The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 89.2
Song Wenzhi turned around but didn’t dare look at Yu Kunian. Keeping her eyes downcast, she released more soothing pheromones. The Alpha lay down obediently, but she was far from sleepy.
The bedroom was smaller and more enclosed than the living room. The scent of mint completely enveloped Song Wenzhi. Having removed her blocker patch earlier, the Omega’s scent glands were now saturated with Yu Kunian’s pheromones. Whether voluntary or an unavoidable reaction, the scent of coconut candy grew significantly stronger.
Surprisingly, this loss of control didn’t bring any pain. Song Wenzhi herself was a bit astonished; the last time her pheromones had leaked out, even the painkillers Xia Weichi gave her hadn’t provided much relief.
Silence stretched between them. Yu Kunian couldn’t sleep. She opened her eyes to look at Song Wenzhi, her mouth opening as if to speak, but no sound came out. She wasn’t sure if Song Wenzhi would respond. She wanted to ask if the Omega still felt there was no possibility for them.
Even though Song Wenzhi had allowed her to visit the research institute, Yu Kunian still wasn’t sure if they had a chance to start over, or if she could win Song Wenzhi back through her future efforts to make amends.
Did Song Wenzhi still like her?
But the words remained unspoken, hidden in the shadows cast by the moonlight. She was afraid of pushing too hard, afraid of putting pressure on Song Wenzhi.
She could wait. She was willing to wait forever. As long as it concerned Song Wenzhi, she would do anything.
Yu Kunian slowly withdrew her gaze. She didn’t intend to keep Song Wenzhi there for too long. Even if she had to fake it, she wanted the Omega to get some rest soon. Closing her eyes and adjusting her breathing, she did her best to appear fast asleep, her ears tuned to Song Wenzhi’s every movement.
She expected Song Wenzhi to leave quietly after a few moments, but to her surprise, the Omega leaned over the edge of the bed for some reason.
The room was silent. Yu Kunian’s breathing slowed as she peeked through a slit in her eyes. Song Wenzhi was still in the chair, but her upper body was slumped over the bed. It was strange.
After a moment’s thought, Yu Kunian spoke up. “Zhizhi, are you too tired?”
There was no response. Song Wenzhi’s breathing was so faint that Yu Kunian couldn’t even hear it. Yu Kunian sat up and leaned in close, calling Song Wenzhi’s name several times. To her alarm, there was still no reaction. When she reached out to touch the Omega’s cheek, she found it burning hot.
“Zhizhi?” Yu Kunian panicked instantly. She got out of bed and knelt beside Song Wenzhi, shaking her gently. “Zhizhi, what’s wrong? Wake up, Zhizhi!”
Song Wenzhi wasn’t asleep; she had collapsed without warning.
Yu Kunian lost her head. Ignoring everything else, she scooped Song Wenzhi up and rushed outside, her heart gripped by intense anxiety. Fear crept into her mind. She tried not to think of the worst, but her thoughts raced toward dark possibilities, making her blood run cold. She called out to Song Wenzhi over and over again.
When she pushed open the door, Cheng Lu was still leaning against the wall, resting her eyes. Having brought Song Wenzhi here, she felt responsible for taking her back. But she was startled by Yu Kunian suddenly bursting out of the room in pajamas, carrying Song Wenzhi.
“To the hospital,” Yu Kunian said to Cheng Lu, her voice low and urgent.
She made to head downstairs, but Cheng Lu reacted quickly. Seeing the unconscious Song Wenzhi, she reached out to stop Yu Kunian, frowning. “What hospital? Doesn’t she have a private doctor? That Xia Weichi.”
Xia Weichi would surely know Song Wenzhi’s condition better than a hospital.
Yu Kunian immediately changed her mind. “Then to her house.”
“To her house? It’s freezing outside. Why are you dragging her around in this state?” Cheng Lu pinched the bridge of her nose, frustrated by Yu Kunian’s panicked behavior. “Just call Xia Weichi here. It’s not like she can’t drive.”
Yu Kunian looked down at Song Wenzhi, her heart racing. “Tell her to hurry.”
Even in her unconscious state, Song Wenzhi’s pheromones continued to leak. Cheng Lu took a few steps back, urging Yu Kunian to go back inside and close the door, her expression sour as she tried to avoid the scent of coconut candy.
Having found Xia Weichi’s number previously, Cheng Lu briefly explained the situation. Without waiting for a prompt, the person on the other end urgently asked for the address and said she was on her way.
After hanging up, Cheng Lu caught her breath. For some reason, her scent glands felt odd—a faint, nagging discomfort that put her in a foul mood.
By the time Xia Weichi arrived, Cheng Lu had already replaced her blocker patch. Xia Weichi had a light sweat on her forehead and was carrying a medical bag. She asked anxiously, “Where’s Xiao Zhi? What did you do to her?”
“What kind of question is that? What could we have done?” Cheng Lu shot her a look. Opening the door, she retorted to Xia Weichi’s accusation, “You’re too quick to judge. If we had done something, would we have called you? Who’s the crazy one here?”
As she finished speaking, the mint pheromones inside the house hit both Alphas with considerable force. Cheng Lu clutched her scent gland again, gritting her teeth as she went inside. Xia Weichi had already pushed past her. Despite the pressure from the aggression in Yu Kunian’s pheromones, Xia Weichi frowned and headed straight for the only lit bedroom.
Song Wenzhi lay on the bed, the scent of coconut candy so thick it forced Cheng Lu to stop at the doorway.
Yu Kunian turned around immediately at the sound. “What happened to Zhizhi? Why did she faint?”
Xia Weichi set her medical bag on a nearby table. She took one look at Yu Kunian and understood. “Yu Kunian, please leave.”
“No,” Yu Kunian stood her ground. “I’m worried about Zhizhi. I can’t leave.”
“Yu Kunian, either rein in those damn pheromones of yours or get out,” Xia Weichi’s voice dropped, her eyes darkening. “Or, move Xiao Zhi to a bedroom without your pheromones.”
“What do you mean?” Yu Kunian covered her scent gland. She didn’t understand Xia Weichi’s words, but in the middle of her rut, she couldn’t control her pheromones.
Xia Weichi applied a new blocker patch to Song Wenzhi, her tone sharp. “Xiao Zhi fainted because of your pheromones. Do you understand now?”
Yu Kunian’s expression darkened. Her first instinct was to doubt Xia Weichi, but seeing the serious look on the other woman’s face, she believed her. She pointed to another bedroom that had remained closed. “That one should be clear.”
Without a word, Xia Weichi carried Song Wenzhi to the other bedroom, shutting Yu Kunian and Cheng Lu out.
Cheng Lu kept her distance from Yu Kunian as well. “What just happened in there?”
Yu Kunian didn’t speak. Song Wenzhi hadn’t shown any signs of distress at first, and her pheromones hadn’t seemed to be affected. Why did she suddenly lose consciousness?
A moment later, Xia Weichi stepped out of the room. She glanced at Yu Kunian before fixing her gaze on Cheng Lu for a long time.
Meeting her eyes, Cheng Lu snapped, “What are you looking at?”
Xia Weichi said calmly, “Miss Cheng, your pheromones are leaking.”
Only then did Cheng Lu notice the scent of brandy. Her pheromones had somehow released themselves, and even the new blocker patch hadn’t held them back. Xia Weichi was sensitive to such things, while Cheng Lu hadn’t noticed immediately because the house was so saturated with the scent of mint.
Cheng Lu found it strange. She looked at Yu Kunian. “Are your pheromones toxic? How is even mine being affected? This has never happened to me before.”
Yu Kunian herself was no longer sure if something was wrong with her.
Xia Weichi handed Cheng Lu a suppressor. “When an Alpha in rut has a high enough concentration of pheromones, it can trigger pheromone leakage in other Alphas. It’s normal. Miss Cheng, it’s best if you don’t stay near her during her rut, or you might experience an irregular rut yourself.”
Cheng Lu remarked, “Sounds toxic to me.”
With that, Cheng Lu decided she was done. Since Xia Weichi would be there to take Song Wenzhi home, there was no need for her to stay. She turned and left, wanting to avoid any further issues with her own scent glands.
Once only Yu Kunian and Xia Weichi were left in the living room, Xia Weichi turned back to Yu Kunian. “We need to talk.”
The living room lights were turned on. Yu Kunian sat opposite Xia Weichi and asked in a low voice, “When will Zhizhi wake up? Is she okay?”
“I can’t say when she’ll wake up. And no, she’s not okay,” Xia Weichi answered quickly. “Yu Kunian, Xiao Zhi has never been in a ‘good’ state.”
Yu Kunian frowned, looking toward the closed bedroom door. The emergency rut suppressor she had just taken was making her head swim, and her scent glands were still aching. The Alpha tightened her lips. “Because of me?”
