The Sickly Beauty Beta Got Pregnant After A Political Marriage - Chapter 8
Wen Xiuheng held him, his silver-gray pupils reflecting Shen Jiayu’s pale and fragile face. The Alpha’s eyes were filled entirely with heartache.
“Don’t be afraid. Take the medicine first,” Wen Xiuheng said in a low, deep voice that made one instinctively want to rely on him.
A pill was quickly pressed into Shen Jiayu’s mouth. Shen Jiayu soon realized this was the emergency medicine he took whenever his condition flared up.
Does Mr. Wen always carry my medicine with him…?
Even after taking the medicine, the pain in his heart caused Shen Jiayu to tremble uncontrollably in the Alpha’s arms. He took short, hurried breaths against his chest, tears falling incessantly as the corners of his eyes turned a deep red.
Such a pitiful and lovely sight was impossible for an Alpha not to ache for. Wen Xiuheng’s handsome, stern face furrowed with worry, he felt as if his own heart were being ruthlessly squeezed. He gently stroked the youth’s cheek.
The ceremony had been paused due to the emergency. The school authorities quickly sent people down to check the situation, and Zhou Yi ran over immediately.
Wen Xiuheng said in a heavy voice, “I’ll take him to the infirmary first. Have the ambulance come right away.”
Zhou Yi nodded immediately in response.
“I want to go too!” Yin Youning rushed in front of Wen Xiuheng like a frantic little rabbit, with Qin Yu following close behind.
Wen Xiuheng glanced at them. Then, under the watchful gaze of the entire audience, he carried Shen Jiayu in his arms and walked swiftly out of the auditorium.
Yin Youning and Qin Yu chased after them. Being an Alpha himself, Qin Yu keenly sensed a powerful aura of oppression and deterrence emanating from the man, causing an involuntary chill to run through his body.
The eyes of all the students were fixed on Wen Xiuheng, and various whispers broke out in the auditorium.
As Wen Xiuheng passed through the crowd holding Shen Jiayu, some people looked on in stunned disbelief. They had previously been saying things like, “Since it’s an arranged marriage, Wen Xiuheng probably doesn’t even like Shen Jiayu.” Looking at it now, those words felt like a direct slap to the face. Given the CEO’s actions, how could this be called “not liking” him?
After Wen Xiuheng left with Shen Jiayu, the school assigned staff to follow up on the situation while calming the remaining students to continue the ceremony.
The infirmary was not far from the auditorium. Wen Xiuheng arrived quickly, and the school doctor immediately began examining Shen Jiayu.
Shen Jiayu cried the whole way there, like a shivering, pitiable kitten. His tears soaked a small patch of Wen Xiuheng’s chest. Though this suit was a high-end, hand-tailored luxury piece, Wen Xiuheng didn’t care about it at all.
He carefully placed Shen Jiayu on the infirmary bed, his well-defined fingers gently wiping the tears from the corners of Shen Jiayu’s eyes. He comforted him in a low, gentle voice: “Jiayu, let the doctor examine you. I’ll wait for you outside, okay?”
Because he had taken the emergency medicine, the pain in Shen Jiayu’s heart had subsided significantly by the time they arrived. However, because he had been crying so hard, he couldn’t stop sobbing, and his entire body continued to shudder.
Wen Xiuheng’s heart softened even further. He couldn’t help but sigh lowly as he coaxed him: “Be good, stop crying. Don’t be afraid, everything will be fine.”
“Wu… mmm, mmm… wu…” Shen Jiayu sobbed while nodding in agreement, looking incredibly soft and obedient.
For a moment, Wen Xiuheng found it hard to look away, only stepping out when prompted by the school doctor.
In the infirmary lobby, Yin Youning and Qin Yu finally caught up. There was no helping it, this Alpha was tall and had a fast stride. Qin Yu had also slowed down to wait for Yin Youning.
As soon as they entered, they saw Wen Xiuheng standing before them. The sense of deterrence and pressure brought by an S-rank Alpha made them feel as if they were pinned to the spot.
Wen Xiuheng looked down at them.
One Omega, one Alpha.
After the doctor finished the examination, Wen Xiuheng was called back in, while Yin Youning and Qin Yu remained outside.
Having experienced a sudden crisis, Shen Jiayu was physically and mentally exhausted. His consciousness was currently hazy, and he kept his eyes closed, his face deathly pale.
The school doctor explained that for a patient with congenital heart disease like Shen Jiayu, a sudden flare-up was very dangerous. Fortunately, he had taken his medicine in time, and his condition had improved, though a more detailed check-up at a hospital was necessary.
Wen Xiuheng nodded, stating that an ambulance was already on its way. The doctor then left them alone.
Wen Xiuheng sat beside Shen Jiayu and wiped away the remaining tears on his face. Even though he used very little force, the pads of his fingers left red marks on the delicate skin near his eyes. The Alpha sighed inwardly with pity.
Sensing a familiar touch, Shen Jiayu slowly opened his eyes. His long eyelashes fluttered as he called out in a soft, trembling voice: “Mr. Wen…”
The Alpha’s hand paused its gentle stroking of his cheek, but he did not pull away.
“I’m here,” the Alpha replied in a low, husky voice. “Rest well. Don’t be afraid.”
“Mhm…” Shen Jiayu slowly closed his eyes. His voice was very faint, as if it might disappear at any moment.
Then, his rose colored eyes opened again, filled with apology: “Mr. Wen, the opening ceremony…”
He felt guilty after all, his condition had disrupted the ceremony and forced Mr. Wen to come and take care of him.
The Alpha sighed heavily in his heart, though his words remained tender: “Don’t worry. Everything will be handled.”
Hearing those words, Shen Jiayu felt inexplicably much more at ease. In the time he had spent with Mr. Wen, he felt the man was responsible and reliable, the kind of adult he wanted to become. It made one want to depend on him.
Nodding weakly, Shen Jiayu fell back into an exhausted sleep.
Wen Xiuheng sat quietly by his side, gazing down at the exquisite, fragile face before him.
The hair on Shen Jiayu’s forehead was damp with cold sweat from the earlier pain, clinging to his snowy skin and partially obscuring his beautiful eyes.
Wen Xiuheng raised his arm and tucked the messy, rose tinted strands behind his ear.
Then, his broad, powerful palm slowly moved down the side of the youth’s face, gently caressing the pale, weak cheek.
Further down was the youth’s slender, elegant swan-like neck.
Unlike Alphas and Omegas, Betas do not have glands on the back of their necks and cannot release pheromones. They cannot be marked, and they cannot be possessed. However, Betas can easily pick up the scents of Alphas or Omegas. Even mere physical proximity in daily life can cause a Beta to be tainted by the scent of pheromones.
Wen Xiuheng’s gaze fell on the back of the youth’s neck, his eyes darkening.
An S-rank Alpha can keenly detect the pheromones of any other Alpha or Omega. At this moment, lingering around Shen Jiayu, besides his own natural scent were two others. Their scents were very faint; if it were any other rank of Alpha, they would be difficult to detect.
But for Wen Xiuheng, he could distinguish them easily: one was the scent of peppermint belonging to an Alpha, and the other was the lime citrus fragrance of an Omega.
They were the scents of the two people who had chased after them.
Wen Xiuheng’s eyes grew deeper.
A moment later, the Alpha’s broad, powerful palm slowly covered the back of the youth’s neck, rubbing it gently.
In an instant, pheromones like a raging blizzard, possessive and invasive, blanketed the other two scents.
The coverage was absolute and thorough, leaving not a single trace behind.
