- Chapter 17 - The Fake Young Master Alpha x The Real Young Master Alpha (17)
“Have you two finished talking yet?”
Hai Tingyan had not actually left. He stood in the distance, watching their intimate display, nearly grinding his teeth to dust.
“I am leaving now then. Remember our agreement,” Su Yi said as he straightened up and bid farewell to Pei Yingjue.
“Mm,” Pei Yingjue responded.
Until Su Yi left, Pei Yingjue did not give Hai Tingyan a single glance.
After Su Yi departed, the dessert area became much quieter. Fortunately, Su Qing returned shortly after.
“This small talk is truly exhausting. I still dislike this environment,” Su Qing muttered, quickly drinking a glass of juice.
Pei Yingjue handed her a tissue.
Su Qing took it and asked, “Did you give him the gift?”
“Not yet.”
Su Qing was surprised. She did not think Pei Yingjue would be this timid.
“He asked me to give it to him after the party ends,” Pei Yingjue said, his tone involuntarily tilting upward.
“Oh?” Su Qing could not help but laugh softly. “Alright, I see. The iron tree has blossomed and the glacier has finally melted.”
Pei Yingjue let Su Qing tease him.
The two stood together discussing lab related matters when suddenly the lights dimmed and the music stopped. Pei Yingjue looked up to see the spotlights converging on the second floor.
As the large doors opened, two figures stepped out. One was Su Yi, whose white suit perfectly outlined his broad shoulders and narrow waist. Beside him stood another man, tall and imposing, with his hair combed meticulously. He exuded the natural majesty of a ruler. He also wore a white suit of the same style as Su Yi’s.
“Su Yi,” Su Qing noted, referring to the elder brother.
Pei Yingjue frowned slightly.
The elder Su Yi reached out a hand, palm upward. The younger Su Yi looked down for a moment before placing his hand lightly in the palm.
Pei Yingjue’s eyelid flickered.
Soothing music began to play as the two, dressed in matching suits, descended the spiral staircase under the gaze of the crowd. They walked toward the twelve layer cake on the first floor. The elder Su Yi held his brother’s hand and stepped forward. His indifferent eyes scanned the room, meeting Pei Yingjue’s gaze for a fleeting second as he passed the dessert area.
In that single second, Pei Yingjue felt the instinctive danger of a fellow hunter. However, the elder brother moved his gaze quickly, as if the eye contact had been purely coincidental.
“Thank you all for taking the time to attend my brother’s birthday party. The Su family and I will remember this kindness. Perhaps most are here because of the Su name, but please, focus your attention on tonight’s protagonist.”
After a brief and polite speech, the elder Su Yi looked at his brother, his coldness softening into a touch of warmth. “You have experienced scenes like this since childhood. In any case, Su Yi, whatever you want to do, the Su family and I will clear the path for you.”
He produced a red gift box and held it out to Su Yi.
“Open it.”
Under the bright lights, Su Yi opened the box.
“How could he?” Su Qing whispered in astonishment.
Pei Yingjue suddenly gripped his wine glass.
The guests fell silent for a moment. Inside the box lay a ring. This ring symbolized the power of the Su family. The elder brother wore one, and this was an exact replica. Giving a replica that was indistinguishable from the original to Su Yi was practically a proclamation to the entire Empire: there is another ruler in the Su family named Su Yi.
Even though he was a flawed Alpha without pheromones.
Su Yi’s hand paused.
The elder brother unconcernedly hooked the silver chain through the ring and stepped closer. In front of everyone, he personally placed the necklace around Su Yi’s neck.
“Let us cut the cake,” the elder Su Yi said, his voice lifting slightly as he watched the ring rest against his brother’s chest.
“Thank you, Brother,” Su Yi said, touching the cold ring. He took the knife and made the first cut into the magnificent cake.
Instantly, confetti exploded and fireworks lit up the sky outside. After a few polite words and a hug for his parents, the formal celebration ended.
The guests resumed their conversations. Pei Yingjue stayed outside the crowd, watching Su Yi and his brother toast and chat with guests together. They looked like a newlywed couple. It was an eyesore for Pei Yingjue, making the food in front of him lose its taste.
Their table was small with only four people and was positioned far away. When the Su brothers eventually approached, Su Qing had to nudge him before Pei Yingjue looked up, meeting Su Yi’s worried eyes. The necklace that had been hanging outside was now tucked into his shirt with only the chain visible at his neck.
“Miss Su,” the elder Su Yi greeted.
“It has been a long time,” Su Qing replied politely.
“You are friends invited by Xiao Yi. If anything is not to your taste, just say so,” the elder brother said, raising a glass to Su Qing.
Su Qing replied, “Everything is quite good.”
The elder brother nodded and turned his gaze to Pei Yingjue. “And this is?”
“This is my friend, Pei Yingjue,” Su Yi interjected quickly.
The elder brother acted as if he had just realized, raising his glass to Pei Yingjue. “My apologies for the poor hospitality; I have not heard much about Xiao Yi’s friends. Is the food to your liking?”
“Yes.”
Pei Yingjue gave a short response. The elder brother said nothing more and reached out to clink glasses with him. The crisp sound was piercing. As Pei Yingjue moved to raise his glass, another glass inserted itself between them.
“You forgot about me,” Su Yi squeezed between the two and looked at Pei Yingjue.
Seeing Su Yi, Pei Yingjue’s irritation faded slightly. “I did not forget.” He clinked his glass with Su Yi’s before taking a sip.
“It is time to go, Su Yi,” the elder brother said calmly.
“Mm.” After finishing his drink, Su Yi turned and winked at Pei Yingjue, silently mouthing words.
“Wait for me.”
That light sentence sent a surge of restlessness through Pei Yingjue. He watched Su Yi disappear back into the crowd and shook his head slightly. It feels like an affair, he thought with a soft sigh.
After finishing the last toast, Su Yi suddenly spoke. “Brother, let us talk.”
The elder brother’s expression was calm as if he had expected this. “We should indeed talk.”
The two headed toward the third floor terrace. Passing the kitchen, Su Yi paused. “I want to drink the sweet soup Aunt Mei makes,” Su Yi said, his voice sounding a bit low.
The elder brother glanced at him and then at Aunt Mei working in the kitchen but ultimately said nothing. Taking this as silent permission, Su Yi entered the kitchen.
“Young Master!” Aunt Mei whispered in surprise.
Su Yi scanned the kitchen and then gave her a smile. “Aunt Mei, can you help me with something later?”
The terrace was empty. A folder lay on the black wooden table. The elder Su Yi walked over and tapped the edge of the table.
“Brother, this is my treatment report. I want to talk to you about my illness,” Su Yi said.
The elder brother’s eyes darkened. “You want to continue the treatment relationship with Pei Yingjue?”
Seeing that he did not open the file, Su Yi stepped forward to open it himself. “I must continue the relationship with him.”
The elder brother looked down at the report. It clearly detailed the risks and dangers of changing treatment partners at this stage. He had already investigated this and knew it in even greater detail than this report showed.
“I will find the best doctors in the Empire for you,” the elder brother said, closing the file. “I will have someone reschedule the frequency and timing so you do not miss your final screening. After today, you move back home. I will handle the school curriculum and group changes; you just need to focus on recovery.”
He believed his brother had simply been misled into making this choice and that there was still a chance to correct it. “As for Pei Yingjue, there is no need for you to see him again.”
This was the expected response. Su Yi watched his brother’s unyielding expression and sighed inwardly. He was a carbon copy of their father’s stubbornness. He had to use his alternative plan.
“I do not accept.”
The elder brother frowned. “This is not the time for your willful behavior.”
“Is that so?” Su Yi gave a self deprecating laugh.
The elder brother sensed something was wrong but before he could react, a cold glint flashed. Su Yi had somehow concealed a small knife and was now pointing it directly at his own gland.
“Su Yi!” his brother barked, stepping forward.
Su Yi did not stop, pressing the blade closer. The elder brother froze. He looked at Su Yi’s determined expression and after many years, worry and anger flared in his heart simultaneously.
“Put the knife down,” he ordered, his brow locked tight.
“Brother, I want you to agree to my proposal. I want to maintain the treatment relationship with Pei Yingjue until I am cured,” Su Yi said stubbornly.
At these words, the elder brother’s anger spiked. He laughed out of sheer fury. “Su Yi, you are threatening me with self harm over a special admission student? I did not know he had enchanted you to the point that you would hurt yourself just to stay with him.”
The elder brother was fuming, but Su Yi’s expression crumpled, turning into one of grievance.
“For him?” Su Yi looked at his brother incredulously. “He and I are nothing but contract partners. Why would I go to such lengths for him?”
The elder brother frowned. “Then who is it for?”
Su Yi’s voice caught and his eyes slowly turned red. “It is for you!”
The shout, filled with accumulated resentment, stunned the elder brother.
“For me?”
Su Yi’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he choked out the words. “I do not want that kind of relationship with you. I do not want people to gossip and I do not want them to talk behind your back. I am afraid. I am afraid that if this continues, you will see me as a burden. I worked so hard in the league just to keep up with you, to stand beside you. I do not want to be under you in that way. I want to be your brother for the rest of my life; I do not want it ruined by this.”
Tears began to fall. “Brother, I do not want to destroy our relationship. I am begging you.”
The wind blew, scattering the reports across the ground. The fake blood relation they had manufactured to give Su Yi a better life had become a chasm separating them.
“If this is going to destroy our relationship,” Su Yi looked up, his eyes firm, “then I would rather not have a gland at all.”
He raised the knife suddenly. The elder brother’s heart sank and he lunged forward.
In the hall, Pei Yingjue had not moved from his seat for a long time. Su Yi had disappeared since the dance started. He knew nothing about dancing and Su Qing had found an acquaintance to talk to, so he had been sitting there alone.
Su Yi was truly making him wait. But he then thought that perhaps Su Yi had also waited for him like this before and his impatience faded. Waiting had become something that made him happy.
Just then, a woman walked up to him with a phone. She asked tentatively, “Are you the young master’s friend? Surname Pei?”
Pei Yingjue looked at her as she checked her phone and asked, “I am. What happened?”
The woman breathed a sigh of relief. “I am a housekeeper here. The young master said for you to go to the third-floor terrace now. He is waiting for you there.”
