- Chapter 31 - Sorry, I Refuse!
I’m sorry, I didn’t know you hated eating sushi…”
“There is a lot you don’t know. Please take your sushi and leave right now. Just looking at sushi makes me want to vomit.”
As she spoke, Rong Jingxi’s brows furrowed deeply. She covered her mouth with her hand, making a retching sound.
Yao Zhenzhen looked incredibly awkward. She never expected Rong Jingxi to hate sushi so much. Originally, she had intended to take advantage of Yao Anna’s absence to curry favor and build a good relationship with Rong Jingxi. She never imagined her efforts would backfire so spectacularly!
Seeing Rong Jingxi appearing to be in great distress, Yao Zhenzhen could only bite her lower lip and apologize repeatedly: “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! Sister Rong Jingxi, I really didn’t know you hated sushi that much… I’ll leave right now, and I’ll come back later to make amends!”
Rong Jingxi leaned against the coffee table, clutching her stomach with a look of intense pain. She waved her hand dismissively. “Don’t you dare come back! Looking at you makes me think of sushi now, and it’s making me feel sick. Just go!”
Looking at her made her think of sushi? Yao Zhenzhen’s expression turned mortified. Didn’t that basically mean that looking at her made Rong Jingxi feel disgusted?
Not long after, the sound of the door closing echoed through the room. The previously “suffering” Rong Jingxi straightened up immediately. She acted as if nothing had happened, casually opening a can of Coke and taking a large gulp before continuing her meal.
Xiao Xiang, who had witnessed the entire performance from the sidelines, was speechless. “…”
“Sis, you aren’t feeling nauseous anymore?”
Xiao Xiang couldn’t wrap her head around it. She was completely dazed. Since when did Rong Jingxi hate sushi? She clearly remembered them going to a Japanese restaurant before where Rong Jingxi had polished off three entire servings of mango sushi…
Was it perhaps because the sushi Yao Zhenzhen brought wasn’t mango flavored?
Rong Jingxi glanced at her, sighing inwardly at the girl’s innocence. She lifted the Coke and took another long swig. Anyone who actually knew her was well aware that sushi and Coke were her two favorite things in the world.
“The main issue was that the person delivering the sushi was wrong, so it made me feel sick. Now that the person is gone, the nausea is gone too.”
“Oh… so that’s how it is! I get it now!”
Xiao Xiang adopted a look of deep contemplation as she watched Rong Jingxi eat her boxed lunch with gusto. Suddenly, a look of realization dawned on her face.
Rong Jingxi didn’t even lift her eyelids; she didn’t hold any high expectations for this “silly child.” However, to give Xiao Xiang some face, she asked, “And what exactly do you understand now?”
Xiao Xiang leaned in excitedly toward Rong Jingxi, her eyes sparkling as if she had discovered some world-shattering secret.
“Sister Jingxi, do you really dislike Yao Zhenzhen?!”
Well, she’s at least teachable.
Rong Jingxi lazily raised her eyelids and finally gave Xiao Xiang a look. She pushed the girl’s round face away with a hint of disdain, choosing not to answer the question directly.
“Just eat your food and stop asking nonsense.”
Xiao Xiang was relentless. She felt she had finally had a moment of cleverness and was determined to get to the bottom of it. “Sis, just tell me. Tell me if you hate that Yao Zhenzhen or not?”
“Children shouldn’t meddle in the affairs of adults.”
Annoyed by the persistent questioning, Rong Jingxi simply picked up her half-finished lunch box and moved over to Yao Anna’s seat. The faint scent of the Omega’s perfume still lingered in the air. She took a deep breath, squinting her eyes in satisfaction, and continued eating happily.
It was truly hilarious. That “Yao-schemer” actually had the nerve to come over so blatantly to try and flatter her. The woman clearly hadn’t weighed her own worth.
Rong Jingxi had spent a great deal of effort to push Lu Fanqing out of the female lead role to join the crew of The Rebirth of the Phoenix. She certainly hadn’t come here to watch Yao-schemer’s hypocritical and disgusting performance.
At that thought, a glint of a smile flashed in Rong Jingxi’s eyes. She was finally one step closer to Yao Anna, and the thought brought her immense satisfaction.
If only I could have lunch with Yao Anna, Rong Jingxi thought. She silently pulled two movie tickets from her pocket, a look of regret passing through her eyes.
“What a pity.”
The Alpha let out a soft, melancholy sigh. She tore the two movie tickets into pieces and tossed them into the trash can. After taking a moment to adjust her sullen mood, she resumed eating with large bites.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town.
The Imperial Capital Airport was bustling with people. A low-profile yet luxurious Bentley pulled steadily to the curb. Sitting in the back seat, Jiang Nian’an closed her laptop and looked out the window. She stared intently at the airport exit and asked, “Do you see Dr. Adams yet?”
Shen Mengjin looked at the photo in her hand and then back out the window. She shook her head and said patiently, “Not yet. But according to the information I found, Dr. Adams’ flight should have landed by now. He should be out soon. Let’s wait a bit longer…”
Jiang Nian’an trusted Shen Mengjin and joined her in scanning the crowd for the foreign doctor.
Five minutes later, two tall, sturdy men emerged from the exit. They were Caucasian with blonde hair. The man leading the way was older, likely in his late forties or early fifties. Time had not been a “butcher’s knife” to his face; instead, it had made him look mature and charismatic.
Shen Mengjin’s eyes sharpened as she said excitedly, “CEO, that’s Dr. Adams!”
Jiang Nian’an followed Shen Mengjin’s gaze and nodded slightly. The foreigner’s appearance was indeed quite distinctive.
The man following behind Adams was much younger, perhaps in his thirties, with a more ordinary appearance compared to Adams. He was struggling slightly with two suitcases, following behind Adams like an assistant or a luggage carrier.
Adams reached the roadside and looked around as if searching for someone.
“CEO, should we go down now?”
“No. Drive the car right up to him, then we’ll get out.” Jiang Nian’an kept her eyes fixed on the two men standing by the road and gave the order calmly.
“Understood.”
Following the Alpha’s instructions, Shen Mengjin drove the car right next to Adams. Sitting in the back, Jiang Nian’an rolled down the window.
Seeing this, Adams showed a flash of surprise before a look of understanding crossed his face. Using somewhat broken Mandarin, he looked at Jiang Nian’an and said, “I am sorry, we do not need a taxi!”
The atmosphere suddenly became extremely awkward.
Shen Mengjin’s eyes widened in shock. She admired this foreigner’s nerve; he actually dared to speak to her boss that way. It was the first time she had seen someone so unknowingly arrogant.
Sure enough, Jiang Nian’an froze for half a second. Once she realized what happened, her handsome face darkened several shades.
This foreigner actually mistook her for an illegal taxi driver looking for customers?
Remembering that she was the one asking for a favor, Jiang Nian’an quickly adjusted her mindset and spoke to Adams in fluent English.
“Hello, Dr. Adams. I am not a taxi driver.” Jiang Nian’an pushed open the car door, stepped out, and extended her hand toward the surprised Adams. “My name is Jiang Nian’an. I previously scheduled a surgery through your assistant. When I learned, you were flying to the Imperial Capital today, I came specifically to meet you.”
“That is impossible.”
Adams frowned, his emerald-green eyes looking seriously at the handsome Alpha before him. While he was surprised that Jiang Nian’an knew his name, he was even more surprised that she knew his flight arrival time.
“My assistant did not inform me of any surgeries scheduled in China today. I am here to visit one of my students.”
“I apologize, but I am afraid I cannot help you.”
Jiang Nian’an didn’t care why Adams was in the Imperial Capital. Seeing that he was unwilling to cooperate, she raised an eyebrow and said nonchalantly, “Oh? Mr. Adams, name your price. As long as you are willing to perform surgery on a friend of mine, money is no object.”
“Why is this Chinese person so persistent? Dr. Adams already said he is unwilling to perform surgery. It doesn’t matter how much money you offer. I suggest you leave now, lady!”
Peter, who had been standing silently behind Adams, couldn’t take it anymore. Compared to Adams’ clunky Mandarin, Peter’s was incredibly fluent.
“Who are you? I am speaking to Dr. Adams.”
Jiang Nian’an didn’t even give Peter a glance. She stared fixedly at Dr. Adams, her voice low and raspy.
That dismissive and arrogant attitude instantly enraged Peter. He turned to Adams and said, “Teacher, I did receive a call a few days ago from a Miss Jiang asking for an appointment. The earliest slot is in June of the year after next!”
“In other words, this lady does not have an appointment?”
Adams’ brow furrowed. Although his Mandarin wasn’t great, it didn’t mean he couldn’t understand the conversation. He had taken note of Jiang Nian’an’s arrogant and rude posture; he was quite dissatisfied with the Alpha in front of him.
“Yes, Teacher!”
“And did you tell this lady that she cannot jump the line?”
“Of course.”
Having received confirmation, Adams’ face turned cold. He looked at Jiang Nian’an with a very frostly attitude.
“Miss Jiang, jumping the line is shameful behavior. I cannot perform surgery for your friend. I am sorry, please leave this place immediately!”
Having finally tracked down Dr. Adams, Jiang Nian’an was not about to give up so easily. She narrowed her eyes, and a dangerous aura began to radiate from her.
“Are you certain? I can offer you a very generous consultation fee.”
Adams was thoroughly annoyed by the Alpha’s persistence. He waved his hand with a stern expression. “I am sorry, I refuse!”
He was an internationally renowned cardiologist. Money held no attraction for a doctor of his fame; besides, he wasn’t lacking for it.
Having traveled thousands of miles to the Imperial Capital, Adams only wanted to see his beloved student. He had been in an excellent mood, but the appearance of this mysterious Alpha had left him feeling intruded upon and displeased.
Jiang Nian’an remained standing where she was, showing no intention of backing down. Seeing that Adams wouldn’t be swayed by “soft” tactics, a cold smile curled her lips. It seemed she would have to do things the hard way.
