The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 99
Si Yu was dazed by Xu Chengjin’s words. She looked at Xu Chengjin with a hint of disbelief. “Are you saying that the reason you brushed your teeth was for me?”
Her tone was certain, as if Xu Chengjin had done it solely for her sake.
“Not necessarily; I was just asking casually.”
Xu Chengjin said this, but the smile in her eyes had already betrayed her. She slowly approached Si Yu, and the other woman responded by wrapping an arm around her waist. Xu Chengjin’s voice was full of laughter: “You—”
“President Si.”
The secretary’s voice suddenly drifted in from outside the door, sounding somewhat awkward. “Um, Miss Jin Xi is here to see Miss Xu.”
She knew Jin Xi and was well aware of the relationship between Jin Xi and Xu Chengjin, so she hadn’t dared to stop her abruptly. “Should I turn her away?”
The movements of Xu Chengjin and Si Yu came to a halt. The ambiguous atmosphere vanished without a trace in that instant. Xu Chengjin gave Si Yu a gentle push. “Let her in.”
They allowed Jin Xi to come up. Today, Jin Xi was wearing a light green sweatshirt with her hair tied up high, making her look extremely youthful and sunny. “Xiaojin.”
“Why didn’t you send me a message?”
Xu Chengjin had already taken a seat on the sofa. Si Yu had placed the chicken noodle soup in front of her, letting Xu Chengjin sit in her own chair because the height of the chair and table meant she wouldn’t have to bend over to eat, making it relatively more convenient.
“I thought that rather than contacting you online, I should just come find you. Sister wouldn’t tell me what happened last night.”
Jin Xi sat across from Xu Chengjin, effectively forcing Si Yu to eat on the sofa. She clasped her hands over her lower abdomen, her entire posture very relaxed. “Did she say something to make you unhappy?”
Xu Chengjin fell silent as she recalled the events of the previous night. She took a sip of the soup with a spoon and then said softly, “It’s normal for conflicts to happen. I don’t really want to discuss it. Did you come here just to gossip?”
“Of course not.”
Jin Xi curled her lips into a smile. She propped up her chin and stared at Xu Chengjin. “Dad has been discharged from the hospital. He also learned about the situation between you and Si Yu. Over the last couple of days, we’ve been discussing when to give me a legitimate status.”
“Do you two have any thoughts on this?”
Xu Chengjin asked Si Yu to bring over some snacks and fruit as she began to consider the question. “Lately… I think it’s fine. It’s better to be recognized sooner rather than later to avoid any complications. Besides, you’ve certainly suffered a lot all these years; there’s no need to keep hiding it anymore. It’s best to settle it as soon as possible.”
Jin Xi did not refuse the food Si Yu handed her. Her eyes crinkled with a smile, but the warmth never quite reached the depths of her eyes. “I think so too. However, I’m a bit worried about your eyes. If they haven’t fully healed by then, would it be inconvenient for you to attend?”
“This matter centers around you; there’s no need to worry about me. I think it’s fine. Even if I can’t see right now, as long as someone is leading me, I’m not afraid. Don’t you agree?”
Xu Chengjin put down her chopsticks and wiped her mouth. “How about we resolve it this week? Final exams are coming up soon, and reviewing for exams will take up a lot of time later. It’s better to settle it early to prevent certain people from saying things they shouldn’t behind our backs.”
She still felt it was better to handle the matter quickly. Xu Chengjin’s tone became serious. “I’ll discuss it with Mom and Dad later.”
“Alright.”
Jin Xi readily agreed. She turned her head to look at Si Yu and then raised an eyebrow. “Since you and President Si are engaged, then President Si should come along as well. After all, we’ll be family in the future.”
“Family…”
Si Yu pulled a smile, though she didn’t even spare a glance for Jin Xi. “Sure. On that day, I will definitely bring a generous gift—”
She emphasized every word heavily: “One that will definitely give you a surprise.”
