- Chapter 20.1 - Fake Young Master Alpha x Real Young Master Alpha (20)
“Little Master, I will take you to the CEO’s office.”
As soon as Su Yi entered the company, the receptionist greeted him with a smile, looking as though she had been waiting for a long time. Su Yi smiled back, pushing the milk tea in his hand across the counter.
“Thank you, sister.”
The receptionist glanced at him in surprise, then chuckled and accepted it with a shake of her head. Su Yi followed her to the elevator, watching as she swiped her card. As the glass elevator ascended rapidly, the scenery blurred before his eyes until it came to a stop. Looking around, he noticed no one looked up; it seemed Su Yi followed strict management. Without a word, the receptionist led him straight to the office.
“We are here.”
“Thank you.”
Once she left, Su Yi looked at the closed door. The blinds were drawn, making it impossible to see inside. Since Su Yi had arranged to meet at the office, he figured he would not try anything. Taking a deep breath, Su Yi pushed the door open.
The office was well-lit and minimalist, allowing him to see the entire layout at a glance. It was empty. Su Yi was not there. Su Yi frowned and was about to message Su Yi when his gaze was caught by a document on the desk. It was a paternity test report, placed facing him as if intentionally left for him to see.
Su Yi stared at the report and closed the door. He wanted to see what kind of mystery Su Yi was trying to play. He stepped forward and flipped open the file. The words on the page froze him in place.
“Based on the results of this DNA test, excluding identical multiples, close relatives, and external interference, the results support a biological relationship between Pei Yingjue and Su Wenzhang.”
Pei Yingjue and Su Wenzhang?
Su Yi’s brow furrowed in disbelief. He flipped through the report so violently that two photos fell out. He looked down at them. They were two similar jade pendants that looked like they could be joined together. They were very similar to the birthday gift Su Yi had given him, but the pattern was different. The pendants in the photo fit together to form a “Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl” design, whereas the one Su Yi gave him clearly did not.
When Su Yi reached the end of the report, he found the appraisal between himself and Father Su.
“Excludes a biological relationship between Su Yi and Su Wenzhang,” Su Yi read the result softly.
[Following your brother’s request, you came to the office only to find something unbelievable in the empty room: you are not a biological child of the Su family. Even more surprising, Pei Yingjue shares a blood relationship with Father Su.]
[You were born on the same year, month, and day. He carries the jade pendant you could never get. The truth seems to have surfaced. At this moment, you choose to:]
-
- A. Seek Su Yi’s help
-
- B. Confess to Pei Yingjue
-
- C. Hide it from Pei Yingjue
“Ha?”
Su Yi laughed out of sheer anger. What was this supposed to mean? Between the reports, the photos, and the system prompts, everything was glaringly guiding him to one conclusion: he and Pei Yingjue had swapped lives.
Pei Yingjue was the real young master of the Su family, and he was an impostor who had occupied that position for nineteen years. This cliché “True vs. Fake Young Master” script had actually dropped onto his head! So, the identical birthdays and the system’s hint about the jade pendant when Su Yi gave him the gift were not coincidences or nonsense. They were actually warnings!
“Does that bullshit Judge of yours have a fetish for this?” Su Yi was so livid he nearly fainted, lashing out at System 777.
[Ah! How can you speak ill of the Judge! He is watching!] 777 shrieked.
Su Yi sneered. “I hope he is watching. Even this kind of melodramatic plot is being dragged in? Your Judgment Court is truly finished!”
Su Yi slammed the file onto the table, turned around, and glanced at the corner of the ceiling. Then, he pushed open the door and left without looking back.
[003! 003! You have not even seen Su Yi yet!] 777 called out urgently.
By the time he stepped out of the office building, Su Yi’s expression had calmed, as if his previous anger had never existed.
“He will not come,” Su Yi sneered. “He never intended to see me. He intentionally left that information out for me to find.”
[Why would he do that?]
Su Yi did not respond. Instead, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Hello, A-Yi?”
The call was answered quickly, and Hai Tingyan’s surprised voice came through the speaker.
“Help me investigate Pei Yingjue. I want everything, the more detailed the better,” Su Yi said sternly.
Hai Tingyan paused, his voice turning cheerful. “Did he mess with you? Do not worry, I will definitely check him out thoroughly for you. I guarantee it will be fast and accurate.”
“Mm.”
The call ended.
[Are you not afraid Hai Tingyan will find out? What if he leaks it?] 777 was incredibly nervous.
Su Yi remained indifferent. He looked back at the skyscraper.
“There is no chance of a leak,” Su Yi said calmly. “Since Su Yi placed the results so blatantly in front of me, he wants me to investigate it myself. Anything I find will only be what he wants me to see and what he knows I can understand. Let us go home. I need to confirm if Pei Yingjue knows about this first.”
With one last look, Su Yi turned and walked away. His silhouette grew smaller until it vanished.
High above, Su Yi watched this scene from the window. He still remembered the first time he saw Su Yi. He had personally gone to the orphanage to pick the child; he was as thin as a kitten.
After his mother gave birth to the “younger brother,” the doctor diagnosed the infant’s glands: a defective Alpha, unlikely to live long. At the time, the Su family was embroiled in a PR crisis, with many eyes waiting to drag them down. Announcing a scentless Alpha would only bring more negative press.
His father came up with a plan. They claimed the infant was weak and needed observation in the hospital. While the news was locked down, his father used the excuse of sponsoring the Sunlight Orphanage to quietly swap the child.
Coincidentally, that was the first time Su Yi involved himself in Su family affairs, not by his parents’ will, but by threatening them with their own interests. His reason? No reason, really. He was just starting middle school and wanted to make his parents miserable.
Out of all the children in the orphanage, he picked Su Yi at a glance because he was the only one crying loudly. Picking a disobedient child would make life harder for his parents. But Su Yi did not end up tormenting the parents; he tormented Su Yi first.
As soon as Su Yi arrived home, he fell seriously ill with a persistent high fever. This unexpectedly matched the story his father had told the public. Since the parents did not care for this fake son, the “hot potato” was tossed to Su Yi.
Most sick children are too exhausted to make a fuss, but Su Yi was different. Even with a high fever, his cries were piercing, waking Su Yi up several times a night. Standing in the hospital room, Su Yi even thought: maybe it is better if he just burns up.
But Su Yi did not die. After two months of struggle, he recovered completely, though his glands were ruined, leaving him without pheromones. By then, six months had passed since the supposed birth of the young master. A reporter managed to sneak into the hospital and expose Su Yi’s information. With millions of eyes on them, the Su family had no choice but to officially claim the child.
This made the parents hate Su Yi even more. Ultimately, he was raised by Su Yi; even his name was given by him. Why did he keep him around? Su Yi’s gaze darkened. Perhaps out of boredom, like keeping a pet.
But unexpectedly, as Su Yi grew, he became clingy. When he first learned to walk, he would follow Su Yi everywhere, crying for “Brother” if he was not held. It was a nuisance. By then, Su Yi had already skipped grades to enter the Imperial Academy and started managing company affairs. He was too busy for Su Yi. When he returned home, he found the child throwing a tantrum. Scarcely taller than Su Yi’s knees, the boy went on a hunger strike just because he could not see his brother. By the time Su Yi found out, the kid was nearly fainting from hunger.
After that, Su Yi started coming home more often. When Su Yi reached middle school, his personality suddenly changed. He began to distance himself and spoke harshly. The little boy who would starve himself for his brother’s attention vanished. Su Yi investigated and found people had been gossiping about Su Yi’s glands. He dealt with every single one of them. But Su Yi’s attitude never shifted back.
Until now. Su Yi was still his brother, after all.
Back then, to spite his parents, Su Yi had secretly hidden a jade pendant and a card at the orphanage. He had not expected it to become a landmine for Su Yi. Tsk. But it was a brother’s duty to handle everything. As long as Su Yi personally ended things with Pei Yingjue, Su Yi would ensure no one else ever knew. Su Yi would remain his brother and the young master of the Su family.
As for Pei Yingjue? That man could never appear in Su Yi’s world again. He did not believe in blood. He, Su Yi, only had one brother.
“Xiao Jue, why did you bully the other children?”
The orphanage auntie scolded him gently, shielding a child behind her who was making faces at Pei Yingjue. As soon as the auntie turned around, the child pretended to cry. Pei Yingjue knew he was dreaming. He did not understand why he was dreaming of something so long ago.
It was a trivial matter, less significant in the orphanage than a child wetting the bed. It was just the other children calling him a “defective” or a “cripple” again. When the teacher arrived, they would cry first to claim the moral high ground and pin the blame on him. Looking back, their acting was clumsy, but the teacher always believed them.
“Tonight, you will eat standing in the yard,” the teacher announced the punishment before carrying the fake-crying child inside to comfort him.
It must have been winter. The orphanage was poor, and without many sponsors, their clothes were thin. Usually, they had to huddle in a circle around the stove to stay warm. The yard was bound to be freezing. Pei Yingjue could not remember if he actually went; the dream did not tell him.
“Xiao Jue, come quick, someone is here to adopt you.”
The scene shifted. A man looked down at him, his rough fingers rubbing against his wrinkled trousers. Seeing him come out, the man looked at the head teacher and gave a flattering smile, revealing yellow teeth.
“Is it true what you said about the 100,000 subsidy for adopting a child?” the man asked, rubbing his hands.
The teacher’s expression flickered. She pushed Pei Yingjue toward the man and hissed, “The investors do not want us talking about that. Once the one-month probation period is over, go to the backyard and find the director for it.”
The man was overjoyed. “Understood, understood.”
From leaving the orphanage to entering the dilapidated, alcohol-scented house, no one looked at Pei Yingjue.
“You! Go buy me some liquor!”
Once home, Li Shun changed completely. He shouted at Pei Yingjue, tossing a few coins that stung as they hit him. Pei Yingjue did not pick them up; he stared at Li Shun with hatred. Even in the dream, he wanted to tear Li Shun apart. After getting the money, Li Shun spent it all within half a month. Once the money was gone, Pei Yingjue became a burden. Beatings and scoldings were the least of it. The man would even force him to beg on the streets. If he was disobedient, Li Shun would dislocate his arm to make it look real before tying him up and dragging him out.
“Go!”
Li Shun kicked him hard.
What followed was not pain, but a box pushed toward him at a hospital bedside. Pei Yingjue looked at the hand, withered and wrinkled over bone, holding a locked iron box. The hand was trembling under the weight.
“Someone left this for you. The password is your birthday,” said the white-haired elderly man.
Pei Yingjue remembered this day: the day after Li Shun was declared dead. Someone had found him, saying the old orphanage director had kept something for him. But he had arrived at the orphanage with nothing and left the same way; he should not have had anything worth keeping for years. It was left by the parents who abandoned him.
Pei Yingjue knew what was inside without opening it: a jade pendant proving his identity and a card with a password written on the back. He had checked at the bank once; the amount was enough to last a lifetime. At the time, he was about to start higher education and had no money. It was a godsend, yet also a bolt from the blue. He had already found a way to live; why disrupt his life a second time?
Pei Yingjue could not help but hate the couple who abandoned him. Why leave these things now just to act sentimental? Even in the dream, he did not want to accept it.
The scene shifted abruptly. Su Yi stood before him, his expression colder than ever. In his hand, he held the jade pendant Pei Yingjue knew all too well. Pei Yingjue froze as a bone-chilling cold spread from his feet.
“Let us break up, Pei Yingjue.”
“Why?” Pei Yingjue heard himself ask.
With a look of disgust, Su Yi threw the pendant at him. “You want to be with your own biological brother? How disgusting.”
Pei Yingjue was stunned. He only saw Su Yi’s hateful gaze as he turned to leave. The dropped pendant hit the floor and shattered into pieces. He wanted to chase him, but in the dream, he was nailed to the spot, forced to watch Su Yi’s figure fade away.
“Pei Yingjue?”
“A-Ying?”
Pei Yingjue snapped awake. The curtains were half-drawn, and the light coming in was not harsh. He quickly recognized the person sitting by the bed. Su Yi frowned slightly, looking at him with concern.
“What is wrong? A nightmare? I have been calling you for a long time.”
When Su Yi had returned, he saw the man on the bed with a furrowed brow. A nightmare? Seeing Pei Yingjue’s shaken state, Su Yi felt suspicious. Suddenly, Pei Yingjue sat up and pulled him into a hug before he could react. His back was squeezed so hard he could barely breathe. He patted Pei Yingjue gently.
“So passionate. Do you want a morning kiss?”
“Su Yi,” Pei Yingjue suddenly spoke.
“I am here,” Su Yi replied, burying his face in the crook of the other’s neck.
Hearing the familiar voice, Pei Yingjue’s racing heart finally began to settle. He held Su Yi tightly. The warmth of the embrace gradually steadied him. Pei Yingjue’s brow remained tight. He had to investigate everything. He could not allow Su Yi to be with him in a way that was improper.
“When is your heat cycle going to end?” Su Yi muttered.
“How is it?” Pei Yingjue asked.
Su Yi played with his hair. “Let us go look at apartments together. After we finish looking, I want to move all my things out of the Su house.”
“Move out?” At the thought of Su Yi’s brother, Pei Yingjue felt a surge of displeasure and did not want Su Yi going back there. “Move out for what?”
Su Yi raised an eyebrow at the subtle tone but continued to tease. “To live with you, of course. I want to move in.”
Pei Yingjue was stunned. Su Yi actually considered this place home. Looking at the eager boy, Pei Yingjue pushed his doubts aside for a moment. “We will go this afternoon?”
Su Yi’s eyes lit up. He hooked his arms around Pei Yingjue’s neck and gave him a loud “mwah” on the cheek. “I love you, A-Ying.”
Pei Yingjue’s body stiffened. It took a long moment before he gently patted Su Yi’s waist. That was all. No return kiss, no reply.
Su Yi glanced at him imperceptibly but did not demand more as he usually did. Both had things on their minds. They did not spend much time looking at apartments before making a decision. The day after signing the contract, Su Yi dragged Pei Yingjue out of the lab. Even as he sat in the passenger seat, Pei Yingjue had not quite processed it.
“What is the rush?” Pei Yingjue’s heart raced.
Su Yi started the car and glanced over with a smirk. “Moving things from the Su house. I want to stay in the new home starting tonight.”
“You like that place?”
“Mm-hmm.”
The car sped off, the scenery outside flashing by like missing frames in a film. One looked out the window, the other looked ahead; both were deep in thought, yet neither noticed the other’s heavy expression.
Finally reaching the Su residence, it was the first time Pei Yingjue stepped into Su Yi’s territory to enter his life. It should have been a moment to understand each other better, but under the current circumstances, it only stirred complex emotions.
“Let us go. No one is home; I specifically gave them the day off yesterday,” Su Yi said naturally as he led Pei Yingjue inside.
