- Chapter 12 - Fake Young Master Alpha x Real Young Master Alpha (12)
Su Yi and Pei Yingjue reached a tacit understanding to never mention the absurdity of that night again. That moment of passion became a dream of the dark night, dissipating as soon as dawn broke. However, it did leave something behind.
[Su Yi: I have something to attend to, so I might return a bit late tonight T^T.]
“You even have to report your schedule?” Hai Tingyan asked with a frown, glancing sideways at the message.
Su Yi turned off his phone screen and said nothing. Since that night, Su Yi had been heading to Pei Yingjue’s place every evening to scavenge a meal. If it happened to be a marking day, he would naturally stay over at Pei Yingjue’s house. Over time, it became a habit for whoever was returning late to notify the other.
“Are you really going to team up with him?” Hai Tingyan’s eyes darkened. “If you want to find someone else to team up with, you can, right? He is not the only person who invited you.”
It was true that people had invited Su Yi, but mostly out of respect for the Su family.
Su Yi replied, “Yes. It has to be him.”
Hai Tingyan’s frown deepened.
“Do you not know the reason?” Su Yi glanced at him.
Recalling the situation made Hai Tingyan even more annoyed. “I know, but you moved into that kind of dormitory for him. What is the difference between that and living in a trash can? It is small and old.”
Hearing Hai Tingyan’s words, Su Yi chuckled. This was a true young master speaking.
“It is not entirely because of him. What, do you want me to get mixed up with my brother instead?” Su Yi looked out the car window with a neutral expression.
Hai Tingyan frowned. He weighed in his mind whether Pei Yingjue or Su Yi’s brother, Su Yi, was easier to accept. After thinking for a long time, either choice felt somewhat repulsive to him.
“Would the rejection rate between us be lower than theirs?” Hai Tingyan suddenly asked.
Su Yi shot him a look. “If it were actually low, would my brother have bothered giving me his profile?”
If the compatibility were truly low, Su Yi would have stopped him from associating with Hai Tingyan long ago. The words were true, and Hai Tingyan’s unhappiness was also true, but he could see that Su Yi did not want to continue discussing it. After all, the person finding this most difficult to accept was Su Yi himself. Between a stranger and a biological brother, neither was an easy choice.
“Let us not talk about this anymore. You do not know, but my father has gone crazy lately. He actually wants me to apply to the military academy,” Hai Tingyan said, changing the subject. “I heard they are starting recruitment this time. The deadline is half a month after your Federation’s preliminary screening.”
Su Yi raised an eyebrow. Hai Tingyan was the only child of the Hai family, born to inherit the family fortune. However, Hai Tingyan was truly shiftless. He knew every trendy place and fashionable way to play, but he simply hated studying. It was no wonder his father wanted to send him to the military academy for some discipline.
“Did you get caught playing around by Uncle Hai recently?” Su Yi teased.
“No way.”
“Behave yourself for a while and go to school obediently. Maybe Uncle Hai will be happy enough to rescind the order,” Su Yi said as he lowered his head to reply to a message.
[Pei Yingjue: Okay. I have submitted the registration form. Are we eating out tonight?]
[Su Yi: No. Wait for me, Student Pei Q^Q.]
[Pei Yingjue: Okay.]
Perhaps feeling that the reply was a bit cold, Pei Yingjue spent a long time typing before sending a sticker of a cat nodding, even though it was a bit outdated. Su Yi chuckled.
Hai Tingyan caught a glimpse of Su Yi’s beaming face from the corner of his eye and felt frustrated. However, Su Yi’s expression soon turned cold.
[Su Yi: When are you coming home?]
Su Yi frowned and decided not to reply for now. Lin Ke had likely already told Su Yi what happened. Since Su Yi currently did not know about his situation with Pei Yingjue, he probably would not be in such a hurry to act. It was only natural for Su Yi not to reply. After all, who could accept being marked by their own brother?
Su Yi turned off his phone and looked at the approaching hospital. His gland had been feeling a bit swollen lately; he needed to get it checked out.
Inside the Federation Building, Su Yi looked at the empty chat box and rubbed his brow.
Knock, knock, knock.
“Come in.”
The secretary entered and placed a stack of documents on the desk. “Vice Chairman, here is the information on the league participants.”
Su Yi nodded, picked up the file, and flipped through it. He had not told Su Yi that he was in full charge of the league affairs and that all information would pass through his hands.
The current phase was the team practice, which was considered the most important part of the league. Each group of members would set up their own projects and be scored based on the process and the results. This made the team members very important. Not only did they need strong individual abilities, but their family backgrounds could not be too poor either.
Given Su Yi’s situation, it was impossible for him to be left without a team. Su Yi knew that it was currently difficult for Su Yi to accept the fact of being marked by his brother. However, judging by his determination to enter the Union, Su Yi would eventually come to him before the final screening. For now, it was fine to let him throw a small tantrum.
Su Yi’s gaze swept across the names until it suddenly stopped. There was a group with only two members, and one of them was his dear younger brother.
Su Yi’s brow furrowed slightly. “Investigate this Pei Yingjue.”
The file was snapped shut with a loud sound. The secretary picked it up and replied, “Yes, sir.”
“Leaving so early, Little Pei?”
“Yes,” Pei Yingjue replied while packing his things.
Hearing this, the senior student who asked the question raised an eyebrow. Previously, Pei Yingjue was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, regardless of the difficulty of the experiment. Recently, he had changed quite a bit. Although he still arrived at the laboratory early, he left as soon as the clock struck the hour.
“Is something going on lately? I noticed you do not stay in the lab much anymore,” the senior asked curiously.
Pei Yingjue lowered his gaze and put on his coat. “No. I just finished the experiment.”
The senior gave a meaningful smile. Although the Omega who used to send flowers had stopped, it seemed Pei Yingjue had a new situation. “Poor Omega flower-sender. Our Little Pei has been snatched away by someone else,” the senior joked.
What was there to pity? That person was waiting for him to go home and eat.
But there was no need to tell that to outsiders. Pei Yingjue said nothing, finished the handover, and nodded to the senior. “I am leaving, Senior.”
“Have fun!”
Pei Yingjue walked out of the experimental building. There were not many people at school on Sunday. Generally, Su Yi would arrive home earlier than him. The other person’s claim that he wanted to learn how to cook was not a lie. Pei Yingjue still remembered his surprise when he first came home and saw Su Yi making soup. He was quite a trustworthy little young master.
Thinking of this, a smile touched Pei Yingjue’s eyes. Looking at the time, Su Yi would not be home early today, so he was in no hurry to return. After all, he would be the only one at home.
Pei Yingjue walked through the campus, timing his pace. As the sky darkened, the autumn air grew chilly. He wondered if Su Yi was dressed warmly enough. That person was always forgetful and somewhat lacking in life skills. Every few days, he would knock on the dorm door to borrow this or that, truly treating him like a helpful neighbor.
Ding-ling!
Pei Yingjue looked to the side and saw a clerk carrying a bucket of flowers out of a shop. He looked up; this was the place where he had bought flowers during Su Yi’s performance last time.
When EMBER disbanded, the forum crashed several times. It was a big deal. At that time, people were chasing Su Yi for inside information, forcing him to hide in Pei Yingjue’s dorm for two or three days. It was only after the lead singer of the band came out to explain the situation that the farce ended.
Pei Yingjue stood in front of the shop and watched the clerk bring out a pre-written wooden sign. It seemed to be an event for blue-colored flowers, as all the flowers brought out were blue.
“Would you like to pick a bouquet? This is our new event, Daily Surprise! Every evening, there will be random colored bouquets for everyone to choose from. You can pick one for a friend, lover, or family member as a little surprise for the day,” the clerk introduced.
Pei Yingjue looked at the blooming blue flowers. A surprise?
“Let me take a look.”
“Let me introduce them to you.”
In the end, Pei Yingjue chose a bouquet of Endless Summer Hydrangeas. They were beautiful blue clusters; he did not know if Su Yi would like them. When he reached the door with the flowers, Pei Yingjue felt it was a bit funny. Why did he care if Su Yi liked them or not?
Pei Yingjue took out his key, turned it, and pushed open the door. A warm light shone from inside the room.
“You are back.” Su Yi had somehow found a pink floral apron and tied it around his waist. He was stirring a pot of soup with a large spoon, muttering quietly as he stirred, “This should be okay now.”
The light fell on Pei Yingjue, driving away some of the cold he had brought with him. He stepped into the room, closed the door, and placed the flowers in a vase. He stood at the kitchen door, watching Su Yi clumsily but seriously making shrimp and tofu soup.
“I thought you were coming back late?” Pei Yingjue asked. This was his house off-campus, but of course, he had already given a certain someone a key.
“But I did not expect someone to be even later than me,” Su Yi said, raising an eyebrow at him. “I learned how to make this soup from a tutorial. Just you wait and see later.”
Pei Yingjue could not help but smile at his proud expression. He was so childish.
“So, Chef Su is in charge today?” Pei Yingjue asked.
“No!” Su Yi turned around and frowned at him. “Good Student Pei, you do not want to eat something that tastes that, well, bad, do you?”
Pei Yingjue laughed, stepped forward, and took the spoon from his hand. “Go wait outside.”
Su Yi’s mood immediately brightened. “Understood, Chef Pei!”
As he spoke, Su Yi walked out of the kitchen. He raised an eyebrow when he saw the flowers in the vase. “You bought flowers? From that shop on West Street?”
“Yes,” Pei Yingjue glanced at him. “I was passing by and thought they looked good, so I bought a bouquet.”
“They are having an event lately, right? Daily Surprise? I think that is the name,” Su Yi muttered.
Pei Yingjue did not expect him to be so well-informed. “Do you go there often to buy flowers?”
Su Yi shook his head mysteriously. “No.”
Pei Yingjue turned around to see what he was up to. Su Yi sat at the table, propping up his head and waving a finger at him. “I am an apprentice there, so I know all about their recent events. Next time you can give my name; it might be cheaper.”
“You are an apprentice there?” This truly surprised Pei Yingjue. Being a flower shop apprentice was not easy work. If Su Yi wanted to learn flower arrangement, he did not need to go that far.
Su Yi nodded. “I was the one who negotiated the fan event flowers for EMBER’s last performance.”
Pei Yingjue felt a stir in his heart and asked, “When did you start working there as an apprentice?”
“A month ago? It should be around that time; I am not entirely sure,” Su Yi said, flicking a petal.
Pei Yingjue looked at Su Yi through the glass door of the kitchen. A month ago was around the time they had just made their agreement. Were those flowers sent to him handmade by Su Yi?
Su Yi seemed to sense his gaze and curled his lips at him. “Chef Pei, the dish is going to burn.”
Pei Yingjue snapped out of it and looked away, his mind already made up. If he had not bought this bouquet today or asked further, would he never have known who picked out and tied those flowers one by one? Su Yi was truly clumsy at pursuing someone.
It was another evening of the two of them having dinner at the table. Pei Yingjue looked at the decent-looking shrimp and tofu soup placed in front of him. Meeting the expectant gaze of the other person, he took a spoonful and drank it.
Pei Yingjue did not give an evaluation immediately.
“How is it?” Su Yi could not help but ask first.
Pei Yingjue finally put down his spoon and praised him seriously, “It is very fresh. It is the first time I have tasted such delicious soup.”
Hearing this, Su Yi lifted his chin proudly. “Just you wait. One day, I will take over your position.”
Pei Yingjue chuckled. “Take over the position of head chef?”
“What, do you look down on chefs?”
“I would not dare.”
Su Yi huffed twice, considering it a pass for his impudence. Pei Yingjue watched Su Yi as he kept putting food into his bowl. One day…
Would Su Yi still come to his house to eat after the contract ended? Pei Yingjue scanned the place that was originally just a spot for him to rest on weekends. There was a green plant Su Yi brought last week on the windowsill. There were flowers Su Yi sent over the past two weeks on the balcony. There were some of Su Yi’s clothes in the wardrobe because Su Yi never had clean clothes to wear after being marked. There should still be some leftover cake Su Yi did not finish yesterday in the fridge.
With all these things, this place that was just a weekend retreat for Pei Yingjue had already been infused with too many traces of another person. It was so much that if he left, he might not be able to clear it out even if he split the room in two.
Pei Yingjue suddenly felt a bit afraid to think about Su Yi leaving.
Perhaps because Pei Yingjue’s gaze was too intense, Su Yi stopped eating and looked up at him, speaking meaningfully: “Little Pei.”
“Yes?” Pei Yingjue responded. Su Yi always liked giving him nicknames, and they were never the same.
“You remember what day it is today, right?” Su Yi put down his chopsticks.
Pei Yingjue looked at him, his Adam’s apple bobbing. He certainly remembered; Sunday was their agreed marking time.
“Yes.”
Su Yi tapped the table and looked at him, his tone rising. “Staring at me like that makes me feel like you are hinting at something.”
Pei Yingjue’s gaze deepened. “Hinting at what?”
“Hinting “…” Su Yi suddenly propped up his hand and looked at him. His grey eyes, sparkling with light, gave him a seductive look as he lowered his voice. “Hinting that instead of eating, you would rather mark me.”
Pei Yingjue looked at him quietly, not answering for a long time.
“Alright, I am just teasing you.” Su Yi withdrew his seductive charm and tucked himself back into the shell of a secret admirer. “Just pretend you did not hear it “…”
“What if I say, I am?”
Pei Yingjue looked up, his voice a bit raspy.
Su Yi paused for a moment. His eyes flickered, and he reached out his slender fingers along the table until his warm fingertips touched Pei Yingjue’s hand. The fair hand gave a little hook.
Pei Yingjue’s breath hitched. He looked up to see Su Yi watching him with a smile at the corner of his eyes.
“Then we had better eat quickly.”
