Three days passed quickly. It was now evening.

Jiang Ningxun stood on the balcony in his pajamas, gazing at the moon and thinking of his partner. After a moment, his phone rang with a video call. He answered it instantly. “Who is it? A marketing call, or perhaps life insurance? I will take it all; just bill it to a man named Song Shidu.”

A low, magnetic chuckle came from the phone speaker.

“You might as well sell me directly. I cannot afford that.”

Jiang Ningxun laughed. “Haha, that is not a bad idea.”

The video showed a hotel corridor. Song Shidu had just finished a contract meeting. His face was flushed, and he seemed to have drunk quite a bit of alcohol. He was walking slowly toward his room, looking unsteady.

Jiang Ningxun was worried. “Are you okay? How much did they make you drink?”

Song Shidu used his key card to open a door, only to find it would not budge. He looked up in confusion and realized he was at the wrong room. He tapped his forehead to clear his mind a bit. “I am fine. I am the newcomer, so the boss blocked most of the drinks for me.”

Jiang Ningxun felt the cool breeze for a while longer before preparing for bed. Suddenly, he caught something out of the corner of his eye and froze. A person was standing by a large tree downstairs. The individual wore heavy clothing, a mask, and glasses, not showing a single strand of hair. Wearing such an outfit in the middle of the night made them a total eccentric.

The figure stood directly across from his window, their entire silhouette blending into the darkness. Jiang Ningxun had not paid much attention while on the video call, but looking now, he felt his skin crawl. Could he be being watched? No, that was impossible; he was not a famous person.

Jiang Ningxun turned around, let out a yawn, closed the window, and left. The moment the window shut, the strange person moved. They lifted a foot to leave but stopped after seeing something. Without a moment of hesitation, they strode toward the building entrance.

Inside, Jiang Ningxun took a hot shower and was drying his wet hair with a towel, heading toward the bedroom. Just then, there was a sharp, urgent knocking at the front door.

“Hmm?” Jiang Ningxun frowned, feeling strange. Who would visit in the middle of the night? He approached slowly. He did not open the door recklessly but looked out through the peephole.

He saw a curly haired old woman standing at the door. She had heavy dark circles under her eyes and many wrinkles on her face, looking very agitated. Seeing no response from inside, she knocked again. Thud, thud, thud! She had the air of someone who would not leave until the door was opened.

Jiang Ningxun tested the waters. “Who is it?”

Hearing the voice from right behind the door, the woman instantly leaned toward the peephole. Her large eyes peered inside intently. The whites of her eyes were bloodshot, and her pupils rolled around in their sockets. It was unclear if she could actually see anything. This sudden face to face sight through the lens terrified Jiang Ningxun, making him stumble back. He thought the woman was insane. He had just witnessed a scene straight out of a horror movie, staring into an eyeball at close range.

The woman began to shout, “Do you have any civic virtue? Is your place leaking? My ceiling is completely soaked, and water is dripping down!”

A leak? He had indeed taken a shower recently, but it was not long enough to cause a leak. Furthermore, it was now after midnight. Jiang Ningxun’s alertness surged. He replied in a heavy voice, “That is a problem with the building materials. You should contact property management to solve it.”

“No! You must come out and provide compensation! The leak dripped on my precious painting, which is worth over a hundred thousand yuan!”

“If you continue to harass me, I am going to call the police!”
