The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 98
“Don’t tell her.”
When Jiang Qiu first received the message from Yu Kunian, she found it strange. But after dwelling on it for a minute, her heart shook violently. Ignoring everything else, she pushed open the door and rushed out.
On the way to the parking lot, Jiang Qiu dialed Xia Weichi’s number.
“Xia Weichi, where are you?” Jiang Qiu asked, panting, before the person on the other end could even speak.
Xia Weichi froze for a moment. “The research institute.”
“Wait for me there.” Jiang Qiu didn’t have time to explain as she started the car. “Something happened to Yu Kunian.”
When she hung up the phone, Jiang Qiu’s hands were still shaking.
Yu Kunian had once told Jiang Qiu that she would never again involve herself in the affairs of Zhaoming Bio; even if the company faced a major crisis like bankruptcy, she would absolutely never return to Lihua City.
Realizing this, seeing the three words “Xia Weichi” made Jiang Qiu understand that Yu Kunian was sending her a warning.
Yu Kunian must have fallen into a crisis and couldn’t explain clearly—the situation was urgent.
Driving faster than usual, Jiang Qiu reached the entrance of the institute in the shortest time possible. She took the stairs three steps at a time to the second floor, where Xia Weichi and Song Wenzhi looked toward her with solemn expressions.
“What happened to Yu Kunian?” Song Wenzhi asked anxiously.
After returning to the institute, failing to find Yu Kunian, and being unable to reach her by phone, Xia Weichi and Song Wenzhi had vaguely realized something was wrong. But just as they were considering going to Yu Kunian’s address to search for her, Jiang Qiu’s call had come through.
Jiang Qiu handed over her phone and said to Xia Weichi, “This is the message Yu Kunian sent me. She told me to find you.”
Yu Kunian and Xia Weichi didn’t have much interaction, but the fact that this message specifically mentioned Xia Weichi meant it was related to the institute. This immediately led both Xia Weichi and Song Wenzhi to think of J.
As a criminal, J would never truly abide by a contract as they had discussed. After all, to J, Andrea’s gland was likely more tempting and would yield a higher reward. Almost in that instant, Song Wenzhi became certain: Yu Kunian must have been taken by J.
Jiang Qiu said, “Briefly tell me everything. We need to hurry.”
Jiang Qiu sent a reply first, and after listening to what Xia Weichi and Song Wenzhi had to say, she quickly made a judgment: “So, they want Kunian’s gland? It’s possible they kidnapped Yu Kunian for that reason, but you don’t know the location either.”
Song Wenzhi nodded.
They couldn’t be sure if Yu Kunian had already been pushed into the lab, but the only thing they could do now was race against time to find her current location.
However, the chaotic route taken earlier made it impossible to pinpoint where she was, other than knowing a winery was being used as a cover.
Jiang Qiu forced herself to calm down and think carefully, her fingertips trembling incessantly. Amidst her frantic thoughts, something suddenly occurred to her. “Has Kunian ever taken off that wristwatch?”
As she spoke, Jiang Qiu opened her phone and found a message Yu Kunian had previously sent her.
“The watch?” Song Wenzhi was puzzled for a moment, then realized that in her memory, Yu Kunian did indeed always wear it. “Yes.”
Jiang Qiu immediately breathed a sigh of relief. “That watch has a tracker. I hope those people haven’t discovered it.”
At this moment, even breathing felt tense, until Jiang Qiu said: “Found it. It’s an approximate location. Since it’s a winery, it will be easier to pinpoint.”
Having said that, Jiang Qiu sent the location to both of them. “Call the police and go save her. And—wipe out their nest.”
J tried to use a liability waiver to exempt herself from criminal acts, but in reality, such an agreement was just a scrap of paper when it involved an Alpha.
If it were an Omega, it might be considered legally effective to some extent because Omegas were often perceived as having no professional standing, and depending on the severity, the harm caused by the experiment might not be prosecuted. But for an Alpha, regardless of the degree of injury, even with a signed agreement, the law in New York would prosecute to the end as long as harm was inflicted.
Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi had been struggling with a lack of evidence to convict J and her group, but now, because of Yu Kunian, they had absolute proof.
By the time the three of them found the place, Yu Kunian had already fallen unconscious. Fortunately, the experiment had not been completed; she had only just been injected with an unknown substance into her gland.
Looking at the Alpha on the experimental table, Song Wenzhi’s legs went weak. She felt as if her heart was about to stop. She couldn’t make a sound, and her trembling hands were cold with fear as she frantically gripped Yu Kunian’s knuckles.
Her lips trembled, and tears welled up and fell. The Omega struggled with great effort to speak: “Yu Kunian…”
“Yu Kunian?”
“I’m sorry, Yu Kunian.” Endless fear submerged Song Wenzhi; her thoughts were in disarray, and she could no longer remain calm. “I’m sorry, I came too late. Your gland… Yu Kunian, you can’t be hurt, you mustn’t be hurt.”
When Yu Kunian opened her eyes again, the tip of her nose was met with the strong smell of disinfectant, and she was lying in a hospital bed.
A night had passed, and the Alpha was still somewhat dazed. She first stared at the ceiling for a while, then turned her head to look sideways as her consciousness gradually returned. She had lost consciousness after being injected with a drug yesterday and knew nothing of what happened afterward.
It seemed she had been saved.
However, her gland hurt.
Jiang Qiu was sitting nearby. She must have stayed with Yu Kunian all night and was currently asleep, leaning against the chair. Yu Kunian tried to lift her hand slightly, but even a small movement caused her whole body to ache terribly, especially the back of her neck. The Alpha began to gasp, her brows furrowed.
Jiang Qiu wasn’t sleeping deeply and was quickly woken by the slight movement. Opening her eyes halfway, she saw that Yu Kunian was awake and hurriedly stood up to call for someone.
The doctor began to examine Yu Kunian. Xia Weichi followed Jiang Qiu inside, her expression somewhat grim. When she made eye contact with Yu Kunian, she let out a soft sigh.
“There are no other major issues, but because of the drug, the gland will go through a buffer period of about one month. During this month, pheromone disorder may occur, and in severe cases, the heat period will appear frequently. Remember to keep a close eye on the patient’s condition. The gland must not be injured again. It’s best to stay home and recover, and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary,” the doctor said after the examination.
Jiang Qiu escorted the doctor out. “Thank you, we will be careful.”
Only Yu Kunian and Xia Weichi remained in the hospital room.
Yu Kunian sat up against the pillow. Her face was somewhat pale, and her lips had lost their color. When she looked at Xia Weichi, her eyes held a hint of confusion. “Why are you staring at me?”
Xia Weichi stepped half a step closer. “Yu Kunian, you will experience a month of disorder symptoms.”
“I heard.” Yu Kunian frowned even more, finding it strange. Only her gland had been injected; she wasn’t deaf.
Xia Weichi asked her, “You don’t care?”
“Better than having the gland removed.” Yu Kunian looked away. “I prepared for the worst.”
If Jiang Qiu hadn’t remembered the tracking function of that watch, if they had arrived late… Yu Kunian had considered all possibilities. The worst would have been a permanent issue with her gland. But fortunately, the situation wasn’t that bad; it was still acceptable.
“You…” Xia Weichi could hardly believe it; she even found it preposterous. “Yu Kunian, what exactly were you thinking?”
Whether for an Alpha or an Omega, the gland was the most important thing. The slightest mistake could cost one’s life. She hadn’t expected Yu Kunian’s thoughts to be so reckless.
“If I hadn’t acted as the bait, it would have taken much more effort for you to catch that group all at once, and even… Zhizhi might have ended up on the experimental table, right?” Yu Kunian’s reasoning was simple.
She could be the test subject, but Song Wenzhi could not.
Xia Weichi fell silent. Her eyes flickered slightly, and her brow furrowed. “How did you know—”
“Don’t tell her about these things.” Yu Kunian interrupted Xia Weichi, her voice suddenly dropping low. “She doesn’t know yet, does she?”
Xia Weichi didn’t speak again, and Yu Kunian took it as an admission. “Don’t let her worry about me, and don’t tell her I took her place as the test subject. It’s best if she remains ignorant of all this.”
“Even if I help you, how long can you hide it?” The pheromone disorder would eventually be discovered by Song Wenzhi.
Besides, Song Wenzhi already knew.
Yu Kunian hadn’t thought that far ahead. “I’ll hide it for as long as I can.”
Silence fell over the room once more. Xia Weichi stared at Yu Kunian for a long time before finally unable to resist asking one more thing:
“Yu Kunian, how much do you love her?”
Yu Kunian said, “One hundred percent, without reservation.”
Hearing this, Xia Weichi’s lips quirked. Although the smile was a bit strained, there was genuine warmth in her eyes. “I wish you and Xiao Zhi the best.”
Xia Weichi walked out. Outside the door, Song Wenzhi, who had bought fruit, was leaning against the wall with her eyes downcast. Xia Weichi stopped in front of her. “You heard everything?”
“I heard it.” Song Wenzhi had returned long ago, but because of Yu Kunian’s words, she hadn’t entered.
Inside the room, Jiang Qiu was telling Yu Kunian about the precautions and even took out the specialized pheromone patches. However, the Alpha sitting on the bed thought for a moment and then said:
“Get the discharge papers ready for me.”
