[Forced punishment will be implemented after the third warning!]
It was unclear who made the first move, but by the time they regained their senses, the two were already pressed together, intimately and shamelessly entwined. The pure white moonlight cascaded over the two figures locked in a messy embrace.
It was only when one of them let out a long sigh that the absurd affair came to a hasty end. However, the hot and damp sensation on their hands lingered, refusing to fade. Even cold water could not wash it away.
Pei Yingjue stood in the bathroom, letting the cold spray drench his body. He stared at his palm, took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and suddenly punched himself in the face.
This was madness.
How could he do such a thing to Su Yi? This had crossed the boundaries of their “three-rule agreement.” It had nothing to do with temporary marking or any defined relationship; it was nothing more than raw, physical desire.
Pei Yingjue leaned his head against the cold tiles. Through the wall, he heard a sudden sound.
Thud, thud, thud.
It beat like a drum.
Pei Yingjue opened his eyes, watched the streaming water for a long time, and finally let out a heavy sigh. He thought to himself that he really had gone crazy as he turned off the shower.
It was late. He could not make Su Yi head back now. Besides, the boy did not even have a clean pair of pants to wear out the door.
The chaotic night passed slowly. When the sunlight hit Pei Yingjue’s face the next morning, he finally opened his eyes, feeling exhausted. The first thing he saw was the tidy bed and the neatly folded quilt; not a single trace of the previous night remained. It looked as if he had simply slept on the sofa because he was bored with the bed.
The questions he had not quite figured out were pushed to the back of his mind. Pei Yingjue sat up and checked his phone. The screen was clean, showing nothing but the time.
Once again, Su Yi had left without saying goodbye. This time, there was not even a message.
Pei Yingjue stood up, feeling an indescribable irritation laced with a hint of powerlessness. He took a few deep breaths until his expression returned to a state of calm.
Why be annoyed? He asked himself. It is not the first time.
He brushed his teeth, washed up, and changed his clothes. Once ready, he checked the time. It was still early for his scheduled experiment, but since he had missed time the previous night, it was only right to head in early.
With his phone in hand, Pei Yingjue walked to the door and reached for the handle.
Click.
Miraculously, the door was pushed open from the outside.
“Help!”
Hearing the familiar voice, Pei Yingjue pulled the door wide. He found Su Yi standing there, carrying two large shopping bags in each hand and a cooking pot tucked under his arm. The visual impact was significant.
“I took these from the dorm,” Su Yi explained. “Good classmate Pei, please let me in.”
From the dorm? Taken from whose dorm? That blonde guy’s?
Pei Yingjue did not press him for details yet; he stepped aside to let him in. Su Yi staggered through the doorway, swaying with the weight of his haul.
“These things are all new! I brought them specifically. Luckily I left early, otherwise, I would definitely have been stared at on the way back. I might even show up on the school forums soon.”
Pei Yingjue leaned against the doorframe, listening to Su Yi ramble while watching him stock the fridge and kitchen with fruits and vegetables. The red tint at the tips of Su Yi’s hair had been washed out yesterday; his hair was now jet black, falling softly against his forehead. He wore an oversized short-sleeved shirt and pants that were slightly too long.
They were not his own clothes.
“Oh, by the way, I took a couple of items from your closet,” Su Yi added. “My clothes were unwearable.”
There was a hint of accusation in his tone. Pei Yingjue looked away and coughed lightly, not daring to respond to that particular point.
“When did you go out?” Pei Yingjue asked.
“Around eight?” Su Yi thought for a moment. “My phone was dead, so I left it charging by the bed when I went out. I did not check the time.”
Pei Yingjue glanced at the bedside table and noticed the phone for the first time.
“Then how did you pay for these things?”
Su Yi turned around and gave him a mysterious smile. “I did not buy them. I took them.”
Recalling Su Yi’s earlier comment, Pei Yingjue frowned slightly. “From the blonde guy?”
Su Yi raised an eyebrow. “You mean Hai Tingyan? No, he does not live on campus.”
“Then where?”
“I took them from my own dorm.”
Pei Yingjue was startled. “Your own dorm?”
Su Yi scratched his cheek, looking a bit guilty. “I moved into the room across from yours the day before yesterday. I was in rehearsals at the time, so Hai Tingyan helped move everything. I even treated him to a meal for it.”
Su Yi explained in detail, which immediately brought the memory back to Pei Yingjue. He recalled that Su Yi had been wearing makeup that day; he indeed looked like he had just finished a rehearsal.
However, another question lingered in Pei Yingjue’s mind, but the person in question had already turned away to fiddle with the pot he had brought. After several failed attempts to set it up, Su Yi turned to Pei Yingjue and coughed twice. “Do you know how to cook?”
Pei Yingjue raised an eyebrow. “If you do not know how, why did you not eat at the cafeteria?”
Su Yi lowered his head and leaned against the counter, his toe nudging Pei Yingjue’s foot. “If I eat at the cafeteria, I cannot eat with you.”
“So, you brought all this stuff just to make me cook?” Pei Yingjue stepped back slightly, but Su Yi’s toe immediately followed.
“I will learn soon, I promise. Please, Classmate Pei, just this once,” Su Yi pleaded in a soft voice.
Pei Yingjue looked at him hanging his head and nudging his foot, and he could not help but smile. He purposely let out a sigh, took the pot from Su Yi’s hands, and gave a quiet command. “Go wash the vegetables.”
” Yes, sir!” Su Yi chirped.
Pei Yingjue had rarely used the dorm kitchen. Between the cafeteria and the general laziness of cooking for one, this was the first time he had ever prepared a meal for two.
As noon approached, Pei Yingjue kept it simple, making a bowl of tomato and egg noodles. He had considered making something more elaborate for the young master, but assuming Su Yi’s usual diet was probably more luxurious than anything he could imagine, he stuck to a standard meal.
As the steaming noodles were placed on the table, Su Yi’s eyes lit up. “It smells so good!”
Pei Yingjue handed him the chopsticks. “Want a taste?”
Su Yi took them and immediately picked up a bunch of noodles, blowing on them briefly before stuffing them into his mouth. He moved so fast that Pei Yingjue could not stop him; predictably, Su Yi burned his mouth.
Pei Yingjue shook his head and handed him a glass of water. Su Yi took a large gulp. “It is delicious!” He even gave Pei Yingjue a thumbs-up.
Pei Yingjue did not know whether to laugh or cry; he simply waved a hand at him. “Be careful, it is hot.”
Su Yi nodded and began his battle with the hot noodles.
The warmth in the room combined with the scent of food gave the single-person dorm a sense of home—something Pei Yingjue had not experienced in the past decade. The old man who raised him usually lost his temper, and the house was often filled with the sound of things smashing against the floor. The noise had made Pei Yingjue prefer living alone.
This was the first time since the old man’s death that Pei Yingjue had allowed someone into his territory to eat and sleep. He watched Su Yi eat, the steam rising between them.
Living with someone else did not seem so bad after all; it just depended on the person.
“Why did you move to the dorms?”
Su Yi paused mid-bite and toyed with his noodles. “I have a bad relationship with my family.”
His tone was flat. Pei Yingjue sat up straight to listen.
“I have no pheromones. My parents probably find it embarrassing. They have not cared much for me since I was a child, and since my brother recently became the Vice Chairman of the Alliance, they have even less time for a useless person like me,” Su Yi said as if it were a matter of fact. “Life at home is annoying, so I took the opportunity with this practical group project to move out and stay out of their sight.”
“What about your brother?” Pei Yingjue asked with a frown.
Su Yi smiled. “He watches me like a prisoner. I just needed to come out for some air.”
Pei Yingjue looked at his natural smile with a heavy gaze. Su Yi, however, did not seem to care; he waved it off. “I am used to it. At least they are quite generous with the allowance.”
Realizing Su Yi did not want to talk more about it, Pei Yingjue did not push. He changed the subject. “Then why not rent a place off-campus? Or apply for the villa area?”
“Because this is closer to you.”
Pei Yingjue paused.
Su Yi said earnestly, “I will not give up.”
Pei Yingjue did not ask for clarification—whether he would not give up on liking him, or pursuing him, or both. None of that mattered right now.
“Why did you pretend not to know me that day?” Pei Yingjue asked, his eyes downcast.
Suddenly, a slender, fair palm waved in front of his face. Pei Yingjue looked up to find Su Yi staring at him intently. “You were with other people. It might not be good for others to know we are acquainted.”
“There would be a lot of gossip. I did not want them talking about you like that.”
Pei Yingjue looked into those bright, clear eyes and suddenly smiled. So he really had been overthinking and imagining all sorts of possibilities for no reason.
Su Yi paused at the sight of his smile, then curled his own lips.
“There is no need for that,” Pei Yingjue said. “The group list has to be submitted in a few days anyway. By then, everyone will know we are acquainted. There is no point in pretending to be strangers; we just should not be too intimate in front of others.”
“Besides, I do not care what people say.” Pei Yingjue looked at Su Yi and asked seriously, “Or do you have other candidates for your group?”
Su Yi raised an eyebrow. “Even if I did, I would refuse them.”
The irritation that had been lingering in Pei Yingjue’s chest suddenly vanished. He gestured to Su Yi. “Come wash the dishes.”
It was just one pot, two bowls, and two pairs of chopsticks, yet for some reason, they insisted on squeezing together to wash them. Standing by the sink, shoulder to shoulder, arm to arm.
Pei Yingjue dried the small pot and was about to put it back in the bag when Su Yi stopped him. Turning his head, he saw Su Yi blinking up at him. “Can’t the pot stay here? The vegetables are all here anyway.”
As he spoke, Su Yi gently shook Pei Yingjue’s arm.
“There are too many vegetables for one person to finish; they will go bad,” Pei Yingjue said softly.
“Two people can finish them,” Su Yi replied immediately, as if he had planned this all along.
Pei Yingjue could almost see a fox’s tail wagging behind Su Yi. In the end, he swallowed the words that he usually eats at the cafeteria.
“Then leave it here,” Pei Yingjue said.
