The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 100
Jin Xi left immediately after she finished speaking, as if she had come solely to deliver the news. Si Yu sat on the sofa resting, recalling the attitude Jin Xi had displayed during their conversation. A sense of unease lingered in her heart. “Are you going to go back for a visit now?”
“I didn’t even go back when Father was discharged from the hospital, though my own health wasn’t great to begin with.”
Xu Chengjin leaned against Si Yu’s chair, taking a moment to remark, “This chair is really comfortable. Can we get one like it for the house?”
Upon hearing this, Si Yu’s eyes curved into a smile. She carefully considered the practical factors before replying, “We’ll arrange one for you once your eyes are better. Having it in the house now might cause you to trip.”
“Alright then.”
Xu Chengjin felt a bit regretful. She handed her phone to Si Yu. “Help me call my mother.”
“Okay.”
Si Yu obediently dialed Xu’s mother’s number. It was answered quickly. Xu Chengjin held the phone in one hand while her other hand nervously tugged at the corner of her clothes; she was still feeling somewhat tense. “Mom.”
There was silence on the other end for a moment. Then, Xu Chengjin heard Xu Jing’s voice: “Xiaojin, Mom is busy.”
Xu Chengjin was slightly stunned, but her tone quickly returned to normal. “I see. Jin Xi just came by to talk to me about the matter of recognizing her back into the family. I was thinking about whether I should come back for a visit. I haven’t seen Father since he was discharged, and Mom was injured too.”
“Is that so…”
Xu Jing fell silent for a moment. She seemed to walk to a quieter place before speaking again a few seconds later. “Sister is very sorry about what happened yesterday, but I hope you don’t hold a grudge against me.”
“I won’t. You are still my family.”
Xu Chengjin shifted the topic, clearing her throat. “In that case, find someone to come pick me up later… actually, never mind. I’ll have Si Yu arrange a driver for me.”
“No need!”
Xu Jing immediately interrupted Xu Chengjin, saying instantly, “I’ll arrange a driver to pick you up. Just wait a little while.”
“Alright.”
Xu Chengjin exchanged a few more casual words. “See you later.”
Seeing her hang up, Si Yu immediately asked, “You’re going back?”
“Yes, but come pick me up as soon as things are handled.”
Xu Chengjin tapped her fingers on the table and leaned her chin on her hand with a smile. “Where is that watch you gave me before?”
Si Yu walked behind Xu Chengjin and massaged her shoulders. She leaned down and whispered, “That watch was sent back to the factory for repairs. When you fell last time… the watch had some issues. It should be fixed in a couple of days.”
Xu Chengjin let out an “Ah,” and feigned a complaint, “This watch you developed is way too fragile.”
“My fault.”
Si Yu rubbed Xu Chengjin’s face. She bent down, resting her head on Xu Chengjin’s shoulder, closing her eyes and taking a breath:
“I’ll come to get you in a little while.”
The Xu family driver arrived quickly. Si Yu escorted Xu Chengjin downstairs. The driver sent to pick her up was someone who had driven her since she was a child, so Xu Chengjin trusted him completely. After getting into the car, she waved at Si Yu. “I’m leaving. I’ll message you when I arrive.”
“Okay.”
Si Yu stood by and watched the car depart, only leaving after she was sure everything was fine.
“I’m going to sleep for a bit. Wake me up when we arrive.”
Xu Chengjin always felt drowsy as soon as she got into a car. She lay down in the back seat to rest for a while. Before long, she felt the car come to a stop. “What happened?”
It was impossible for them to be home already.
“The car seems to have a problem, Miss. Please wait a moment while I get out to check.”
The car door opened and then closed. Xu Chengjin didn’t think much of these sounds and continued to lie down and rest. Even when the car started up again, she didn’t sense anything unusual.
“We’re here.”
The driver stopped the car and opened the rear door. Xu Chengjin was in a daze from sleep; she instinctively let the person help her out. “Did I sleep for a long time?”
Xu Chengjin felt around to grab the person’s hand, wanting to walk on her own. “I can do it myself…”
She fell silent for a few seconds. She had held this hand for at least ten years; how could she not be familiar with it?
“Xiaojin.”
Xu Jing’s voice sounded like a ghost. Xu Chengjin instinctively tried to struggle, but in the next second, her lips were covered by the other woman. As her consciousness began to fade, she only heard Xu Jing say, “Have a good sleep.”
“My Xiaojin.”
