The Sickly Beauty Beta Got Pregnant After A Political Marriage - Chapter 9
Before long, Zhou Yi walked in, and the sight before him left him utterly stunned.
It was his first time seeing his usually cold and aloof boss standing guard like a protective guardian statue. The “Little Rose” he was guarding, Shen Jiayu, lay quietly in the hospital bed, asleep and looking frail with illness.
Showing great tact, Zhou Yi lightened his steps as he approached Wen Xiuheng. In a lowered voice, he reported that the ambulance had arrived and the aftermath at the school had been handled.
Wen Xiuheng nodded. He stood up, took off his expensive suit jacket, and draped it over Shen Jiayu. Then, with movements as gentle as if he were handling a fragile, newborn rose, he lifted Shen Jiayu into his arms.
As Wen Xiuheng carried Shen Jiayu out, Yin Youning and Qin Yu, who were waiting outside, immediately hurried toward them.
The oversized jacket wrapped the slender, petite boy tightly, his head unconsciously buried deep against the Alpha’s chest.
Seeing that Shen Jiayu was asleep, Yin Youning didn’t dare speak loudly. But suddenly, he caught the scent of pheromones lingering on Shen Jiayu, it was identical to the scent of the Alpha holding him.
Frosty, powerful, and overwhelming.
It was as if the owner of the pheromones was declaring sovereignty and an intense possessiveness over the boy in his arms.
Yin Youning froze on the spot, his eyes widening as he murmured, “You…”
Wen Xiuheng merely gave them a cool glance and said softly, “I’m taking him to the hospital.”
With that, he continued walking forward with Shen Jiayu.
Yin Youning wanted to follow and say more, but Qin Yu stopped him, shaking his head.
As a fellow Alpha, Qin Yu had naturally sensed the S-class Alpha pheromones enveloping Shen Jiayu. He knew Yin Youning wanted to ask Wen Xiuheng if he had marked Shen Jiayu while he was unconscious.
However, Qin Yu had noticed earlier that there were no marks on the back of Shen Jiayu’s neck.
Although Betas cannot be permanently marked or truly “possessed,” some Alphas would pierce the back of a Beta’s neck to forcibly inject pheromones, creating a temporary mark. This type of marking only lasts a short time, so an Alpha would have to mark them repeatedly as proof of possession.
But from the looks of it, Wen Xiuheng hadn’t done that yet.
It seemed this Alpha had simply drenched Shen Jiayu in his pheromones, forcefully declaring his territory to any other Alpha or Omega.
Yet, in reality, they were already partners; there was nothing anyone could do to interfere with Wen Xiuheng’s actions.
As a Beta, Zhou Yi couldn’t smell the pheromones on Shen Jiayu. Unsure why the two students looked so shocked, he glanced at them curiously before quickly following his boss.
Shen Jiayu was carried into the ambulance. On the way to the hospital, he blearily opened his eyes. Catching a faint glimpse of Wen Xiuheng’s face, he murmured softly, “Mr. Wen…”
A large hand brushed against his cheek, and a husky voice replied, “Mm, I’m here.”
His eyelids were still heavy and his mind was foggy. Soon, Shen Jiayu drifted back into sleep.
When he woke up again, he found himself in the hospital, a place he had been all too familiar with since childhood.
As his consciousness cleared, he remembered how he had gotten there. Mr. Wen must have brought him.
Then, a familiar, deep, and magnetic voice spoke beside him: “You’re awake. How are you feeling?”
Startled, Shen Jiayu turned his head. Wen Xiuheng was sitting by his side, watching him.
“Mr. Wen, you…”
He hadn’t expected to see Mr. Wen the moment he woke up. Judging by the light in the room, it seemed to be evening already. Had Mr. Wen been staying here the whole time since bringing him to the hospital?
Those silver-gray eyes continued to watch him calmly.
Shen Jiayu dazed for a moment, then slowly nodded and answered obediently, “It doesn’t hurt anymore, Mr. Wen.”
He pursed his lips and added softly, “Thank you.”
At this, Wen Xiuheng stood up and leaned toward him.
While Shen Jiayu looked on in surprise and confusion, a large hand was gently pressed against his forehead.
The atmosphere between them grew still. Shen Jiayu’s fingers involuntarily tightened on the blanket.
After a moment, the Alpha seemed to relax and stated quietly, “No fever.”
Shen Jiayu couldn’t help but recall the day he first arrived at Mr. Wen’s house and fainted, it turned out Mr. Wen was still worried about him.
Just then, a doctor walked in with a brisk stride. He looked young and had a crisp voice that felt strangely familiar to Shen Jiayu.
His first words were quite casual: “Young Master Shen, you’re awake?”
Shen Jiayu glanced at Wen Xiuheng first, then nodded gently.
Wen Xiuheng introduced Lu Jun to Shen Jiayu, explaining that Lu Jun was the doctor who had visited the house the day he fainted from a fever.
Shen Jiayu nodded in realization, no wonder Dr. Lu seemed familiar.
Lu Jun, however, seemed dissatisfied with Wen Xiuheng’s introduction. He let out a “tsk” and added with a smile, “Actually, we’re old classmates. I’ve known him since elementary school.”
He nudged Wen Xiuheng with his shoulder, only for Wen Xiuheng to look over with a cold stare.
Accustomed to this, Lu Jun just shrugged and raised an eyebrow at Wen Xiuheng. He then put on his mask and took out a stethoscope.
“Just to be safe, let’s do another check-up.”
During the examination, Lu Jun dropped his playful demeanor and became serious and professional. After all, his title as the Chief Physician of Cardiology at Chengya Hospital was earned through true skill.
After the check-up, Lu Jun gave serious instructions. Congenital heart disease requires daily care and medication, if the condition worsens, surgery becomes necessary. However, since Shen Jiayu’s constitution was naturally weak, surgery would put immense pressure and burden on his body. Therefore, it was vital to maintain strict care in daily life. It was best to avoid open heart surgery unless absolutely necessary.
Wen Xiuheng listened intently.
At the end, Shen Jiayu timidly asked when he could go home. Lu Jun replied that for safety reasons, he recommended staying overnight for observation.
Before leaving, Lu Jun nudged Wen Xiuheng again, signaling that he had something to say in private.
Wen Xiuheng waited for a nurse to arrive to stay with Shen Jiayu before following Lu Jun out.
In a quiet hallway, Lu Jun finally took off his mask and looked at Wen Xiuheng with a horrified expression. “Tsk, what did you do to that little beauty? He’s covered in your pheromones. It’s a good thing Young Master Shen is a Beta and can’t smell it.”
Lu Jun was also a rare S-class Alpha, and he had noticed the scent almost the second he began the exam.
Wen Xiuheng raised his eyelids coldly. “Is this why you called me out?”
Lu Jun rolled his eyes. “I’m trying to remind you, President Wen, even if you like him or want to mark your territory, don’t forget that it’s the beginning of the month. Your rut is approaching soon. What do you plan to do this time? Are you going to lock yourself up like before?”
Lu Jun had always known about Wen Xiuheng’s rut disorder. To this day, the medical world has no complete cure for it. One could only rely on medication, but that wasn’t a long term solution as its effectiveness decreased over time. The only other way was to try marking an Omega.
But a man as cold and indifferent as Wen Xiuheng had never shown interest in desire or romance, let alone marking an Omega. Given his status, plenty of Omegas would be willing, but Wen Xiuheng had zero interest.
Of course, in terms of emotions, the Young Master Shen currently in the hospital room was the only exception Lu Jun had ever seen in all the years he’d known Wen Xiuheng.
Lu Jun hadn’t expected to see traces of Wen Xiuheng’s “temporary marking” on a Beta.
It was simply… unbelievable.
However, the conversation about Wen Xiuheng’s rut once again ended without a resolution. Wen Xiuheng turned and left quickly, leaving Lu Jun to think indignantly, Fine, whatever, I don’t care anymore.
When Wen Xiuheng returned to the room, Shen Jiayu was already sitting up in bed.
Wen Xiuheng told him that he had already instructed Auntie Cui to prepare a meal and bring it to the hospital, concerned that Shen Jiayu wouldn’t like the hospital food. If he needed anything else, Auntie Cui could bring it along.
Shen Jiayu thought for a moment, then gave a soft, obedient smile and said he didn’t need anything else. He could tell Mr. Wen had prepared the best room for him, daily necessities were likely already provided.
However, since this was Chengya Hospital… Shen Jiayu lowered his eyes hesitantly.
Sensing he had more to say, Wen Xiuheng walked to his side.
“What is it?” the deep voice asked.
Shen Jiayu pursed his lips and looked up tentatively. “Mr. Wen, can we… not let my mother know I’m in the hospital? I don’t want her to worry about me anymore…”
He was a little afraid of running into his mother, as they were both in the same hospital now. If she knew he had been hospitalized again for his heart, she would surely be even more worried and sad.
“Of course,” Wen Xiuheng sighed softly, his voice tinged with heartache and helplessness. “Don’t worry.”
Shen Jiayu heard the same words Mr. Wen had told him during his attack.
Back then, he had also repeated things like “don’t worry” and “don’t be afraid.”
Those words seemed to have a magical power, making his fear subside.
Shen Jiayu looked at Wen Xiuheng and slowly broke into a smile.
“Thank you.”
The bright, trusting smile caused Wen Xiuheng to daze for a split second.
Later, Zhou Yi knocked and brought several documents for Wen Xiuheng.
Wen Xiuheng told Shen Jiayu that he would be staying at the hospital with him tonight.
Shen Jiayu was surprised. He knew Mr. Wen had just returned from a business trip abroad and had been taking care of him since the opening ceremony; he must be exhausted.
Shen Jiayu tried to persuade him to go home and rest, not wanting to trouble him.
But Wen Xiuheng insisted it was fine, saying it was his duty as a partner. After all, they were legally married.
And so, Wen Xiuheng stayed.
That night in the hospital, Shen Jiayu fell asleep early due to his physical condition.
A warm orange nightlight was left on in the large room, just as Shen Jiayu usually preferred.
On the sofa by the bed, Wen Xiuheng read a few pages of a document before setting it down. His gaze fell once more on the sleeping boy.
In the soft glow, Shen Jiayu was facing him, his exquisite face half-buried in the pillow. He slept peacefully, his long eyelashes casting small shadows on his fair cheeks.
Wen Xiuheng watched him silently for a long time. Then, unconsciously, he stood up and walked to the bedside.
As his large hand gently brushed against Shen Jiayu’s face, a word Lu Jun had mentioned suddenly echoed in his mind.
“Like.”
In the interplay of the dark night and the dim lamplight, the Alpha wordlessly tightened his lips, his gaze deep and inscrutable.
After being kept for observation overnight, Shen Jiayu had no further issues and was successfully discharged to return to school.
He didn’t want to fall behind on his classes right at the start of the semester, nor did he want to take up any more of Wen Xiuheng’s time.
Before leaving, Shen Jiayu changed out of his hospital gown and quietly slipped upstairs to visit his father and mother.
At the Academy of Fine Arts, Shen Jiayu inevitably became a topic of conversation. He knew he couldn’t control what others thought or said, so he tried his best to remain indifferent.
He poured his energy into his studies, attending every professional class with focus and dedication.
He and Yin Youning continued to attend classes and rest together, just like the previous semester.
However, during the first two days after his return, Yin Youning seemed constantly on the verge of saying something. The reason was simple. Yin Youning could still smell the Alpha’s pheromones lingering on Shen Jiayu.
Strong, possessive, and highly aggressive.
Only Shen Jiayu himself couldn’t smell it.
