The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 106
Xu Chengjin felt as if she had been trapped in a long, lingering dream. Throughout this time, she had felt lost and afraid, leading up to her final, desperate gamble. In truth, she had believed that Si Yu would come—
“Si Yu.”
Xu Chengjin murmured the name. Only then did she blink, allowing tears to gather into large droplets that rolled down her face. She hurriedly clutched Si Yu’s hand, and in the next second, her words fell into complete disarray, unable to be pieced back into a coherent sentence: “You finally… arrived.”
Her frail body was trembling. Her wrists, injured from her violent struggles, were still bleeding steadily. Nestled in Si Yu’s embrace, she did not even want to move.
When Si Yu saw Xu Chengjin in this state, she felt as though her heart was being ruthlessly wrenched. Her eyes reddened instantly. It was only when she lifted the other woman up that she noticed the terrifying wounds on Xu Chengjin’s wrists.
“President Si.”
The secretary hurried in and instructed someone to remove the shackles from Xu Chengjin’s hands. When she saw the blood dripping from Xu Chengjin’s wrists, she didn’t dare say a word. She peeked cautiously at Si Yu; her superior’s head was lowered, her bangs obscuring her expression, but the secretary knew—Si Yu was furious.
“To the hospital.”
Si Yu didn’t mention anything else. She carried Xu Chengjin and walked straight out, without granting Xu Jing even a single glance. The secretary froze for a moment before quickly following. In the short distance from the bedroom to the doorway, the dripping blood had already splattered across the floor, blooming into a dizzying, heart-shaking crimson.
Xu Jing stood alone in the empty living room. Her gaze fell upon that streak of red on the floor, her back hunched over as if she no longer had the strength to stand tall. She remained there, motionless, for a long time.
Xu Chengjin’s wounds were not particularly deep; they were primarily superficial injuries. When the doctor applied the medication, the pain caused Xu Chengjin’s tears to pour. She hissed several times in pain but didn’t dare pull her hand away, only clutching Si Yu’s clothes and burying her head in her embrace.
“It’s alright, it’s alright,” Si Yu said, gently patting Xu Chengjin’s back. She felt the heartache as well, but she forced back her sobs and said, “We’re going home in a moment.”
Xu Chengjin gave a muffled “mm.” Her voice was heavy and low, her emotions clearly in a poor state.
“Don’t let it touch water when you get back, and remember to apply the medicine every day,” the doctor said, handing the prescription to Si Yu. “Go and collect the medicine.”
“Thank you.”
Si Yu held Xu Chengjin’s hand and led her to the pharmacy. There was very little communication between the two of them the entire time, until they finally returned home—
“Si Yu.”
Xu Chengjin spoke first. She reached out to hug Si Yu, then closed her eyes, leaning her entire body weight against the other woman. “I thought…”
“Did you think you’d have to wait a few more days?”
Si Yu held Xu Chengjin, brushing the hair away from her face and looking down at her. “Your mother told me that you wanted to leave me. At the time, I thought that even if you truly had such thoughts, you should tell me to my face. But she refused to tell me your whereabouts, so I had no choice but to call Jin Xi.”
Speaking of Jin Xi, Si Yu paused visibly. After a few seconds of silence, she took out her phone and started a video call with Jin Xi. The other party picked up quickly, but just as she was about to speak, she saw the exhausted Xu Chengjin. She opened her mouth, but all she could manage to say was, “Are you okay?”
Xu Chengjin recognized Jin Xi’s voice. She forced herself to stand straight and curled her lips into a smile. “Thank you.”
She knew that Si Yu being able to find her so quickly was largely thanks to Jin Xi.
“She’s injured. When I got there, Xu Jing had her trapped on the bed,” Si Yu said, taking Xu Chengjin’s wrist directly, though she didn’t show it to the camera. If one listened closely, her tone still betrayed her displeasure. “I don’t know what kind of madness Xu Jing is gripped by, but I won’t let her off the hook during this period.”
“Xiaojin doesn’t have any major problems. We just got back from the hospital. It’s very late now, so I’m hanging up.”
Si Yu ended the call immediately. Just as she set the phone aside, she firmly caught the swaying Xu Chengjin. She felt her heart tremble, and her voice wavered slightly. “Are you alright?”
“I want to sleep.”
Xu Chengjin took a deep breath, barely finding the energy to speak. “Hold me, okay?”
As soon as those words were spoken, tears that were on the verge of falling gathered in Si Yu’s eyes. She picked Xu Chengjin up and walked steadily toward the upper floor, responding in a hoarse voice, “Okay.”
Xu Chengjin could no longer hear Si Yu’s answer. Once she relaxed, she realized just how exhausted she was. She was placed on the bed, and in her daze, she felt a warm sensation on her body, but she truly could not open her eyes. A few seconds later, amidst her struggle to stay awake, she drifted off to sleep.
Only the dim, yellow bedside lamp remained lit in the room. Si Yu bent down and carefully wiped Xu Chengjin’s body, then cautiously changed her into pajamas. Only after confirming she hadn’t woken up did Si Yu breathe a silent sigh of relief.
Si Yu slowly crouched down, eventually sitting cross-legged on the floor. In one hand, she held a warm towel, while the other gently clasped Xu Chengjin’s hand, afraid of startling her awake.
“Xiaojin.”
Si Yu rested her forehead lightly against the back of Xu Chengjin’s hand. The light fell behind her, adding a touch of warmth to the scene. She looked at Xu Chengjin with a tender gaze, and after a few seconds, she slowly closed her eyes—
Goodnight.
Xu Chengjin.
