The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 89
The person outside the door was fierce, and it sounded like there was more than one of them. Xu Chengjin backed away slowly, lowering her voice to summon her phone’s smart assistant: “Call Si Yu.”
Only after she heard the call connecting did she speak up: “Who are you? If you don’t speak, I’m calling property management!”
“This is my niece’s house; am I not allowed to enter?”
The woman outside was aggressive. Xu Chengjin understood now—this person wasn’t here for Si Yu; they were clearly here to cause trouble for her. Seeing that the call had been picked up, she didn’t care about anything else and said quickly: “Someone claiming to be your relative is at the door right now, demanding that I let her in.”
Si Yu had originally been in a meeting. When she saw Xu Chengjin calling, a smile had initially touched her face: “Wait a moment.”
She thought Xu Chengjin missed her, but as soon as the call connected, she heard this. The smile vanished instantly, and her expression turned dark and ominous: “Meeting adjourned. I have something to deal with.”
Si Yu left the company immediately. She told Xu Chengjin to stay inside the house, saying she had already called the police and security, who would arrive in five minutes.
Xu Chengjin hummed an “um” in response. She hung up the phone and raised her voice: “Si Yu isn’t home right now. Even a relative can’t just barge into her home whenever they want.”
“Si Yu… Heh, don’t you know she’s a jinx? You still dare to stay here? You’re the youngest daughter of the Xu family, right? Come out so we can talk. I’ll give you however much money you want.”
Xu Chengjin: “…”
She cursed under her breath: “Idiot.”
It was no wonder Si Yu found the Si family annoying. It was one thing for the smart ones to be bothersome, but the idiots were disgusting enough.
Xu Chengjin narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms, her fear long gone: “Fine, but I’m feeling a bit unwell. Please wait a moment for me.”
She sat back down on the sofa and picked up a bag of snacks from the table. She called out to the smart home system to turn on the TV and lowered the volume slightly. Actually, the soundproofing here was quite good, but the person outside wouldn’t stop screaming and shouting.
Xu Chengjin suspected this person was mentally ill. How many normal people were there in the Si family besides Si Yu?
“A bit sour.”
Xu Chengjin’s face contorted slightly from the sourness. She was just about to find a trash can to spit it out when she heard a commotion outside. The next second, the front door was opened, and before she could prepare herself, she was pulled into a tight embrace by Si Yu.
“Si Yu.”
Xu Chengjin murmured her name, but she really couldn’t hold it back anymore. Before the other could speak, she pushed her away, leaned over, grabbed a tissue, and spat out the contents of her mouth. It must have been a sour plum; it was so sour her teeth felt numb.
Si Yu, however, didn’t know why and thought Xu Chengjin was physically unwell. She blinked, her face changing instantly, her voice trembling: “Xiaojin, are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
“Did they say something to you? Should I take you to the hospital?”
Hearing this, Xu Chengjin shook her head immediately, feeling a bit embarrassed: “That plum was just too sour. I’m not feeling unwell.”
Si Yu froze for a moment and gave a dry “oh”: “Okay. You rest first, I’ll go handle this.”
Xu Chengjin nodded and sat back down obediently, ignoring the insults and shouting coming from outside. The cursing was incredibly foul, sounding nothing like someone who had received a high-quality education.
“Xiaojin.”
Si Yu closed the front door. Her tone hadn’t fully shifted back yet, still carrying a cold, heavy edge: “That person is from a side branch of the Si family. I dealt them a blow a while ago, and somehow word got out that you were here. They were stupid enough to come here and threaten you. Simply brainless.”
She sat down and hugged Xu Chengjin, resting her head on the other’s shoulder: “Were you scared?”
“No.”
Xu Chengjin answered truthfully: “When is that doctor coming?”
Si Yu checked the time: “Soon, they’ve already reached the community gate. We’ll move in a couple of days. The security here is irresponsible, letting unrelated people in. What if something had happened?”
Her tone was fierce, clearly authoritative, but Xu Chengjin was amused. She took Si Yu’s hand: “So powerful. Really handsome.”
Si Yu raised an eyebrow and gave a hum: “It was nothing much.”
Xu Chengjin laughed, and the two chatted casually for a bit. Before long, the doctor arrived. After giving Xu Chengjin a thorough examination, the doctor warned that she must be very careful with her body lately. Her eyes needed external medication; otherwise, there was a high possibility of permanent blindness. Such a serious consequence startled both of them. Si Yu immediately said: “I will take good care of her.”
“That’s good. Alright, my old bones are tired from sitting. I’m heading back.”
As soon as the old Chinese medicine practitioner stood up, Si Yu followed: “I’ll see you out.”
“No need. I haven’t reached the point where I can’t walk home by myself.”
She waved her hand, opened the door, and left on her own, refusing to let Si Yu escort her. Knowing she wasn’t just being polite, Si Yu stopped. She turned around, her expression becoming serious: “Did you hear what the doctor said?”
“You need to rest well now. You absolutely cannot injure your eyes. Your routine must be regular, and your diet must be light enough. Starting tomorrow, I will be responsible for your three meals a day!”
“And today’s incident served as a reminder. Maybe I should take you to the office every day, or if that doesn’t work, find someone to take you out for a walk…”
Si Yu’s words came to an abrupt halt, swallowed back into her throat in an instant. Her eyes widened in disbelief. The warmth on her lips caused her brain to stall for a moment. What just happened?
“You—”
Si Yu raised her hand to touch her lips, then stumbled back a couple of steps. Wait… did Xu Chengjin just…
Kiss her?
