- Chapter 36 - At Your Command!
Yao Ling knew they hadn’t seen each other in three years. She looked at Peter with a hint of amusement. “Sister Anna is in such good health; why would she need to rest at home for three whole years? Wouldn’t she just get restless and ‘waste away’ lying around like that?”
Peter fell silent for a moment, frowning as he looked at her. “You don’t know?”
“Know what?” Yao Ling asked, completely bewildered.
Peter scrutinized the woman for a few moments. Seeing that she truly wasn’t lying, he shook his head. “Forget it. Since my Junior Sister didn’t tell you, she must have her reasons. Let’s go; we’re here for hotpot.”
With that, Peter released Yao Ling’s hand and quickly caught up with the two in front.
Yao Ling: “???”
In Yao Ling’s heart, Yao Anna was her absolute goddess. She had been a frantic fan since Yao Anna first debuted. After becoming the goddess’s assistant, she had meticulously recorded every single one of her habits and preferences.
Outside the hotpot restaurant, a black Bentley pulled steadily to the curb. Yao Zhenzhen, who had been waiting at the entrance for ages, felt her eyes light up. She immediately waved to Jiang Nian’an as the latter pushed open the car door and stepped out.
“Sister Nian’an! I’m over here!”
Pedestrians passing by couldn’t help but cast glances at the Alpha. Jiang Nian’an’s brow furrowed slightly, her expression darkening. Why did she feel so embarrassed?
Yao Zhenzhen trotted over and affectionately took the Alpha’s arm. Tilting her head up, she gazed at Jiang Nian’an with burning eyes and a sweet smile.
“Sister Nian’an, let’s go inside quickly. My classmates have all arrived, and they’re waiting for us.”
Jiang Nian’an suppressed a churning sensation in her stomach, her brow tightly knit. “Mm.”
The two walked ahead while Shen Mengjin followed behind. Watching the two figures who looked as if they wanted to be glued together, Shen Mengjin couldn’t help but roll her eyes and grumble silently.
If the Madam saw the President and her sister acting this close, I wonder what she would do?
Entering the main lobby on the first floor, Jiang Nian’an scanned the surroundings, searching for Yao Anna’s group. She frowned. Just as she assumed Yao Anna would be eating in a private room on the second floor, her gaze landed on the southeast corner!
The Alpha’s footsteps faltered. Yao Zhenzhen was forced to stop with her, asking curiously, “What’s wrong, Sister Nian’an?”
“It’s nothing.”
Jiang Nian’an withdrew her gaze, gave a faint smile, and continued upstairs with Yao Zhenzhen. Taking advantage of a moment when Yao Zhenzhen wasn’t looking, she shot a side-long glance at Shen Mengjin.
A flash of understanding crossed Shen Mengjin’s eyes. She nodded to Jiang Nian’an and suddenly spoke up, “President, my stomach feels a bit upset. I’m going to use the restroom downstairs first. You two go ahead.”
Yao Zhenzhen turned her head and saw Shen Mengjin’s “sneaky” retreating figure. She frowned, finding it strange.
“Is Secretary Shen alright…? Actually, I wanted to tell her that there are restrooms in the rooms upstairs too.”
Jiang Nian’an took a deep look at Shen Mengjin as she disappeared into the crowd. Withdrawing her gaze, she said calmly, “It’s fine. Let’s go up first. Didn’t you say your classmates were getting impatient?”
“True.” Yao Zhenzhen smiled and pulled Jiang Nian’an into a private booth.
Shen Mengjin hid at the corner of the stairs, keeping a close eye on that corner table. From this angle, she could clearly see the two foreigners, Adams and Peter. Because Yao Anna was sitting on the inside with Yao Ling blocking the view from the outside, Shen Mengjin couldn’t see her very clearly.
Inside the private room:
Yao Zhenzhen had attended an arts academy for university. Her grades hadn’t been very good since she was a child, and she only had a bit of talent for painting.
As everyone knew, art academies were built on mountains of money.
For this class reunion, even though Yao Zhenzhen hadn’t dressed up meticulously, her looks and temperament still easily outshone the other female classmates present. However, because Jiang Nian’an was sitting beside her, no one dared to make any reckless moves.
After three rounds of drinks, Jiang Nian’an refrained from drinking due to her plans for the evening. Yao Zhenzhen very thoughtfully served her food. Thinking about Yao Anna’s situation downstairs, Jiang Nian’an didn’t use her chopsticks much; she simply checked her phone frequently to reply to messages.
Even so, Yao Zhenzhen felt that being by Jiang Nian’an’s side was enough to be happy. She was content with this “sweetness.”
However, this scene left a bitter taste in the eyes of others. Among the group were high-achieving graduates who had found some success after graduation. Seeing their former goddess acting so submissively before Jiang Nian’an, while Jiang Nian’an didn’t even give her the courtesy of a reaction or share a single drink with them, most were filled with silent resentment.
Only one person stared intently at Yao Zhenzhen’s side, drinking moodily, her expression quite sour.
Jiang Nian’an really does have a thing with Yao Zhenzhen!
When she first saw them walking in arm-in-arm, Qi Lanjing was undoubtedly shocked and regretful. But when she noticed that Jiang Nian’an wasn’t treating Yao Zhenzhen with the legendary “tender care” and was actually quite indifferent, she felt she had a chance again!
However, seeing her former goddess reduced to the status of a “simp,” Qi Lanjing was furious. She believed Yao Zhenzhen’s feelings for Jiang Nian’an were simply not worth it!
A classmate beside her suddenly nudged Qi Lanjing’s arm with an elbow. The Alpha snapped back to reality and glared at her classmate with impatience, her tone harsh.
“What is it?”
The classmate didn’t mind. After all, Qi Lanjing was no longer an ordinary person; it wasn’t impossible for her to become a famous painter in the future. She leaned in, a fawning smile on her face, and pointedly looked at Yao Zhenzhen who was serving food to Jiang Nian’an. She lowered her voice.
“Sister Qi, you still like Goddess Yao? She’s quite extraordinary now—a third-tier actress with over a million fans. Tsk tsk, she even climbed onto an unreachable mogul like Jiang Nian’an. But you’re not bad either; a rising star among painters, and you even won a national silver award not long ago…”
Qi Lanjing downed another glass of wine, her handsome face darkening as she remained silent.
“To be honest, I don’t think President Jiang likes Goddess Yao at all. Compared to President Jiang, I think you and Goddess Yao are a better match, Sister Qi!”
Hearing this, Qi Lanjing felt the words were somewhat pleasant. She turned her gaze toward her. The classmate smiled flatteringly and continued to suck up.
“In fact, I think as long as you have the courage to pursue Goddess Yao, she will definitely choose you over President Jiang!”
“Oh?” Qi Lanjing looked at her classmate with interest, somewhat puzzled. “Why do you say that?”
Clearly, Jiang Nian’an was far wealthier and more powerful than she was.
Meanwhile, Jiang Nian’an’s mind was elsewhere. She was staring at her phone screen, having just received a message from Shen Mengjin.
Secretary Shen: “President, the Madam’s table ordered a crate of beer. They’re in the middle of a drinking contest. When do we act?”
A drinking contest? Jiang Nian’an’s brow furrowed. How did she not know that Yao Anna could drink? She was a little worried.
Jiang Nian’an: “She hasn’t had too much, has she?”
Hiding at the stairwell corner, Shen Mengjin saw the message and raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised.
Aww, so she does know how to worry about her wife?
She craned her neck to check the situation over there and typed back:
Secretary Shen: “Can’t see too clearly, but Madam has already drunk one person under the table. That guy named Peter is almost down too.”
Jiang Nian’an: “…”
The Alpha’s eyes turned cold. Just how many things was Yao Anna hiding from her?
Jiang Nian’an felt an inexplicable sense of irritability and frustration.
Understood. Continue watching. Tell me when they’re almost finished drinking; I’m coming downstairs.
Copy that.
First Floor.
Peter’s cheeks were flushed red, and his eyes were hazy with intoxication. He let out a beer burp and looked at the glass Yao Anna was raising again. He waved his hands repeatedly. “No more, no more… I need to go to the restroom…”
“That’s it?”
Yao Anna sneered and set down her glass. “A real man doesn’t say he ‘can’t’ so easily.”
Peter: “…”
He felt that if he drank any more, he really would be wasted.
“I’m not a ‘real man’ right now; I’m a woman.”
As he spoke, Peter gave Yao Anna a flirtatious smile and blew her a kiss.
That image…
Yao Anna felt a wave of disgust. She simply couldn’t look anymore. She quickly looked away and waved her hand, telling Peter to get lost.
Yao Anna swiped a piece of tripe through the broth and took a bite. She tapped her phone screen and, seeing the time, frowned slightly. She looked up at Adams, who was sitting across from her also eating hotpot.
She asked suspiciously, “Teacher, Brother and Yao Ling have been at the restroom for fifteen minutes. Why aren’t they back yet?”
Hearing this, Adams didn’t pay much mind. He poured half a glass of wine, raised it to clink with Yao Anna’s, and took a large gulp. He was older and couldn’t drink like Peter and Yao Anna were.
“They drank so much, especially Peter. He’s probably throwing up in the toilet.”
The mental image ruined Yao Anna’s appetite. She sighed. “I shouldn’t have been stubborn with him and made him drink so much.”
“It’s fine. You might not know, but your Senior Brother used to be a heavy drinker. If I hadn’t kept him in check and strictly ordered him to quit, his tolerance wouldn’t be this bad. He probably hasn’t touched alcohol in years, so his tolerance dropped.”
Yao Anna was slightly surprised. “…How come I never knew about this?”
Adams smiled and said dismissively, “That happened before I took you on as a student. Alcoholism isn’t exactly a good habit, so I didn’t tell you.”
“Fair enough…”
Unknowingly, another five minutes passed. Yao Anna stared at her phone screen, feeling that something wasn’t quite right.
It had been twenty minutes. Was her Senior Brother planning to pass out in the bathroom?
No, she had to go check!
What she didn’t know was that at this moment, the two of them were already so drunk they were nearly collapsing onto each other!
Yao Anna had drunk more than Yao Ling and Peter combined, but that amount of alcohol had zero effect on her. She didn’t forget her identity; she took a disposable mask out of her bag and put it on. She stood up and said to Adams, “Teacher, I’m going to the restroom as well.”
Adams paused, a hint of confusion in his eyes, but ultimately he didn’t ask. He just replied, “Alright.”
He watched Yao Anna’s retreating back, finding it strange. Why did she put on a mask just to go to the bathroom?
Could it be that she was afraid the restroom would be too smelly?
At the stairwell corner, Shen Mengjin was perfectly hidden. Seeing Yao Anna pass by, she immediately pulled out her phone to message the person upstairs. Simultaneously, she signaled her subordinates hiding in the alley behind the back door!
Second Floor, Private Room.
Secretary Shen: “Just got word. Our people at the back door accidentally caught Peter. Dr. Adams is currently alone at the table. Do we move?”
Jiang Nian’an’s eyes turned sharp. She replied almost instantly: Move immediately! Remember, keep the commotion small. Don’t let Yao Anna find out!
Secretary Shen: “At your command!”
Jiang Nian’an gripped her phone and stood up. Her gaze swept over the crowd who were all looking at her. She gave them a slight nod as a greeting, then turned and left the room, heading downstairs.
