- Chapter 19 - Song Shidu’s Alleged Drunken Misconduct
The kitchen knife hacked violently toward Jiang Ningxun’s face. He scrambled backward just in time, but his hands remained clamped firmly on the door handle. He could not let go; once he did, the door would swing wide open. Jiang Ningxun could not even imagine what would happen if those two madmen stepped inside.
His eyes darted around, searching for something to use as a weapon, and landed on an object on the shoe rack. A wave of relief washed over him.
It was pepper spray and an electric baton.
Song Shidu had prepared them long ago, just in case.
Five days ago.
As soon as Song Shidu finished work, he returned home carrying a large pile of items. He saw the fox curled up on the sofa, engrossed in sketching clothes, and called out, “Baby, look what I brought back for you.”
“What is it?” Jiang Ningxun rubbed his messy hair, put down the sketches that were giving him a headache, and came over to rummage through the bags.
Inside were various tools for a stylist, such as hair styling equipment, assorted cosmetics, hair accessories, and several fashion magazines. Jiang Ningxun’s eyes lit up. He pulled out a disc with a gasp of surprise. “Ah! It is a limited edition documentary! I have tried to get this for so long but it was always sold out!”
“Husband, I love you to death!”
Jiang Ningxun gave his cheek a heavy kiss, then proceeded to give the documentary disc a dozen more.
This made Song Shidu feel a bit salty; if he had known, he would not have bought it.
Seeing that the little fox had missed the other two items, he pulled them out himself. “I have to go on a business trip soon. I will not be by your side then, so I bought these two for your self-defense.”
“Ah, yes, mm-hmm!” Jiang Ningxun was already happily setting up the documentary to play, not even glancing at what they were.
Song Shidu sighed and placed the two items on the shoe rack. “I am putting them right by the door. Use them for emergencies if there is danger!”
“Okay, okay! Come watch this with me!”
“Coming.”
The memory was full of warmth.
Back in the present, Jiang Ningxun raised the pepper spray, ready to blast it out the door.
Then, another unexpected turn occurred. Though he could not see through the heavy door, he heard the man outside let out a scream of agony. Suddenly, the pulling force on the door vanished.
A person wrapped tightly from head to toe suddenly appeared before him. The individual’s face was covered so thoroughly that no features were visible, but beneath a pair of dark sunglasses, a burning gaze flickered briefly toward Jiang Ningxun, as if there were much to say.
Finally, the stranger left only one instruction in a low, muffled voice: “Call the police.”
Then, the door was slammed shut.
The view was cut off. In the next second, the sound of a violent beating drifted through the door. The sound of someone’s bones snapping was exceptionally chilling.
Jiang Ningxun was shaken to the core. Once he regained his senses, he immediately dialed the police.
When he tried to pick up a wooden stick to go out and help, the door would not open; it seemed to be held shut firmly from the outside.
Ten minutes later, the police arrived and quickly subdued the two madmen.
As Jiang Ningxun described the events to the officers, his eyes searched the corridor, but he could not find the kind stranger who had helped him.
He suddenly remembered. Was that person not the same “weirdo” he had seen from his window earlier, the one wrapped up so tightly?
An unrealistic thought crossed his mind: Had that person been watching over him just to ensure his safety? He shook it off. “Haha, that is probably impossible.”
Who was he?
Of course, finding out his identity would be a story for another time. That night, Jiang Ningxun did not sleep at all. The damaged door could not provide him with any sense of security, so instead of staying home, he spent the night at the police station.
He desperately wanted to tell Song Shidu about his terror and fear, but he could not. Song Shidu was exhausted from his business trip and was likely asleep; he did not want to disturb him.
He really missed his pheromones.
The next day, information came to light. It turned out the two attackers were mentally ill, literal “madmen killers.” They believed that Omegas were inherently bad, and any they saw on the street became their targets without reason. It was pure bad luck that they had found Jiang Ningxun.
Fine. It was truly a case of terrible luck.
However, before Jiang Ningxun could learn how the situation would be finalized, he received a phone call from the police. They wanted him to go to B City to testify for Song Shidu. To prove what? To prove that he was not the type of person to commit sexual misconduct while drunk.
“What?”
12:00 PM, B City Police Station.
The noisy environment was a chaotic stew of people crying, coarse cursing, and police officers trying to maintain order. Stepping inside felt like one’s head was about to explode.
In a corner of the room, Song Shidu sat quietly on a cold wooden chair. His body leaned forward slightly, his arms resting powerlessly on his knees. His fingers were interlaced, his knuckles white from the pressure.
The sunlight filtered through the mottled curtains, scattering over him in fragments, yet it could not dispel the thick gloom surrounding him. His lips were pressed into a thin, tight line, and his dark eyes were hidden beneath strands of hair.
He was angry, but no one could see it.
“Ah! Mama, why did this happen to me?”
A female Omega was sobbing hysterically, clutching the hand of an elderly woman. She looked pitiable, weeping like a pear blossom in the rain. Anyone seeing her without knowing the truth would instinctively side with her.
She was actually an employee of the hotel.
Her parents were present as well. Dressed in dusty clothes, they appeared to be migrant workers from the countryside, clearly not well-off.
As soon as they understood what had happened, they began hurling abuse at Song Shidu. “You beast! My child is still young! She just graduated and finally found a stable job! She has not even started a family yet, you, you, you!”
The woman nearly fainted from rage. Only after the police calmed her down did she manage to catch her breath.
She opened her mouth and demanded: “We want 500,000 yuan in compensation! If you marry my daughter, we can still negotiate. If not, you can spend the rest of your life in prison!”
Hearing this exorbitant demand, Song Shidu simply offered a cold smile and remained silent.
This was the situation: he had drunk far too much the previous night. As soon as he returned to his room, he had fallen into a deep sleep. When he woke up the next morning, he found a woman lying beside him, suppressing her sobs. She used the blanket to cover the marks on her body, looking at him with a face full of terror.
Song Shidu was groggy at the time and did not realize what was happening.
In the next second, he was accused of drunkenly and forcibly dragging her into the room to assault her.
“…”
And that was how they ended up at the police station for investigation. The incident had caused quite a stir; nearly a third of the local residents had already heard about it.
The employee’s name was Xiao Mei. Her home was in a rural village, and she had moved to the city to work just this year. She had only recently been appointed as a hotel housekeeper. Everything was going well until it was all ruined last night.
According to her description, she saw that Song Shidu was dead drunk. Out of the kindness of her heart, she tried to help him to his room. She was about to leave at the door when Song Shidu’s lust supposedly took over, and he dragged her inside, locking the door behind them.
She claimed she was just a weak woman who could not resist a powerful Alpha and was ultimately harmed.
By chance, the surveillance cameras were broken that day. It was impossible to verify the truth through footage, leaving only Xiao Mei’s personal account of the events.
