The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 105
After Si Yu finished her call with Mother Xu, she remained silent for a long while before finally calling Jin Xi. The other party took quite a bit of time to answer: “President Si, is there something the matter?”
“Your sister sent someone to take Xiaojin back. Did you know about this?”
Si Yu’s tone was as usual, sounding like a normal inquiry. Initially, Jin Xi didn’t think much of it and replied directly: “I didn’t know. Why, what happened?”
The other end of the line went quiet for several seconds. Then, Jin Xi heard Si Yu say: “I can’t find her…”
In that split second, Jin Xi looked up, her pupils trembling rapidly. People flowed past her in a constant stream, but she remained frozen in place, hearing every word Si Yu said with crystal clarity.
Jin Xi had classes in the afternoon, so after meeting Xu Chengjin, she had rushed back to school. It wasn’t until six in the evening that she returned to the Xu residence. When she pushed open the door, her behavior was no different than usual; she took off her shoes, changed into slippers, and then looked up toward the living room: “Mom, Dad.”
Father and Mother Xu were sitting together discussing something. Hearing her voice, they turned around. Mother Xu stood up and walked over: “You’re back?”
“How was your day?”
“It was alright.” Jin Xi showed no cracks on the surface. She curled her lips into a smile and said, “I went to see Xiaojin today. She went to the Si Corporation with Si Yu today. I mentioned my situation to her; I’m not sure if she contacted you.”
Jin Xi’s gaze inadvertently fell on Mother Xu’s face. Her smile was faint: “I sent her quite a few messages, but she hasn’t replied yet.”
“Oh, she did indeed tell me about that. Isn’t she unable to see right now? Perhaps that’s why her replies are a bit slow.”
Mother Xu had no intention of telling Jin Xi the truth. Her mind was still a mess; the relationship between her two daughters left her completely at a loss for what to do.
Upon hearing this, the smile on Jin Xi’s face vanished. She took two steps forward, trying to find a hint of guilt on Mother Xu’s face, but Mother Xu was too calm—worthy of being the one in charge of the Xu family.
“Mom.” Jin Xi directly pierced through Mother Xu’s lie. “Actually, I know Sister sent people to pick her up. Xiaojin told me at the time. Where is she now?”
She didn’t tell the whole truth either, still fearing in her heart that Mother Xu would deceive her. If she mentioned Si Yu’s name, she feared…
“You…”
Mother Xu choked up. She turned her head and remained silent for a long time, her eyes full of struggle. Only after a long while did she reveal the truth.
After listening, Jin Xi found it simply unbelievable. Her mouth dropped open, her eyes filled with nothing but shock: “Xu Jing has gone mad, but Mom, have you gone mad too?”
“Xiaojin is in poor health. How could you treat her like this?”
Jin Xi had naturally seen that Xu Jing liked Xu Chengjin. She originally thought Xu Jing wouldn’t be so impatient: “Mom, I haven’t spent much time with Xiaojin, but even I can feel the stubbornness in her bones. Don’t you all understand that?”
She gripped her hair, her speaking speed involuntarily quickening: “Treating her like this now—aren’t you afraid something will happen to her health?”
“Mom, Sister is acting like a fool, but you can’t be like this.”
Jin Xi grabbed Mother Xu’s hand, her eyes full of expectation: “Are you really not afraid she will hate you?”
“She really cannot endure this kind of treatment.”
Jin Xi stared intently at Mother Xu. She could clearly sense the other woman’s internal struggle, but after a long while, her hand was still brushed away by Mother Xu: “Xiaoxi, I understand what you mean.”
“But some things have already happened. Your sister truly loves Xiaojin. Both are daughters I cherish, and I… I am caught in the middle and find it very difficult. If only I hadn’t agreed to let her be with Si Yu back then.”
Mother Xu’s words left Jin Xi stunned. It was as if she were seeing Mother Xu for the first time. Jin Xi took a breath: “So you think what Sister is doing is right?”
She completely couldn’t understand it. Jin Xi blinked: “I need to go out and catch my breath. From my perspective, I can’t understand this at all.”
Mother Xu wanted to say something more, but Jin Xi had already pulled open the door and walked out, leaving Mother Xu behind to sigh.
As soon as Jin Xi stepped out, she received a call from Si Yu. Si Yu got straight to the point: “Xiaojin was taken by Xu Jing. Go and find out which house she’s in.”
“Okay.”
“I do love Xiaojin, but I’m not willing to let her be harmed. Xu Jing is too desperate.”
It wasn’t that Jin Xi couldn’t understand Xu Jing—enduring for so many years, only for her sister to fall in love with someone else just as the moral boundaries could finally be breached—but from Xu Chengjin’s perspective, it was terrifying. Ultimately, she was unwilling to see the other girl get hurt.
“Thank you. Once I find her, I’ll let you know.”
Si Yu hung up the phone immediately. She turned to look at her secretary and said in a low voice: “Go investigate.”
She was going to turn Xu Jing’s world upside down!
“Xu Jing.”
Si Yu panted slightly. She let out a sneer: “Aren’t you afraid she’ll be hurt because of this? Do you only care about yourself?”
Xu Jing looked up. Just as she was about to struggle, Si Yu stepped on her leg. Si Yu sneered: “What happens between her and me—what does it have to do with you?”
“Open the door.”
Si Yu didn’t want to waste words with Xu Jing. She hauled the woman up: “Open the door. If you don’t open it, I’ll just find someone to tear it down.”
“You wouldn’t dare—”
“Xu Jing! I’m not negotiating with you; I’m informing you.”
Si Yu let go and gave Xu Jing a shove: “I have the power. Not only do I have the power to do this, I can crush the Xu Corporation to death.”
“Stop being insane.”
After speaking, Si Yu waited a few more seconds for Xu Jing. Seeing she made no move, Si Yu looked directly at her secretary: “Find someone. Tear this door down for me.”
The soundproofing here was very good. Xu Chengjin couldn’t hear the commotion outside at all. She didn’t want to eat, nor did she want to stay here. After thinking for a long time, she decided to use a hunger strike to express her thoughts. She directly pushed over the food that had been brought in and shouted: “Xu Jing!”
No one responded to her. Only then did Xu Chengjin remember the other had already left, though she was certainly watching the surveillance.
She gritted her teeth, sat up, and pulled hard on the chain around her wrist. She didn’t know where the other had found it, but it was exceptionally sturdy. Or perhaps her strength was simply too small; she couldn’t move it at all.
However, she could already feel the pain radiating from the skin of her wrist; it was likely bleeding. Xu Chengjin endured it, but she still felt a bit aggrieved. She choked back a sob alone, but quickly adjusted her emotions and continued to express her dissatisfaction.
Xu Chengjin didn’t want to hurt herself, but as things stood, she had no other choice.
If she had known, she would have worn the watch Si Yu gave her—even a different model would have worked. Though, Xu Jing probably would have taken it off anyway.
Xu Jing, bad sister.
Xu Chengjin struggled for a while longer. She used her other hand to touch her wrist and only stopped when she felt the distinct stickiness of blood. She sat on the bed, panting, then raised her head and shouted: “Xu Jing!”
The next second, she heard the sound of footsteps coming from outside. Xu Chengjin didn’t think twice and instinctively said: “Let me—”
Her words were swallowed into an embrace. She heard that person say: “Don’t be afraid.”
“I’m taking you home.”
