The Seductive Succubus Always Abandons After Playing (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 20.2
As the door opened, Pei Yingjue suddenly felt the apartment they looked at the other day seemed much dimmer. Did Su Yi truly like that place? Su Yi did not notice his thoughts. Holding his hand, he hurried up to the second floor, stopped at a room at the end of the hallway, and pushed the door open decisively. He did not even give Pei Yingjue a chance to feel nervous.
“Your family is not here?” Pei Yingjue asked, looking at the quiet house.
Su Yi raised an eyebrow. “You wanted them to be?”
Naturally not. Previously he was worried about being rude by coming empty-handed, but now other emotions were at play. Pei Yingjue did not answer.
“My brother moved me out when I was in middle school. He is usually not home, so it is just me and Auntie Mei,” Su Yi said, entering the room.
Bags and packages were already piled on the bed, packed in advance. “I told her I would handle it when I got back, but Auntie Mei is always like this,” Su Yi said helplessly as he checked the items.
There were quite a few things, all neatly organized. Fragile items were in hard cases, while clothes were in woven bags, looking orderly and thoughtful. This Auntie Mei truly cared for Su Yi.
Pei Yingjue looked around, noting the photos and trophies on the wooden shelves. They were behind glass, and a closer look revealed not a speck of dust. His gaze drifted down, stopping abruptly when it hit the bottom corner.
There sat a jade pendant carved with a phoenix. It was extremely similar to the one he had, but different from the sketches Su Qing had sent him. The sketches showed two dragons that complemented each other. What was this extra one?
Su Yi stood by the bed, watching Pei Yingjue through the reflection of the glass cabinet. He had specifically ordered the jade pendant to be taken out of its box and displayed prominently yesterday, just to test Pei Yingjue’s reaction. If the man was truly unaware, he would not react to the pendant. But clearly, things were heading toward the worst-case scenario. Su Yi pursed his lips.
“Want to know about which one? I will tell you.”
Suddenly, a hand draped over his shoulder. Pei Yingjue’s body stiffened as Su Yi’s beautiful face appeared in his vision. Su Yi was looking at him, his eyes sparkling as usual, seemingly without a trace of ulterior motives.
“I am looking at the medals,” Pei Yingjue said, shifting his gaze from the pendant to the first row of awards.
“Is that so?” Su Yi studied him, then smiled, starting to explain from the first medal. “This was from a robotics competition in middle school, third place. This one next to it is for racing.”
His finger traced row after row until it finally landed on the jade pendant. Pei Yingjue suddenly grabbed Su Yi’s finger. But that did not stop Su Yi’s words.
“This one was a gift from my brother for winning a tournament.”
“A tournament prize?” Pei Yingjue turned his head abruptly. “Wasn’t that jade pendant supposed to be a gift from the year you were born?”
Su Yi nodded. “Yes. My brother probably commissioned someone to carve it. Years ago, I always wanted a pendant just like his, but my parents never gave me one. I had actually almost forgotten about it over the last few years; I did not expect him to still remember.”
“The one your brother has, what is the design?” Pei Yingjue pressed.
“The one my brother has is carved with a single dragon.”
Pei Yingjue’s heart sank.
“I suspect the other one was also a dragon,” Su Yi continued. “Before I was born, the Su family sent over a pair of jade pendants. But I was weak and often sick back then, staying in the hospital for six months after birth. The family felt I could not handle such a heavy pattern, so they simply took them away.”
“Where is that jade pendant now?” An ominous suspicion formed in Pei Yingjue’s mind.
“It should still be with my parents?” Su Yi tilted his head and asked, “What is wrong?”
Pei Yingjue snapped back to reality and shook his head. “Nothing. I was just curious.”
It was a strange thing to say, as Pei Yingjue was not typically a curious person. No matter how seamless his words were, his expression had already betrayed him. Su Yi concluded that Pei Yingjue knew.
The two were busy from afternoon until nine in the evening before they finally finished moving into their new home and could catch their breath.
“I will cook,” Pei Yingjue said after ensuring everything was unpacked.
“I am too tired. Let us order takeout,” Su Yi said, collapsing onto the sofa.
Pei Yingjue frowned slightly; he believed takeout was unhealthy. Su Yi raised an eyebrow and patted the spot next to him. “Come on, rest for a day.”
Seeing Su Yi’s persistence, Pei Yingjue could only agree. He sat beside Su Yi, watching him skillfully open the app and place an order.
“Did you order takeout often before?” Pei Yingjue asked. He assumed a family of the Su family’s stature would have dedicated domestic staff.
Su Yi shook his head. “Of course not. But it would not be appropriate to ask the family to send food here.”
After ordering, Su Yi tossed his phone aside and leaned bonelessly against Pei Yingjue’s lap. “A-Ying, we even have a new home now, yet you have never told me about your family. I have practically told you all the dirty secrets of the nobility.”
Pei Yingjue’s gaze faltered. “There is nothing worth saying. It is all in the past.”
“I want to know you better,” Su Yi said, taking his hand and shaking it gently. He was skilled at acting spoiled.
In the past, Pei Yingjue would have shared parts of his history, but now he felt uncertain. What if he really was related to the Su family? Until he was sure, he did not want Su Yi to fall into a state of panic.
“Another day. Are you not tired today?” Pei Yingjue asked.
Su Yi looked at him quietly. For a fleeting second, Pei Yingjue thought Su Yi knew something, but just as he tried to look deeper, Su Yi let out a yawn.
“Then I will sleep for a bit. Wake me up later,” Su Yi mumbled, closing his eyes. He was clearly exhausted.
Pei Yingjue smiled softly and covered Su Yi’s eyes with his hand. “Okay.”
Dinner was simple. After a quick meal and washing up, they entered the same bedroom. Su Yi had brought his pillow to Pei Yingjue’s room first.
Late at night, the room was silent, save for steady breathing. Pei Yingjue held Su Yi, his expression solemn. Things could not continue in this chaotic state; he had to find out if he and Su Yi shared a blood relationship. He would go to a testing agency tomorrow.
Pei Yingjue reached into the nightstand drawer for nail clippers and carefully lifted Su Yi’s left hand.
The next morning, Pei Yingjue woke up early according to his biological clock. Su Yi was still fast asleep. After getting ready, Pei Yingjue leaned down to kiss Su Yi’s forehead.
“I am going to the lab,” he whispered.
“Mm,” Su Yi grunted, burying his head deeper into the covers.
Pei Yingjue patted Su Yi’s head before picking up a pre-hidden airtight bag. Inside were four or five nail clippings.
Click.
The moment the door closed, Su Yi opened his eyes. All traces of sleepiness vanished. He sat up abruptly, changed his clothes, and hurried downstairs.
Su Yi moved fast. When he got outside, Pei Yingjue had not gone far. He followed from a distance, noting the license plate of the taxi Pei Yingjue took. Instead of taking his own car, Su Yi hailed another taxi.
“Follow that car, please,” Su Yi said coldly.
[What are you doing?] 777 asked in confusion.
Su Yi did not answer. He kept his eyes fixed on the car ahead. It was not headed toward Morristy Academy. The taxi took several turns before finally stopping in front of a tall building. The company name on the exterior belonged to a genomics firm.
“You can stop here, thank you.” Su Yi placed a bill on the dashboard and stepped out.
Following him here made everything clear; there was no need to go inside.
“Pei Yingjue knows about this,” Su Yi told 777. “But he must have only found out recently. Otherwise, he would not be taking my nails for a paternity test.”
777 was silent for a long time before asking: [Then what do you plan to do?]
Su Yi looked at the skyscraper, his expression calm, like an outsider. “He will find out the results sooner or later. Do you think he will hide it from me?”
Before 777 could respond, Su Yi already had the answer. “He will.”
The results from the agency came quickly. Pei Yingjue had the report in his hands within a week. The few thin pages felt light enough to ignore, yet he stared at them for a long time. Just as he seemed to turn into a statue, he flipped to the first page.
The result was clear: he and Su Yi shared no biological relationship.
It was just a simple line of bold text, but Pei Yingjue stood frozen for a long while before finally letting out a long breath. There was no need to read the rest. He closed the report, though his expression remained heavy.
If he and Su Yi were not related, how could this be explained? Was Su Yi truly disliked by the Su family only because of his pheromones? Pei Yingjue gripped the report tightly.
The bitter times in the orphanage and the items suddenly sent to him after the orphanage closed made him certain: he was a child abandoned by his biological parents. Could his jade pendant have been stolen by someone else? But who would give a stolen pendant to an unrelated child? Was the pendant fake? No, he had secretly had it appraised.
People hurried past him in the hallway. Pei Yingjue asked himself questions and refuted them one by one. Until one theory became increasingly clear. He closed his eyes and leaned his head against the cold wall.
For the first time in his life, Pei Yingjue hated his own ability to think.
Why? Why did they choose another child and then treat him poorly? Was he supposed to coldly march up to those parents and throw their things back at them? And what about Su Yi? What would happen to Su Yi?
“Sir? Sir?” A passing staff member patted his shoulder. “Do you need help?”
Pei Yingjue opened his eyes and shook his head at the kind stranger. The staff member had no choice but to leave, though she looked back several times with concern. This man had been sitting there for nearly two hours without moving. She thought he was ill, but when he opened his eyes, he did not look sick.
Just as she thought she was overthinking, the man stood up so abruptly that he staggered before steadying himself and looking down at the report.
Rip!
The snow-white paper was tossed into the trash. The lid spun around and around, finally sealing everything away.
“This is everything I found.”
Hai Tingyan pushed a stack of documents toward Su Yi, looking as if he were seeking credit. “I even gathered all the reports related to the orphanage where that guy named Pei stayed.”
Su Yi scanned the documents. “Mm.”
“How did he actually offend you?” Hai Tingyan asked curiously.
Su Yi flipped through the files without looking up. “It is nothing. I just do not want to get caught up in trouble.”
“Trouble?” Hai Tingyan laughed. “That makes sense. Your illness is almost cured anyway. Do not let a low-class person like him cling to you.”
Su Yi did not reply. He focused on the reports.
Three months after the birth of their young master, the Su family had sponsored the orphanage where Pei Yingjue stayed as an act of prayer for their son. When Pei Yingjue was five years old, he was adopted by Li Shun. Li Shun had no background; he was an alcoholic who died one night after collapsing drunk on the road eight years after the adoption. Such a man should have never been able to adopt a child.
Su Yi flipped through the pages again and finally found a local report in a small section. It read: “Sponsored by a benefactor, a 100,000 yuan subsidy will be given to anyone who adopts a child.”
Three days after that was published, Li Shun adopted Pei Yingjue. A year later, the orphanage closed down and disappeared from the news entirely.
The financial records of the orphanage were also strange. Eight years after Pei Yingjue was adopted, the defunct orphanage suddenly reappeared in the news, sending “time gifts” to the children who had stayed there. A small section of the local paper mentioned this, featuring a prize-winning essay from a child adopted by a family of teachers. That child had also stayed at the Sunlight Orphanage.
That same year, the old director of the orphanage died of an illness. That was the last report regarding the orphanage.
Hai Tingyan had been thorough; he even found the list of children from the orphanage back then. Su Yi scanned it. There were 120 children in the orphanage that year, but only 119 names were on the list.
“There is a child missing from the list,” Su Yi said, pushing it back.
Hai Tingyan glanced at it. “That is normal. This orphanage was not regulated, and the location was remote. A child might have simply gone missing.”
In short, one child more or less was not a big deal. But why was exactly one missing? Why was the date of this list the day after the Su parents left? Why was this private document so easily found by Hai Tingyan?
Too many coincidences ceased to be coincidences.
“If you ask me, that Pei guy is a jinx. The orphanage closed shortly after he left, and his adoptive father died after taking him in. Tsk, A-Yi, you are right to distance yourself from him,” Hai Tingyan said gleefully.
Su Yi tossed the documents onto the table and leaned back against the sofa. Su Yi must have put in a lot of effort to gather all this for him to see. Seeing that Su Yi did not argue, Hai Tingyan’s eyes lit up. He thought Su Yi was completely bored of Pei Yingjue.
“I say, A-Yi, once you are cured, just break up with him. You will be even, and it will save him from bothering you again.”
Su Yi lowered his gaze.
[003]
“If I do not break up with him, what do you think Su Yi will do?” Su Yi said to 777 in his mind. “He put all of this in front of me to show that he has chosen me as his brother, not Pei Yingjue. Would Su Yi tolerate a living piece of evidence that could expose everything at any time? Besides, your Judge A11 set this up because he wants me to break up with Pei Yingjue too.” Su Yi smiled, though there was no mirth in his eyes. “How can I let so many people down?”
777 felt somewhat breathless.
“Of course, breaking up is not enough.”
[Not enough?] 777’s heart jumped.
“Pei Yingjue must also be recognized by the Su family,” Su Yi said. “That is the only way he can live safely in A City.”
[Then what about you?] 777 asked.
“Me?” Su Yi chuckled. “That is not important. What matters is what your Judge is actually testing me on. I suspect he is testing whether I can be faithful and sincere like a person with normal moral standards. His methods are just too extreme. Though, it is indeed a test.”
777 was silent for a long time before making a mechanical sobbing sound. [003, you have grown. You are starting to show remorse.]
Su Yi ignored the crying and continued his plan. “I intend to help Pei Yingjue be recognized by the Su family, then leave quietly myself. Is that deep and faithful enough?”
[It definitely is!] 777 agreed immediately. It had shifted from a pained father watching a child go astray to a mindless follower of 003. [Then where do you plan to go?]
Su Yi opened his phone. The Morristy Academy forum was discussing applications for the military district.
[You plan to]
“Mm-hmm,” Su Yi said. “The military district is on the same level as the Alliance; Su Yi’s reach cannot extend there. Also, applications for the military district are confidential. The list of names is only publicized after the results are confirmed.”
777 was delighted. [This is a perfect opportunity!]
Su Yi nodded with satisfaction. “Next, I just need to minimize the hurt to Pei Yingjue during the breakup.”
As he spoke, 777 immediately played an audio clip of applause. [003, the probability of a Happy Ending will definitely reach 100% this time!]
“Of course.” Su Yi tossed the file onto the table.
Across from him, Hai Tingyan’s eyes lit up, staring at him intently.
