- Chapter 10 - Ultra-Thin 0.01
As October arrived, the weather gradually turned cooler. The indoor temperature remained high, and the mixed scents lingering in the room felt exceptionally reassuring. Ning Youji closed his eyes. Before long, the breathing of the two people in the room fell into an eerie, synchronized rhythm.
It was that familiar dream again.
The sky began to rain. A thin figure stood ahead, slowly turning around in the darkness. Backlit by the night, Ning Youji could not see the person’s face. The figure held a bouquet of flowers; he could not smell their scent or distinguish their shape, yet Ning Youji knew they were in full bloom.
He called out, “Who are you?”
He had asked this question countless times, yet the youth remained silent, standing still. Every time he had this dream, Ning Youji’s heart would ache with a suffocating sensation that swept through his entire body.
“Why do you appear in my dreams?”
He chased after the figure, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not catch up. There was a deep-seated longing in his subconscious to know who the person was. He chased for a very long time until he was exhausted. The youth vanished at the end of the path, and the bouquet fell to the ground. He walked over to pick it up, seeing a cluster of transparent white flowers.
A voice struck Ning Youji’s ear. It was the youth’s voice, but he could not hear the words clearly. Ning Youji looked down to find that the white flowers in his hand had become withered and ugly, emitting the smell of mold.
Ning Youji’s eyelashes trembled, and he snapped his eyes open. He stared at the white ceiling with a dark expression, his eyes as deep and dangerous as a black hole. He instinctively looked down, seeking comfort, but his arms were already empty. Suddenly, a dry sense of suffocation and an inexplicable irritability spread through his heart.
Just as he was about to roll out of bed, the bathroom door opened. Lin Yan emerged with wet hair dripping onto his forehead. Seeing Ning Youji awake, he paused and said hesitantly, “You’re awake?”
“By the way, I called the school earlier. Someone already requested a leave of absence for you.” Lin Yan brushed the stray hairs back, revealing his handsome features. He tried his best to act natural. “Since you’re awake, I’ll be going now.”
Ning Youji did not speak; he simply stared straight at him. Lin Yan met his gaze for a few seconds, his heart skipping several beats. Was he not being natural enough?
When he had woken up and seen Ning Youji so close, he had nearly been scared out of his wits. He had scrambled off the bed, vaguely recalling the events of the previous night. His face burned with shame as if it were on fire, making him feel too embarrassed to face anyone. He had taken a shower to compose himself, thinking he would sneak away while Ning Youji was still asleep. He planned to simply deny everything tomorrow.
However, fate had other plans.
Lin Yan felt his scalp tingle under Ning Youji’s gaze. He clicked his tongue and said, “It’s no use looking at me. I don’t remember anything from yesterday.” He was determined to stick to his story; it was useless even if Ning Youji tried to hold him responsible.
Ning Youji still said nothing. He climbed out of bed slowly and walked toward Lin Yan step by step. His eyes never left Lin Yan for a single second.
Lin Yan instinctively took a step back. Ning Youji stopped in front of him, his long eyes scrutinizing him. “Wait for me to wash up. We’ll go to school together.”
His low voice whispered near Lin Yan’s ear, sending him into a panic. He submissively murmured a response. By the time Lin Yan realized how obedient he was acting, Ning Youji had already entered the bathroom. Lin Yan gritted his teeth, feeling frustrated by the Omega’s instinctive urge to comply with an Alpha.
The heat in the bathroom had not dissipated yet. The small space still carried the faint, unique fragrance of an Omega. Compared to a month ago, the scent had become even more pleasant. Ning Youji inhaled the clear, sweet aroma as he stood before the shower. He turned on the water and closed his eyes.
Scenes flashed through his mind like a revolving lantern: the moment Lin Yan differentiated, his focused expression while studying, and the way he had curled into his arms last night to seek out his scent. Finally, the image of the withered flowers from his dream surfaced. Ning Youji opened his eyes, his gaze dark and unreadable.
Before leaving the hospital, Ning Youji greeted the old doctor and picked up a suppressant for Lin Yan. Lin Yan stared at the suppressant in his hand, his ears turning red as he remembered how he had clung to Ning Youji the night before.
“Your heat cycle isn’t over yet. Use this before going to school,” Ning Youji said. His gaze landed on the back of Lin Yan’s neck, where the pale skin of an Omega was becoming increasingly apparent.
Lin Yan, lacking the self-awareness of an Omega, replied carelessly, “I think I’m fine. I don’t need to use it. On the other hand, the smell on you is quite strong. Is it okay for you to go to school like that?” He added teasingly, “Be careful, or someone might report you for sexual harassment.”
Ning Youji pulled out another syringe filled with a white liquid. This was his exclusive Alpha blocker, with ten times the defense of a standard one. Usually, no one at school could smell his pheromones unless he intentionally released them. He injected himself in the forearm without expression. Lin Yan arched an eyebrow. Even though it was a simple injection, he somehow felt a sense of provocation in the action.
Fine, he thought. It’s just a shot. As a legendary school bully, why would I be afraid?
In a restroom stall at the hospital.
“Be gentle! Why does this shot hurt more than an Alpha blocker?” Lin Yan mumbled incoherently. Even though he was terrified, he insisted on watching Ning Youji administer the injection.
Ning Youji turned and warned him, “Be quiet. If my hand shakes and the needle breaks, don’t blame me.”
Lin Yan went silent immediately. Once the injection was finished, they left the hospital. Lin Yan followed behind Ning Youji, looking quite well-behaved. Internally, he was lamenting the loss of his reputation. A legendary school bully who was afraid of needles? His prestige was ruined.
After a moment of self-deprecation, he began to comfort himself. Everyone has something they are afraid of. Besides, he wasn’t that afraid, just a little bit. It was mostly because of a childhood trauma when a novice nurse had to poke him multiple times to find a vein.
Determined to regain his dignity, he stepped up to walk beside Ning Youji. He cleared his throat and said, “By the way, it’s not that I’m afraid of shots. I’ve been in plenty of bloody fights. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you about my glorious feats.” Seeing Ning Youji’s lack of expression, he raised his voice. “I’m really not afraid.”
Ning Youji looked at him for two seconds. “I won’t tell anyone.” He paused, a trace of a smile in his voice. “That you are afraid of shots.” He emphasized those last words clearly.
Lin Yan: “…” Damn you!
The hospital was not far from the school, so they both chose to walk. Lin Yan remained silent the whole way. They were walking close together, and Ning Youji could still smell a faint scent of magnolia.
Near the school gate, Ning Youji stopped, breaking the silence. “Lin Yan, do you have any blocker spray?”
Lin Yan stopped too. “I’ve been with you since yesterday. Do you think I have any? If I did, would I have slept in the same bed as you?” He froze, realizing he had just indirectly admitted to remembering last night.
Ning Youji felt like laughing at his shifting expressions.
“What do you need that for?” Lin Yan asked, quickly changing the subject to hide his guilt. “Didn’t we both just use suppressants?” He leaned in to sniff Ning Youji. “The smell on you is gone. Besides, even if I had some, it wouldn’t be suitable for you.”
Ning Youji remembered there was a pharmacy across from the school. “Will you come with me to buy some, or wait here?”
“Buy what?” Lin Yan was confused.
They ended up in the pharmacy. “I’m telling you, there’s no smell on you,” Lin Yan insisted, thinking he was being fussy.
Ning Youji walked straight to the pheromone section and found the Omega blocker patches and sprays on the innermost shelf. Lin Yan’s eyes widened in disbelief. He whispered, “No way. Are you really that perverted? You want to spray this stuff?” Thinking of Ning Youji’s high status among the students and teachers, he sighed for them.
A smile spread across Ning Youji’s lips as he picked a few items. “Pick a scent you like.” He held out a handful of colorful suppressant varieties. Realizing Lin Yan had misunderstood, he chuckled. “It seems there is still a scent on you.”
Lin Yan realized the items were for him. He immediately lost his energy and began browsing the shelf silently. Usually, he just used the standard school-issued blockers or whatever he could find at a small shop. This was his first time seeing such a variety. He began to feel curious and could not keep his mouth shut.
“There are so many scents for blockers. It’s just like the row of condoms over there.” He didn’t realize how inappropriate his comment was and continued to ramble. “Look, this new blocker patch even says ‘Ultra-Thin 0.01’.” He laughed. “It sounds like it’s supposed to give you more feeling or something.”
Ning Youji narrowed his eyes at Lin Yan, raising an eyebrow with a hint of amusement. “I didn’t realize you were so knowledgeable about… those things.”
Lin Yan froze as the words sank in. His ears turned red as he realized what he had just said. Suddenly, he felt Ning Youji move closer. He instinctively tried to dodge to the side, but a hand reached out behind him to block his path, while another hand pointed at the item in his grasp.
He felt Ning Youji’s breath against his ear. The voice was intentionally low, magnetic, and seductive.
“0.01. The thinnest of the thin.”
Even though he was just repeating the advertisement on the patch, Lin Yan felt like he was about to burst into flames. To make matters worse, Ning Youji chuckled behind him. “So, you like the thin type. Mint flavor.”
