- Chapter 90 - Chapter Ninety - The Kiss
Xu Chengjin’s actions were very intimate, and she didn’t speak after she was done. Si Yu even doubted if her perception had been mistaken. She froze for a few seconds, touched her lips, and then abruptly changed the subject: “Is there anything specific you want to wear this afternoon?”
“Just something simple.”
Xu Chengjin acted as if nothing had happened, though her slightly reddened earlobes betrayed her thoughts: “How long does that topical medicine need to be applied?”
“Ten hours.”
Si Yu had already started preparing the external medication. This type of medicine needed to be wrapped over the eyes with gauze to prevent it from falling off. Furthermore, it contained slightly irritating ingredients; if Xu Chengjin showed any signs of an allergic reaction, they would have to stop immediately.
“Does it hurt?”
Si Yu carefully wrapped the gauze around Xu Chengjin: “Any discomfort?”
Xu Chengjin felt it for a moment and shook her head: “Other than feeling icy and cool, I don’t really feel anything else.”
“That’s good.” Si Yu breathed a silent sigh of relief. She rubbed Xu Chengjin’s head. “I’m going to bring the soup out. Do you want some fruit?”
“Just get whatever.”
Xu Chengjin sat cross-legged on the sofa, but perhaps finding it uncomfortable, she lay down after a while. Wearing well-fitting pajamas with the gauze on her face acting like an ornament, there was a fleeting moment where Si Yu felt as though Xu Chengjin was a goddess stepped out of some classical tale.
So noble, so beautiful.
“Alright.”
Si Yu brought the chicken soup out and let it cool for a bit before giving it to Xu Chengjin to drink. “I’ll find your clothes in a bit. Change, and then we’ll pack up and head out.”
“Okay!”
Tonight, Xu Jing had set the location at a high-end restaurant. She had booked the entire venue and invited only friends she knew. Xu Chengjin originally thought there would only be one more person, Hui Lan, but she hadn’t expected others. Listening to the voices, she realized they were friends of Xu Jing. She had met these people before, but they weren’t exactly familiar. She didn’t understand why Xu Jing had invited them.
“Sister.”
Xu Chengjin tightened her grip on Si Yu’s hand, the smile clearly gone from her face. “Didn’t you say it was just a few people we knew?”
Xu Jing walked over to Xu Chengjin and explained gently, “We haven’t gathered together in a long time. I thought today was a good opportunity to get everyone together. Do you mind, Xiaojin?”
Si Yu heard this and was about to retort on her behalf, but before she could speak, Xu Chengjin said, “I mind. Why wouldn’t I mind?”
“That’s not what you said when you asked Jin Xi to invite me. Now you’ve changed your tune. Do you want everyone to know that I’m blind?”
Xu Chengjin let out a cold laugh. she was extremely displeased right now. “Do I know them? If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have any intersection with them at all. Sister—no, President Xu—do you think I shouldn’t have the surname Xu anymore?”
She appeared calm on the surface, but in reality, she was extremely sensitive. How could she not care about her current state? Xu Jing’s actions made her feel intensely uncomfortable.
“What are you thinking?”
Xu Chengjin sneered. At this moment, her eyes were still covered in gauze and she needed someone to support her just to walk—something she had never experienced before.
The smile on Xu Jing’s face vanished instantly, replaced by panic. She immediately explained, “No, I…”
Her idea in bringing these people was to demonstrate the closeness and care between her and Xu Chengjin. It seemed she had been too hasty. Fearing that Xu Chengjin and Si Yu were truly together, she had momentarily overlooked Xu Chengjin’s feelings, but she truly couldn’t bear it.
“Xiaojin.” Xu Jing took Xu Chengjin’s hand and pulled her closer, whispering, “It was my lack of consideration. I heard that after leaving the hospital, a joyful occasion could dispel the ‘sickly air’ around you. When they asked if I was free today, I invited them without a second thought. It’s my fault. I’ll make them all leave, okay?”
Xu Chengjin said nothing and simply pulled her hand away. She tilted her head slightly. “Is everyone else here?”
“Are Wu Boran and Hui Lan here?”
Xu Chengjin gripped Si Yu’s hand and turned her head. “Take me to a seat.”
“Okay.”
Si Yu shot a glance at Xu Jing, her lips curling into a silent, mocking sneer before she slowly looked away. “Careful, follow me.”
Jin Xi and Wu Boran were still explaining the reasons for Xu Chengjin’s physical condition and didn’t notice what had just happened until Xu Chengjin sat down beside them.
“Xu Chengjin!”
Wu Boran got excited the moment she saw Xu Chengjin. She sat down next to her, her eyes involuntarily crinkling with a smile. “How are you feeling now?”
“Why did you come with President Si?”
Wu Boran had asked Jin Xi this question earlier, but the other woman only told her with a subtle expression: “Wait until she gets here, then you can ask her yourself.”
Though she didn’t understand, she followed the advice. Wu Boran took Xu Chengjin’s hand, looking expectant. “I finally get to see you.”
Feeling the warmth on her hand, Xu Chengjin lowered her head slightly and said, “Thanks for the concern.”
“As for why I am with President Si, it’s because we are living together.”
Xu Chengjin wanted to pull her hand away, but found that Wu Boran was holding it tightly, as if afraid she would run away. Just as she was about to clarify her relationship with Si Yu, a group of people crowded around: “Xiaojin, we heard about what happened to you but couldn’t find time to visit. Are you feeling better now?”
The noisy voices around her made it impossible for Xu Chengjin to tell who was speaking. She frowned and pushed Si Yu’s leg with her other hand. The next moment, the person beside her spoke up: “The cat weeps for the mouse—hypocrisy at its finest. If you really want to mourn, go cry at your own ancestral graves.”
Si Yu was also quite displeased. She frowned at the crowd. “Have you made enough noise?”
“Xu Jing!”
Si Yu raised her voice. “Are these your friends? Aren’t you going to handle them?”
“Wait, who are you?”
Most of these people had never seen Si Yu, or rather, they didn’t focus on the business world in their daily lives. They instinctively assumed she was just a friend of Xu Chengjin.
“Me?”
Si Yu sneered. “Who am I?”
“Yeah, A-Jing, who is this person? Why is she being so fierce?”
The group frowned, looking at her with impatience. Si Yu crossed her arms and looked at them. “I am Miss Xu’s bodyguard. She says she doesn’t like you and wants you to get lost.”
Xu Chengjin bit her lip. She pulled her hand out of Wu Boran’s grasp. There was no smile on her face, but she was clearly in a good mood.
Wu Boran and Jin Xi exchanged a glance but said nothing.
Only Hui Lan, standing to the side, looked completely bewildered.
“She is the head of the Si Corporation, Si Yu, and she is also my—”
Xu Chengjin slowly turned her body, her hand brushing against Si Yu’s shoulder. The next second, she accurately kissed Si Yu’s lips. Quickly, she said:
“My fiancée.”
