The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 61.1
The video call ended at nine when Zhang Qiu said she was going to shower and hung up.
Lin Luoluo stretched, also feeling tired.
Lin Xiangdong had just gotten back and came upstairs to knock on her door: “I brought some late-night snack, do you want some?”
Lin Luoluo hadn’t eaten in the afternoon, so her ears perked up, and she jumped up to open the door.
Lin Xiangdong crossed his arms and clicked his tongue: “As expected, you’re fast when you hear about food.”
Lin Luoluo went downstairs with Lin Xiangdong following her. The housekeeper had just finished reheating and serving a grilled fish.
The fragrant steam of the grilled fish drifted to Lin Luoluo’s nose. As they sat down, Lin Luoluo curiously asked, “Brother, what have you been busy with these past two days? You’re still working overtime on the weekend.”
Lin Xiangdong took a sip of tea and said, “I’m busy with a new project. Once this is over, I can rest for a few days.”
“Dad is letting you handle projects now?” Lin Luoluo was surprised Lin Xiangdong was getting hands-on so quickly.
“I brought it in myself, what’s there for him to worry about?” Lin Xiangdong put down his cup and motioned for Lin Luoluo to eat.
Lin Luoluo carefully picked up a piece of fish, chewing slowly. The fish was boneless, so she didn’t have to worry about choking. She swallowed her food before asking, “Brother, has your friend left yet? I have classes in the morning followed by the afternoon recently, and I want to go to your place for a nap at noon.”
“He should be going back tomorrow. Once he’s gone, I’ll change the lock. That apartment will be yours from now on. I won’t let anyone else stay there,” Lin Xiangdong said. He had been dealing with Mu Yunchun’s older brother, Mu Yunyan, recently, and Mu Yunyan had mentioned the trouble and would pick up his younger brother tomorrow.
Mu Yunchun had stayed with him long enough.
“Really giving it to me? Can you bear to?” Lin Luoluo’s eyes lit up, and she rubbed her hands together.
“Of course it’s real,” Lin Xiangdong laughed. “I’m graduating soon. I originally bought that apartment for convenience during school. Now I won’t be going there, and it’s just sitting empty. You take it.”
“Hehe,” Lin Luoluo chuckled. “Didn’t you buy that apartment with the first money you earned? Mom told me everything, saying the family didn’t help you and you even took out a loan back then.”
Lin Xiangdong hadn’t expected his mother to tell his sister this, and suddenly felt his tall image was in jeopardy. He quickly tried to stabilize it: “What’s the big deal? I paid off the mortgage on that apartment a long time ago.”
After all, which CEO isn’t casually throwing around millions, while he was here, a small house of a few hundred thousand even needed a loan.
Lin Luoluo saw her brother was embarrassed and quickly waved her hands: “I’m not laughing at you, I just feel this apartment has sentimental value to you, as it’s money you earned without relying on the family. I can’t take it. Just changing the lock is fine. I just want to stay there for lunch breaks sometimes.”
Their family has always followed the principle of “frugal son, spoiled daughter.” Her brother, Lin Xiangdong, went to public schools before university and lived a very simple, hardworking life. Her sister, however, was different; the family made sure she had the best of everything. Lin Luoluo had already enjoyed a lot and didn’t want to take more from her brother.
“It’s nothing,” Lin Xiangdong chuckled. “Did you think the family really didn’t give me any money?”
“The initial investment for my first pot of gold was still Dad’s, I just paid him back after I made money. That’s what they call ‘even close father and son must settle accounts clearly.'”
“Besides, I don’t feel bad about giving this house to you. Giving it to my own sister is just transferring things from the left hand to the right.”
“You use the house first. If you don’t like the decoration, have someone tear it down and redecorate.”
“I was in a hurry to move in then, so I just decorated it casually.”
Lin Luoluo felt a warmth in her heart. She nodded and said, “Then I’ll accept it, brother. No need to tear down the decorations. Redecorating would mean having to vent out formaldehyde. This is fine. Just have the housekeeper clean it up.”
“Alright, I’ll have someone change the lock and clean it up tomorrow. You can use it starting Monday for class. You can fill in anything else you’re missing yourself.”
“Mhm.” Lin Luoluo nodded.
After they finished the grilled fish, they sat in the courtyard, drinking tea to help digest.
Lin Luoluo asked, “Won’t Mu Yunchun be punished when he goes back? After all, the deficit from the funds he misappropriated is quite large.”
Lin Xiangdong shook his head and sighed, “His father’s intention is to send him abroad for development. We don’t know when he’ll be able to return after that.”
Lin Luoluo nodded, indicating she understood.
For families like theirs, going abroad was essentially equivalent to exile.
The Mu family intended to purposefully keep their youngest son away from the family. It seemed Mu Yunyan’s position as the heir was set in stone; Mu Yunchun posed no competition to his elder brother.
Lin Xiangdong rubbed his chin and said strangely, “I was working overtime today to coordinate a project with the Mu Group. Guess who I ran into downstairs at the Mu Group building?”
“Who?” Lin Luoluo was curious.
Lin Xiangdong said, “Jin Geng.”
Lin Luoluo hadn’t heard this name, and the surname didn’t belong to any of the four major families in Longhai City, so she was a bit confused.
“It’s normal you don’t know him,” Lin Xiangdong continued. “This person was originally the assistant to Wang Junlei, the CEO of Cloud Technology. But where do you think he’s working now?”
“Where?” Lin Luoluo had a guess.
“The Mu Group.”
Lin Luoluo frowned: “You don’t think Mu Yunyan is trying to deal with his brother…”
Lin Xiangdong shrugged, “I didn’t say anything.”
Lin Luoluo glared at her stinky brother; he brought it up and then wouldn’t finish.
She also picked up her teacup and took a sip.
Their Lin family was better off without these troubles.
The hour was getting late after they finished their tea. Lin Luoluo went upstairs, sent Zhang Qiu a good night message, and went to sleep.
The next day, before dawn, Lin Luoluo was woken up by a phone call. Sleepily, she pinched the phone and held it to her ear, softly mumbling, “Hello…” and was about to fall back asleep.
“Wake up! Do you know what I just heard!” It was Sang Jing, but Lin Luoluo was too sleepy. She forced one eye open, saw that it was just barely light outside, couldn’t hold the phone, and propped it up with her shoulder, pretending to listen.
“Mhm… you said…” Sleepily mumbling, Lin Luoluo was half-awake, half-asleep.
Sang Jing heard her voice and knew she wasn’t listening. She tried to suppress her excitement: “This morning, I heard the person Auntie planted in Gu Beichen’s small company report back that he’s living with a girl!”
“Mhm, living… who?!” Lin Luoluo, who was almost asleep, suddenly registered the words. She jolted awake, sat up, held the phone, and asked, “You said Gu Beichen is living with someone?!”
“Now you’re awake, right?” Sang Jing chuckled. “Congratulations, the good days aren’t far off.”
Lin Luoluo hadn’t expected Sang Jing to get news so quickly. The hope of breaking off the engagement was right in front of her. She told Sang Jing, “I’ll have to thank you properly when the time comes.”
Someone called Sang Jing’s name from her end. She answered and then laughingly hung up the phone.
The male and female protagonists were about to break off their engagement, and her mission would be complete, allowing her to go home!
She couldn’t stand staying in the Gu family’s house for one more second. Had anyone ever seen a wealthy lady who got up at five in the morning to make breakfast for her husband? Her Aunt Sang Tian was like that.
Not only did she make it herself, but she also woke Sang Jing up to teach her how to cook for her future husband, calling it a “bride’s course.”
Trying to win over a husband’s heart by catching his stomach, not realizing that this was only (self-moving, i.e., doing something only for one’s own sense of fulfillment rather than for the other person’s benefit).
After hanging up, Lin Luoluo couldn’t fall back asleep. She got up, got ready, went out for a run, and then got her things ready to go to school to find Zhang Qiu.
The sound of a car starting echoed early in the morning. Lin Xiangdong, who finally had a day off, grumbled, “It’s so early, why is she running off again?”
Lin Luoluo’s face revealed a faint smile as she faced the rising sun in the distance.
She carried breakfast and went straight to Zhang Qiu’s dorm.
When she arrived, Zhang Qiu was putting on a jacket.
The morning air was still a bit cool, and the sun outside the window was red. Lin Luoluo placed the breakfast on Zhang Qiu’s desk and saw her computer was on. She asked, “You started working early this morning?”
Zhang Qiu finished putting on her jacket and said, “The professor couldn’t find a file. I had a backup, so I sent it to her. Otherwise, she’d have to go back to the company.”
“Oh, is the computer still needed?”
“No.”
The computer took up most of the desk. Lin Luoluo carefully turned it off and moved it aside, then took out the breakfast she had brought.
“Let’s eat before we go to the library.”
“Okay.”
Zhang Qiu glanced at Lin Luoluo’s outfit for the day; she was dressed very casually and, following Zhang Qiu’s suggestion, was wearing a pair of flat shoes.
Lin Luoluo brought coffee and bread.
The coffee was hand-brewed by her this morning, and the bread, of course, was prepared by the housekeeper. She hadn’t reached that level of technical skill yet, although she had recently become interested in baking and was thinking of personally making a cake for Zhang Qiu’s birthday.
After eating, Zhang Qiu packed her bag, grabbed her materials, and headed to the library to continue her unfinished thesis. Lin Luoluo, on the other hand, was curious about the afternoon’s plans.
“Where are we going this afternoon?”
“You’ll know when we get there.”
Zhang Qiu was being secretive, so Lin Luoluo had to suppress her curiosity.
Time passed quickly. After a morning of studying, the two had a casual lunch at the cafeteria and left their things in Zhang Qiu’s dorm. Zhang Qiu then took Lin Luoluo to the Pet Lovers Society.
“Two days ago, a new stray cat wandered onto campus. Someone notified us, and we managed to catch it. After keeping it for a few days, we sent it to the vet for sterilization. Upon examination, it turned out to be a female cat, and she was pregnant. The vet said she’s due to give birth any day now.”
Zhang Qiu and Lin Luoluo crouched on the ground, looking at the newly arrived mother cat in a clean cat bed.
She was a beautiful calico cat, plump and round-headed—very adorable. The club also housed three male cats, all of whom crowded around the calico, unwilling to leave.
