On the second night in B City, the two were already packing their luggage to return to A City.

Jiang Ningxun was bent over packing clothes when he saw Song Shidu preparing to head out again. “It is so late; why are you going out?”

“I am going to watch a good show.”

Song Shidu pulled on his black leather gloves. Seeing Jiang Ningxun’s puffed-out cheeks and dissatisfied expression, he sighed softly and opened his arms for a hug. “Baby, wait for me for ten minutes. Just ten minutes, okay? I will be back very soon. Give me a hug.”

“Bullshit! Give it back!” Enraged, Xiao Shuai lunged to reclaim the files, but Song Shidu dodged with a slight sideways movement.

He kicked Xiao Shuai’s hand away and then threw the thick stack of papers directly in his face. The fluttering sheets represented the self-esteem, money, and power that Xiao Shuai had lost.

Song Shidu stood up, looking at him with icy eyes. “A waste without ability cannot even eat a piece of cake given to them. This is the result.”

Xiao Shuai’s eyes turned red with desperation. He frantically gathered the muddied documents into his arms, shouting like a madman, “I did not fail! I did not fail! I prepared for this project for so long. I am not inferior to you!”

“Then why are there no signatures on these? You negotiated for three days and not only failed to meet expectations but lost the opportunity entirely. You caused the company a massive loss.”

Xiao Shuai froze, murmuring to himself, “I clearly drank as much as they wanted. I drank several bottles of white spirits. I flattered them like a dog! Where did I go wrong?”

“Because you did not understand your position. You truly treated yourself like a dog.” Song Shidu’s voice was deep and cold. “This was not an unequal contract; it was a partnership. You should have treated yourself as an equal during the discussion. Instead, you were pouring water and giving massages.”

“Do you think you are a servant? That only makes them look down on you and your lack of reliability.” Song Shidu crouched down and poked Xiao Shuai’s head with his finger. “Why do you think I called you a waste at the company? You never put effort into serious matters. Your work is sloppy and your execution is poor. You spent all your talent on stepping on others or flattering them.”

“You have no ability, yet you treated me as a competitor and an imaginary enemy. Are you even worthy?”

“Fine. You wanted this cake so badly, so I gave it to you. Do you see your success now?”

Xiao Shuai was lost. “I failed.”

“Heh. Not only did you fail.” Song Shidu pulled out his phone and showed him a screen filled with receipts for financial transactions. “Your overconfidence has destroyed you. These are the things you bought after you thought you successfully framed me and secured the project.”

“You took out loans in advance for a house, a car, and spent a series of funds to get a wife. Three million yuan in total. Where did you get the confidence to think you would succeed? Can you pay it back now?”

Xiao Shuai’s heart instantly grew cold, his eyes filled with dread and panic. He did not know how Song Shidu had found out these things, but he knew his life was over.

Song Shidu delivered the final blow: “I noticed Xiao Mei is starting to talk. The police will soon trace the mastermind back to you. When that happens, you will have to take legal responsibility.”

Song Shidu checked the time. The smile vanished from his face instantly; twenty minutes had passed. He wasted no more words and used his gloved hand to strike Xiao Shuai across the face as an act of revenge. “Think about it yourself.”

Song Shidu left in a hurry, messaging as he walked: “Is baby asleep? I am going to the night market to buy you a snack.”

Jiang Ningxun: “I want chicken legs.”

Xiao Shuai watched him walk further away. He knelt on the ground clutching his face for a long time, staring at the receipts for millions on his phone screen. Finally, he moved, walking toward an abandoned building.

The next day, on the hard seats of the train:

Jiang Ningxun was cradling Song Shidu’s wolf tail in his arms. It was warm and comfortable. He gave his own fox tail to Song Shidu to hold, and the two leaned their heads together in a light sleep. Anyone who saw them would know they were a couple in the middle of a passionate romance.
