- Chapter 16 - Fake Young Master Alpha x Real Young Master Alpha (16)
Su Yi’s birthday party was held at the private estate of the Su family.
As expected of one of the four great families, the estate was so crowded with luxury cars that the grounds were nearly impassable. Pei Yingjue arrived with Su Qing; both had been invited personally by Su Yi, independent of their family ties. After confirming their invitations with the receptionist at the gate, Pei Yingjue and Su Qing entered the venue together.
Under the warm yellow lights, a crowd of successful middle-aged professionals stood with wine glasses in hand, conversing with one another. Looking around, there were hardly any peers of Su Yi’s age to be found.
“Su Yi’s brother, Su Yi, probably organized this entire thing,” Su Qing remarked.
Pei Yingjue paused for a moment before realizing this must be the older brother Su Yi had mentioned. Their names were remarkably similar.
“Su Yi just became the Vice Chairman of the Alliance this year. Most people here are likely showing up for his sake. Let us wait over there,” Su Qing said, heading toward the dessert area.
The area was relatively quiet. Pei Yingjue followed her and watched as she fanned the air in front of her nose with a look of distaste. “The air is much fresher over here.”
It was a simple joke. Pei Yingjue glanced at his surroundings; this was not what he had imagined.
“This sort of thing is quite common,” Su Qing said indifferently. “Sometimes, what the child actually likes does not matter.”
Pei Yingjue frowned slightly. He looked at his phone; his chat with Su Yi still ended with the message he had sent a minute ago: “I am here.” Likely too busy, Su Yi had not replied.
“Miss Su?”
A young woman looked their way. Pei Yingjue saw Su Qing’s expression stiffen for a split second before she put on a polite smile. “Long time no see.”
“I am going to chat for a bit,” Su Qing whispered.
“Mn.”
After Su Qing left, Pei Yingjue was left alone at the dessert station. He felt somewhat out of place in this environment. Scanning the desserts before him, he wondered: Did Su Yi choose any of these himself?
He had no positive feelings toward the Empire’s nobility; in fact, he loathed them. The feeling intensified when he realized that among this crowd, there might be those who had abandoned him.
“Pei Yingjue!”
A soft, hurried shout broke his thoughts. The gloom in Pei Yingjue’s eyes vanished instantly. He looked up to see Su Yi poking his head out from a doorway near the hall, waving at him.
Su Yi was wearing a white suit. His soft black hair had been styled into small, elegant curls, making him look both mature and youthful. Just as Pei Yingjue took a step forward, he noticed others had spotted Su Yi as well. A wave of people immediately surged toward the door, and Su Yi’s figure was quickly swallowed by the crowd.
Flattery and greetings rose from the throng. Pei Yingjue remained standing outside the circle. I will wait a little longer, he thought.
“Excuse me.”
Su Yi smiled and nodded to those around him. Then, with an undeniable air of authority, he flexibly squeezed through the crowd and walked to Pei Yingjue’s side, leaning against him.
“Uncle Chen, weren’t you asking me about our project for the League? The core technology for that project mostly relies on my classmate here, Pei Yingjue. He is an S-rank Alpha and ranked first in the League results.”
As Su Yi spoke, he lightly nudged the person beside him. Pei Yingjue understood his intent immediately. His heart softened as he looked at the middle-aged man holding a wine glass and spoke politely, “Hello, I am Pei Yingjue.”
Uncle Chen was forced to look at the youth beside Su Yi. He scrutinized him, processing the underlying meaning of this introduction. Su Yi’s brother was in charge of the League this year, and since this boy was on Su Yi’s team, perhaps he was a protégé selected by the older brother.
Not daring to delay, Uncle Chen quickly offered several polite platitudes that made Pei Yingjue’s skin crawl. Su Yi, however, seemed unfazed. He smiled and pulled Pei Yingjue through the crowd. “Would any of you like to hear the details of our project?”
Faced with Su Yi’s question, several prominent figures looked at one another. Even if they were not interested, the thought of his older brother being Su Yi made them endure their impatience. They smiled and agreed.
Thus, Pei Yingjue was led by Su Yi from one group to another, circling the entire room. After finally pitching to most of the guests, the two finally broke away from the crowd.
“My throat is so dry from talking,” Su Yi muttered, gulping down a glass of fruit tea.
Pei Yingjue looked down at his flushed cheeks. “Why did you introduce me to so many people?”
“You are going to enter the Alliance eventually,” Su Yi said matter-of-factly. “It is better to let them see you first.”
Looking at Su Yi’s nonchalant expression, Pei Yingjue understood his intentions perfectly. “But you did not tell them that I am not a normal Alpha.”
“But you will be sooner or later. At least, you certainly will be before you enter the Alliance,” Su Yi said decisively.
Pei Yingjue watched Su Yi and suddenly asked, “What if I still do not know anyone by then?”
Su Yi tilted his head and smiled. “Then you can beg me. Maybe I will take you around then.”
Seeing this, Pei Yingjue’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “When can I give you my gift?”
Su Yi thought for a moment. “After this is over. I will take you to the real birthday party.”
After this meant it would be just the two of them. Pei Yingjue much preferred being alone with Su Yi. “Fine.”
“A-Yi!”
A black figure came running toward them. The first thing Pei Yingjue noticed was a shock of bright yellow hair. Hai Tingyan walked quickly through the crowd and stopped in front of Su Yi, throwing an arm around his shoulder with practiced familiarity. “I have been looking for you forever. Here, the thing you have been talking about.”
With that, Hai Tingyan shook a gift box, smiling brightly. Su Yi quietly moved out from under Hai Tingyan’s arm and looked at Pei Yingjue. “This is Hai Tingyan, my childhood friend.”
Pei Yingjue gave the yellow-haired boy a cold glance. “Mn.”
“And this is Pei Yingjue. You know him.”
Hai Tingyan scanned Pei Yingjue from head to toe. The bright smile vanished instantly, replaced by a distant, almost hostile indifference. “Mn, I have heard of him.”
Their gazes met, and they saw through each other’s thoughts instantly.
“Are you on A-Yi’s team? Please take good care of him,” Hai Tingyan said, extending his hand.
Standing to the side, Su Yi raised an eyebrow slightly.
“He is a very capable person. He does not need anyone to ask for help or care on his behalf,” Pei Yingjue said coldly.
Hai Tingyan’s eyes turned cold, and his extended hand curled slightly.
Pfft!
The two of them turned to see Su Yi stifling a laugh.
“That is enough,” Su Yi said with a smile, patting both of them on the shoulder to push them apart. He looked at Hai Tingyan. “You should head off first. Go see if my brother has finished getting ready.”
Hai Tingyan raised his brows and looked down at Su Yi, though his eyes darted defiantly toward Pei Yingjue. “Whatever you say, A-Yi.”
“Good,” Su Yi said, satisfied with the answer. He patted Hai Tingyan’s shoulder and gave him a gentle push. “I will come find you all in a bit.”
As Hai Tingyan watched Su Yi turn back toward Pei Yingjue, he ground his teeth. Seeing that Su Yi had no intention of looking back, he realized that those words were simply meant to drive him away. He was so angry he wanted to stomp his feet, but out of respect for Su Yi, he could not do anything to Pei Yingjue. He could only huff in frustration and turn away reluctantly.
“That is just his personality,” Su Yi explained.
“Does everyone close to you call you A-Yi?” Pei Yingjue asked.
Su Yi raised an eyebrow. “You can call me that too.”
“Am I considered someone close to you?” Pei Yingjue asked calmly.
“Do you want to be?” Su Yi asked softly.
The room was noisy. Pei Yingjue watched Su Yi’s eyes curve into a mischievous smile.
“I will not call you by that name,” Pei Yingjue said, reaching out to pinch Su Yi’s cheek. “Can we change it?”
Su Yi tilted his head and rubbed against Pei Yingjue’s thumb. “Sure.”
Looking at his reliant behavior, Pei Yingjue’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
“I am probably going to be very busy for a while,” Su Yi said, lowering his head.
Pei Yingjue cupped half of his face with his palm. “How busy?”
“So, busy that I won’t have time to reply to your messages or talk to you,” Su Yi said, leaning his weight into Pei Yingjue’s hand. “Wait for me, okay? Wait until the party is almost over, and I will take you to the real birthday party.”
In this situation, Pei Yingjue would not refuse anything Su Yi asked. “Fine. I will wait for you,” he responded gently.
He was beginning to look forward to that time. Su Qing was right; regardless of whether his own starting point was lowly or foul, the decision of whether to accept him should be left to Su Yi.
