The Security Guard Who Won the Heart of the Unattainable Actress - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Li Guang held Ran Mingyue steadily.
When they were about knee-deep in the water, a muffled sound came from under the lake. Soon, multiple dummy bodies floated to the surface.
“Oh my gosh, there are so many!” The others on the shore were shivering. “With so many, which one is Zheng Gaisi that we’re supposed to be looking for?”
“Look at the chest badges.” Ran Mingyue said as she looked. She had already found signs of submersion on two of the bodies floating in front of her.
She and Li Guang exchanged glances, and a hypothesis was ready to emerge.
“Found it.” Li Guang reached out to move the prop in front of them. She was surprisingly able to hold Ran Mingyue with one hand. She pushed hard toward the shore. Ran Mingyue was still in her arms, safe and sound.
Once on shore, Li Guang put Ran Mingyue down. Ran Mingyue didn’t have time to say thank you. She could only gently squeeze Li Guang’s arm.
When she looked up, she saw Li Guang secretly give her a wink.
Zheng Gaisi’s fatal wound was a stab wound to his lower abdomen. Ran Mingyue’s hand fumbled in the inner pocket of his clothes and found a hard, flat object.
She took it out and saw it was a flat key.
Xiang Que said: “I remember now. When we were searching the store, there was a cabinet at the counter that couldn’t be opened. It used this kind of flat key. We must have to open that to get the next clue.”
The group returned to the convenience store again, and Li Guang followed them with a grunt.
When they went in, Jiang Qiaoye even asked Li Guang to go in first to see if anyone might be ambushed in the convenience store before he would agree to go in.
At that moment, Ran Mingyue was one second away from shooting her teammate.
Li Guang agreed cleanly and quickly, running inside as agilely as a little rabbit. As she passed by Ran Mingyue.
Ran Mingyue couldn’t control herself and reached out.
“What’s wrong?” Li Guang turned her head and stopped. “What’s the matter?”
“…” How did this person even notice such a small movement? Ran Mingyue was a little embarrassed. She forced herself to remain calm and said, “I want you to be careful.”
Jiang Qiaoye said: “It’s okay, Sister Ran. Our security guards are here to be our health bars anyway.”
As soon as he said that, he felt that familiar coldness creep up his spine.
Strange, these corpses are clearly fake dummies!!!
Wen Yingzhi teased with a laugh: “You really aren’t afraid of being shot.”
The others began to huddle together and discuss the known plot so far.
Mei Wenti went undercover here to investigate a criminal group. Her life or death was unknown. The multiple bodies in the lake were people drowned by the criminal group. It was easy to guess that besides the store manager Zheng Gaisi, there were also employees Jiang Dahe, and Jin Zi was the other member of the criminal group.
Ran Mingyue had also guessed that Jiang Qiaoye was Jiang Dahe, who just wanted to find the money he had left with the store manager. If she wasn’t mistaken, Xiang Que’s identity was to be a decoy; he wasn’t the killer or a member of the criminal group.
After opening the cabinet with the key, they got a damaged flash drive with some audio recordings.
“That Mei Wenti… she… she can’t move…”
“She’s very tight-lipped.”
“I’m even more suspicious that she’s a police officer. Jin Zi is always with her when she goes to and from work. I’m… worried…”
“Get rid of Jin Zi!”
“…It has to end sometime. I made an appointment with Jiang today…”
“Static static static”
After that, there was only the sound of static. The flash drive was damaged.
“Jin Zi?” Ran Mingyue said calmly. “This is the first time Jin Zi’s name has appeared.”
“Look, there’s a secret door here!” Xiang Que called out to them. He had been focusing on the shelves. After he pushed a row of shelves aside, there was an iron door!
Next to the iron door, the words “Cold Storage” were written.
Ran Mingyue didn’t hesitate and opened the door directly. A cold blast of air hit them, and everyone shivered.
She couldn’t help but put her hand on her gun.
There was no one inside. It was quiet, with only a huge freezer.
“No way…”
Jiang Qiaoye pointed at the large freezer and said: “I have a very bad feeling.”
“It’s Mei Wenti,” Xiang Que sighed, and he bent down to confirm her identity. “She wasn’t found for so long because she was hidden in the cold storage.”
But when he straightened up, two sheets of paper fell out of his inner pocket.
Jiang Qiaoye quickly picked them up. “Why are so many of the store manager’s names written here with red X’s? You wanted to kill Zheng Gaisi, you’re the killer?!”
He punched the life point on Xiang Que’s back, and Xiang Que’s health dropped to a critical level.
“Wait! Look at this notebook.” Wen Yingzhi ran over with a thick notebook. “I just found Jiang Dahe’s duty notes. There are a lot of strange red X’s on the pages of his notebook. The last page says Zheng Gaisi, and it also has a red X.”
Wen Yingzhi pulled a small photo of Jiang Qiaoye from the front page: “You are Jiang Dahe. You killed the store manager!”
“It wasn’t me! How could it be me?” Jiang Qiaoye said. “Everyone here has a motive to kill.”
“No, Jin Zi doesn’t,” Ran Mingyue said slowly. “Don’t you remember what was said in that flash drive? Zheng Gaisi already suspected there was an undercover officer. He wanted to kill Mei Wenti, but Jin Zi was always with Mei Wenti, so he never found a chance.”
“Jin Zi was helping Mei Wenti.”
Everyone looked at each other, and their identities became clear.
Xiang Que took a step back: “Calm down, the identities aren’t necessarily correct! If you kill the wrong teammate, you still won’t find the real killer! It’s possible that this is just a smokescreen to confuse us, and we’d fall for it!”
What he said made everyone calm down.
Xiang Que stepped back again and carefully looked at the shelves that had been moved.
It was a very secretive shelf, and it seemed that the items on it were not for regular sale. Xiang Que discovered that the entire row of instant noodles on the top shelf was the same kind they had seen in Mei Wenti’s dorm.
Instant noodles.
Xiang Que looked at each bowl one by one and found that the edge of one of them was peeled.
His heart jumped. He was about to take a closer look.
A dark muzzle was pressed against Xiang Que’s forehead. Ran Mingyue appeared behind him.
“Sorry,” Ran Mingyue pulled the trigger without hesitation.
Two seconds later, Xiang Que was surprised to realize that Ran Mingyue’s gun was out of bullets! It was a blank.
“I know who the real killer is!” Xiang Que shouted to Jiang Qiaoye. “The killer is—”
Ran Mingyue dropped the pistol and pressed down on Xiang Que’s shoulder. Jiang Qiaoye rushed over, and just as Xiang Que was full of hope, Jiang Qiaoye pressed Xiang Que’s life point, finishing off his last bit of health.
“The killer is you!” Jiang Qiaoye looked triumphantly at the shocked Xiang Que. “I found your ID card and an IOU you left on Mei Wenti’s body. The store manager owed you a lot of money…”
As long as the killer was taken down, the accomplice would also be considered a success in hiding their identity.
Jiang Qiaoye was waiting for the production team to announce that he had won the game.
But Ran Mingyue picked up the pistol again and fired at Jiang Qiaoye and Wen Yingzhi. This time, it wasn’t a blank.
At the same time, everyone heard:
“Game over. The villain, the killer, wins. The real killer is—”
“Jin Zi. Ran Mingyue’s identity card is Jin Zi. Congratulations on successfully hiding your identity and winning the game.”
The guests on the set were briefly stunned.
“Sister Ran, you fooled Xiao Jiang so well!” Jiang Qiaoye howled.
“The instant noodles on the shelves were all resealed after being opened. Jin Zi was actually the one with the most suspicion. She had been adding sleeping pills to Mei Wenti’s food. They could be detected in the last bowl of instant noodles Mei Wenti ate.”
Xiang Que said, “I had just discovered that bowl of instant noodles, and then I was stabbed to death by my own teammate…”
“I wasn’t your teammate,” Jiang Qiaoye said. “I was one of the members of the criminal group. I just wanted to go it alone because of an uneven split with the store manager and I wanted to find the money.”
That money, along with all the bodies Zheng Gaisi had drowned, was preserved at the bottom of the lake.
“We know everyone must be hungry now. We’ve prepared hotpot for you. Please head to the Lake Pavilion. All the staff have worked hard, and you can all get off work today!”
Li Guang took off her mask and sunglasses. The show was over.
The smell of hotpot drifted over, and she couldn’t help but touch her deflated stomach.
She was so hungry.
She had been in a hurry to leave in the morning, and Li Guang had only eaten a compressed biscuit from the security team.
She walked back, and Chai Ning said, “Let’s go! The cafeteria is having pork ribs today to improve our meals. You’re the busiest person in our team, you should eat more.”
As soon as she thought of the cafeteria full of pork ribs, Li Guang became happy again. She chirped and quickened her pace.
“Can we eat the hotpot you prepared, or are you going to start some kind of escape mode again while we’re eating?” Jiang Qiaoye said: “Staff, can my number 05 and 06 come with me? I strongly demand that the security guards come too! As long as the show isn’t over, I’m not separating from my number 05 security guard.”
Ran Mingyue said speechlessly: “Jiang Qiaoye, your personal security guard is number 06. If you really don’t need him, then you can…”
Leave him for someone who needs him!
“Jiang Qiaoye, aren’t you afraid that the next time will be even scarier?” Wen Yingzhi quietly came up to Jiang Qiaoye. “I saw you were so scared today that you were clinging to the security guard. What, you’re just using the security staff as meat shields, huh?”
Jiang Qiaoye shivered. He thought about the production team’s antics and immediately said: “Director, I want to switch personal security guards!”
Ran Mingyue’s chopsticks paused.
“My security guard is a girl. I’m afraid I can’t hug her when I’m scared. There’s a difference between men and women,” Jiang Qiaoye said. “I think the security guard from this episode with Sister Ran is very good. I want to switch.”
Wang Rou said, “That depends on whether Mingyue agrees.”
Ran Mingyue said calmly: “I agree.”
“You got what you wanted, are you happy? Making your little cat happy.” Wen Yingzhi floated over to Ran Mingyue like a ghost. “You’re too strong. If you don’t act a little weak, how can your little cat have a chance to show herself?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Ran Mingyue replied, but the action of her hand paused. The beef ball on her chopsticks “plunked” into the pot.
She remembered the way Li Guang had rubbed her small stomach, she must be hungry. Ran Mingyue remembered the longing look in Li Guang’s eyes when she said she wanted to eat a small cake. It was so hard not to feel soft-hearted.
Li Guang was walking when she heard a loud shout from the studio: “Teacher Ran, are you okay! Call a doctor, call a doctor over!”
Ran Mingyue was injured?!
Li Guang’s ears immediately perked up, and she sprinted back.
“Hey! You’re off work already, what are you going back for, Xiao Li!”
But Chai Ning couldn’t stop her. She had already run off in a flash.
Ran Mingyue had just rolled up her sleeve. She had only been startled by the splashing soup, and her wrist had accidentally scraped the edge of the hotpot.
The doctor had already arrived. There was a small red mark on her exposed skin, about the size of a fingernail.
“It’s not a big deal,” Ran Mingyue said. But as soon as she said that, she saw Li Guang running over and immediately changed her tone, “Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch…”
“Teacher Ran, this injury…” The doctor’s face was hesitant. For the sake of mutual trust, he didn’t say anything like, “It doesn’t look like much to me.” He opened the first-aid kit and prepared to apply some cooling ointment to Ran Mingyue.
“Sister Mingyue! Are you okay?” Li Guang didn’t care who was standing in front of her. She pushed them aside and rushed to the front, looking at Ran Mingyue breathlessly and anxiously.
She reached out, wanting to take Ran Mingyue’s arm to check on her, but she was afraid of hurting Ran Mingyue. Her movements stopped halfway, and she didn’t dare to continue.
Wen Yingzhi gave Ran Mingyue a look: You know what I mean, right?
Jiang Qiaoye said: “Li Guang, the show is already over, isn’t it? There’s a doctor here.”
Wen Yingzhi directly pulled the show-off Jiang Qiaoye toward her, making room for Li Guang.
In Li Guang’s eyes, Ran Mingyue’s wound was incredibly red and swollen.
The doctor was applying medicine to Ran Mingyue. Ran Mingyue frowned, her usually soft lips were pursed, and she looked like she was in so much pain.
Hua Yuzhi said: “Sister, the doctor is putting cooling ointment on you, not chili oil.”
Wen Yingzhi couldn’t help but laugh and took Hua Yuzhi, show-off number 2, away as well.
“It must hurt so much! She’s enduring it so hard!” Li Guang felt as if she was experiencing the pain with Ran Mingyue. She really wanted to lower her head and blow on the wound for Ran Mingyue, but there were too many people.
Ran Mingyue hissed. Li Guang jumped to her side.
Ran Mingyue said it hurt. Li Guang, like a sprouting mushroom, went back and forth, whispering in the doctor’s ear: “Doctor, be gentle.” “Doctor, go slower.” “Doctor, be gentle!” “Doctor, she’s not feeling well!”
The doctor: If I go any slower, she’ll be perfectly fine! /angry.jpg
“Let me do it, let me do it?” Li Guang finally found a chance during a break in the doctor’s work. She took the cotton swab and wanted to apply the medicine to Ran Mingyue herself. Ran Mingyue shook her head. “Li Guang, I’m making you stay past your shift.”
Li Guang was quick-witted this time: “Not at all. You want to get off work too, right? I’ll take you back! Do you want me to carry you on my back? Do you want me to hold you? Or I can just support you?”
Wen Yingzhi couldn’t help but be show-off number 3: “Look again. Her arm is hurt, not her leg.”
Ran Mingyue gave Wen Yingzhi a kick from behind. A gentle smile appeared on her face. “Li Guang, I’ll have to trouble you then.”
