The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 99
Yu Kunian needed her embrace.
No matter how much Jiang Qiu tried to talk her out of it, she couldn’t stop Yu Kunian from being discharged from the hospital. That afternoon, they first returned to Yu Kunian’s home.
“Kunian, you should rest well. It’s best if you don’t go out at all for the next month,” Jiang Qiu said as she picked up the medicine for her, poured a glass of warm water, and handed it over.
Yu Kunian kept her head lowered. She brushed her fingers over the wristwatch; the pain at the back of her neck persisted. The Alpha recalled the fragility Song Wenzhi once displayed before her.
So, this was what pheromone disorder felt like.
She finally experienced Song Wenzhi’s pain; at this moment, Yu Kunian could almost empathize with the Omega’s suffering.
The gland was a source of incessant, sharp pain, accompanied by the leakage of pheromones that she might not even notice immediately. She had to stay vigilant and worried at all times. Yu Kunian dared not imagine if Song Wenzhi’s gland condition would have been even more severe had they not switched roles this time.
When she woke up in the hospital and saw the missed calls and messages from Song Wenzhi from the previous night, Yu Kunian didn’t know how to explain. Because she didn’t want Song Wenzhi to know the truth, after returning home, Yu Kunian could only vaguely message her saying she would explain in a couple of days.
The message had just been sent when the phone was snatched away by Jiang Qiu. “Kunian, what are you dazing off for? Did you hear what I said?”
Yu Kunian didn’t try to take it back. She snapped out of it, took the water glass, swallowed the pills, and said, “I know.”
The scent-blocking patch behind her neck had been soaked by sweat at some point. Yu Kunian reached out and tore it off, and the scent of peppermint quickly filled the air. Jiang Qiu stepped back a few paces, tossed a new patch to her, and remarked, “Your pheromones are still this aggressive even with an injured gland. It seems my plan to stay here and look after you isn’t going to work.”
“I can manage on my own,” Yu Kunian declined her kindness.
“I don’t really think—”
Jiang Qiu disagreed, but she had only uttered a few words when she was interrupted by a call on Yu Kunian’s phone. She glanced at it; it was an unknown number, so she handed the phone over.
Yu Kunian answered, “Who is this?”
There was a long silence on the other end. Yu Kunian frowned, finding it strange. “If you don’t speak, I’m hanging up.”
The very second Yu Kunian moved the phone away, the person on the other end hurriedly spoke: “Sister… it’s me.”
Yu Sheng.
Recognizing the voice, Yu Kunian looked up at Jiang Qiu. After a pause, she asked, “What is it?”
“Is Sister Jiang Qiu at your place?”
Yu Kunian said bluntly, “I don’t know.”
“Then can you help me find her?” Yu Sheng’s voice grew smaller. “I can’t find her anymore.”
“I’ll look if I have time,” Yu Kunian replied casually. “You just focus on handling the company’s affairs.”
Without waiting for Yu Sheng’s response, the Alpha hung up the phone.
Jiang Qiu asked, “Looking for what?”
Yu Kunian stood up. “Looking for you.”
Hearing this, Jiang Qiu’s expression changed instantly. “Yu Sheng?”
Yu Kunian nodded. Even now, she was still curious. “What exactly is going on between the two of you?”
Jiang Qiu remained tight-lipped about it and fell into silence again. Yu Kunian decided not to dwell on it either. She grabbed extra scent-blocking patches and prepared to head out. “Drive me somewhere.”
“Where to?” Jiang Qiu frowned, having just told Yu Kunian to stay home and rest.
Yu Kunian said, “Work.”
With her pheromones in disorder, Yu Kunian wouldn’t be able to serve as Song Wenzhi’s chef for the coming month. However, since the time had already arrived today, Yu Kunian wanted to finish this last day.
It would be soon enough to tell Song Wenzhi tonight.
Jiang Qiu drove Yu Kunian to the bottom of Song Wenzhi’s building. Mid-trip, Yu Kunian sent a message to remind Song Wenzhi that she hadn’t ordered anything yet. Upon receiving the four-word reply “improvise as you wish,” she went to a nearby supermarket to buy some groceries.
“You can just wait for me here,” Yu Kunian said to Jiang Qiu as she grabbed the groceries and closed the car door.
Entering the door with the temporary passcode, Yu Kunian took out the available ingredients from the fridge and decided to cook a few of her best dishes today—the ones Song Wenzhi liked.
Just as she was preparing the final dish, Yu Kunian received a call from Jiang Qiu. Yu Kunian thought she was getting impatient from waiting. “I’m almost done.”
“No, Song Wenzhi is back.” Jiang Qiu’s tone was filled with urgency. “Why don’t you stop cooking? Otherwise, you’ll be discovered.”
Yu Kunian thought for only a brief moment. “Help me stall Wenzhi. I’ll be very quick.”
Jiang Qiu had no time for more words. she immediately got out of the car, acting as if she had just coincidentally passed by. With a somewhat exaggerated expression of surprise, she blocked Song Wenzhi’s path.
“What a coincidence, Teacher Song. Do you live here? I… ah, well, I’m lost. Would you mind giving me directions?”
Nothing went wrong with Yu Kunian’s cooking, but her gland became even harder to control during such moments of emotional tension. Unbeknownst to the Alpha, the peppermint scent began to leak out and spread.
Several messages from Jiang Qiu arrived in quick succession on her phone, urging her to leave quickly. Yu Kunian pinched the bridge of her nose. Although she had changed the patch very rapidly, the pheromones here were still a bit too easy to detect.
The phone vibrated twice more. Jiang Qiu:
[I did my best. She’s in the elevator now.]
[Have you made it out yet? Don’t go downstairs yet, or you’ll run into her.]
Before she could reply, Yu Kunian turned to open the window to let the pheromones dissipate, only to hear the sound of Song Wenzhi entering the passcode at the door.
Yu Kunian took out her phone and used the “chef” account to message Song Wenzhi, saying her pheromones had accidentally leaked and asking her not to come in yet, suggesting she wait somewhere else for a bit.
The passcode was entered correctly, but the door didn’t open.
Yu Kunian breathed a sigh of relief, thinking Song Wenzhi would do as she asked.
For a moment, the Alpha didn’t know what she was hiding from. Was it truly that she didn’t want Song Wenzhi to discover she was the private chef, or was it because she hadn’t figured out how to tell Song Wenzhi about yesterday’s events?
Deep down, she knew she couldn’t hide it for long, yet she still didn’t want Song Wenzhi to worry too much.
Song Wenzhi didn’t reply to the private chef’s message. Instead, she entered the passcode once more. This time, she pushed the door straight open.
Yu Kunian instinctively turned her back. She lowered her head. The peppermint scent was still distinct, and furthermore, her pheromones leaked once again due to her flustered emotions.
The atmosphere seemed to freeze for a few seconds. Yu Kunian was about to send another message when she heard Song Wenzhi speak:
“Yu Kunian.”
It wasn’t a question or a guess, but a tone of certainty.
The Omega knew the person in front of her was Yu Kunian, and she knew the private chef was Yu Kunian.
The Alpha was stunned. She didn’t regain her senses for a good while, not until Song Wenzhi walked toward her and stopped in front of her. Yu Kunian raised her eyes to meet the Omega’s gaze. Song Wenzhi’s expression was somewhat sorrowful; the moment she saw Yu Kunian, her lips trembled slightly.
“Yu Kunian,” she called out again.
Yu Kunian lowered her gaze. “Wenzhi, you…”
Her inquiry trailed off. The Alpha felt surprised, but also somewhat relieved.
“Yesterday I…” Yu Kunian wanted to explain, but she hadn’t found the right words yet. The pheromones grew more intense. The Alpha intentionally took half a step back and raised her hand to cover her gland, trying to keep Song Wenzhi from noticing anything wrong.
She wanted to change to another scent-blocking patch, but in the next moment, her hand was caught by Song Wenzhi.
“You don’t need to say anything, Yu Kunian,” Song Wenzhi’s voice carried a hint of trembling. She kept her eyes on Yu Kunian and spoke softly.
If Yu Kunian could disregard everything for her, she could likewise set everything aside for Yu Kunian. So why hesitate any longer?
To hell with concerns, to hell with impulsiveness.
When facing Yu Kunian, she could be irrational; she could be impulsive countless times.
Because she loved her.
Therefore, even if she recalled the past again and again—so what? She was certain that the past would never happen a second time. She was willing to believe that Yu Kunian would never hurt her again. She hoped she would no longer be conflicted and could start over with Yu Kunian.
She used to avoid it because of the Alpha’s harm, but she was equally in pain because she wanted to see the Alpha again, over and over.
Song Wenzhi knew she still loved Yu Kunian. That love had not diminished; instead, it had become deeper. Every time Yu Kunian was by her side, she would think: Get closer, get closer to happiness.
Being irrational because of the Alpha was a behavior of hers that had never changed.
Song Wenzhi knew that this loss of reason was only shown to Yu Kunian. In the face of overwhelming love and in front of her lover, excessive rationality would only cause harm and make the Alpha wait too long.
She didn’t want Yu Kunian to wait anymore.
One day, the memories related to Yu Kunian would completely replace those painful injuries. Instead of escaping, Song Wenzhi now wanted to be with Yu Kunian, using a new beginning to replace the old, as they mended the gaps of the past together.
The Omega remembered that Yu Kunian looked very haggard when she was by the hospital bed. The Alpha seemed to handle everything with ease, yet she too had moments of helplessness; she wasn’t someone who could easily solve any problem. Song Wenzhi also suddenly realized that while she thought Yu Kunian was omnipotent, the Alpha could in fact get hurt, could collapse, and also needed someone to accompany her, to comfort her—needed her embrace.
Yu Kunian had once cried to her, asking what she had to do to start over.
Song Wenzhi casually dropped her bag on the floor. Her eyes reddened as she stepped forward and pulled Yu Kunian into a tight hug.
It was enough.
Song Wenzhi thought that what Yu Kunian had done was already enough.
“Yu Kunian, I love you,” the Omega sobbed. Hot tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes. She spoke sincerely and devoutly, shouting her feelings for Yu Kunian loudly, for fear that the Alpha might not hear clearly.
Song Wenzhi allowed herself to be frantic and impulsive. She was following her instincts and listening to her own emotions as she spoke.
There was no rule that one person must always chase the other. They should face each other, huddling together, relying on one another, or becoming each other’s motivation and support. No one is invincible; they can both stand in front of the other to protect them, or hide behind them. This time, Song Wenzhi wanted to move forward bravely and personally shatter the panic and worry that had made her recoil.
Yu Kunian was stunned with surprise. She was certain she hadn’t misheard and didn’t need a repetition; she had clearly heard those three words Song Wenzhi said.
So she said, “I love you too, Wenzhi.”
After letting go, Yu Kunian looked into Song Wenzhi’s eyes. She noticed a slight anomaly and asked again, “What’s wrong?”
The peppermint-scented pheromones swirled between them. Then, the Omega also removed her own scent-blocking patch. As the scent of coconut candy filled the air, Song Wenzhi wrapped her arms around Yu Kunian’s neck and proceeded to kiss the Alpha’s lips.
