The Silly Prince Successfully Cancels the Engagement, But the Fiancée is His Childhood Sweetheart - Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Secret
Xiang Zhuo finished speaking a torrent of words in one breath, tilting his chin slightly, and looking down at Ye Sheng with an arrogant expression.
Ye Sheng smiled and quickly blurted out everything in a rush, afraid of being interrupted: “Classmate, you might have misunderstood something. My name is Ye Sheng. I am a new student here at the National Defense Military Academy, and my secondary gender is Alpha. The Omega you have an engagement with…”
Ye Sheng pulled Bai Qing, who had been watching the scene for a long time, over: “Is this person. His name is Bai Qing, and his secondary gender is Omega. When he submitted his personal information for the genetic matching test that day, he uploaded my photo, which had been heavily edited. If we caused you any trouble, then we apologize.”
A tense undercurrent flowed between the three people. After a long silence, Ye Sheng and Bai Qing heard the mechanical click-clack sound of stiff joints being rotated. Xiang Zhuo finally looked mechanically at Bai Qing: “You are Bai Qing?”
Bai Qing didn’t answer, silently meeting Xiang Zhuo’s gaze.
Xiang Zhuo asked again: “You—are Bai Qing?”
Ye Sheng keenly noticed that the tone of Xiang Zhuo’s second question was much gentler than when he was speaking to him just now.
Ye Sheng felt utterly hopeless. Sure enough, this is a world that judges by appearance.
Bai Qing looked up: “Yes.”
Xiang Zhuo was more than half a head taller than Bai Qing. The moment Bai Qing tilted his head back, Xiang Zhuo’s gaze, looking down, landed precisely on Bai Qing’s small, delicate Adam’s apple.
Another long silence followed.
Ye Sheng looked curiously at Xiang Zhuo.
Unexpectedly, Xiang Zhuo looked as if he had been possessed by something evil. He couldn’t help but step back half a pace, was stunned for a moment, his ear tips flushing with a bizarre red, and then fled the scene as if escaping.
Ye Sheng was baffled: “What was that about?”
Bai Qing was factual: “I don’t know.”
…
Xiang Zhuo returned to the pavilion, sat down without a word, and chugged an entire bottle of energy water.
After a moment of restlessness, he went to rifle through Jing Yu’s bag again.
Jing Yu looked up, his eyes full of vigilance: “What kind of fit are you throwing now?”
Xiang Zhuo: “Got any water? I’m thirsty.”
“In the side pocket,” Jing Yu looked at the flushed Xiang Zhuo. “Why is your face so red?”
Xiang Zhuo: “Hot.”
The Military Academy’s semester started relatively late. Jing Yu looked at the very cool early autumn sky and fell into deep thought.
As Xiang Zhuo drank the water, a sliver of rationality finally returned. He abruptly asked Jing Yu: “What is your ideal other half like?”
Jing Yu raised an eyebrow in surprise: “I don’t have one, and I haven’t thought about it. Why do you ask?”
Xiang Zhuo paused, then began to recall: “Silver hair, blue eyes, about half a head shorter than me—that’s my ideal type.”
He didn’t know how it was such a coincidence, but that Bai Qing’s appearance perfectly hit his sweet spot.
Jing Yu realized that Xiang Zhuo must have met someone. He asked: “Did you see your White Moonlight Beta from the underground arena? Is he also a freshman this year?”
Xiang Zhuo finally reacted: “No. Never mind.”
Just thinking about the mysterious Beta from the underground arena gradually calmed Xiang Zhuo’s agitated mood.
That’s right.
That person is his true soulmate, the one he wants to spend his life with.
Bai Qing was just a passerby with a beautiful shell who just happened to have a high genetic match with him.
Having figured this out, Xiang Zhuo finally spoke: “I ran into Bai Qing.”
Jing Yu became serious: “Bai Qing? Why is he at the academy?”
“He’s a freshman this year.”
Before Jing Yu could speak, Xiang Zhuo read the shock in his eyes.
The two exchanged a look, understanding the implied meaning in each other’s eyes.
Bai Qing is an Omega. This is a big deal and absolutely must not cause further complications. At least, the secret shouldn’t be spread by the two of them.
…
After saying goodbye to Ye Sheng, Bai Qing returned home and used his mental power to connect with the Smart Guide, successfully binding his information.
Since classes hadn’t officially started, the schedule only covered the next two weeks.
Bai Qing quickly browsed it.
The official start of the semester is in three days, next Monday. With that, he will formally become a student of the National Defense Military Academy.
The entrance assessment exam will be held two Mondays from now. The entrance ceremony will be held on the afternoon of that same day.
Every exam at the National Defense Military Academy is anything but simple.
It is divided into two parts: a physical exam and a theoretical exam.
Bai Qing had already struggled quite a bit during the large annual unified examination for the Military Academy application. The Military Academy’s goal is to screen out excellent military talent for the Empire, and the theoretical exam focuses on obscure yet crucially important knowledge points. The physical exam is an almost impossible challenge for an Omega like Bai Qing.
The physical exam consists of four items: long-distance running, swimming, shooting, and rock climbing.
Bai Qing was best at shooting, but the other three gave him a huge headache. From the moment he first encountered mecha at age twelve before his gender differentiated, falling in love with the thrill of piloting a mecha, he resolved to apply to the Military Academy.
Every day, while completing his schoolwork, he also had to spend at least three hours training his physical fitness.
But fate loves to play tricks on people.
His training had almost no effect. Projects that Ye Sheng could complete easily left him panting and exhausted before he was even halfway done.
When he differentiated into an Omega at fourteen, all his questions were answered.
Omegas are the biological beings least suited for combat and strenuous activity.
They are suitable for wearing delicate, beautiful clothes and being kept in warm glass houses.
Bai Qing didn’t lose heart, though. His physical assessment improved from being undetectable on the machine, to being rated D-rank, and finally to C-rank when he applied to the Military Academy.
Ye Sheng admired him greatly, but Bai Qing always replied lightly: “If you practice more, you’ll master it.”
Ye Sheng also asked Bai Qing if he was being defiant, but Bai Qing didn’t think it was about being defiant. It wasn’t about proving that Omegas are powerful or strong, or that they aren’t the commonly recognized flowers in a greenhouse.
He simply wanted to see if he was, as those people claimed, inherently unsuited for these “dangerous” activities.
…
The day the National Defense Military Academy officially started arrived at last.
Both Bai Qing and Ye Sheng applied to the Mecha Combat Department. The Military Academy’s departments are very comprehensive, with seven major departments: Mecha Combat, War History Research, Strategic Command, Campaign Reserve, Starship Piloting, Special Intelligence, and Military Theory.
Although there are six departments that students are publicly allowed to apply to, the Strategic Command Department does not recruit externally but only allows enrolled students to pursue it as a double major.
It is rumored that the entrance assessment exam held before the Military Academy’s ceremony is actually meant to screen students capable of pursuing the Strategic Command double major.
For students who do not wish to pursue Strategic Command, the assessment exam before the ceremony is not as important.
The Military Academy’s Mecha Combat Department is its ace, but it is also the most dangerous department, because in the event of war, Mecha Combat students will directly confront the enemy.
Despite this, the Mecha Combat Department still has the highest number of students every year, with a total of forty classes—more than three times the size of the second largest department, Starship Piloting.
Early in the morning, the Academic Affairs Office distributed the class assignment notice through the Smart Guide.
To avoid exposing his identity, Bai Qing had his driver stop far away at the intersection near the Military Academy.
He walked the rest of the way himself.
His communication terminal suddenly rang:
[Ye Sheng]: I found it! We’ve been assigned to the same class, both in Class 33! [Ye Sheng]: Also, your cheap fiancé is right next to us. He’s in Class 34.
Upon seeing the word “fiancé,” Bai Qing was merciless and immediately logged off.
After arriving at the Military Academy, he authenticated his information, submitted his documents, and received his identity magnetic card.
The full functions of the Smart Guide were only officially unlocked after binding the identity magnetic card.
The course schedule page was displayed on the Smart Guide’s homepage.
It was only at this moment that the true “military-style management” of the National Defense Military Academy became apparent.
On the first day of official enrollment, after registering information, students had to rush to attend the first early morning class.
…
Getting up so early in the morning, plus the first class being a boring public lecture on military theory, meant four classes (33, 34, 35, and 36) were all together. The large crowd, thick as flies, made a lot of noise with the slightest movement.
Xiang Zhuo’s head was throbbing and muddled. The knowledge points simply wouldn’t sink in. In his grogginess, he couldn’t distinguish if he was dreaming or if his brain was consciously fantasizing.
In that instant, only one image appeared in his mind: the underground arena, and his long-missed soulmate standing right in front of him, but the person was walking away, their back to him.
Xiang Zhuo found that no matter how much he chased, he couldn’t catch up. He felt anxious and wanted to call out to him, but in the end, realized he didn’t know the person’s name at all.
In his panic, he actually shouted Bai Qing’s name.
The person actually stopped and turned back.
But the moment the person turned around! The originally black hair suddenly faded to silver-white, and his soulmate actually had Bai Qing’s face!
This must be a nightmare!
Xiang Zhuo instantly woke up, radiating a chill from the inside out.
He subconsciously looked diagonally ahead. Bai Qing today was wearing a highly classic-style white silk shirt. The cut and design of the collar were very avant-garde. The asymmetrical V-neck further accentuated the slenderness of his neck.
Xiang Zhuo quietly stared at him. Suddenly, as if Bai Qing sensed something, he turned his head sideways. The moment their eyes met, Xiang Zhuo almost fled in a panic, breaking eye contact with Bai Qing and pretending to look elsewhere.
But Xiang Zhuo realized belatedly: Why should I feel guilty? He immediately stared back aggressively.
But Bai Qing had already turned his head back, concentrating on the lecture.
This gave Xiang Zhuo an inexplicable feeling of having lost the upper hand. He wished he could rush over to Bai Qing now and win back a point.
Finally, when class ended, Xiang Zhuo couldn’t resist. But he suppressed his temper and walked up to Bai Qing with a cold face.
Bai Qing was sitting in his chair. Noticing a shadow fall in front of him, he slowly looked up. Xiang Zhuo’s image was reflected in his pair of beautiful lake-blue eyes.
“Bai Qing, I have something to tell you…” Xiang Zhuo nearly lost his composure under the scrutiny of those beautiful eyes. He paused, then maintained his sanity and spoke, “Come outside for a moment.”
Bai Qing didn’t speak, lowering his head to push his chair back and stand up.
Xiang Zhuo closely watched Bai Qing’s movements.
Bai Qing’s movements were very elegant. His delicate, fair neck curved into a beautiful arc. The fluffy ends of his slightly long, fragmented hair clung to the back of his neck, thinly covering half of his soft, pink scent gland.
No Alpha can completely suppress the instinct to mark an Omega.
Xiang Zhuo let out a heavy sigh, no longer daring to look at Bai Qing’s back.
Bai Qing paused his movement. Just as he reached the classroom door, he stopped and turned, looking up: “What is it?”
“I have someone I love. I cannot marry you.”
Bai Qing: “So?”
Xiang Zhuo: “I want to break off the engagement with you.”
After saying this, Xiang Zhuo stared intently at Bai Qing’s face, not missing a single subtle change in expression.
But Bai Qing showed no expression at all. Xiang Zhuo was starting to doubt whether Bai Qing had actually understood his words.
Bai Qing was very straightforward: “Fine.”
Xiang Zhuo: “…”
Bai Qing: “As long as you don’t expose my true identity as an Omega while we’re at the academy, I will help you.”
Xiang Zhuo: “…”
Bai Qing tapped a few times on his Smart Guide’s virtual screen and sent a form to Xiang Zhuo via the campus intranet contact list.
“This is the Application for Dissolution of Genetic Match. My half is already filled out. Once you fill out your half and sign it, I will submit this form to the genetic matching system.
“This is my sincerity.”
Xiang Zhuo vaguely felt that something wasn’t right.
This form would take at least five working days to process and apply for. The fact that Bai Qing had it ready now, with half of it already filled out, meant he had prepared it before the genetic testing results even came out.
Regardless of the genetic testing results, this guy, Bai Qing—didn’t want to get married at all?
Why does this feel like a loss?
