Chapter 5: Pre-Exam Training
The dining hall at the National Defense Military Academy is extremely luxurious, with a total of seven floors. The first floor is simply and crudely named Mess Hall One, the second Mess Hall Two, and so on.
Jing Yu found Xiang Zhuo to be a little off today.
Normally, Xiang Zhuo’s favorite food was the roasted lamb chops from Mess Hall Six, but today he refused to go upstairs and just randomly picked a meal on the first floor.
Even more suspiciously, Xiang Zhuo didn’t even look at what he was eating, his eyes staring intently at a student diagonally across the room.
Jing Yu followed Xiang Zhuo’s gaze and was slightly astonished: “Are you interested in him?”
The student was indeed a type he had never seen before. His clothing style was very avant-garde and well-designed, yet it was precisely right—not making him seem strange or offensive. Instead, it made him look naturally suited to the clothes, highlighting his excellent taste.
Coincidentally, the boy’s friend, who looked quite boisterous, spoke to him. He slightly looked up, quietly watching the other person until the friend finished talking—it was in that instant when he looked up that Jing Yu clearly saw his face.
Taken by surprise, a pair of chopsticks slipped from Jing Yu’s hand.
Did the National Defense Military Academy admit a divine beauty like this this year?
Xiang Zhuo ate without tasting: “That is Bai Qing.”
Jing Yu’s pupils dilated: “He is Bai Qing?”
Xiang Zhuo: “The photo he uploaded to the genetic matching system belongs to his friend.”
Jing Yu’s brain was in a state of meltdown. He laboriously moved his gaze from Bai Qing’s face to Ye Sheng, and after a long while, managed to ask: “Why didn’t he upload his own photo?”
Xiang Zhuo: “I don’t know.”
Jing Yu: “True. If he had actually uploaded his own photo, no one would be able to reject him, right?”
As soon as he said that, Jing Yu seemed to realize something and looked at Xiang Zhuo: “Is your position still firm?”
Xiang Zhuo: “I wouldn’t surrender just because of a face.”
Jing Yu nodded: “Alright. Then I’m going to pursue him. You don’t have any objections, do you?”
With a snap, Xiang Zhuo broke the chopsticks in his hand.
Jing Yu raised an eyebrow.
Xiang Zhuo snorted coldly: “Shallow.
“You’d better not reveal his Omega identity. I’ll keep his secret, and he agreed to break off the engagement with me.”
“That suits me perfectly,” Jing Yu chuckled. “It’s best if everyone thinks he’s an Alpha. That way, no one will compete with me.”
Xiang Zhuo let out two contemptuous puffs of air through his nostrils.
Jing Yu secretly laughed: “If I remember correctly, your Dream Omega should look exactly like that, right?”
For the first time, Xiang Zhuo did not fiercely refute Jing Yu, simply burying his head in his food.
Irritating. This feeling is too irritating.
…
After lunch and a short break, the entire afternoon was filled with classes, the last of which was the Class Meeting.
The Class Meeting repeatedly emphasized the importance of the upcoming assessment exam, urging everyone to take it seriously. Bai Qing, in particular, was unwilling to slack off. After all classes were over, he gave Ye Sheng a quick explanation and went directly to the stadium for training.
Of the four items in the physical exam, he was best at shooting, and his worst was long-distance running. The endurance needed for long-distance running was something he couldn’t overcome, but the other two items could be improved through diligence.
He planned to use the remaining time today to practice rock climbing.
The Military Academy’s rock climbing facility was much larger, taller, and more difficult than the one used during the entrance exam.
Bai Qing didn’t mind. If the item became harder, then he just had to become stronger.
It was unfortunate that he was in a rush today and didn’t bring his specialized climbing gear, so he had to rent the stadium’s equipment.
The rented protective gear was of poor quality. If a thick-skinned Alpha used it, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but for an Omega like Bai Qing, whose physical qualities were inherently disadvantaged—
The coarse rocks rubbed against the delicate skin of Bai Qing’s palms, quickly breaking the skin. Bai Qing didn’t even frown, continuing to climb upward.
The tiny stones scraped his skin. He didn’t need to imagine what his palms would look like by the time he reached the top.
Bai Qing successfully reached the top, but the time taken was nearly half longer than his estimate. Although he managed to pass, he was still a considerable distance from achieving “Excellent.”
Bai Qing was very dissatisfied with this result.
He had chosen the optimal route, and the difficulty was moderate, yet the duration exceeded his control.
Bai Qing refused to lose. After seriously thinking about the route and adjusting his mood, he climbed again.
The second score was slightly better than the first, but still couldn’t be called excellent.
Even with such obvious improvement, he was still not satisfied.
But his hands hurt badly.
Bai Qing lowered his eyes in silence, preparing to rest. After returning to the ground, he quietly removed the gloves.
The skin on his palms was broken. Large patches of small, bloody wounds looked particularly gruesome on his fair, delicate hands.
The stadium had a public first-aid kit. He silently walked over to it and looked up, seeing Xiang Zhuo leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, watching him.
Bai Qing looked away after seeing Xiang Zhuo, calmly opened the first-aid kit, showing no intention of greeting him.
Xiang Zhuo raised an eyebrow and spoke: “Training so hard?”
Bai Qing ignored him, pulling out alcohol from the kit, about to pour it onto his hands.
Xiang Zhuo was startled: “If you pour it like that, are you trying to be tortured to death?”
Bai Qing looked up, his pair of lake-blue eyes devoid of emotion: “Disinfecting.”
Just imagining the scene made Xiang Zhuo feel like he was going to die from the pain. He raised an eyebrow: “Are you even an Omega? Don’t Omegas usually cherish their bodies? You’re quite unique.”
Fortunately, the wounds weren’t deep, just large in area. The surface skin was rubbed off, and broken capillaries made them look somewhat ghastly. Bai Qing patiently disinfected and applied medicine. It was the final step, bandaging, that he struggled with one-handed.
Xiang Zhuo showed no intention of helping, but mumbled: “You’re training all evening just for that assessment exam?”
Bai Qing gently nodded: “Yes.”
Xiang Zhuo looked at him again.
Omegas have poor physical fitness and frail bodies. The Military Academy’s rigid physical requirements are a hard-to-cross mountain for Omegas.
But there really was an Omega who crossed this mountain.
“The assessment exam isn’t important. If you score normally, it won’t affect your future.”
Bai Qing looked up at him: “Did you wait here all evening just to tell me that?”
Xiang Zhuo laughed: “Not entirely. The form is filled out. I came here to return it to you and remind you not to forget our agreement.”
He lowered his head and tapped a few times on his terminal, transferring the completed form to Bai Qing.
After the form was sent, he looked up and saw that Bai Qing was clumsily trying to tie a bow with the bandage using only one hand.
Unfortunately, the difficulty of the one-handed operation was too great, and the bow was poorly done. Bai Qing was dissatisfied.
Xiang Zhuo smirked, leaning one arm on the table: “How about we make a deal?”
Bai Qing looked up at him.
“You take responsibility for submitting this form. I’ll tie the bows on both your hands. Guaranteed perfection.”
Bai Qing, without hesitation, presented both hands to Xiang Zhuo.
“You don’t need to worry about this. Our photos will never appear on the same marriage certificate, and the submission of this form is the prerequisite for everything.”
Only then was Xiang Zhuo satisfied. He reached out and tied beautiful, delicate bows on Bai Qing’s two hands, which were wrapped up like zongzi (sticky rice dumplings).
“Consider this my act of charity today.”
The bows Xiang Zhuo tied were indeed beautiful.
Bai Qing blinked twice, examining them carefully, and quietly said, “Thank you.”
Xiang Zhuo quietly watched Bai Qing. In his eyes, Bai Qing’s pupils were slightly dilated. His silver-white eyelashes lay heavily over his eyes, and his silver hair was as clean as moonlight.
There was no obvious emotional change, but his pupils were about 3% larger than usual—he must be quite happy.
Moreover, having been so close just now, he saw Bai Qing’s faint pink scent gland.
He also keenly caught a trace of a faint pheromone scent.
It was sandalwood.
Xiang Zhuo’s eyes deepened. He stepped back half a pace, strictly maintaining the safe distance between an Alpha and an Omega, not an inch too close.
Bai Qing noticed Xiang Zhuo’s movement: “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I’m leaving. Remember to submit the form.”
Bai Qing nodded: “See you tomorrow.”
Xiang Zhuo stopped, as if by force of habit: “Aren’t you leaving?”
Bai Qing nodded: “I haven’t finished my extra physical training yet.”
Xiang Zhuo scoffed softly: “You’re certainly hardworking.”
Bai Qing pretended not to hear and continued his warm-up exercises.
Bai Qing was wearing a white T-shirt and light gray shorts for training convenience, revealing his long, slender legs and arms. He had been so focused on rock climbing that he didn’t even realize he had smudged his face with dirt, and there were still a few scattered small blood cuts on his arms.
This Omega seemed completely unaware of how dangerous it was to be alone in an environment full of Alphas.
Xiang Zhuo saw unfamiliar Alphas approaching in pairs nearby. His feet ultimately turned direction. He looked at Bai Qing and lowered his voice: “Where is your little errand boy? Why didn’t he come?”
Bai Qing: “He’s not my errand boy. His name is Ye Sheng, and he had something to do tonight.”
Xiang Zhuo gave a slight smile: “I don’t care who he is. But in a place with such excessively rich pheromones, you, an Omega, should absolutely not be alone. That is my only piece of advice to you, for now, as your fiancé.”
