- The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All
- Chapter 91 - Who is Worthy of You?
Wu Boran had originally been watching the scene unfold with a sense of detachment. She felt it had nothing to do with her since the group was targeting Si Yu, but she never imagined that the words coming out of Xu Chengjin’s mouth would send a shock through her heart. She felt as if she had turned to stone where she stood, completely unable to believe that this scene was happening before her eyes.
Xu Chengjin and Si Yu had kissed, and they were getting married?
Wu Boran froze for a moment before immediately whipping her head around to look at Jin Xi, her eyes filled with nothing but interrogation. However, Jin Xi didn’t look at her at all; instead, she was staring at Xu Chengjin. The hand hanging at Jin Xi’s side was clenched extremely tight. Seeing this, Wu Boran faltered, a faint realization of something dawning in her mind.
The rest of the group hadn’t noticed the abnormality in Wu Boran and Jin Xi; they were stunned senseless by the news Xu Chengjin had dropped. This person was actually Si Yu? The Si Yu who held sole power over the Si family?
“You are CEO Si?”
The girl who had been speaking earlier looked panicked, her entire face turning pale. “You two are getting married?”
Xu Chengjin gave a soft “mm” in response. “We are engaged. It’s just that the engagement banquet hasn’t been held yet. I’ll have my sister invite you all when the time comes.”
A smile surfaced on Si Yu’s face as well. She gave a light laugh. “Correct. I will act as if nothing happened today, but after this, I hope not to hear such words again. I would be very unhappy.”
“Of course, of course.”
The girl glanced at those around her, and the group hurriedly backed away. Si Yu was someone they could not afford to provoke, and more importantly, the Si and Xu families were now joined in alliance. Why hadn’t Xu Jing told them?
Xu Jing stood to the side, taking in the sight of the two of them kissing. She gritted her teeth so hard it felt as if she were swallowing her own flesh and blood. How could she hate this so much? Why did she feel such intense hatred?
“Alright, alright. Everyone came here tonight to have fun, there’s no need to be so restrained.” The curve of Xu Jing’s lips was very shallow. “CEO Si, wouldn’t you agree?”
“As you wish.”
Si Yu gave a small shrug. She cast a brief glance at the crowd before calmly withdrawing her gaze and turning toward Xu Chengjin. “I see quite a few desserts over here. There should be some you can eat. Do you want to try them?”
“Okay.”
Xu Chengjin couldn’t see anything, so she could only construct a blueprint in her mind based on Si Yu’s descriptions. She felt the person beside her move away, and in the next second, Wu Boran’s interrogation was hurled at her. The other woman’s tone was no longer relaxed or sarcastic, but had become extremely serious: “You and Si Yu are together?”
“Jin Xi actually didn’t tell you.”
Xu Chengjin’s interest wasn’t very high, which made her voice less gentle than usual. Standing behind Xu Chengjin, Jin Xi lowered her eyes and let out a light cough to signal her presence. She said, “It’s better for you to say it yourself. After all, I don’t really want to face this matter—especially Si Yu. I particularly dislike her. Whether it was in the past or now, it’s the same as always… I don’t like her.”
“So that’s how it is.”
Xu Chengjin’s smile was faint. “You and my sister lied to me together?”
“I didn’t!”
Jin Xi immediately spoke up to refute her. “I only invited Hui Lan. I wouldn’t lie to you.”
A moment later, she sounded a bit aggrieved. “Are you doubting me?”
“I wouldn’t call it doubt, but when I first learned there were other people at this gathering, I was truly very unhappy. I didn’t want to doubt you, but I… I still want an answer.”
Xu Chengjin lowered her head, her voice getting lower and lower. “Where is Hui Lan?”
“She’s a bit afraid to come over. She probably hasn’t processed this yet.”
Jin Xi took a deep breath and slowly let out a sigh. Just as she was about to speak, Wu Boran interrupted them directly: “You haven’t answered me yet.”
Wu Boran grabbed Xu Chengjin’s hand, her eyes slightly bloodshot. “Tell me, when did you get together?”
“Didn’t you say you didn’t have a partner? Is it an alliance? Is it because your family—”
“No!”
Xu Chengjin interrupted Wu Boran in a low voice. She patted Wu Boran’s hand to comfort her. “I wasn’t threatened by anyone. This was my own choice.”
“You like her?”
You like her—
Xu Chengjin felt like she had heard these words several times now. Why did everyone have to come and ask her that? Were she and Si Yu really that mismatched?
It didn’t matter. As long as she felt they were compatible, that was enough. Xu Chengjin would never allow herself to fall into a spiral of internal conflict.
Xu Chengjin sighed. “I won’t force myself to do things I don’t like.”
“Is it really not a business marriage?” Wu Boran’s voice choked up at the end. If it really was just an alliance, then why couldn’t it be her?
Wu Boran had never considered that Xu Chengjin would be with someone else. Now that this day had arrived, she had to admit she was panicking. She simply could not tolerate Xu Chengjin being with anyone other than her.
“No. In fact, I was the one who proposed the engagement.”
Xu Chengjin pulled her hand away directly. “If anything, you could say I was the one who forced her into it.”
Wu Boran fell silent. She looked up at Xu Jing, who was walking toward them, her eyes full of resentment.
On what grounds—
“Xiaojin.”
Xu Jing leaned down and moved close to Xu Chengjin’s side, her breathing heavy. “It seems you really like her. But your sister still thinks this isn’t right. She isn’t worthy of you.”
“Then who is worthy of me?”
When Xu Chengjin turned her head to ask Xu Jing, she had no idea of the madness and obsession in the other woman’s eyes.
She heard Xu Jing say: “Who is worthy—”
“What do you think, my dear sister?”
