “Teacher Di” the supervisor mentioned. Looking at the associated brand logo, it looked familiar. A quick search revealed it was a T1-level sports brand. No wonder the commission was 3 million yuan per video.
A sports brand, huh… A memory of a viral adventure video from his original world flashed through Bai Xun’s mind—one that had over ten million likes on a single platform.
Since the company is being unfair first, don’t blame me for being ruthless.
He adjusted his emotions and sent another message to the group.
AA Lucky Little Bai: I’ll be at the company in about 15 minutes. Is it convenient to have a meeting to discuss the new theme?
Planner Tini: No problem, Mr. Bai. Copywriter Yiyi: Okay. Editor Lu Ming: OK.

The Meeting
Fifteen minutes later, Bai Xun sat in the small meeting room, greeting the team as if nothing had happened. The team members, however, looked visibly guilty.
“Time is limited. This time, I want to focus on outdoor content. It’s a big jump, so I’ll need your help brainstorming.”
Tini, the planner who was worried about style mismatches, was surprised. He thought Bai Xun would stay in the lifestyle niche. He hadn’t expected a complete pivot. “Outdoor? Could you be more specific, Mr. Bai?”
“Well, I’ve noticed that no one is doing real-world outdoor brand testing yet. Since the goal is monetization, I think a combination of ‘Review Vlogger’ and ‘Outdoor Adventure’ would be very interesting.”
“Reviews?”
“Exactly. Testing the quality of brand products and giving consumers honest feedback.”
“But won’t that offend the brands?” Tini was skeptical.
“I’m going for the ‘people’s route’ anyway. I’ve already thought of the slogan: ‘Only through true practice do I dare to review.’ We find a few outdoor brands and go to some remote, harsh locations for testing. It fits the brand’s rugged image and builds immense goodwill. We can even call out a few low-quality brands to avoid; it’s great for building fan loyalty.”
Bai Xun shared the idea while downplaying the risks, showing them a few nature reserves on his screen.
“But these are nature reserves… is that okay?”
“But has anyone filmed there before?”
In fact, the team was very optimistic about this new idea. It balanced commercial appeal with innovation. From a consumer’s perspective, the attraction of an honest review was immeasurable.
It’s just a pity such a good idea…
“The theme is great, but the prep time might be long. Sourcing brands and scouting locations will take time. We estimate it’ll take about a month, Mr. Bai,” Tini said, looking at the “unaware” Bai Xun with a hint of pity. They took down his notes and bit the bullet to say those words.
“Ah, that’s fine. I understand. Anyway, I have to prepare for Brother Yu’s offline events soon, so I wouldn’t be able to start that quickly anyway. Some details still need polishing. Shall we end it here for today?”
Bai Xun, of course, noticed their looks. He didn’t want to burn all bridges yet—after all, theme approval still had to go through superiors. If they stopped now, there was still hope. But if they chose to leak his ideas… Well, based on what he knew, they would likely fall into every pitfall the “failed vloggers” of his original world had stepped into.
With both sides hiding their true thoughts, the meeting ended “harmoniously.”

Assistant 1.0 Begins
Back home, Bai Xun worked overtime for several hours to create a detailed script, which he packaged and sent to Tracy. Within an hour, he was added to a new group. Based on the tags, these were all employees of Yu Congyue’s personal studio.
Tracy: @Bai Xun, Xiao Bai, this is Matt @Matt. You’ve met him. We looked at your script; it’s very detailed. Regarding the commercial secrets you mentioned, Brother Yu talked to the crew. If you’re free, you can join the set tomorrow for a day of filming.
Bai Xun: Tomorrow? Is that really okay? Won’t it affect the filming progress?
Tracy: It’s fine, everyone’s been notified. As long as you don’t film too much of the plot, it’s basically free promotion for us.
Matt: Ayyy, Mr. Bai, just call me Matt! Tomorrow starts early. Can I pick you up at your place at 6:50 AM?
Bai Xun: That works! Just call me Xiao Bai.
Matt: OK, I’ll send you the schedule. See you tomorrow.
Next, a 15MB file was uploaded to the group. Bai Xun opened it—it was comprehensive, covering everything from daily habits to work spreadsheets, plus tomorrow’s specific schedule. He didn’t dare miss a single detail, analyzing the file for over three hours before rushing to bed, terrified of making a mistake the next day.
He woke up before 5:30 AM. After a quick cleanup, he made two sandwiches, packed one in a box, and changed into practical outdoor clothes. He fixed the sports camera to his chest and waited at the gate while eating the other sandwich.
“Xiao Bai, you’re so early! Have you been waiting long?”
Twenty minutes later, Matt drove up. From a distance, he saw Bai Xun sitting on a stone pillar, tail wagging. He rolled down the window and greeted him. Bai Xun checked his watch—it wasn’t even 6:30 yet.
“No, no, I just couldn’t sleep, haha.” Seeing the dark circles under Matt’s eyes, Bai Xun hesitated before asking, “Bro, I have a driver’s license. How about you set the navigation and I drive?”
Matt yawned and didn’t stand during the ceremony. He got out, patted Bai Xun’s shoulder gratefully, and said, “Good man, Xiao Bai. I’m counting on you.”
Bai Xun got into the driver’s seat and handed the boxed sandwich to Matt. “I saw you post on WeChat Moments yesterday about missing breakfast. I happened to make some today; eat up and then get some sleep.”
Matt looked at the high-quality sandwich with disbelief. He looked like he was about to cry from joy. “Why don’t you just switch jobs and join us? The pay is high, and someone as attentive as you is hard to find. Thank you, Xiao Bai.”
Bai Xun laughed it off. The drive to the set was about an hour. He gripped the steering wheel; back in his original world, he had worked as a private tour guide, so driving was second nature. Matt finished the sandwich, praised it again, and fell fast asleep within minutes.
Having read Matt’s work notes the night before, Bai Xun knew how saturated the life assistant’s workload was. He understood the exhaustion, so he quietly turned up the heater to let Matt sleep peacefully.
“Matt, we’re here.” The car had a pass, so after a quick check, Bai Xun parked in the designated spot. He packed his bag and gently woke Matt.
Matt sat up with a start, blinked hard, and gave high praise to Bai Xun’s driving. “Xiao Bai, where did you learn to drive? You’re steadier than I am, and I’ve been doing this for years!”
Matt wiped his face with a wet wipe, pulled out two walkie-talkies, set the channel, and handed one to Bai Xun. “There might be no signal at this filming location. If someone doesn’t reply for more than two minutes, use the radio.”
After a few more instructions, Matt led Bai Xun to Yu Congyue’s dressing room. Tracy greeted them from a distance. Inside, Yu Congyue, who was getting his hair done, looked up through the mirror.
“You’re here?”
