The Strongest Alpha is Overwhelmingly Omega After Rebirth - Chapter 16
The scent of Alpha pheromones instantly enveloped Lin Yan’s nose, feeling as if he had finally inhaled fresh air after being on the verge of death. He pressed forward, sinking entirely into Ning Youji’s embrace. Ning Youji held the burning figure in his arms. He could sense the floral Omega fragrance radiating through the air, even more potent than it had been during the initial heat, as if it were evolving step by step.
Laughter and playful shouting drifted in from outside the dormitory, signaling that the third period of evening self-study had ended. Inside the room, the floral scent grew denser, spreading aggressively through the small space. Ning Youji called his name.
Hearing the Alpha speak, Lin Yan stiffened and did not dare move. Because he could feel the Alpha’s pheromones—as if he had received some sort of unspoken permission—he buried his head deeper into the Alpha’s chest.
The voices outside grew louder. A few Alpha students were talking particularly loudly; they were likely students who lived on the floor above Ning Youji.
“Did the Top Scholar skip the tutoring session at the old playground today? His dormitory lights are actually on!”
“Do you smell something strange? It is like Omega pheromones.”
“There is something wrong with your nose. How could there be an Omega in Sector A? I think you have been single for so long that you are having manual hallucinations, haha!”
The group laughed and headed upstairs. Ning Youji held Lin Yan with one arm while he pulled back the covers and tucked him into bed. His voice was raspier than before. “Do not move. I am going to turn off the lights.”
Lin Yan had already lost consciousness. He was acting entirely on instinct, desperate for the Alpha to provide soothing pheromones. As soon as Ning Youji loosened his grip, Lin Yan felt a wave of unbearable pain as if his entire body were full of holes. After quickly turning off the lights, Ning Youji returned to the bed. Before he could even lie down, a warm figure tangled itself around him.
Having just been marked, this level of dependence easily stirred an Alpha’s possessiveness. Ning Youji closed his eyes tightly, tempted to cast aside his logic, but ultimately his reason triumphed over his Alpha instincts. He released a massive amount of pheromones to comfort the person in his arms, giving Lin Yan as much as he required.
A month ago, Lin Yan’s pheromones had not been particularly fragrant; they were light and faint. For a top-tier Alpha like Ning Youji, they were not even enough to satisfy half of his desire. However, the scent currently floating in the air caused him to fall into deep thought.
During two hours of continuous soothing, the pain in Lin Yan’s body gradually subsided. His eyes closed slowly, and his breathing became even. In the darkness, Ning Youji looked down. The faint light from the balcony filtered into the room. His eyes were deep and dark—darker than the night outside—reflecting no light at all. He stared at Lin Yan for a long time before finally lying down beside him.
In November, the sun rose late. A sliver of light eventually appeared outside the dormitory window. Lin Yan had not slept well and felt sore and weak all over. He fluttered his eyelids and felt as though his body were being held in a warm embrace.
Before he could open his eyes, a pair of warm hands rubbed his head. The hand moved down through his hair and squeezed the back of his neck. A magnetic voice vibrated near his ear.
“Do not move.”
Lin Yan’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. His head was foggy, but he felt the voice was very familiar. When he looked up, he saw a familiar face right in front of him.
His brain stalled. As he stared at that face, his lost memories slowly returned. Every scene from the previous night replayed in his mind: from the bathroom to the single bed, his own unreasonable behavior, and finally, being temporarily marked. Then, the memory of his own cat-like whimper from the night before flashed through his mind. His breath hitched, heat rushed to his cheeks, and his heart rate accelerated.
And then? He did not seem to remember what happened next. Had he passed out?
The phone on the desk suddenly vibrated. The eyelashes of the boy holding him flickered. The moment Ning Youji opened his eyes, the two of them locked gazes. Lin Yan felt guilty and looked away first before getting out of bed. However, his legs were incredibly weak. He fell back onto the bed and into a warm embrace.
“You set me up last night, and now you are doing it again today?” Ning Youji held him by the waist and looked at him lazily.
Lin Yan’s body tensed instantly. The subtext of those words was that Ning Youji was going to start settling the score for last night. It was true that Lin Yan had clung to him, but still…
Lin Yan climbed out of his arms and looked down at him, putting on the full persona of a heartless man. “What do you mean I set you up? You were the one who chose to bite me yesterday. I did not beg you.”
As soon as he said it, Lin Yan felt like he sounded like a total jerk. Ning Youji stared intensely at Lin Yan’s facial expression and the emotions in his eyes.
“What are you looking at!” Lin Yan felt flustered under his gaze, wondering if he had done something unspeakable to the boy last night. This suspicion made him shiver. Did I really do something indecent to him?!
All the answers Ning Youji wanted were visible in Lin Yan’s eyes. He sighed silently and got out of bed. “Your phone is ringing.”
The Alpha approached suddenly, and his clean scent washed over Lin Yan. Lin Yan trembled and held his breath. That feeling of desire from the night before was returning.
While Ning Youji went to the bathroom, Lin Yan stood there, his mind wandering. It was not until the phone rang for the third time that he remembered to answer it.
“Hello!” Perhaps because he had been so rowdy the night before, his voice was dry and hoarse, carrying an unintended authority. “If there is something to say, say it!”
Jiang Xue paused on the other end before speaking. “Brother Lin, where did you go? Why are you not in the dorm? You are not even…” He looked at the two empty seats at the back of the class. He felt the grievance of a neglected spouse. “Now, wherever you go, you do not take me with you anymore.”
Li Xingming, who had just walked in, realized who he was calling and snatched the phone away. “Ah, you two take your time coming to class. The first period today has been changed to self-study. That is all for now, bye Brother Lin!”
“What are you doing!” Jiang Xue’s grievance intensified after his phone was snatched.
“Brother Lin is over at Brother Ning’s place, do you not understand!” Li Xingming looked at him as if he were an idiot.
When Jiang Xue heard that his Big Brother was with Brother Ning, he realized the situation, and his grievance vanished instantly. “My brother did not come back to the dorm last night.”
Li Xingming chimed in with uncontrollable excitement. “I saw your Big Brother in Brother Ning’s dorm yesterday.”
Jiang Xue’s voice trembled as he looked at his seatmate. “Then…”
Li Xingming gave him a look that said, ‘You know.’ Jiang Xue nodded and returned a look that said, ‘I know.’
Back in the dormitory, silence fell. Lin Yan subtly sensed that Ning Youji was in a bad mood. As Ning Youji was about to head out, Lin Yan called out to him.
“Ning Youji.”
Ning Youji turned around and lifted his eyelids, his gaze lingering briefly on Lin Yan’s face. Lin Yan raised an eyebrow at his cold shoulder. He thought to himself that he was the one who had been bitten, so why did the other guy look so aggrieved?
Lin Yan grew emboldened and pointed to the back of his neck. “Are you just going to ignore this after biting me?” The more he thought about it, the more he felt he was in the right. He raised his voice. “Look at you acting like a jerk, biting me and then throwing me away without taking responsibility. You expect me to go to class with teeth marks?”
Ning Youji glanced at him indifferently. His gaze followed Lin Yan’s finger to where the swelling had subsided, revealing a clear set of teeth marks. Going to class like that would actually be quite nice, he thought.
“And then?” Ning Youji spoke slowly, playing the role of the heartless man perfectly. “What do you want to do about it?”
Lin Yan felt a strange illusion that he was the one being the jerk instead. He decided to have a proper talk. “What are you actually angry about? You have been acting cold since we woke up. You only bit me once; is it really that upsetting for you?”
Ning Youji raised an eyebrow. Lin Yan was determined to clear things up. “Yes, I said before that I would not need you during my heat, and I broke my word yesterday. But you were the one who wanted to bite me; you cannot blame me for that. Besides, I helped you during your rut last time.” He paused, remembering the hospital visit where Ning Youji had also helped him. His confidence wavered, and his voice dropped. “We are just helping each other. It is just a bite; it is not a big deal.”
Ning Youji felt a spark of anger at Lin Yan’s indifferent attitude. He realized Lin Yan had no awareness of what it meant for an Omega to offer their gland to an Alpha. He felt a sense of helplessness. The way Lin Yan had sought comfort for two hours, called his name, and rubbed against him last night had clearly been pure Omega instinct.
He sighed. “Come here.”
“Come here for what?” Lin Yan said, but his body obeyed, and he walked over.
Ning Youji helped him pull the zipper of his school uniform to the very top and rubbed his hair. “Let us go to your dorm so I can help you apply a patch over those teeth marks.” He emphasized the words ‘teeth marks’ heavily.
Lin Yan had not finished the scent-blocking patches he bought at the pharmacy last time. He usually found them troublesome and preferred the blocking spray. With his back to Ning Youji, Lin Yan’s neck appeared as fair as jade, though the marks on the gland were quite noticeable.
Looking at the deep marks on the Omega’s gland which were still tainted with his scent, Ning Youji’s eyes flickered. He asked in a low voice, “Does it hurt?”
Lin Yan answered honestly, “It is fine.” Compared to an injection, it did not hurt much.
Ning Youji watched as his handiwork from the previous night was covered up. He felt a sense of dissatisfaction and pressed down firmly on the scent-blocking patch.
Lin Yan remained silent.
