- The Strongest Alpha is Overwhelmingly Omega After Rebirth
- Chapter 17 - Blocking the Scent
When the two arrived at the classroom, the first period had already ended.
Lin Yan entered holding two cups of milk tea and naturally placed one on the desk of the study representative in the front row.
Qiao Xi looked up, her eyes meeting Lin Yan’s light brown gaze. His voice was low, yet it carried clearly through the noisy classroom. “The milk tea I promised you.”
Qiao Xi quickly lowered her head and whispered, “Thank you.”
By the time she looked up again, he had already returned to his seat in the back. She did not know if he had heard her. She gripped the cup with both hands; it was warm, a heat that seemed to reach her very heart.
Back at his desk, Lin Yan waved his own milk tea in front of Ning Youji. He took a deliberate sip, wearing a smug, irritating expression. “Brother Ning, the milk tea you bought is so delicious. It is the best I have ever had.”
Ning Youji watched him, thinking how childish he was. Despite himself, his eyes curved into a faint smile. Fifteen minutes ago, because of a frustrated shove, a certain Omega had turned around and successfully extorted two cups of milk tea from him.
Time flew during study hours. Just as the bell rang for the fourth period, the system, which had been missing for a day and a night, finally returned from its “business trip.”
The teacher had not even left the podium when Lin Yan, unable to wait any longer, patted Jiang Xue’s shoulder. “Go to the cafeteria with Ning Youji and the others later,” he whispered. “I have an upset stomach, so help me line up for food.”
Jiang Xue nodded as Lin Yan handed his meal card to Ning Youji. The movement was so natural it looked like a husband handing over his paycheck to his wife.
Lin Yan ducked into the restroom, puffing out his cheeks in anger as he interrogated the system in his mind.
“System Teacher, how could you just leave me like that!” Lin Yan’s entire body still ached. Thinking of the sudden heat last night, he could not help but complain. “What ‘wildest Omega’? Forget it. I almost died of pain yesterday.”
The system scanned him and spoke with excitement. “Do not be skeptical. You really will become the wildest Omega. Your pheromone index has doubled.” It paused to build suspense. “In the future, your Omega index might even surpass the top tier. You will be the King of Omegas—completely explosive!”
“Keep dreaming,” Lin Yan thought. He was only half-convinced by the system’s boasting; he felt it was hiding something.
The system saw the back of Lin Yan’s neck and had already guessed most of what had happened yesterday. Feeling quite pleased, it offered some “friendly” guidance. “However, if the host wants to surpass the top tier, there is a prerequisite.”
Lin Yan raised an eyebrow. He knew there was a catch.
“Every time you go through a heat, you need a top-tier Alpha to bite you,” the system explained. “And it must be the same person. The person you are locked with: Ning Youji.”
Lin Yan: “…”
As expected.
“Be honest,” Lin Yan said, crossing his arms, his light eyes filled with suspicion. “Are you a spy sent by Ning Youji?”
The system went silent. Eventually, it showed him a comparison of his data before and after the bite. Only then did Lin Yan believe it.
If this was the case, Ning Youji could bite him to control his illness, and Lin Yan could let Ning Youji bite him during heat to suppress the pain and increase his “wildest Omega” index. It was killing three birds with one stone!
Walking into the cafeteria, he found the group at their usual table and naturally sat down beside Ning Youji. Lin Yan took a few bites, glancing at Ning Youji every so often with a grin that was becoming increasingly strange.
Ning Youji: “…”
Unable to withstand that intense gaze, Ning Youji finished his meal and pulled Lin Yan straight to the back door of the cafeteria. Jiang Xue and Li Xingming watched them go, their minds filled with images of overbearing presidents and dramatic wall-slams.
“How long do you plan to keep staring?” Ning Youji asked.
Lin Yan looked at the youth’s black hair and dark eyes. Even without a smile, he was incredibly handsome. Standing so close, he could smell the other’s crisp, clean scent; the pheromones were a perfect match for his own.
“I will just look for you during my future heats,” Lin Yan said, seeing nothing wrong with his words. “And you can look for me during your ruts.”
Ning Youji: “…”
“Do you know what you are saying?” Ning Youji’s narrow eyes darkened, his expression unreadable.
Lin Yan saw his own reflection clearly in those ink-black eyes. His heart skipped a beat. Under the pressure of the youth’s gaze, Lin Yan nodded. “I know about your illness. You need me.”
Ning Youji paused for a moment. Then, his smile widened. He took a step forward, lowering his head to look down at him. “Lin Yan, are you challenging my limits?”
Lin Yan instinctively took a step back. He saw the suppressed danger in Ning Youji’s eyes, and his heart thundered. Ning Youji took another step forward, pinning him against the wall with no room to retreat.
“Ning Youji,” Lin Yan blurted out. “Your primary doctor told me about your illness.”
The desire for survival in that sentence was so obvious it was clear he was genuinely startled. Ning Youji raised his hand, and Lin Yan instinctively shielded his face.
Instead, he felt someone ruffle his hair before firmly grasping the back of his neck. Ning Youji leaned into his ear. “Do you really want me to bite you that much?”
His voice was low, carrying a trace of a smile like a breeze brushing against his ear, yet it made Lin Yan shiver.
Lin Yan straightened his back and looked up. He did not see any annoyance in the other’s eyes, so his courage returned. “Yes. I will let you bite me from now on.”
Hearing this, Ning Youji’s hand on the back of Lin Yan’s neck tightened. His eyelids lowered, like a leopard watching a rabbit. The aura of this underage Alpha was no weaker than that of an adult; his eyes were dark and steady.
The developing Omega remained blissfully ignorant, having no idea what kind of terrifying Alpha he would face in the future.
“Fine,” Ning Youji agreed softly. “I will help you through your heats from now on.”
Lin Yan nodded, satisfied. “And I will help you through your ruts and illness.”
The first period in the afternoon was physical education. Feeling unwell, Lin Yan returned to the classroom after the assembly. Just as he sat down, the study representative, Qiao Xi, also entered.
“Rep, are you feeling unwell too?” Lin Yan asked.
The curtains were drawn, and only the back lights were on, leaving the room quite dim. Qiao Xi walked to Lin Yan’s desk, her face red, and asked in a low voice, “Can I have a moment of your time?”
She had only dared to follow him because she saw him return to the classroom alone. Lin Yan was confused as to why she wanted to talk, but he agreed. Fearing other students might walk in, Qiao Xi led him to the end of the corridor.
The clear morning sky had turned to a drizzling afternoon. Students from Class 7 began returning to the classroom. Ning Youji noticed the empty seat by the window, and his eyes darkened.
As he sat down, a few boys entered through the back door, talking quietly.
“Did you see the delinquent and the study representative go out together?” “Is she finally making a move? I noticed she liked him a long time ago.” “She sits right in front of me. I catch her staring at him all the time.” “She is pretty, but two Omegas are destined to have no future together.” “Maybe he just likes the thrill!”
Ning Youji’s expression sharpened. He stood up and walked out of the classroom.
At the end of the corridor, the two stood face to face. Qiao Xi spoke about how Lin Yan had unintentionally saved her during their first year. After she finished, Lin Yan did not know what to say; his memories of his past life were blurry and distant.
Qiao Xi looked up at him, her thick lashes trembling. Her cheeks were flushed, and she carried the sweet, milky scent of an Omega, like pulled marshmallow in early spring. “Thank you.” She never thought she would finally say those words to him.
She gathered her courage to look him in the eyes. His gaze was clear and transparent. Feeling embarrassed, Lin Yan scratched his head. “So that happened? I probably just thought that guy was too noisy.”
Qiao Xi’s gaze was gentle, and her voice was melodious. “Also… there is something else I want to tell you.”
“Sure, go ahead,” Lin Yan waited.
Just as the girl was about to say “I like you,” she met a pair of dark eyes and the words choked in her throat. She looked at the tall youth walking toward them, feeling the instinctive pressure of an Alpha.
Lin Yan sensed something was wrong and turned to see Ning Youji approaching with steady steps.
“Why are you here?” Lin Yan was surprised. “Is class over already?”
Ning Youji’s gaze swept over the girl before settling on Lin Yan, staring at his face. “It is raining outside.”
“Oh.” Lin Yan raised an eyebrow. “If it is raining, why are you out here instead of in the classroom?”
Ning Youji leaned in, looking directly into Lin Yan’s eyes. He began to unzip his school jacket and said softly, “I just realized we are wearing each other’s uniforms.”
The words were provocative, carried with an indescribable implication.
Lin Yan: “…”
Lin Yan watched him in a daze, clicking his tongue inwardly before reaching out to stop him from taking off the jacket.
“You just realized? Your memory is truly amazing,” Lin Yan muttered, speechless. “We have been wearing them all day; it does not matter if we wait a bit longer.”
Besides, he had a scent-blocking patch on his neck. If he took off the jacket, he would be exposed. Lin Yan looked at the person in front of him, feeling as though the “swapping uniforms” bombshell was not enough, so he decided to double down.
The “domineering” Omega pulled at the white shirt beneath his jacket, which carried a soft, woody scent. “It is just a jacket. Even my shirt underneath is yours. Do you want me to take that off and give it to you too?”
Ning Youji met his eyes and smiled, a trace of Alpha tenderness appearing in his expression. He reached out to straighten Lin Yan’s uniform. His palms were clean and warm. As he pulled the zipper, his fingers accidentally brushed Lin Yan’s collarbone. The warm sensation spread from the bone into his veins, making Lin Yan shiver.
“No need to take it off,” Ning Youji said, hiding his smile as he glanced at Qiao Xi.
With that one careless glance, Qiao Xi seemed to understand everything. Lin Yan carried an Alpha’s bite mark; he had instinctive needs, and he was defenseless against the Alpha’s actions.
Lin Yan swatted Ning Youji’s hand away, his ears turning pink. Remembering something, he turned to Qiao Xi. “Right, what were you going to say?”
Qiao Xi stared at them, her face filled with disbelief. She was not shocked by the swapped clothes, but by Ning Youji’s attitude toward Lin Yan and the subtle declaration of ownership. There were rumors on the school forum, but few believed them—including her.
“Study Rep?” Lin Yan called again.
Qiao Xi snapped out of it and looked down. “…It is nothing.”
“Oh,” Lin Yan said. “If it is nothing, we will head back to the classroom first.”
As Ning Youji turned to leave, his dark eyes swept over her again. The sharp curve of his eyes held a terrifying Alpha deterrent. Qiao Xi shuddered, feeling for a moment as if her throat were being gripped. It was a final warning.
Ning Youji turned back, the sharpness in his eyes vanishing. “Let’s go.”
As they walked, Lin Yan raised his sleeve and sniffed. His breath was filled with the Alpha’s pheromones. He looked up and praised, “Your clothes smell really good.”
Looking at him, Ning Youji remembered finding out they had swapped uniforms when he helped him with his zipper earlier that morning. Having just finished a heat and a marking, an Alpha’s possessiveness is at its peak. He did not want anyone else to smell his pheromones, so he used his personal items to create a barrier.
Watching Lin Yan wearing his oversized uniform, the corners of Ning Youji’s eyes crinkled. “Then do you want to wear it for two more days?”
