- The System Wants Me To Save A Lucky Tycoon [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 12 - The Tycoon with a Mental Illness (12)
Xie Lin knew he had gone further into madness. He was now so insane that he lacked a shred of reason, his mind and heart filled entirely with Lin Junqing.
Lin Junqing still did not understand Xie Lin’s affection for him. Why would anyone like another person for no reason? Unable to solve this puzzle, he looked at Xie Lin earnestly and said, “I will stay, but I will not take your money.”
If he were truly Xie Lin’s lover, he would accept a gift of wealth. But he was not; he had no right to Xie Lin’s fortune. Xie Lin did not insist. Many things could change in three years, and no matter how Lin Junqing changed, he would keep him bound to his side. He would ensure Lin Junqing never had to worry about food or clothing, and that he would never be troubled by money. After all, Xie Lin had no skills other than making money.
Xie Lin disliked the villa, finding it too noisy, and wanted to recover on the small island. Seeing that Lin Junqing was unwilling, he began to feign pity.
“I only have three years left to live. The most beautiful memories of my life were on that island, and I do not want to forget them. I do not know if the toxins will damage my memory, and I want to live in a place that makes me happy.”
There were too many variables in the city. If Lin Junqing insisted on leaving, his own broken body would be unable to stop him. Lin Junqing hesitated. He disliked the island immensely; it was filled with memories he preferred to suppress. Yet, unable to face the pitiful-looking Xie Lin, he simply used an excuse to put him off.
“I cannot cook, nor can I do chores.”
During the months they lived on the island previously, Xie Lin had done all the cooking and housework. Now, Xie Lin’s body was like a fragile crystal bottle that could not withstand the slightest exertion. Seeing Lin Junqing’s softening attitude, Xie Lin knew his act had succeeded and did not give him another chance to refuse.
“I will arrange everything. This time, it will not just be the two of us. Now that I am in this state, you do not need to worry about me bullying you anymore.”
Xie Lin finished with a faint smile. Lin Junqing asked the system in confusion, “How can Xie Lin still smile? Is he not afraid of death?”
The system replied dully, “Xie Lin is a darkened Child of Destiny, and he is a complete lunatic. A madman should fear nothing, and certainly, he would not fear death. Many madmen enjoy death, or even look forward to it. Host, Xie Lin has three years left to live; his mind is currently very fragile. As long as you can reform him and get his sunshine value back into the positive range, our mission will have hope again.”
There was hope for completing the mission, but Lin Junqing felt no joy. Xie Lin was a madman; even if he were dying, he would not be easily reformed. That sunshine value of -100 was not just for show; the system was simply daydreaming.
Lin Junqing’s dissatisfaction and resentment toward Xie Lin faded away once he learned Xie Lin had only three years left. All emotions and grievances would eventually dissipate with death.
This trip to the island did not involve just a lonely plane; there were three passenger jets, each capable of seating over a hundred people. The medical team alone filled one entire plane. Lin Junqing felt like a country bumpkin who had never seen the world; after arriving at the airport, he pressed against the car window, looking around in awe.
Xie Lin wanted Lin Junqing to live with him in the same courtyard as before. Lin Junqing stood outside, looking resistant, unable to bring himself to step inside. Those absurd days felt as if they were only yesterday; he truly did not want to step foot in that courtyard again.
Xie Lin, enduring the pain in his body, coughed a few times while covering his mouth. He looked at Lin Junqing with innocent eyes. “I cannot do anything to you in my state, so why are you on guard against me?” Then, Xie Lin laughed. “I am very happy that you are willing to accompany me here.”
The system urged Lin Junqing, “Xie Lin’s sunshine value is -100, and he has only three short years of life left. Host, even if you do not like him, do not go against him. His current mindset is certainly darker than before. I advised you to leave earlier, but you did not. On this island, Xie Lin is like a god. He could easily orchestrate an accident and make you disappear without a sound.”
Lin Junqing thought the system was exaggerating. When Xie Lin’s sunshine value was -20, his behavior was no different from now. Even when his sunshine value was positive, he had still done those things to him. Thus, using the sunshine value to judge Xie Lin’s behavior was highly inaccurate. The system saw that Lin Junqing did not seem to care, though it was also puzzled. All its experience came from forums; other systems claimed that a darkened Child of Destiny was extremely dangerous. Yet, Xie Lin had darkened to -100 and had never harmed Lin Junqing. Perhaps the system was just overthinking it.
In the end, Lin Junqing stepped into the courtyard, for if he did not, Xie Lin would not enter either, choosing instead to sit in his wheelchair, pale and coughing. Every cough tugged at Lin Junqing’s heart; he was terrified that Xie Lin would cough up blood the next second. Lin Junqing did not know what to do; he had long since lost interest in the island’s scenery. Xie Lin spent the better part of the day undergoing treatment, attended to by dedicated medical staff. Lin Junqing began binge-watching shows and listening to music; when he felt truly bored, he would sleep.
Xie Lin asked Chen Dong to report on company matters, but Lin Junqing would not listen, clearly stating to Xie Lin that he would not accept his property or his company. Xie Lin lowered his gaze, his tone dejected. “The Xie family is full of greedy fools. I would rather burn my money than leave it to them. The only thing I cannot let go of is you. Do you not like money, or do you not like my money?”
Xie Lin truly had not expected Lin Junqing to refuse. His assets were not a mere few hundred million; if Lin Junqing were willing, exposing just a fraction of his wealth would make him the richest person in the country. Was there anyone in this world who did not like money? Lin Junqing must like money; the only person he did not like was Xie Lin.
Lin Junqing felt exhausted and told Xie Lin earnestly once again, “I really do not want your money. You can donate it to the country or give it to charity. I have hands and feet; when you are gone, I will take care of myself. I am not going to marry, and I have no relatives to support. Why would I need so much money?”
He felt guilty, believing he was the cause of Xie Lin’s condition. If he accepted the money, his heart would weigh even heavier. Most importantly, he did not want to owe Xie Lin anything.
Xie Lin took a portion of his assets and gave them to charity right in front of Lin Junqing. Only then did he believe that Lin Junqing truly did not want his money. Xie Lin sneered; Lin Junqing not wanting his money was merely his way of drawing a line, not wanting to owe him anything.
Life on the island was calm. Xie Lin spent more and more time sleeping, and since Lin Junqing did not like talking to people, he often sat on the hillside for half the day.
In the evening, the system sounded an alarm: “Host, be careful! There is a highly venomous bamboo pit viper two meters away from you.”
The island had a thriving ecosystem; Lin Junqing simply assumed it was an accident and took a detour to avoid the snake. The next day, when Lin Junqing went out, he was almost hit by a roof tile sliding off. On the third day, Lin Junqing went for his usual walk by the stream, only to find a king cobra hiding at the bend. On the fourth day, the chef specifically served fresh fugu.
Lin Junqing recalled all the accidents he had encountered over the past few days. When there are too many accidents, they are no longer accidents. The system stated firmly, “Host, I am certain the fugu on your plate is problematic.”
Xie Lin’s health was poor, and his daily meals consisted of a restricted diet. The food prepared by the kitchen was meant for him. Lin Junqing leaned against his chair, exhausted, reflecting on the recent events. If the system had not warned him, he would have been bitten by the snakes long ago. This island was Xie Lin’s private property; he had never seen bamboo pit vipers or king cobras here before. The weather had only just warmed up; where were all these poisonous snakes coming from?
Lin Junqing asked the system, “If I die because of these accidents, can I return to the soul space?”
The system replied, “Yes, you can return. If a host dies by accident, the Heavenly Way deems the mission abandoned. The soul’s origin is only damaged if the host is killed by the Child of Destiny’s own hand. You must be careful; it must be by his hand. Even if these accidents were orchestrated by Xie Lin, your soul would not be harmed if you die from them.”
Lin Junqing’s anxious heart strangely calmed down. He had never believed Xie Lin would simply wait quietly for death. He always had a premonition that Xie Lin would do something. The arrival of these accidents made him feel like it had finally happened.
Lin Junqing did not eat the fugu on the table. When Xie Lin arrived, he asked, “What do you want to do? Do you want me to eat this plate of fugu?”
Xie Lin smiled and shook his head. He coughed from sheer excitement, his pale face suddenly flushing with color. After taking a few deep breaths to calm himself, he spoke in a hoarse, grating voice.
“It took you four days to realize I was behind this. Why is your vigilance so weak? Or do you believe that it is impossible for me to harm you?”
Lin Junqing was not angry. Why be angry with a madman? Seeing that Lin Junqing remained silent, Xie Lin asked deliberately, “Are you angry, or are you disappointed? Even though I say I like you, my actions are hurting you. You surely do not want to deal with me anymore, right?”
For a moment, Lin Junqing felt the light in Xie Lin’s eyes vanish. Lin Junqing picked up his chopsticks, grabbed a piece of pufferfish, and ate it expressionlessly. He smiled after seeing the shock on Xie Lin’s face.
“It is not my first day knowing you are a madman.”
Seeing that Lin Junqing had actually eaten the pufferfish, Xie Lin flew into a rage, sweeping the food and dishes onto the floor. He roared at Lin Junqing, “I am a madman, but are you one too? You knew the fugu was poisonous; why did you eat it?”
Lin Junqing deliberately spread his hands and asked calmly, “Did you not want me to eat it? I ate it as you wished; why are you angry? You should be happy.”
Being a madman felt wonderful; you could ignore everything and do exactly as you pleased. The system sighed secretly; the host seemed to have become twisted in his silence. Xie Lin’s hands trembled as he called the doctor, ordering them to take Lin Junqing away to have his stomach pumped. After suffering a brutal ordeal, Lin Junqing survived.
Xie Lin fell silent. Every time Lin Junqing went out for a walk, he never encountered another venomous snake. From that day on, Xie Lin lived in pain and conflict. He was terrified of Lin Junqing being harmed, yet he wanted Lin Junqing to join him in eternal sleep.
