- Chapter 8 - Do You Want to Bite Me?
After leaving the classroom and heading to the cafeteria, Lin Yan followed behind Ning Youji. The youth in front was tall and lean, wearing a crisp white shirt and black school trousers. He radiated a clean, sharp aura. Even standing still without saying a word, he possessed a presence that made it impossible for people not to steal a few extra glances.
“Why did you speak up for me?” Lin Yan asked directly, cutting straight to the question in his heart.
“I found them noisy.” Ning Youji slowed his pace. Thinking of Lin Yan’s recent grades, his lips curled into a slight arc, and his voice sounded a bit raspy. “Besides, you are technically my student. I cannot exactly let people bully you.”
Lin Yan: “…” Student, my ass!
It was lunchtime, and the cafeteria was a sea of people. As Lin Yan and Ning Youji sat together, the students’ fervent gazes fell upon them. Toward the end of the meal, the phone in Lin Yan’s pocket suddenly vibrated. It was a forum link from Jiang Xue. Lin Yan glanced at the youth across from him and quickly tapped it open.
The moment they had left the classroom, the voting thread had exploded. The news of him passing every subject had already spread across the school.
- [OMG! Boss Lin actually passed everything! My god, what kind of learning ability is this? What happened to being last in the grade?]
- [Are we witnessing the rise of a dark horse?]
- [Is this even a normal Omega? This completely overturns my view of Omegas!]
- [Don’t you guys think the school bully’s scores are fishy?]
- [Hahaha, I suggest the person above check the new thread next door. You won’t have those doubts anymore.]
- [With God Ning appearing, forget passing. I would even believe it if the bully broke into the top ten right now!]
A new thread was pinned to the homepage: [The Secret Relationship Between the Genius and the Bully]
Lin Yan’s eyelid jumped at the title, and he could not resist clicking in. The original poster had shared a photo of Ning Youji in the classroom. In the photo, Ning Youji was looking at him with a gaze that was focused and tender, looking entirely like a protective guardian.
- [!!! Please tell me they are in an “loving and being loved” relationship!]
- [As expected of No. 1 High’s most Alpha guy, he is a legendary differentiation catalyst!]
- [Hahaha, who photoshopped this? It looks so fake. Our genius is only teaching the bully to fulfill the teacher’s task.]
As he scrolled through the comments, Lin Yan’s mood soured. Clearly, he was supposed to be the protagonist today, but thanks to Ning Youji, he had been turned into a supporting character. He decided to type a few anonymous lines to slander Ning Youji and regain some sense of existence.
“Ning Youji is trash, a wolf in sheep’s clothing who takes verbal advantage of others.”
Just as he finished typing, a shadow loomed over him. Being so close, Lin Yan could even smell the other’s pheromones, a light, refreshing scent of sandalwood. Realizing the youth above was watching him, Lin Yan’s fingers twitched. His breath hitched, and his Adam’s apple bobbed.
Just as he was about to say something, he clearly heard a soft chuckle escape the throat of the boy above him.
“So, I am a wolf in sheep’s clothing.” The voice above dropped an octave, sounding even raspier. “What kind of relationship do you think we should have?”
Lin Yan felt a chill at his gland. He tilted his neck and forced a flattering smile. “It is the input method’s fault. I originally wanted to type that Ning Youji is handsome and smart, a great person who sacrifices himself for his desk mate.”
Ning Youji looked down, seeing the back of Lin Yan’s neck clearly. He lowered his body and whispered into Lin Yan’s ear, “There is a lot more your desk mate can help you with.”
Lin Yan’s eyelashes trembled. He realized there was a double meaning in Ning Youji’s words. Things had been so peaceful lately that he had almost forgotten about their pheromone compatibility.
On Monday, the intelligence test was held at various testing sites assigned by the school. On his way back, Lin Yan mentally planned to sprint through his studies over the weekend.
During dinner, Wen Jing asked about the school tests. “I heard from your teacher that you did quite well this time?”
Lin Yan looked up at Wen Jing. Just like in his previous life, she was still beautiful, forever the most beautiful woman in his heart. “Yes, I passed everything,” Lin Yan said with total sincerity. “Mom, I am going to study hard from now on.”
Wen Jing froze. She clearly had not expected him to say such a thing. In the past, whenever she mentioned grades, Lin Yan would look impatient. It seemed time really changed people; in the blink of an eye, her son was growing up.
“Don’t push yourself too hard. Just do your best,” Wen Jing said with a gentle smile. “I only want you to have a better future and a smoother path.”
Hearing the same words from his previous life, Lin Yan’s eyes grew red. He lowered his head and gave a muffled “Mm.” Lin Zhi bumped her small head against Lin Yan’s and said sweetly, “Brother is the best!”
Lin Yan touched her small head and suddenly smiled. “Of course your brother is the best. I have to protect our family’s little princess in the future. How could I not be amazing?”
The meal ended amidst laughter and chatter. For the next two days, Lin Yan locked himself in his room to study. He rubbed his aching wrist and looked at the Chinese paper he had filled to the brim, a sense of pride swelling in his chest.
[Ding! Completed five basic Chinese papers today. Congratulations on earning 10 free points.]
[Focus: 51 | Memory: 49 | Observation: 48 | Reasoning: 43 | Imagination: 47] [Study Methods: 8] [Free Points: 45 (+10)] [Total Intelligence: 282 (Intermediate)] [Brain Development: 80% (Unused)]
Under the System’s high-intensity training, Lin Yan’s foundation had improved significantly. Leaning back in his chair, he looked at the total intelligence on the screen and suddenly asked, “Is this total intelligence the same as the result of the intelligence test?”
System: “Roughly, but it is better if the host hides some of your intelligence for now.”
“You can even hide this stuff?” Lin Yan asked. It was his first time hearing of it; he had very little contact with such things in his past life.
System: “Yes. Progressing too fast will attract unwanted attention and trouble. I will help the host control the result to around 230.”
On the day of the intelligence test, Lin Yan was assigned to the last testing point. Only he and Ning Youji from No. 1 High were sent there. In front of the testing building, groups of Omegas and Betas were looking toward one spot and discussing something. When Lin Yan saw where they were looking, his face darkened. A guy with Ning Youji’s looks was a dazzling existence wherever he went.
Several pretty Omegas were jumping with excitement. “Ah, I have fallen for him! Just looking at that face makes me want to have his children!”
Lin Yan rubbed his ears and turned to walk toward the testing building. The test was simple: a blood draw followed by entering the Broadwave Brain scanner. By the time he walked out with his “230” score sheet, the hallway was empty. He looked at the sheet in his hand. He remembered his highest score in his previous life was 79; now it had tripled.
Checking the time, Lin Yan figured the school bus had already left. Looking around, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure across the street. Just as he was about to call out, he saw several people following Ning Youji. Quickly, they disappeared into a nearby alley.
As a former school bully, Lin Yan had experienced this too many times. Ning Youji being surrounded was a clear sign of trouble. He hesitated for a second and then followed.
As he reached the alley entrance, several Alpha pheromones were clashing in the air, seemingly tearing at each other. One of the scents was familiar; it was Ning Youji’s sandalwood, much wilder than when they were together. Gradually, all other pheromones were suppressed by Ning Youji’s power.
Lin Yan and Ning Youji were compatible, but under such powerful suppression, his legs felt incredibly weak. He gritted his teeth and forced himself deeper into the alley. Soon, he saw the boy standing at the end.
Ning Youji was wearing a black T-shirt and casual pants. His frame had the lean thinness unique to youths, and he was radiating a powerful aura. The group that had surrounded him were all clutching their heads in pain, rolling on the ground and whimpering. Ning Youji’s body was being overextended; his pheromones were surging out uncontrollably, while his intelligence was also stirring violently within him.
“Ning Youji.”
Ning Youji’s brain was gripped by a splitting pain. In his haze, he heard someone calling his name. He turned his head, his dark eyes devoid of any warmth. He stared straight at the person walking in against the light. Once he recognized him, a flicker of light appeared in his dark eyes, and he slowly tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“Come over here.” His voice was low and raspy, as if he were suppressing something.
Lin Yan’s legs were trembling. He looked at Ning Youji hesitantly but eventually took a few steps forward. The closer he got, the thicker the Alpha’s aura became, drawing out Lin Yan’s own Omega pheromones.
Lin Yan approached and frowned. “How did you manage to offend…”
Before he could finish, his wrist was seized. He was yanked forward, falling directly into Ning Youji’s arms. Lin Yan froze for half a second before pushing back hard. “Let go! If you don’t let go, I’ll—”
“Can you let me hold you for a while?” Ning Youji’s voice was hoarse. The pheromones in his body were completely out of control. He knew his illness had flared up.
Lin Yan struggled a few times, but realizing something was truly wrong, he stopped moving. After a while, the pheromones from Ning Youji intensified, nearly reaching a full explosion. The people on the ground had already fainted from the pain.
Lin Yan’s legs were so weak that if he were not being held, he would have collapsed. “What exactly is wrong with you?” Lin Yan was truly exhausted, so he eventually sat on the ground with Ning Youji.
His voice was weak and his breathing uneven. “Ning Youji, pull back your pheromones. I can barely breathe.”
Ning Youji did not answer. Instead, he held him tighter. He wanted to pull them back, but he could not. His rapid, hot breath brushed against Lin Yan’s neck. Lin Yan’s waist and neck had always been his sensitive spots; being touched like this felt like being burned.
Lin Yan gave him a sharp push. Ning Youji caught his wrist and leaned into his ear. His voice was extremely low, almost a warning. “Don’t move. If you move again, I can’t guarantee what I’ll do to you.”
Lin Yan’s spine stiffened. He could feel Ning Youji was exercising extreme restraint. With his experience as a former Alpha, Lin Yan finally realized Ning Youji was likely going through a susceptibility period. But the pheromones were surging out recklessly; at this rate, Ning Youji would collapse from exhaustion first.
Lin Yan sighed weakly, “You are terrifying. Who could handle pheromones like this?”
Ning Youji’s grip on his wrist tightened. As their heat transferred between them, Lin Yan discovered Ning Youji’s condition was truly grim. The other’s hot lips brushed against Lin Yan’s neck, his rapid breath teasing Lin Yan’s skin.
Lin Yan shrank back; he was at his limit. Ning Youji’s voice was raspy. “Can you release a bit of your pheromones?” His tone was much gentler than usual, sounding more like a child asking for candy.
Lin Yan was startled. He had only just differentiated and had no idea how to release his pheromones on command. Suddenly, the memory of Ning Youji saving his sister in his previous life flashed through his mind. Lin Yan realized that besides pheromone soothing, there was one other way.
He hesitated for half a second, then gritted his teeth. “Ning Youji, do you want to bite me?”
